There was a fox spirit in the suburbs

At midnight, dark clouds hung in the sky, a crescent moon half-hidden behind them, its usually cool light appearing eerie and sinister tonight.

A misty haze hung over the mass grave, and in the chilly night wind, flickering, eerie green phosphorescent lights danced among the graves, illuminating the surrounding, sparse bushes. The

dark red bushes seemed withered, their trunks twisted with dark red vines like veins, relentlessly sucking the tree's blood. A faint rustling sound came from

the

dry grass. Through the mist, a young scholar in a blue-white robe, carrying a satchel and lantern, hurried towards the mass grave.

The scholar was around twenty, tall and handsome, with refined features, but his face was pale, his hair slightly disheveled, and his expression revealed a hint of weariness; clearly, his journey had not been easy.

A gust of night wind blew by, and the scholar shivered. The dim flame in his lantern flickered, and he quickly stopped, using his wide sleeve to shield the lantern from the wind.

Once the wind subsided, the scholar breathed a sigh of relief, wiped the sweat from his brow, and looked around.

But what he saw filled him with dread.

Where was he? A chilling mist, eerie phosphorescent lights, strange shrubs and withered vines, rows of graves, broken tombstones—

all exuded an eerie horror. It seemed he had unknowingly stepped into the underworld.

Fear gripped the scholar. He looked around for a long time before gritting his teeth, taking a deep breath, and, forcing himself to stay alert, cautiously stepped forward, lantern in hand.

"Caw!"

Suddenly, a strange screech echoed through the night sky, followed by a black night hawk fluttering into the air and swiftly disappearing into the distance.

The scholar was startled, abruptly stopping in his tracks. He looked around in terror, and after a long while, finally confirming that everything was alright, he shakily continued walking forward.

But just as he took one step, a soft rustling sound came from the grass behind him. The scholar froze, large beads of sweat slowly dripping from his forehead. Before he could muster the courage to turn around, he saw a huge, dark shadow creeping up from behind him, like a massive monster slowly rising up behind him

. Terrified, his body trembled like a leaf, his teeth chattering. As the shadow beneath his feet grew larger and closer, his eyes widened as if about to burst.

Soon, the rustling of the grass grew louder, as if the monster was slowly approaching the scholar. He could no longer restrain himself; a sudden surge of power welled up within him, and he roared, lunging forward.

But whether due to bad luck or a loss of composure, his limbs wouldn't obey him. He had only taken two steps when he tripped and fell to the ground with a thud, even dropping his lantern.

"Ugh!" The scholar groaned, collapsing to the ground, unable to rise for a moment

. Looking up, the shadow drew ever closer. Terrified, he turned, bracing himself with his hands and hips, backing away from the shadow behind him while tightly closing his eyes, afraid to look.

"Don't eat me, don't eat me, I'm not tasty, I'm not tasty," the scholar pleaded incoherently, cold sweat beading on his forehead.

"Squeak!" Just as the scholar was filled with fear, a light, crisp chirp came from in front of him.

The scholar froze, startled, and then cautiously squinted to look. Not far in front of him, a small, snow-white fox with a pointed face, round ears, and a bushy tail, only a little over a foot long, was tilting its head and looking at him curiously.

The scholar blinked, staring blankly at the white fox.

The white fox was also strange; it seemed unafraid of people. Seeing the scholar looking at it, it also stared back at him, its eyes seemingly filled with curiosity.

The man and the fox stared at each other for a full half-incense stick's time, neither of them moving.

"Phew!" Finally, the scholar was the first to react. He let out a long breath and collapsed to the ground like a lump of mud, patting his chest and muttering to himself with relief, "That scared me to death! Luckily, it wasn't a monster or a ghost!"

He muttered a few more words, then turned to look at the lantern on the ground not far away, its flame dimming as if about to go out. He quickly struggled to his feet, crawled over, picked up the lantern, grabbed a twig from the ground, and poked at the flame. Seeing the light stabilize, he breathed a sigh of relief, wiped the cold sweat from his brow, and turned to look at the white fox.

Remembering his earlier humiliation, he was filled with shame and anger. He raised the lantern and waved it back and forth at the white fox, cursing, "You damn fox, get away! Get away from me!"

The white fox was startled by the light from the lantern, its entire body jerking backward. In the moonlight, its long, silvery-white fur bristled like a hedgehog's quills.

When it regained its senses, its previously curious gaze suddenly changed, becoming... Cold and ferocious, it stared intently at the scholar. At the same time, its body was half-prone on the ground, its long jaws agape like a bloodthirsty beast, revealing two rows of gleaming white fangs dripping with saliva, and a terrifying "whoosh" growl emanated from its throat.

The scholar's hand, holding the lantern, froze. Seeing the once-cute white fox suddenly transform into a ferocious beast, especially its vertical pupils filled with coldness and bloodlust, he shuddered violently, momentarily afraid to approach, and even more afraid to use the lantern to scare it away.

Fortunately, he was tall, while the white fox was only a little over a foot long. Seeing that he didn't move, the fox didn't attack.

The man and the fox remained in a standoff.

After a while, just as the scholar's arm began to go numb, the white fox's nose twitched slightly, as if it had smelled something. It hesitated for a moment, then bared its teeth and growled softly at the scholar as if to intimidate him, before turning and running away a short distance away, disappearing into the grass in the blink of an eye.

"Phew! That scared me to death!" As soon as the white fox left, the scholar breathed a sigh of relief, feeling utterly weak. He slumped to the ground, vigorously wiping the cold sweat from his brow with his sleeve.

"That was really eerie!" He clicked his tongue twice, then suddenly laughed, shaking his head as he laughed. "Heh, my teacher taught me long ago, 'The Master did not speak of strange phenomena, physical prowess, disorder, or spirits.' There are no demons or monsters in this world at all. It seems my teacher was right when he said I lacked experience and needed more training. Being so scared by a little fox that I couldn't move is truly embarrassing. Luckily, no one saw it, or I would have been laughed to death."

The scholar shook his head and laughed for a while, then took out a water bottle from his satchel, gulped down several mouthfuls, stood up, packed his things, and prepared to continue his journey.

Just then, a delicate laugh suddenly came from not far away: "Young master, are you afraid of ghosts?"

The scholar froze, his body seemingly stiffening. It took a lot of effort to twist his neck and look. He saw a woman dressed in white, with her hair piled high, her clothes fluttering, a slender waist, long legs, and graceful bearing. The woman had appeared beside him unnoticed, so close that he could see his reflection in her pupils.

The scholar stared blankly at her for a moment. At first, the woman met his gaze openly, but slowly, as if embarrassed by his stare, she lowered her head shyly, raised a small, jade-like hand to lightly brush her hair, and said coquettishly, "Young master, it's so impolite of you to look at me like that!"

But the scholar didn't hear her, his eyes fixed, seemingly mesmerized. Just as the woman blushed and was about to speak again, the scholar suddenly let out a bloodcurdling scream: "A ghost!"

The moment he uttered those two words, his eyes rolled back, and he fell straight backward, having fainted from fright.

His shout was truly earth-shattering, enough to make ghosts weep. The once quiet and lifeless burial ground came alive with his cry. Flocks of birds, who had been sleeping somewhere, fluttered into flight, and rabbits, field mice, and other small animals scurried about in the low grass. It was nothing short of chaos.

The woman, being so close to the scholar, turned pale with fright and stumbled back several steps before regaining her footing.

"You!" The woman, regaining her senses, showed anger on her face, but the scholar had already fainted on the ground. She was stunned for a moment, then her eyes darted around, as if she had figured something out. She chuckled and shook her head as she slowly walked towards the scholar. The

small temple was dilapidated, with broken bricks and tiles piled in the corners, and weeds growing all over the ground. In the center of the temple, on an inner altar, stood a gray, faceless clay statue of a deity, covered in cobwebs and dust.

On one side of the dilapidated temple, a half-broken window frame creaked in the night wind. In the incense burner on the altar, where incense should have been burning, a white candle was stuck in it. As the night wind blew, wisps of smoke rose from the candle, creating an eerie and sinister scene.

After an unknown amount of time, the scholar groggily awoke. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw a beautiful, melancholic face looking at him pitifully. He was stunned for a moment, not quite understanding what was happening.

"How beautiful!" the scholar sighed absentmindedly.

The words left his mouth, but he snapped back to reality, letting out a startled cry and trying to scramble to his feet.

The beauty, as if prepared, pressed a delicate hand against his chest before he could rise. "Don't be afraid, young master,"

she whispered softly, her voice carrying a faint fragrance. Her slender hand on his chest only fueled his imagination. But the scholar seemed oblivious, his expression one of terror. This seemingly frail woman, with just one hand, felt like a mountain, preventing him from rising. Strangely enough, the scholar

tried to struggle, expecting some resistance, but the woman simply raised her hand and stopped blocking his way.

The scholar was stunned, staring at the woman, and asked in a trembling voice, "You, are you human or ghost?"

The woman sighed softly, her slender waist gracefully settling down beside the scholar, revealing her slender figure, her face brimming with tears: "To tell you the truth, I am a fox spirit who has cultivated for a thousand years. Although I have achieved the Great Dao, I do not wish to be an immortal, I only wish to..."

She hesitated, looking at the scholar, stammering.

The scholar gradually regained his composure, looking at the woman's smooth... Looking at her small face, he asked in confusion, "Just want to, just want to, what?"

The woman looked up pitifully, her eyes gazing at the night sky outside the temple, murmuring, "I only want to, just want to experience the mortal world, to see its wonders and worldly splendor, so that my life will not have been in vain."

Saying this, she turned her head, her eyes pleading, "I wonder if you, sir, could grant my wish?"

The scholar frowned slightly, asking in bewilderment, "Isn't entering the mortal world simply a matter of descending the mountain? Grant my wish? How can I grant your wish?"

The fox-woman chuckled, leaning against the scholar's chest, nuzzling him... The scholar breathed softly into her ear, "I am ignorant of the rules of the mortal world. I fear I might give myself away and attract the demon-slaying sorcerers. At that time, I fear I will face certain death, and my thousand years of cultivation will be destroyed in an instant."

She leaned against him, and the scholar stiffened. Inhaling her delicate fragrance, he coughed lightly before his voice trembled and he stammered, "Then, then I have no choice."

Seeing his reaction, the fox spirit's lips curled into a smile, her eyes narrowing into crescent moons. She gave the scholar a charmingly reproachful look, wriggled in his arms, and said coquettishly, "Young master, why pretend to be ignorant?"

"Pretend to be ignorant?" The scholar was taken aback.

The fox spirit chuckled, gazing tenderly into his eyes, a hint of shyness in them. She said softly, "If you take me by your side and teach me the ways of the world, wouldn't that be helping me?"

"Ah?" The scholar quickly shook his head, "No, no, I still have to go to the capital for the imperial examinations!"

"Young Master," the fox spirit's seductive voice trailed off, her body swaying gently in the scholar's arms as if boneless, making his mouth go dry.

The scholar couldn't resist; in an instant, he felt his bones soften, and his face showed an expression of utter ecstasy.

The fox spirit smiled, gently shaking his arm with her small hands, and said in a coquettish voice, "Young Master, please help me! I'm willing to be your servant, to serve you at your side. As long as you don't mind, I'll do whatever you say."

Saying this, the fox spirit lowered her head shyly, leaning forward slightly, pressing against the scholar's chest.

Hearing this, the scholar's eyes suddenly lit up, as if he had become a different person. He immediately seized the opportunity, grabbing the beauty's slender waist, and said smugly, "Oh, I can't bear to disappoint you, beauty! If you're willing to follow me, I certainly won't mistreat you!"

As he spoke, the scholar's hands and feet... He began to stir restlessly, groping his way inside the fox-woman's clothes.

The fox-woman giggled, giving the scholar a coquettish glare, half-heartedly swaying her hips, not flinching at his wicked hands

. The scholar didn't force her, his large hand exploring inside her clothes, while he chuckled and boasted, "My family is quite wealthy. If you are willing to submit to me, I will give you everything I have to win your smile." The

fox-woman's eyes lit up, and she stopped swaying, letting the scholar's large hand do as he pleased, while giving him a flirtatious look: "Is that true?"

The scholar chuckled: "Of course, don't worry, I never lie. As long as you sincerely follow me, I will never let you down."

The fox-woman smiled sweetly: "Then—"

Before she could finish speaking, a dark iron club suddenly came crashing down from the sky, striking her on the head with a "clang." The

fox-woman didn't even have time to react; everything went black before her eyes rolled back, and she fainted in the scholar's arms.

"Liu Suifeng, you've abused your power for personal gain, taking advantage of this young lady! I'll report you to the Defense Commissioner when we get back!" As the fox-woman fainted, a clear, bell-like voice came from behind the scholar.

Turning his head, he saw a young girl glaring angrily at him.

Her face was like the moon, with bright eyes and white teeth, skin like jade, and exquisite features. Especially her eyes, black and pure like the stars in the sky. Although they held anger, there was no malice in them; instead, they appeared lively and adorable.

She was young, looking only fifteen or sixteen. Her clothes were strange, neither a woman's dress nor a man's robe, but rather similar to a constable's uniform, only more neat and smooth, with blue and black stripes and clearly defined sleeves. In the moonlight, one could see the Big Dipper embroidered in silver thread shimmering slightly at the collar, clearly implying something. The

girl's sudden appearance didn't surprise Liu Suifeng, disguised as a scholar. He reached into the fox-woman's clothes and... He patted her for a moment, then reluctantly withdrew his hand, chuckling awkwardly at the girl, "Oh, Yaoguang, don't misunderstand. I was just curious if she was really a fox spirit, to see if she had a tail, to verify. I'm doing this entirely out of public interest, all for the sake of solving the case!"

Yaoguang rolled her eyes cutely, glancing disdainfully at Liu Suifeng, and huffed, "Stop teasing me! You're the most lecherous one! I've been the one doing all the work on this official mission! And what about you?" "Lu Xiaoyao is carefree and idle, neglecting his duties! I told you that the local government reported fox spirits appearing in the area, and you volunteered to be their bait. You really have ulterior motives! Humph, you lecher!"

Liu Suifeng, exasperated by her nagging, pretended not to hear, got up, picked up the fox girl, glanced around, and walked towards the offering table with lit candles.

The girl, furious, quickly stopped Liu Suifeng: "Don't forget, we are officials of the Beidou Bureau, high-ranking officials of the imperial court! What else do you want?"

"Hey, Yaoguang, is it really necessary? Even if I'm unreliable, would I really molest someone in front of you?" Liu Suifeng said, half-laughing and half-crying. "Get out of the way, I'm putting her on the table so I can interrogate her later."

Yaoguang moved aside, half-believing. Liu Suifeng shook his head and smiled wryly, placing the fox girl on the altar. He looked her up and down for a few moments, then suddenly reached out and started to unbutton her clothes.

Yaoguang, flustered, slapped Liu Suifeng's hand away forcefully. "What are you doing?"

Liu Suifeng chuckled. "I'm just curious. As a military inspector of the Northern Dipper Division, I've arrested countless imposters in my life, but I've never encountered a real fox spirit or ghost. I'm just seeing if she has a tail or not."

With that, Liu Suifeng reached out again to pull on the fox girl's belt.

"Bastard, shameless!" Yao Guang roared, raising her hand to punch Liu Suifeng in the face.

Fortunately, Liu Suifeng reacted quickly; the moment Yao Guang raised her hand, he released the hem of his robe he had just lifted, raising his palm to meet the punch. With a bang, fist and palm collided.

Although Liu Suifeng was a man and much taller than Yao Guang, he was at a disadvantage against the petite Yao Guang. Even though he was prepared, he was still forced to take a step back.

Seeing that Yao Guang was still not satisfied, Liu Suifeng quickly waved his hand: "Stop, stop! I said, Yao Guang, that's enough! This fox demon has committed many crimes near the capital, and the victims..." "I don't even know how I was bewitched. I bet she has some kind of drug on her. If seduction doesn't work, she'll drug me. How can I not check her?"

Yao Guang sneered, "Do you really think I want to take advantage of you?" "Is that so? Aren't I a woman? Even if I need to check, can't I do it myself?"

Although Yao Guang looked distrustful, she stopped and didn't bother him anymore.

Liu Suifeng was stunned for a moment, a hint of embarrassment on his face. But then he rolled his eyes and pretended to smile bitterly, shaking his wrist as if in pain: "Hey, your strength is really..."

"Change the subject! What, feeling guilty?" Yao Guang sneered disdainfully.

While the two were bickering, the fox girl on the table had actually woken up. However, she was also clever and didn't rush to open her eyes. Instead, she listened to the two talking with her eyes closed, waiting for an opportunity.

The opportunity came quickly. A night breeze blew in, and the door suddenly clicked and fell to the ground with a thud.

"Who goes there?" Liu Suifeng and Yaoguang turned their heads simultaneously, their eyes filled with vigilance.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the fox girl decisively struck, knocking over the candlestick with a flick of her wrist. She then leaped into the air, drifting to the window like a wisp of smoke, and fled.

Liu Suifeng's expression changed, and he immediately turned and chased after her, urgently shouting, "Quick, chase her! Don't let her get away!"

Yaoguang was stunned, stamping her foot in anger. But just as she was about to give chase, she glanced down and saw that a small flame from the overturned candlestick had already ignited the dry grass on the ground. She panicked. It was late summer, and the vegetation was already turning yellow. In this desolate wilderness, a wildfire could easily start if she wasn't careful. She didn't have time to chase after her; instead, she rushed forward to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, it was only just beginning, and she quickly stomped it out. Only then did she grit her teeth and chase after her.

The night was dark and windy. The fox girl, like a wisp of smoke, disappeared from the dilapidated temple, turning seven times... Bagua quickly disappeared from sight.

When Yaoguang caught up, she saw Liu Suifeng standing under a tree, looking around anxiously. She hurried forward and said angrily, "Where did you run off to? You're useless, you lost her so quickly!"

Liu Suifeng chuckled, "Run? Where did you run off to?"

He squinted, sniffed, and pointed in one direction, "This way."

As soon as he finished speaking, Liu Suifeng used his lightness skill to chase after her.

Yaoguang quickly followed, running while looking down on Liu Suifeng, "Your nose is like a dog's!"

Liu Suifeng was speechless, turned his head and glared at her, snorting, "Can't you talk properly? This is called tracking. Besides, if you hadn't messed things up for me earlier, would she have gotten away?"

Yaoguang gritted her teeth and glared at Liu Suifeng, "You dare blame me, Liu? If you hadn't tried to take advantage of her, would she have escaped? If we don't catch her today..."

"Sigh, I know, I know, I'll complain to the Defense Envoy!" Liu Suifeng said helplessly.

"Hmph! You—" Yaoguang snorted coldly, about to speak, when Liu Suifeng's expression suddenly turned serious: "She's up ahead, quick, don't let her get away again!"

Yaoguang followed Liu Suifeng's gaze and saw the white-clad fox girl's figure flash by, about to disappear behind a grave. Just then, Liu Suifeng flicked his finger, and a pebble shot out, hitting the fox girl's ankle. The fox girl cried out, tumbled to the ground, rolled forward a few times, and disappeared behind the grave.

"Huh?" Liu Suifeng was startled, stopping in his tracks and looking over in surprise.

"She got away again?" Yaoguang glanced at him and was about to rush over when

Liu Suifeng quickly grabbed her: "Don't rush, look..."

"Bang!" A wisp of smoke rose from the grave, and a white fox stood atop it. In the moonlight, its eyes gleamed eerily, staring directly at the two men, a hint of arrogance in them.

Looking at the strange white fox, Liu Suifeng and Liu Suifeng exchanged a glance, both somewhat surprised and uncertain.

Suddenly, the white fox opened and closed its mouth, uttering a human voice, albeit a sharp and piercing one: "You mortals, how dare you humiliate this fox spirit like this! Quickly kowtow and beg for mercy, or do you want to wait for this fox spirit to become angry?" Liu

Suifeng ... Watching the fox warily, her eyes darted around as if trying to uncover the secret of her transformation.

Yao Guang frowned, her gaze lowered, and by the moonlight, she vaguely saw a corner of white clothing behind the tombstone. Without making a sound, she subtly shifted her feet, and upon closer inspection, she almost burst out laughing. The fox woman who had fled earlier was now crouching behind the tombstone, one hand clutching her stomach, the other clutching her throat, speaking in a strange, menacing voice: "Mortals, I'm giving you one last chance. Kneel down immediately and apologize to this immortal, or else..."

"Fox Immortal, stop pretending! Your fox tail is showing!" Yao Guang chuckled.

"What?" The fox on the grave opened and closed its mouth, seemingly puzzled.

Yao Guang snorted lightly, not answering, and suddenly leaped forward, knocking over the tombstone with a single blow

. As the tombstone fell, the fox's fur stood on end, and it turned and ran, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

With the tombstone down, the fox girl crouching behind it was exposed, staring in astonishment at Yao Guang and Liu Suifeng.

"Ignorant little thief! You've only kept a fox as a pet, learned ventriloquism, and now you're here pretending to be a spirit to harm passersby and steal their money, falsely claiming to be a fox immortal to deceive ignorant villagers into contributing their wealth. You're utterly audacious and deserve to die!" Yao Guang sneered.

The fox girl was shocked and got up to run away, but Liu Suifeng had been watching her closely. The moment she moved, Liu Suifeng blocked her retreat.

"My beauty, don't be in such a hurry to leave!" Liu Suifeng chuckled.

The fox-woman, seeing Yao Guang's mocking gaze and being teased by Liu Suifeng, gritted her teeth in hatred.

Her once charming face contorted into a ferocious expression. A fierce glint flashed in her eyes as she glanced at their location, immediately realizing she couldn't escape as easily as before. But she was unwilling to surrender so easily. Although she hated Liu Suifeng's flirtatious behavior, seeing Yao Guang's fair and jade-like beauty under the moonlight only fueled her jealousy. Besides, Yao Guang was, after all, a woman; even if she possessed some martial arts skills, she would likely be slightly weaker.

Having made up her mind, the fox-woman ignored Liu Suifeng. Taking advantage of the strange cry of a night crow not far away, she suddenly leaped up and pounced fiercely on Yao Guang.

"Well done!" Yao Guang had no idea that the fox woman was treating her like an easy target. Without thinking twice, she gave a light shout, picked up her club, and swung it with a "whoosh." The

fox woman was startled. She hadn't expected such a delicate girl to wield such a heavy weapon, and judging from the way she swung it with such force, she clearly had it under her control.

What incredible strength!

After being knocked unconscious in the dilapidated temple, the fox girl thought the attacker had used a stick they picked up, or perhaps just a hollow object used to scare her. Only now did she realize that she had actually been knocked unconscious by this iron club.

"What a monster!" the fox woman cursed inwardly, feeling a lingering fear. Thankfully, her opponent intended to capture her alive; otherwise, being struck on the head by such a heavy weapon would have been unthinkable.

Thinking of this, the fox woman shuddered and dared not resist. She immediately dodged and engaged Yao Guang in a hit-and-run.

Fortunately, she was agile and accustomed to nighttime activities, familiar with the terrain. Once she decided to fight, she aimed for safety rather than victory, and for a time, Yao Guang couldn't catch her.

Not far away, Liu Suifeng watched the two fight with a smile, not in a hurry to intervene, but simply standing at a distance to enjoy the spectacle. Seeing Yao Guang's determined look as if she wanted to smash the fox woman down with her club, he clicked his tongue and called out, "Hey, Yao Guang, don't hit so hard! Let's talk this out! Don't hurt the beauty!"

Yao Guang, having fought for so long, was already somewhat... Impatient, and hearing Liu Suifeng's incessant chatter, she flew into a rage, raising her hand to shoot a butterfly dart at the fox woman.

Fortunately, the fox woman was exceptionally light-footed and alert enough that upon seeing Yao Guang's hand reach into her dart pouch, she dodged to the side without hesitation. However, the moonlight was dim, and Yao Guang's attack was sudden; although she barely managed to dodge, the dart still grazed her sleeve. With a "whoosh," a piece of her clothing was torn and fell gracefully to the ground.

The fox woman's face changed drastically, and she retreated hastily, cold sweat pouring down her forehead. Meanwhile, Liu Suifeng, displeased with Yao Guang's use of a dart, jeered, "Oh dear, Yao Guang, you mustn't use a dart! What if you hurt the beauty's face?"

Yao Guang was furious and yelled at Liu Suifeng, "Liu Suifeng, you big bastard, if you mess with me again, I'll beat you up too!"

"Huh? You've got some nerve. Don't forget, I'm your boss! How dare you talk to me like that! I'll dock your pay!" Liu Suifeng said, looking displeased.

With a "whoosh," a dart flew towards Liu Suifeng's head. Startled, he ducked in time, dodging the dart, which struck a tree behind him with a soft buzzing sound.

"Oh, how dare you!" Liu Suifeng jumped up and down, but seeing Yao Guang's murderous gaze, he quickly shut his mouth.

Yao Guang snorted coldly, ignoring him, and instead focused on attacking the fox girl

. The fox girl was originally focused on fighting, using her agility to fight Yao Guang, and was not at a disadvantage. However, after Liu Suifeng said a few words, she suddenly remembered that there was another enemy behind her. As a result, she couldn't help but become a little distracted.

In terms of martial arts, she was already inferior to Yao Guang, only having the advantage of being familiar with the environment. Now, with a slight lapse in concentration, she immediately fell into a disadvantageous position. In just a few moves, she was almost hit on the head by the iron club. The

fox girl broke out in a cold sweat. If this thing really hit her on the head, her head would probably be smashed.

Although the iron club missed her, the force of the blow ripped off the fox woman's mask, revealing her true face.

Not only were her eyebrows slanted and her nose flat, but her two large, round nostrils were also turned upwards, with faint black nose hairs protruding from them. Her left cheek was a dark patch with a palm-sized mole, from which two long hairs grew. Her right cheek was relatively smooth, but the pores were large, and upon closer inspection, it was covered with pockmarks.

If the fox woman had previously been alluring and charming, while not quite a beauty queen, she was still quite attractive. But now, her true appearance was utterly appalling.

Yao Guang, however, didn't care about beauty or ugliness in a fight, and continued swinging her arms relentlessly. The iron club was being swung, but Liu Suifeng was stunned when he saw the fox woman's true face. Pointing at her, his face was full of disbelief: "You...you...you actually—"

Before he could finish speaking, Liu Suifeng was already leaning against a tree trunk, retching uncontrollably.

The fox woman saw the mask fly off, paused for a moment, and took a few steps back to avoid Yao Guang's attack. She raised her hand to touch her face and instantly understood. She was furious and ashamed, glaring at Yao Guang with venomous eyes. Her attacks became even more ruthless, and she roared, "I'll take your life!"

Yao Guang continued her attack, but upon hearing this, she just curled her lip and sneered, "Ugly monster, come and kill me if you dare!"

The fox woman's face became ferocious and terrifying, and the venom in her eyes seemed almost tangible.

Actually, it's not surprising that she was angry. After all, she was a woman, and who doesn't love beauty?

She was already ugly, and went to great lengths to wear a mask to hide it. Now, not only was her true face exposed, but she was also being mocked to her face, especially by another woman. And look at that woman's appearance—while "stunningly beautiful" might be an exaggeration, she was at least beautiful with bright eyes and white teeth, and a delicate, exquisite face!

What was this? This was a double whammy of a critical hit and a vulnerability attack!

Under such double torment, anyone would go mad!

The fox woman's madness was no surprise; she went all out.

But unlike most people who fight to kill, the fox woman had only one goal—even if it cost her her life, she would destroy that beautiful face.

The fox woman had lost her mind; her only thought was to disfigure Yao Guang—"You called me ugly! Now you're beautiful!"

Her desperate act startled Yao Guang. The fox spirit was a woman, and so was Yao Guang. After only a few exchanges, Yao Guang understood her opponent's intentions. "Fine, you're ugly yourself, but you can't stand seeing others beautiful?"

Yao Guang was furious. But it must be said, the fox spirit's tactic was surprisingly effective, temporarily suppressing Yao Guang.

It wasn't that Yao Guang's martial arts were lacking, nor was she intimidated by the fox spirit's desperate aura; it was simply that Yao Guang was somewhat afraid.

To be fair, given Yao Guang's reckless and bold nature, she wasn't afraid of death. However, not being afraid of death didn't mean she wasn't afraid of disfigurement. Her thinking wasn't unusual: "I'm beautiful, who would want to fight an ugly monster like you? Even if the Southern Kingdom crushed you to death, what if you were disfigured? Where would you go to cry then? No one else's life is more important than my beautiful face!"

The moment this thought crossed her mind, fear crept in, and her fighting became hesitant and timid, losing its previous boldness and fearlessness. It wasn't surprising that she fell into a disadvantageous position.

At this moment, Liu Suifeng had also gotten used to it. He looked up and immediately understood Yao Guang's concerns. He couldn't help but chuckle inwardly, but he really didn't dare to watch the show anymore. He wasn't afraid of accidents, but he was afraid of the worst. What if Yao Guang really got scratched on the face?

Thinking of this, he moved like a shot arrow, rushing into the arena and blocking Yao Guang.

He first took a deep breath, and then roared "Ah!" at the fox girl.

With Liu Suifeng's roar, the mist on the mass grave suddenly scattered in all directions, and phosphorescent flames flew. The huge sound wave was visible to the naked eye. In the blink of an eye, branches shook, trees trembled, and grass and leaves flew.

The fox girl never expected him to have such a move. Caught off guard, she was sent flying by the roar, crashing heavily to the ground, blood seeping from her ears and nose

. The fox-woman lay there, staring at Liu Suifeng in terror: "You, is that the Buddhist Lion's Roar, or the Taoist Wind and Thunder Incantation?"

Liu Suifeng took a deep breath, steadied himself, dusted off his clothes, and stood proudly, saying leisurely, "This student is well-versed in the classics; this roar is naturally the divine power of a surge of righteous energy from my chest."

Yao Guang rolled her eyes, walked over, pushed Liu Suifeng aside, took out a special grappling hook from her waist, and restrained the fox-woman disguised as a fox spirit. Then she turned to Liu Suifeng, teasing him, "Why aren't you showing any mercy this time?"

Liu Suifeng's lips twitched, and he sighed with a pained expression, "Alas, women in disguise are truly a trap! I've finally understood!"

"Understood what?" Yao Guang asked curiously.

"Only natural beauty reigns supreme!" Liu Suifeng sighed, looking up at the sky with a disillusioned expression. Yao Guang

chuckled, "Ha, you've finally seen the light, haven't you? A girl like me, with my plain and simple features, is the real beauty!"

Seeing Yao Guang's smug look, Liu Suifeng glanced at her disdainfully, "You? A greenhorn, wait a few years before calling yourself a beauty!"

Yao Guang hated being called young, and glared angrily, "Liu Suifeng!"

As she spoke, Yao Guang shook the iron mallet in her hand, seemingly ready to strike him at the slightest provocation

. Liu Suifeng shrank back, chuckled dryly, and his eyes darted around... Seeing the dejected fox-woman pinned to the side, Yao Guang immediately changed the subject: "Oh dear, it's really cold today. Let's hurry up and get back to clear the case. You'll be considered a master now, and I can relax a bit!"

Yao Guang smirked, a smug look in her eyes, and shoved the fox-woman: "Let's go, what are you standing there for?"

The fox-woman glared at Yao Guang resentfully, then looked pleadingly at Liu Suifeng, but Liu Suifeng had already stepped forward, completely ignoring her gaze.

The cold moonlight shone like frost on the stark white bones of the mass grave, reflecting a chilling glow, but Liu Suifeng and Yao Guang seemed oblivious, chatting and laughing as they escorted the fox-woman away.
