[The Girls' School Teacher] (Episode 24, Chapter 10)

Chapter Ten: The Key to Success or Failure

When Qingyin and I arrived before the enormous gambling stone, I felt the scene before me was very similar to that of

Sun Zhenyi —two people who didn't get along, arguing over a gambling stone.

Upon seeing me, Asai Yoshimasa naturally greeted me warmly and politely, while Oda Okifumi was

not to be outdone , his enthusiasm and respect for me clearly exceeding what they had shown when they first met.

I knew, however, that Oda Okifumi's enthusiasm and respect for me wasn't his true intention; he simply didn't want to lose to

Asai Yoshimasa.

Several ultra-wealthy individuals nearby, maintaining their status, greeted me politely but with a distance.

Qingyin acting as a little spy, quietly introduced their identities to me.

On Asai Yoshimasa's side were two couples: one man, Horio Hide, was the

director ; the other was Kinchiin Moritori, a core member of the Mitsui Group and the head of Mitsukoshi Company.

Beside Oda Okifumi were only a couple, Mikishi Michitaka, a heavyweight member of the Mitsui Group and the

actual .

Truly a gathering of the super-rich!

The combined wealth and power of these five individuals was enough to rival the financial strength of a small country—what

an impressive sight!

The two top appraisers leisurely conducted their appraisals, and the two groups present maintained excellent composure, discussing their own

matters. The appraisers brought by Horio Hide and his group, adhering to the rules of the appraisal world,

stood , only allowed to approach and observe after the two masters had finished their appraisals.

Looking at Qingyin standing beside me, Oda Okifumi couldn't hide his doting affection, and his tone towards me

was no longer condescending: "Mr. Liu, thank you so much for choosing two top-quality jadeite pieces for our Qingyin."

I replied calmly, "It was just good luck, or rather, Qingyin's good luck. Otherwise, why didn't I find any jadeite pieces for my two students

later ?"

Oda Koyuki smiled gently: "The little girl is indeed lucky, but she's too mischievous. I hope

Mr. Liu , lest she become even more unruly when she grows up."

Given Oda Koyuki's status, for her to say such a thing already represented goodwill towards me,

and it also subtly implied that she wanted Qingyin to study in my class like Xiaochun and the others.

The reason wasn't because I had found two top-quality jadeite pieces for Qingyin, but because this beautiful young mother had noticed

that her daughter was very close to this teacher and even admired him a little. This way, she could obediently learn

various knowledge and cultivate her character under my guidance.

"I'm lawless? I'm very well-behaved, okay..."

the sweet girl murmured softly.

The Oda couple smiled, pretending not to hear their daughter's complaints.

"It's rather presumptuous of us to invite Mr. Liu here, but given your ability to choose a jade for my daughter

, I'd like to trouble you for a bit."

Oda Okifumi pondered for a moment before explaining his purpose in inviting me. He pointed to the jade beside him and said, "

Master Sakuma and Master Matsuno both think highly of this jade. I'm just hesitating about what price

would be appropriate."

I was taken aback. I had thought it would be a matter of the two masters having conflicting opinions, one thinking it was good and the other

not but it turned out that both were optimistic.

Since both were optimistic, Oda Okifumi and Asai Yoshimasa were even less likely to give up. What they were considering now

was what price would be appropriate to make a move, enough to crush their enemy while still making some

profit... Well, to be honest, to crush their enemy, losing a little money was acceptable, as long as it wasn't too much.

Upon hearing this, I carefully examined the rough stone.

It was a semi-rough stone, enormous in size, with a deep, dark black surface that, while not rough,

appeared quite fine.

A sign next to it read: "Hpakant, Price: Five Million US Dollars."

In the upper left corner, a large opening had been made, revealing at least twenty centimeters

of green jadeite. Just by looking at it, I knew the exposed jadeite had good color and clarity, at least a five-point (out of five) grade of

bright green. No wonder Myanmar had offered such an astonishing price of five million US dollars.

Beside the opening, a band resembling a giant python, with many bluish-green markings,

spiraled downwards, encircling the massive rough stone three times.

This single feature was enough to suggest that there were at least two or three other jade bands inside, of similar color, clarity, and size to the

exposed jadeite.

However, this was only based on experience and intuition; the true extent of the problem

could .

Withdrawing my gaze, I shared my opinion: "This rough stone is too risky; it's either a huge win

or a huge loss!"

The stone is undeniably tempting, but because the opening looks so good, it

's hard to believe its value will skyrocket after cutting. What if it's just a few pieces of "skin-peel green"

?

"Skin-peel green" refers to a stone that looks good at the opening, but only has a thin layer of jade

near the surface. Once cut open, the "skin-peel green," barely thicker than a sheet of paper,

will leave gamblers heartbroken.

"Yes, that's what the two masters said too, which is why they examined it so many times."

Hearing that my assessment matched the two masters', Oda Okifumi's admiration for me increased even more.

Just then, Sakuma Nozomu and Matsuno Yumura stepped back, sitting in chairs nearby, panting

heavily , their eyes closed. Clearly, the appraisal had taken a toll on their mental energy, and they

needed to calm down and rest.

They stepped back, and the three appraisers, who had been itching to get started, immediately rushed forward, their faces

solemn as they examined the Hpakant jadeite.

I, naturally, also stepped forward without hesitation. After they finished examining the opening, I pretended to shine a powerful

flashlight on the exposed jadeite.

The strong light scattering was significant, indicating excellent transparency. It was indeed the five-point water grade of bright green I

had just assessed, which was consistent with the characteristics of Hpakant jadeite—jadeite from Hpakant...

Jadeite, generally as delicate and translucent as its outer skin, is what makes Hpakant

a top contender .

However, judging from the exposed green veins, the pattern is somewhat chaotic. I'm not sure if

there will be more surprises above or below the "python skin" pattern, but in any case, the possibility of finding green is greater than the possibility of not finding it at all.

As mentioned earlier, don't even think about the unlikely possibility of full green. As long as there are two or three jade veins and the translucency is as good as the one on

the surface , then the price might be ten million US dollars.

Next, I placed one hand on the "python skin" pattern of the Hpakant jadeite, and slowly channeled my inner energy into

the interior of the stone.

I first directed my inner energy to the area around the opening in the upper left corner of the jadeite, and immediately cursed under my breath:

"Damn it, these old foxes!" Just as I had anticipated, this seemingly translucent

green piece was actually just "skin green," its thickness not even exceeding five millimeters, and within five centimeters of

the opening , it completely broke apart, failing to form a single jade vein.

The master craftsmen in Myanmar truly do reserve their best for those buying rough jade!

I sighed inwardly, my inner energy relentlessly flowing down the vein of the jade, only to find a few jade strips no more than five

centimeters —far from deserving such a fine appearance.

If it were only this quality, let alone five million US dollars, even five hundred thousand would be too expensive.

However, after the disappointing exterior, I wasn't discouraged. Sometimes,

surprises do appear inside Hpakant jade!

My inner energy started from the center of the rough, probing twenty centimeters in—all white-gray stone. Further in,

after another thirty centimeters, it suddenly transformed into a vibrant, deep emerald green, a

bright crystal clear and captivating at first glance. Moreover, this green was incredibly wide, almost completely enveloping

half of the central stone, forming a semi-circle, sixty centimeters long, fifty centimeters wide, and about ten centimeters thick.

This was true Hpakant jade! I exclaimed in admiration.

With this semi-circular green, a value of ten million US dollars was not an exaggeration at all.

Just to be on the safe side, I examined the green area more closely again.

There were no flaws, no cracks, and the quality was indeed crystal clear. But when I reached

the bottom , about fifteen centimeters wide, half-circle of jade, I suddenly discovered another surprise.

Spring with color!

It was actually spring with color!

On the bright green jadeite with five points of clarity, faint traces of purple faintly emerged.

What else could this be but the one-in-a-hundred spring with color?

If I hadn't observed more carefully, I would have almost missed this rare, exquisite half-circle of jadeite!

With this, the ten million US dollars I had just estimated was far from enough to represent the value of this Hpakant rough stone

. With this half-circle of spring with color, at least another five million US dollars could be added!

Overjoyed, I even considered participating in the sealed bid. The raw jadeite was already worth fifteen million

US dollars; if I used ancient secret techniques to polish it into a royal-grade jadeite, wouldn't the price multiply several times,

reaching an astonishing price of at least fifty million US dollars?

But after thinking it over, I decided to give up.

After all, this rough stone was too eye-catching. If I bought it and cut it open, revealing

its true nature , there might be even more trouble later—if I succeeded in gambling on rough stones again and again,

wouldn't people flock to me for appraisals and break down my door? My low-key and happy life would be disturbed!

Seeing me return, Asai Yoshimasa came over and said, "Mr. Liu, what do you think of this rough stone?" Oda Okifumi,

who was standing next to me, clenched his fists angrily: "Damn it, I invited Mr. Liu to help me

, what are you doing here?" Asai Yoshimasa obviously had the intention of deliberately causing trouble. He didn't even look at Oda Okifumi,

but just looked at me sincerely.

I smiled faintly, "This rough stone comes from Hpakant, and it's of excellent quality. According to my estimate, it's worth at least

eight million US dollars, but if it's worth ten million more, then it's a loss."

Of course, I couldn't be too certain. If I said it was worth fifteen million US dollars, I'd

definitely , and I didn't want to enter the world of rough stone gambling.

Oda Okifumi and Asai Yoshimasa both nodded and smiled. Although they didn't quite believe me, they still

thanked .

To be honest, Oda Okifumi invited me here mainly to thank me for helping Kiyone find a bargain and to take my

opinion as a reference. He didn't really rely on me much. What he and Asai Yoshimasa really cared about was the opinions of

the two masters.

But many people didn't notice that Sakuma Nozomi and Matsuno Yumura nodded almost imperceptibly after hearing my assessment, although

they didn't open their eyes.

Five minutes later, the two masters had recovered a bit of their energy. They each went to one side and, together with

several appraisers who had also stepped down, the two groups of people quietly discussed the final price.

Qingyin and I found some peace and quiet, standing alone in front of the jade gambling table, watching the two groups negotiate.

"How boring, Junxiong!"

The sweet girl had already handed the two pieces of jade to Oda Koyuki, her hands behind her back, and

said , "Why don't we pick a few more scraps and watch the masters cut them?"

"The deadline for the sealed bid is almost here. The jade craftsmen will stop cutting the scraps and take a break to prepare for the big event

later ,"

I said calmly. "You'll get to see that."

"Oh, okay..."

Thinking about the big event later, and the possibility of seeing more top-quality and high-grade jade, the little girl

became .

The sweet girl was very lively and loved to join in the fun, so of course she loved seeing exciting scenes.

Next, Asai Yoshimasa finished his negotiation first. I only watched from afar, but from the way his hands moved,

I knew he had filled in a price of 10.05 million US dollars.

As Asai Yoshimasa tossed the small cloth bag into the bamboo basket, Oda Okifumi began writing down his bid

, a staggering ten million and one hundred thousand US dollars.

Asai Yoshimasa was indeed shrewd! He had deliberately written down a very small amount, indicating he was very familiar with Oda Okifumi's

personality and knew roughly what price he would bid, so he intentionally exceeded his offer. He then obtained the secret...

After bidding, he could still humiliate Oda Okibun.

A mere tens of thousands of dollars difference decided the outcome of a battle; it was truly fascinating.

Oda Okibun was, after all, a few years younger than Asai Yoshimasa, and in terms of understanding people's hearts, he was no match for Asai Yoshimasa

!

I looked at the sweet, young beauty beside me, and then thought of the elegant and aloof Fumi, increasingly feeling

that letting their fathers continue fighting like this wouldn't be good for either of the lovely girls.

"Little imp, go tell your father to change the price to ten million and fifty thousand dollars."

Thinking this, I softly said to the sweet girl beside me.

"Hmm?"

Kiyone looked up, saw me nod slightly, and the clever girl immediately

skipped away running towards Oda Okibun who was about to put the cards into his small bag.

Given the sweet girl's intelligence, she naturally didn't reveal that I had told her to do so.

Anyway, I saw her pull out the cards, look at them with a shake of her head, and then

start . Oda Koyuki then joined in on her daughter's persuasion, finally getting Oda Okibum to smile

wryly and change the price on the cards before putting them in his small bag.

In Oda Okibum's eyes, his daughter was just being playful; a difference of tens of thousands of dollars was nothing, so he figured he might as well add

it. Little did he know, this mere tens of thousands of dollars was the key to success or failure!
