January 25th, the first day of the Lunar New Year

This morning, my sweet dream was interrupted by a phone call again, but this time it was a WeChat video call—it was my cousin! Half asleep, I answered, "Why are you video chatting with me, you big man?" He took a deep drag of his cigarette and blew a puff into the camera—he actually said, "Get up and make breakfast for your wife, then drive her to her mother's."
On the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year, we ate dumplings. Judging from how she ate them, my sister-in-law seemed to have gotten used to it. I told her about my cousin's call, and as soon as I finished speaking, I noticed a barely perceptible blush on her face, perhaps from shyness!
I drove her to her house first. The reason was simple: she said she hadn't changed her clothes for the past two days and wanted to change at home before going to her mother's. I waited in the car, and she got out after a short while.
The journey itself wasn't particularly interesting, but I noticed that many village and town entrances were blocked by various obstacles—piles of earth, brickwork, and even large excavators parked across the intersections. In short, it didn't look good.
It was almost dark when I arrived at the entrance of her apartment complex. Just as I was wondering why there were so many tents at the gate, I saw someone walking towards me. After explaining my purpose, the person flatly refused – "Go back to where you came from!"
Holy crap!
My sister-in-law started crying again!
