After graduating from university, I waited for job assignments and spent my days at home watching TV and surfing the internet. Sometimes classmates would come to visit, asking all sorts of questions. I would give half-hearted answers, not really paying attention. My parents were also concerned about my marriage, but I always said I wasn't thinking about it now and would think about it later. My parents saw that I was unhappy and knew that I still had feelings for him. They tried to persuade me, saying, "If he could come to our place, that would be great. You two would be happy together, and we, your parents, would be happy too. It's a pity he can't come, and there's nothing we can do about it. Daughter, there are plenty of good men out there. If you find someone suitable, go and meet them. It won't make you look bad." I just, like a child, did as my parents said. I met a few people, some good, some not so good, but none of them were right for me.
After I made the arrangements, my classmate Shunzi came to see me with his girlfriend. He said there was a handsome young man at his workplace and asked if I wanted to meet him. I smiled and said, "Sure, I'll go back and ask him if he has a girlfriend, and I'll let you know when I get back." Okay, it seems like two days later, Shunzi wrote to me, saying, "Let's meet tomorrow afternoon. Do you have time?" I said I did, and asked if we could meet at my dorm. I said yes, it's just the two of us in my dorm, and the girl had gone home for something. I tidied up the room nicely and did some simple makeup. Shunzi and his girlfriend brought him over. He glanced at me, and I lowered my head shyly. I said, "This is Xiao Zhang from my workplace," and then told Xiao Zhang, "This is my classmate. You two can talk here; we have to go." So it was just the two of us in the room. Xiao Zhang blushed and said, "It's nice to meet you today." I felt embarrassed and just snorted. Only then did I take a closer look at him. He had thick eyebrows, big eyes, fair skin, and was of medium build. He made a decent impression. We exchanged a few words, and he said he had to leave. I said, "Okay, you look cold, wearing so little." I quickly took out a jacket for him to wear—my military training uniform. Luckily, it fit.
