[The Girls' School Teacher] (Episode 30, Chapter 6)

Chapter Six: Recreating the Hand of God

The first thing delivered to our home was a complete set of porcelain repair tools that Yao had helped us buy.

Three large wooden crates filled the yard, and it took the girls and me several trips to carry everything

into the living room.

I temporarily partitioned off a corner of the living room to create a workshop for repairing blue and white porcelain.

A large rectangular wooden table stood there; we even turned off the air conditioning in the living room, worried that the airflow might

scatter or discolor the various pigments, lacquer, and clay.

A small clay polishing machine sat next to the large wooden table. Larger, lower-quality blue and white porcelain pieces were

ground powder, which was then specially formulated into usable clay.

A small handheld vacuum cleaner was essential for absorbing excess dust and residue.

There was also a row of utility knives in leather cases, ten different sizes, all included.

In the center was a large electric turntable with twelve speed settings, allowing us

to rotate .

In addition, glue, paint, resin, utensils, brushes, and so on were neatly categorized and placed

aside , trying not to take up space in the middle.

As for the heater, I specifically told Haruka not to buy one, because heat and fusion are the most important

steps , and I don't need such a tool at all. I use another method.

"Wow..."

Looking at the tools that filled several tables of various sizes, Asagi seemed to have learned something new: "I didn't expect that a

repair job would require so many things. How troublesome it must be to repair it like this?"

I smiled and said: "You should be grateful, little girl. If Ryuji hadn't broken the blue and white porcelain at home and

not caused any major damage, it wouldn't have been so simple. In that case, I would have had to borrow a special porcelain

repair workshop."

"Okay, okay, Toshio, thank you for your hard work..."

The lively and charming beauty was very smart. The assassin would never make me angry. One flattery

after another followed. "Leave the tea and water service to me later. I guarantee you'll be comfortable and

can focus entirely on your work."

Hearing her good friend's rare compliments, Lingxin chuckled. She said softly, "Junxiong, I never knew

you were so skilled in porcelain restoration. How did you learn that? You've learned so much, so

many different things!"

I didn't answer but instead asked, "You already know my skill before we've even started?"

Lingxin waved her delicate hand. "Look, so many tools, so many materials.

Could you be so well-prepared without countless hours of practice?"

Hearing this elegant and pure girl's words, Qianzhi also became interested.

Qianzhi didn't dare to compete with me now. After witnessing my endless stream of strengths, she gradually became as curious about me

as , wanting to explore just how many amazing abilities I possessed.

I was speechless. "I said I wanted a set of these tools, so of course the sellers in the market have all of them. Everyone does it

the same way!"

Lingxin giggled playfully. "Then what do you know about the order and location of our items? Isn't that how

everyone does it? I just sat down and realized that there's a reason for how many things are arranged.

Do you want me to tell you?"

I quickly raised my hands. "Lingxin, please let your teacher keep a little mystery. If

you know everything, won't your teacher's image plummet?"

The elegant and pure girl gazed at me for a few moments, then tilted her head back. "Junxiong, even if you don't tell me, I'll find them all

!"

The girl's aura was firm and profound, and I sensed that there were still some thoughts hidden in her eyes that I hadn't quite grasped

.

Unfortunately, when I looked at her again, Lingxin had already walked to the other side. When she brought me a cup of tea

, only a gentle light remained in her beautiful eyes.

The second item found was the blue and white porcelain.

Eri found a blue-and-white porcelain plate, and Yuko found a phoenix-shaped blue-and-white teapot. After hearing their descriptions of

its shape and size, I immediately asked them to send it over.

This solved the clay problem.

The Sumali blue was a bit more troublesome. One of Chikage's uncles had some Sumali blue, but he was currently in

America attending an auction, and the key to the collection was with him. I calculated

that there wouldn't be enough time to fly back, so I had to give up.

In the end, Koharu was the most resourceful. She had her family's men search all over Shikoku without success. Then,

Teraguchi Kirimoto mentioned that he had received a gift from a friend in Indonesia, which seemed to contain several bottles of some kind of

paint .

Koharu quickly called her father to go to her warehouse, where they found the paint bottles in a wooden box.

One of the bottles had the Chinese characters "Sumali blue" on the label, and it weighed quite a bit, about half a jin (250 grams).

I was already surprised to find so much Sumali blue; I had originally thought I would have to find several sources to collect it all,

but Koharu had managed to get it all by herself.

You know, the current market price of cobalt blue pigment is enough to buy an equivalent weight of gold!

Whether it's blue and white porcelain or cobalt blue pigment, once I was sure it was usable, I immediately had it flown to my house and delivered

by special person .

All three conditions were met; the rest was up to my skill.

I remember when I was little, my father once restored a super-fine Ru ware piece for a friend. I saw the broken

porcelain shards quickly transformed into an incredibly beautiful vase in his hands, and I immediately became interested, asking him to teach

me.

Oh, I immediately knew I was asking for trouble. My father chuckled and pulled out over a dozen books for me

to memorize . They were full of experiences and lessons learned by ancient restoration experts, as well as the combinations and

uses of various lacquer and clay materials, covering a very broad and profound range of knowledge. It took me three whole years to earn my father's assessment that I was "

barely one-tenth as skilled as him."

Looking back now, it seems that after I successfully learned the craft, I only repaired more than 300 pieces of porcelain

of various sizes After that, there was suddenly no opportunity for me to show off my skills... Anyway, the old man

didn't take on this kind of business. I guess it's because the old man charged too high a price, which deterred others!

Since it was still early, I grabbed a porcelain plate from the kitchen, smashed it on the workbench, and

started practicing with my tools.

The girls stood behind me, watching as I skillfully glued the dozens of pieces of the plate back together

. After touch-ups, scraping, and polishing, in less than ten minutes, a

plate that looked brand new reappeared before them.

"No way..."

Asahi took the plate from me in disbelief and gently tried to pry it open, but it wouldn't budge.

Ayaka thought for a moment, then held the plate up to a bright light. The light shone through the plate, revealing the slight

color differences.

Even so, the plate still fit perfectly overall; it seemed to have a crack, but it wasn't

completely broken .

"It's been a while since I've done this kind of thing, my skills have gotten rusty."

Seeing the method Lingxin used for identification, I nodded slightly and said, "If you want to avoid seeing any traces,

you can use a heater to bake it, so that the joints are completely fused together. At the same time, the entire porcelain plate will

gradually ."

"If that's the case, why not buy a heater?" Asahi asked, blinking her big eyes.

"A heater can certainly make the porcelain look more like a whole piece, but it also has its drawbacks." I laughed,

"It will destroy the original color of the porcelain. And the color of blue and white porcelain is one of its main advantages. If there is

such a big change, your grandfather will definitely be able to tell."

"Oh, what method do you plan to use to replace the heater?" Asahi continued to ask.

"It's a secret."

"Hmph, stingy..." Asahi was taken aback for a moment, then muttered, "You're just

like those people in the books, always hiding a few skills from the land. That's how many precious skills are lost!"

I waved my hand with a wry smile: "It's not that the teacher is being cowardly, but it requires another skill from the teacher

to complete, and this skill requires more than ten years of continuous practice to master. So even if you knew,

it wouldn't be of any use."

The elegant and pure girl asked curiously, "Is it the legendary martial arts?"

I nodded, "Sort of."

"Oh, there really is martial arts..."

Asahi exclaimed in surprise, "Quick, Toshio, quickly show me a set of punches!"

"Do you think I'm some kind of traveling entertainer?" I glared at her.

"You're not moving, are you? Hmph, don't think I don't know, you're the one who saved us that night

, you can even use a wine bottle as a weapon, I'm so cool..." The lively and charming girl pouted.

Faced with her questioning, I could only pretend not to hear, cough lightly, pick up another porcelain bowl, and, as usual,

smash it on the workbench and began to repair it.

Asagi wanted to press on, but Ayaka tugged at her clothes, signaling her not to disturb me.

Asagi wanted to press on, but Ayaka tugged at her clothes, signaling her not to disturb me.

The lively and charming girl's lips pouted so much they could hang an oil bottle: "You despicable Toshio! You think you can escape

? I will definitely find out all your secrets!"

The plate and the blue-and-white dragon-patterned plum vase were both examples of complete porcelain shard repair.

Complete porcelain shard repair means that there are no missing pieces; all the broken pieces can be pieced together to complete

the porcelain .

This type of repair is considered the easiest in porcelain repair because the materials are almost never needed; all that's required is

carefulness and meticulousness in gluing and repairing… Well, of course, if it's blue-and-white porcelain, the fit must be

particularly precise, which is also one of the difficulties in repair.

The most difficult aspect of porcelain restoration is dealing with pieces that are severely damaged. The restorer must

meticulously repair the missing parts according to the original piece, then repaint, recolor, and fill in any imperfections… Finally, the style and craftsmanship

must be indistinguishable from the original antique porcelain for it to be considered a success.

Most of the porcelain I repair are these kinds of damaged pieces. The most extreme example is a large Ding ware jar with only a base, and very little of the

original painting remains.

For this kind of work, I spent ten days just consulting various porcelain books, determining the original piece,

then finding materials, honing my painting skills, firing the porcelain body, and so on—it took a full month to complete.

According to the old man's drunken boast, he received a million US dollars for this Ding ware jar; I wonder

which fool was fooled.

Returning to the present, I decided to set aside some of the fragments of the bowl and instead create new porcelain shards

myself using porcelain powder and resin to fill in the gaps.

Although the process of making porcelain shards for the blue-and-white dragon and plum blossom design didn't involve creating porcelain pieces, my purpose

was I didn't adhere to any particular method.

The girls watched as I first used super glue to attach the porcelain bowl, but this time several pieces were missing, making it look

damaged .

Next, I mixed porcelain powder and resin together, kneading them into pieces like a game, and then

pasted them into the missing areas from the inside.

Then, I used wood to fill in the gaps and repair the missing parts. Soon, the porcelain bowl became a

whole , only the color and pattern on the surface were no longer consistent.

Next, I used a blower, having Asagi use it to heat and repair the missing parts, while I continued to

fill in and remove excess pieces with a wood file.

Under the heat, the repaired white porcelain shards gradually hardened, no longer as soft as before, and

looked more like a whole.

Last night, I also used paint to carefully outline the patterns on the milky-white

porcelain bowl's .

In less than a minute, the painting on the three missing porcelain pieces was finished, and the pretty girl behind me couldn't help but exclaim in amazement.

After finishing the painting, I placed the porcelain bowl under a strong light. The heat of Chengdu allowed the paint to dry

without melting it into water and ruining the design.

After turning it over under the light for about five minutes, seeing that the paint had completely set, I turned the hair dryer to

its highest heat setting, placed an electric turntable on it, and then fixed the hair dryer in place to continue baking the porcelain bowl.

The whole process took a total of thirty minutes. As soon as I took the porcelain bowl off the electric turntable,

the lively and snatched it away.

If they hadn't seen it with their own eyes,

they wouldn't have believed that this porcelain bowl was a pile of broken pieces just half an hour ago.

Lingxin brought another identical bowl from the kitchen and placed it next to the first. They looked at it from left to right,

unable to find any flaws in its appearance.

The only difference was the inside of the two bowls. The repaired bowl had rough

patches where , while the unbroken bowl had a smooth interior.

"If you want the inside to be the same, a simpler process is to use a polishing powder and electroplating

," I explained. "This is a mass-produced porcelain process, and electroplating will also

change the color of the cobalt blue, so it's not suitable for repairing a blue-and-white dragon-patterned plum vase."

Seeing my seemingly miraculous repair skills, the two beauties no longer had any doubts. They nodded

happily , expressing their admiration.

"Junxiong… I suddenly feel a little more confident…" Asahi Assassin was finally truly confident.

Lingxin's smile was even more tender, because she had never been worried.
