[The Girls' School Teacher] (Episode 25, Chapter 6)

Chapter Six: An Unprecedented Victory

December 6th, Wednesday.

Today was both Yuko's seventeenth birthday and the day PS II was released in the three Nordic countries.

After performing two surgeries at Suzuki Private Hospital in the morning, I rushed to Sakura Academy before lunch.

I spent a simple birthday party with the beautiful female students for the shy little beauty, then

returned to my office with Yuko and Kana.

As a male teacher, it wouldn't be right for me to come and celebrate the birthday of a beautiful female student.

However, I used the excuse of checking PS II sales with the two beauties in the afternoon, and Tamaki

Maki wasn't angry.

Being a teacher at a girls' school requires a lot of attention; it's easy to accidentally reveal

secrets. I don't mind, but if it hurts my beautiful wives, that's something I don't want to see

.

The time difference between Tokyo and Stockholm is eight hours. PS II was released at

9:00 AM Tokyo time, which is 5:00 PM Japan time.

But don't think we were idle just because we'd been in the office since 1 PM.

Actually, we had quite a lot to do: constantly communicating with Okui Sakai, monitoring the situation at various PS II

stores , further strengthening security measures, and striving for a perfect start without

any negative news.

The two young women's computers, side-by-side in the office, were now connected to my

laptop . Military satellites were

displaying the situation of the twenty-three PS II stores scattered throughout major cities in the three Nordic countries, showing us from various angles as the young women adjusted the settings.

At this point, the girls only wished they had more computers; they couldn't see all twenty-three stores

,

so they focused on observing the stores in the capital cities of the three countries. Don't assume European countries are as large as the US, Russia, or China, or that their

capitals have populations of millions.

The three countries are roughly the same size as Japan, but their populations are much smaller. Their

capitals—Stockholm, Sweden, has only one million inhabitants; Copenhagen, Denmark, has only 800,000; and

Oslo, Norway, also has only 800,000. Therefore, opening two stores in each of these capitals is

sufficient .

Unlike the Japanese or Chinese, the people of the Nordic countries don't work like they're constantly on the go,

rushing around like in a war zone. With high welfare benefits, they mostly lead leisurely lives with

plenty of free time.

For example, with the PS II release today, as early as last night, thousands of loyal fans lined up

outside twenty-three stores, ready to be among the first to buy it.

This number gradually increased

over forming long queues that completely blocked the entrances to the stores.

When Okui Sakai recounted this situation to us, I immediately instructed the two young ladies to order

the store employees to go to nearby McDonald's, KFC, or other fast-food restaurants and buy hot coffee, hot tea

, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc., giving one to everyone in line.

Okui Sakai questioned this, saying that people would queue overnight to buy what they liked, but

stores had never offered free breakfast before, which would cost over a million US dollars!

Kana and Yuko, of course, didn't object to my suggestion. They immediately forced Okui Sakai to

comply without giving a reason.

Okui Sakai had no choice but to comply, thinking that he had achieved his goal. If the two young ladies insisted

on doing it this way, what could he do but obey?

Thus, at the entrances of various PS II stores, this scene appeared—both men and women

, everyone queuing to buy PS II, held hot drinks and food, eating leisurely

and heartily.

The employees of the fast food restaurant and the specialty store nearby were incredibly busy, carrying huge trays

filled with drinks and food, running around everywhere. After delivering everything, they would restock

the drinks go on to deliver again.

Just then, reporters from the TV station and newspapers arrived to interview, and seeing this scene, the TV station immediately

started broadcasting live.

Seeing everyone being interviewed on TV giving a thumbs-up to Sony for his thoughtfulness and consideration

, the two young ladies smiled, their eyes filled with tenderness

and admiration as they looked at me.

"Junxiong, you're so naughty..."

Kana said sweetly, "Delivering breakfast to people and then immediately having TV reporters interview them, doesn't that

seem like a publicity stunt?"

Yes.

I had Kana call Du Helun and ask him to contact the TV and

newspaper reporters to come. With Du Helun's network of connections, this wasn't difficult.

After so much advertising bombardment, reporters were naturally coming to

cover but not at six in the morning.

If Du Helun hadn't sent them, they would normally have arrived around nine,

but by then, this harmonious scene would be gone, which wouldn't align with our purpose of promoting our goodwill.

Hearing Kana's teasing, I smiled faintly: "Yeah, that's how businessmen are. They spend one dollar and

want to make ten dollars back. They always have a purpose in everything they do. That's why your husband doesn't want to step into the marketplace

."

The shy little beauty glared at Kana and said softly, "Junxiong, Kana is just joking. I

don't did anything wrong. If we hadn't given them free breakfast, they wouldn't have given up queuing to buy breakfast and

would have gone hungry. Now that we've given them breakfast without affecting their queue for PS II, it

's already a good deed. Why can't we tell everyone about the good deed we did? We should spread the word..."

Kana realized she was wrong and quickly threw herself into my arms, kissing my face repeatedly with her pink lips

. "Junxiong... good husband... your little Kana didn't mean that... don't be angry, okay?"

I patted the bouncy, dreamlike buttocks of the beautiful girl and chuckled, "In your mind, is your

man really that stingy? Come on, go back and sit down... If Principal Tamaki or the other teachers see this,

your husband will be kicked out of Sakura Academy right away."

"Giggle..."

Seeing that I wasn't angry, Kana felt reassured and giggled sweetly. She

touched my lips with her little mouth and ran back to Yuko's side.

Busy as we were, time quickly passed to 8:00 AM Scandinavian Time.

Outside the twenty-three specialty stores, the queue had doubled in two hours, reaching

approximately 200,000 people. On average, each store had about 9,000 people, and this number

continued to rise.

Although these stores weren't located in the most bustling areas, they still caused severe traffic congestion,

requiring a large number of police officers to maintain order.

We weren't stingy either; everyone in the newly arrived queue, as well as reporters and police officers, received a

hot breakfast. It didn't cost too much, but the benefits of winning people's hearts were immense.

"Dong...dong..."

As the clocks in each city struck nine, all twenty-three PS II stores

opened .

Each PS II store was over sixty square meters, but even that couldn't handle the sheer number of people; they

couldn't accommodate too many customers at once.

Fortunately, we had rehearsed beforehand, setting up a winding corridor at the store entrance,

letting in , with a five-minute interval between the next group. Even so,

the stores were packed in less than ten seconds.

The police were even more nervous than we were. If too many people rushed in and a stampede occurred, their responsibility

would be severe, potentially leading to dismissal.

So, the police, batons in hand, loudly urged the queue to be patient; it wouldn't be

their turn for long.

The three Nordic countries are highly developed economies with very high levels of public civility. Hearing the police's shouts

and reprimands, the initially agitated crowd quieted down considerably, though their eyes remained fixed on the semi-transparent PS II

stores undiminished fervor.

At each store, twenty Sony

company .

In Western countries, card payments are the mainstream, with cash only used occasionally. This arrangement

is advantageous, saving the hassle of carrying a large basket to collect money.

The benefit of this system is that everyone in line can pay in advance and receive their desired PS II console and game discs as soon as the stores

open .

It's fair to say that the cashiers were the hardest hit during those dozen or so hours. Thanks to

the Japanese people's tenacious work ethic, after a few brief naps, they successfully completed

their task .

By 9:00 AM, they had received final and full payments from over 120,000 customers, totaling

$31.23 million.

Watching the steadily rising figures in their bank accounts, the young women were overjoyed. Although this amount

couldn't compare to the pre-orders from over a million people, witnessing the sales figures climb

was incredibly satisfying for these newcomers to the world of retail.

To ensure a smooth first day of the PS II launch, Okui Sakai borrowed 1,000

staff from the European headquarters. This number was almost a third of the entire Sony Europe headquarters.

Borrowing them would significantly impact other business operations at Sony Europe.

But since Okui Sakai was working for the two young ladies,

Nakai Tetsumin had no choice but to grit his teeth and agree to the request, dispatching only the best and brightest—since the favor

had already been done, he might as well do it well. As a result, each PS II store had at least 100 employees working

simultaneously , setting a record for Sony stores in Europe.

Don't underestimate the sheer number of people involved. Each store would easily see over ten thousand customers.

Out of a hundred employees, twenty were outside collecting payments, and twenty were in the warehouse ready to restock,

leaving sixty to handle customers. They barely got any rest, making their work incredibly demanding.

Meanwhile, half a million customers had already called to confirm they wanted their items mailed to their homes.

Three days prior, these PS II sets and game discs had been shipped in batches to the capitals of the three Nordic countries,

where Sony commissioned local courier companies to handle the shipping.

Packing half a million PS II sets and game discs was no easy task, and since the courier company

had taken on the job, we paid them to help with the packing.

Apparently, during those three days, not only did all the employees pitch in, but even their managers and

general managers worked alongside them, barely managing to complete the packing within the allotted time.

The courier company was short-staffed, so after packing, managers and general managers still

went door-to-door with their employees to deliver the goods. Because many of their employees refused to work overtime, the delivery speed wasn't very fast.

Delivering 500,000 PS II sets and games within three days was already a high level of efficiency.

My two beautiful wives and I remarked that Japanese

employees have it so good; overtime is commonplace there, and actively working overtime is considered an honor!

Before we knew it, three hours had passed. By noon in the three Nordic countries

, 100,000 people had received their desired PS II sets and game discs.

The first few people who received their items couldn't hide their excitement when interviewed. Firstly, they had been eagerly anticipating

this globally bestselling and excellent game console; secondly, they were among the first in the three Nordic countries

to buy them through official channels; and thirdly, they praised Sony's thoughtfulness and care—the free breakfast

truly brought warmth to their hungry and cold condition.

"A company this meticulous and considerate can probably only be found in the ancient and gentle East! For that

reason alone , I think I should buy more of their games!"

A customer's loud praise was certainly pleasing and comforting, but it turned the faces of the executives at Dortson Video Games, who were also watching the interview on

television , pale with anger.

Even with their previous confidence, they couldn't help but worry.

The Dortson Group, comprised of numerous families from the three Nordic countries, was an unshakeable

behemoth in those nations, and Dortson Video Games was merely a small part of the group's business. However,

it maintained the group's consistent attitude: unyielding and inflexible, disregarding its usual supporters

as if it were their due.

Normally, this wouldn't be a problem; after all, Dortson's products were of high quality, and a slightly poor attitude wouldn't matter—

everyone did it that way.

But today, the public had experienced Japanese-style attentive service, and the difference was immediately apparent.

Moreover, this was a live television broadcast; not only did the people at the scene feel it, but those watching on television also witnessed

it.

How could such a humiliating situation not infuriate them?

It could even be said that this frustration far outweighed the blow from the PS II's phenomenal sales.

Not to mention the executives at Dortson Video Games, after the live broadcast of the booming sales

, many people who had already pre-ordered but weren't in a rush, thinking they'd avoid the peak buying period,

started to wonder: "Wouldn't waiting just waste more time?"

So, around 11 a.m., Sony's Nordic customer service hotline received another 200,000

calls requesting delivery within the next three days.

Meanwhile, the queues continued to grow.

This time, without my prompting, the ladies again issued orders to provide lunch

sets , with a high standard, and to also provide tea and drinks in the afternoon. If there were still queues in the evening, they would continue to

provide those as well.

Seeing the results, Okui Sakai had no further doubts and immediately called the two big

bosses , praising the two young ladies' foresight and wisdom...

It must be said that Executive Director Okui's mastery of flattery was unparalleled. Morita Masashige

and Takakawa Terubu didn't rest either, constantly checking on PS II's

sales .

The two fathers were already happy for their daughters seeing the booming sales, and hearing about their daughters' quick thinking and

resourcefulness, they were even happier: "Our daughters have finally grown up!"

At noon, in Aalborg, a major town in northeastern Denmark.

On the outskirts of Aalborg, there stood a six-story modern building with a mythical appearance.

The enormous logo of the Dortson Electronic Games Company stood prominently in front of the garden outside the building.

As Aalborg's top taxpayer, working at Dortson Electronic Games Company was

a dream , resulting in employees walking with their heads held high, exuding an impressive aura.

However, today, even before arriving at the office, lower-level employees were exchanging emails,

text messages, and phone calls, reminding friends and colleagues to keep their heads down and speak

in the softest tone possible.

The television programs, starting at six or seven in the morning, were a familiar sight to

the Scandinavians—accustomed to turning on the TV as soon as they woke up and watching it while washing up—and they all witnessed the long, enthusiastic lines outside the 23 PS II stores.

Such a large number of customers, such eager enthusiasm, was unprecedented in the Nordic countries!

As the dominant force in the video game industry in the Nordic countries, and indeed in Europe as a whole, facing such

a challenge , the employees were naturally unhappy, and they knew that the big bosses were even more displeased… well,

extremely displeased.

But man proposes, God disposes. Originally, everyone wanted to keep a low profile and avoid the limelight, but in just

three , twenty-eight people were scolded for minor issues, fifteen were reprimanded, and eleven

were ordered to produce their game modification plans within a limited time…

Suddenly, a dark cloud hung over the entire Dortson Video Game Company. And the cause of all this was the three bigwigs now

sitting in the multi-functional conference room on the sixth floor.

Every company has its own key figures, like Konosuke Matsushita for Panasonic and

Akio Morita for Sony.

Pedelson, 52 years old, President of Dortson Video Game Company.

Meberg, 45 years old, Marketing Manager of Dortson Video Game Company.

Bassma, 37 years old, Head of Game Development Department of Dortson Video Game Company.

These three are the key figures of Dortson Video Game Company.

Pedelson was adept at utilizing talent, Meberg was skilled at dealing with distributors from various countries and had an extensive network of contacts

, while Basma was a highly talented game developer who was recruited by Pedelson with a hefty sum

right . Not only was he highly capable, but he also had a large and skilled workforce.

Within the Dortson Group, the three were considered a perfect match, but unfortunately, they encountered Sony's

humiliation , leaving these three self-important elites frustrated and angry.

"Tell me, what should we do?" Pedelson

rubbed his temples and asked his two subordinates calmly. His outburst at his employees had not diminished his anger in the slightest; on the contrary, it had only fueled it. Meberg and Basma naturally felt the same way. Meberg was under the most pressure. He had previously ridiculed the PS II advertising and promotion as "the Japanese's pointless spending spree," "destined to end in utter ruin." It wasn't until Inagawa Satoru secretly brought in 50,000 PS IIs, which sold out in less than two hours, that he realized the seriousness of the problem. But the PS II's promotional momentum was already established, and it was too late for Meberg to do anything. "It's all my fault. I underestimated those two girls from Sony, and their poor teacher ," Meberg coughed lightly, offering his own apology. "But I think there , otherwise they wouldn't have been able to pull off something like this." "Heh, Mr. Meberg, you've misjudged them this time, haven't you?"

Basma smiled and said to him, "Why would we need anyone else? With just Liu Junxiong, this little achievement

is a piece of cake."

"Liu Junxiong?" Meberg pronounced the name with some difficulty in Danish. He

said arrogantly, "Minister Basma, do you really think a mere Japanese teacher can compare to me,

a PhD graduate from Oxford University's Business School?"

There was already some conflict between Basma and Meberg, which was very normal in a company

. It would be strange if everyone in a company was harmonious.

What Basma said earlier was actually veiled.

By calling Sony's PS II sales success a "small achievement," he was implying that Meberg's previous sales performance was not even a small achievement

.

Meberg, being a marketing professional, was quick-witted and naturally understood the sarcasm in his words.

Having studied at the most prestigious university in arrogant Britain, he naturally carried a bit of British arrogance, directly

comparing himself to me based on status and position.

But he was completely unaware that by doing so, he had fallen right into Basmar's trap—could anyone who graduated from

Harvard be a fool?

Basmar laughed and said, "Mr. Meborg, I admit that Oxford University is indeed a royal university

in England , but do you think Oxford's business school is inferior to Harvard's

?"

Meborg was momentarily speechless. With the decline of Britain, Oxford University was indeed not what it used to be,

while was at its peak, and Harvard University had naturally risen in status, surpassing Oxford.

However, he was still somewhat unconvinced. "Even if there is a difference, it's not significant. Besides, I graduated

with a doctorate . You wouldn't happen to be talking about Liu Junxiong, who graduated with a doctorate from Harvard Business School, would you?"

Meborg was quite confident about this. He knew that I was only twenty-six years old, and to

graduate with a doctorate from Harvard, one would have to be at least twenty-seven or twenty-eight. As long as he surpassed me in rank,

he would win in everything else.

"No, no, of course not."

Basma shook his head repeatedly, immediately bringing a smile to Meberg's face.

Only Pedelson, who had remained silent, noticed the fleeting hint of mockery in Basma's eyes.

"How could Mr. Liu be just a PhD from Harvard Business School? He holds

PhDs ."

As Meberg's eyes widened, Basma said seriously, "I wonder if such a young man of

only twenty- six years old can be compared to you, Mr. Meberg?"

"You..."

Meberg was furious, his face flushed, but he couldn't utter a single word in rebuttal. With five Harvard PhDs, and only twenty-six years old... even Meberg, with his high self-esteem, wouldn't dare say he could compare to

such a person. "No wonder," Pedelson chuckled, trying to smooth things over. "To achieve great things from the mundane is truly something few can do." "Merburg, losing to such a genius is n't Even I couldn't see through his strategy, could I? Just the free breakfast sets given to everyone in line today are something we couldn't offer." Hearing his boss's words, Meburg's expression softened, but he still felt an urge to punch Basma's smiling face. Advertising was only a small part of the sales strategy; the most important thing was the product itself. " I used to think our company's games were pretty good, but now I realize it wasn't because we were good , but because we didn't have strong competitors. " "Look at the PS II," Basma continued, "not only is the console small and beautiful, but their games are also exceptionally well-made. These kinds of games, with their Eastern characteristics, are rarely seen by people in our three Nordic countries. They immediately piqued the curiosity of those who were experiencing aesthetic fatigue , so their initial success was only natural." Basma was a game developer, a technical elite. People like him are prone to arrogance and can't stand others saying they're not good enough. Therefore, he was also enraged by Meberg: "What are those game designers at Sony? They're just limited to Eastern culture, while our design elites have not only integrated Norse mythology and Greek mythology , but even ancient Babylonian culture and Nile mythology! Their current sales are just selling novelty; in the end, we'll see who's truly superior!" Pedelson laughed: "That's right, it's good to have that kind of confidence. We failed today, but that's nothing. We still hold an absolute advantage in the Nordic markets. Let's wait and see who the real heroes are after all this hype dissipates!" Meberg and Basma nodded in agreement. Although the conflict was their personal grudge, it was only a private matter, not a life-or-death struggle. Although Sony had gone from a crushing defeat in the previous months to a resounding victory, the feud between Dotson and Sony... had only just begun!
