I. Flat Push Method
The flat push method is a type of push method with relatively strong force.
1. Operation of the technique
(1) Thumb flat push method The practitioner uses the pads of one or both thumbs to apply force to the treatment area, pushing along the meridian or along the direction of muscle fibers. Gentle kneading can be combined with acupoints. Repeat the operation several times (as shown in Figure 4-1).
(2) Palm flat push method The practitioner uses the entire palm to apply force to the treatment area, focusing on the palm root, and pushes in a certain direction. The force can be increased by overlapping both hands to push slowly (as shown in Figure 4-2).
(3) Fist flat push method The practitioner makes a fist with one hand and applies force with the interphalangeal joints of the second, third, fourth, and fifth fingers, pushing slowly along the direction of muscle fibers. This method is the most stimulating of the flat push method (as shown in Figure 4-3).
(4) Elbow flat push method The practitioner bends the elbow and applies force with the olecranon process to the treatment area, pushing slowly parallel to the direction of muscle fibers. This is the most stimulating of the flat push method (as shown in Figure 4-4).
2. Technique Essentials: The practitioner's hand should be firmly against the body surface, moving the subcutaneous tissue along with the skin. The flat pushing method requires relatively heavy force, applied evenly and steadily. The pushing speed should be slow. The flat pushing method must be performed in a straight line, without deviation or jumping. Before the procedure, a small amount of oily neurotransmitter should be applied to the treatment area to keep the skin smooth and avoid damage.
3. Effects: Unblocks
meridians, relaxes muscles and promotes blood circulation, dissipates blood stasis and nodules, aids digestion, relieves spasms and pain.
Note: The flat pushing method is similar to the rubbing method, both being linear movements, but the flat pushing is a unidirectional movement, applying greater pressure to the body surface and moving at a slower speed. Redness and warmth of the skin are not required.

II. Straight Pushing Method:
The practitioner uses their fingers or palm to press on the treatment area on the body surface and push in a straight line; this is called the straight pushing method.
1. Techniques
(1) Thumb Straight Push: Apply pressure to the treated area with the pads of one or both thumbs, pushing in one direction along the meridian or parallel to the muscle fibers, maintaining a certain pressure. This is the starting and ending technique for massage (Figure 4-5).
(2) Full Palm Straight Push: Apply pressure to the treated area with the entire palm, fingers slightly apart, wrist straight, using one palm, two palms, or overlapping palms to apply pressure in one direction.
(3) Palm Heel Straight Push: Raise the wrist, dorsiflex appropriately, extend the fingers, and use the palm heel of one or both hands to apply pressure to the treated area and push straight. If additional force is needed, the palms can be overlapped (Figure 4-6).
(4) Thenar Eminence Straight Push: With fingers together and wrist straight, use the thenar and hypothenar eminences as the center, flex and extend the elbow flexibly, and push forward with the thenar eminence. If additional force is needed, the other hand can be placed on the treated hand (Figure 4-7).
(5) Elbow Straight Push Method: The practitioner bends the elbow joint and applies force to the treatment area with the tip of the elbow, pushing in a straight line in one direction along the meridian or muscle fiber. This method is the most stimulating among the straight push methods (as shown in Figure 4-8).
2. Key Points of the Technique: The practitioner's fingers, palms, or thenar eminence should be in close contact with the skin of the treatment area, applying firm force, heavy but not stagnant, light but not superficial. The pushing speed and force should be uniform and continuous, the movements should be coordinated, and a certain force perpendicular to the skin should be maintained. The push should be a straight line push in one direction without deviation. When used on the chest, back, and abdomen, it should be coordinated with breathing, with orderly intervals.
3. Effects: Eliminates stagnation and promotes blood circulation, regulates menstruation and relieves pain, eliminates blood stasis and dissipates nodules, clears the meridians, relaxes muscles and promotes blood circulation, clears the head and eyes, and opens the chest and benefits the diaphragm. III.

Separating Push Method
: The practitioner uses both thumbs or multiple fingers to press on the treatment area and pushes in opposite directions to both sides. This method is called the separating push method.
1. Techniques
(1) Finger-separating push method: The practitioner uses both thumbs or multiple fingers to press on the treatment area and push in opposite directions to both sides. This method is applicable to all parts of the body (as shown in Figure 4-9).
(2) Palm-separating push method: The practitioner uses both palms to press on the treatment area and push from the inside out in opposite directions. This method is applicable to all parts of the body (as shown in Figure 4-10).
2. Key points of the technique: The force of both hands should be even, and the movements should be gentle and coordinated. During the procedure, the movements can be linear or arc-shaped along the body surface.
3. Effects: Regulates the stomach and intestines, eliminates stagnation, clears the meridians, and promotes qi and blood circulation.
