How could I possibly encounter someone like that...?

I just logged onto QQ tonight, and someone messaged me. It's a friend from another province I added before. We rarely chat because it's so far away. Today, he suddenly told me he's on a business trip here... and he's going back the day after tomorrow. He wants to meet us... We know it's not easy for him to come all the way to Jiangsu, so my wife and I talked to him several times... and he agreed to meet him tonight (even though it's an hour's drive for us). We were about to leave when we asked him which hotel he was staying at, but he wouldn't say. He kept dodging the question, and when we asked which room he was in, he refused to tell us... He wants to meet us, and we agreed. One minute he says he wants to see us, the next he says it's too late... Please tell us if we've encountered a bad person.
