My wife refused immediately, even though I knew she had a lover and I was the one who told her to come to my house. The main reason was that it wasn't safe for her to come elsewhere. I avoided him when he came. He's a colleague of my wife's. He didn't know I knew about their affair. I kept nagging my wife, and in her state of mind, she finally agreed, saying that since we were such good friends, she could handle whatever happened herself. Actually, I didn't know what to do, so I told my friend directly, and he refused again. I got angry and said, "I'm not going to help you anymore, don't contact me again." Actually, I can't blame my friend; the four of us are very close, even though his wife is having a difficult time. But back then, it wasn't like now with the internet where you could at least read some articles about it. Seeing I was really angry, my friend came to see me a few days later, sat down next to me, and didn't say a word. I ignored him. After get off work, he left and looked at me, saying, "Is that really how it is?" I said, "If it doesn't work out, then forget it." He said, "Now I'm too ashamed to face my sister-in-law." Looking at his gloomy face, it probably wasn't because of my wife; business and life weren't going well, and he looked much older than his 32 years. We've been friends for over ten years, so I couldn't bring myself to be angry. I sat down and told him that we'd always be good friends. I just wanted to cheer him up, and besides, my wife hadn't really agreed yet. Whether it would work out or not was still up in the air. "Come on, I have to go home." He thought for a moment and said, "Don't ride your bike today, walk with me." It's about seven or eight miles! I glanced at him and said, "Let's go! I've worked all day!" He didn't care about me; he just kept talking the whole way. I could see he was really depressed and really needed a change of scenery. It was snowing lightly that day, in December in Northeast China!
