[The Girls' School Teacher] (Episode 5, Chapter 10)

Chapter Ten: Lives Matter The

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a general term; it actually encompasses more than just one or two rooms. Smaller hospitals might have half a floor

dedicated to ICUs, while larger hospitals could have two or three floors.

Osaka Municipal Hospital is a large hospital, with three entire floors dedicated to sterile ICUs.

The effectiveness isn't immediately apparent, but today, with fifty-eight children arriving at once, the

wisdom of those who allocated such a large area for ICUs became clear.

Since the children's conditions were largely similar—vomiting, diarrhea, and weakness—

they were placed in several large rooms for easier care and observation.

When I arrived, eight children in one room still had numerous medical instruments attached to them, and

their conditions didn't seem very good.

The doctors and nurses caring for the children were taken aback when the female nurse approached. Behind her

, although I was wearing a doctor's coat, I had no name tag or identification, making me seem like I wasn't a doctor at this

hospital . Before they could ask, the nurse said softly, "This is the gentleman who

performed the intracranial hemorrhage surgery on Miss Changshu last night ." The room was filled with the flashing sounds of various instruments, but the sterile intensive care unit required a quiet environment. The nurse's voice wasn't loud, but everyone around could hear her. The doctors and nurses' gazes towards me suddenly shifted from suspicion to intense fervor. Those who aren't doctors or nurses can hardly understand what intracranial hemorrhage surgery is, let alone the difficulty of performing such a procedure. In front of such a medical master, how could they dare to show any airs? "Thank you all for your hard work," I said coldly without wasting words. "Tell me about the condition of each child you are responsible for ." As I spoke, I was already in front of the first child, and with a quick movement, my right index and middle fingers were already on the child's right wrist. A doctor handed me the records he had written down, explaining rapidly, "This child's vomiting particularly severe; he's vomited blood five times, and his heartbeat is extremely fast, but his stool is normal, and his red blood cell count is rapidly increasing." I glanced at the test data and released my grip on the child's fingers. "His condition is relatively stable. Administer Promirnocin a dose of 300:1, Mondota at a dose of 100:1, along with glucose solution at a rate of 50 drops per minute." "Understood!" The doctor instructed the nurse to prepare. The second child was a girl, and I began taking her pulse again. The doctor followed, saying, "She's a bit more pitiful ; her vomiting and diarrhea aren't severe, but she's unconscious." Before he could bring me the second child's test results, I had already stood up. "Her intestines have been damaged. Immediately cleanse them with Manirson and transfer her to the operating room for surgery." "Understood!" The doctor paused, then without a word, instructed the nurse standing nearby to begin preparations for transporting her to the operating room . After examining the third, fourth... a total of twenty-seven children, I discovered that five more needed immediate surgery, while the rest could be managed with medication and avoid surgery. Several doctors had already accompanied me, each leaving with reverence and admiration. After instructing on the medication for the last child, I checked the time; half an hour . "Let's go, take me to change into my surgical gown. We need to start the surgery quickly; we can't delay any longer!" I said, turning to the nurse who had been following me. "Okay, sir, please... Ah! Sir!" Before the nurse could finish speaking, she was horrified to see me stumble and fall to the ground after taking only one step. Several doctors and nurses were beside me, and they quickly tried to help me up, but I stood up before them, took a deep breath, and said, "It's nothing, I'm probably just a little tired." "Sir!" A doctor in his fifties hesitated for a moment before speaking, "I also studied a little traditional Chinese medicine. In just half an hour, you diagnosed twenty-seven children using pulse diagnosis. That's incredibly exhausting ! You need to sit down and rest for a while." "Dr. Anton, is it really that serious?" a nurse interjected. "What do you know?" Dr. Anton snapped. "Traditional Chinese medicine pulse diagnosis is extremely mentally taxing. Each patient is equivalent to the mental exertion of an average person running ten kilometers. And you, sir, diagnosed twenty-seven children in thirty minutes, which is ten times more intense. The fall just now was a minor incident; a sudden fainting spell could last for days!" "Ah? How can that be!" The nurse beside me panicked. "Sir, please rest for a while. Other doctors are performing the surgeries . Don't rush ." "No," I shook my head and said, "The children's conditions are not optimistic. To ensure their future lives are not affected, the sooner the surgery, the better... To put it bluntly, the doctors at your hospital are far less adept than me at preserving the children's intestines during these surgeries." With that, I started walking. "So, I have to go." "Sir!" The doctors and nurses felt a lump in their throats, as if something was about to spill over. "Hmm... I'll take you there!" The nurse following me wiped her eyes and ran a few steps to my side: "Come on, sir, put your arm on my shoulder, it'll be more comfortable walking." "I'm not as fragile as you think," I coldly refused. "Just lead the way." Actually, I was a little embarrassed to say that they all misunderstood. My sudden fall was indeed due to exhaustion, but not entirely because of the intense pulse diagnosis. Before coming here, I had a two-hour-long battle with my three concubines , that was the real physically demanding work. But in fact, my physical fatigue was obvious. The doctors and nurses behind me watched me stagger out, and unknowingly, tears welled up in their eyes. "Just now, I heard that after your surgery yesterday, you left through the side door. I thought you were just putting on a show..." Dr. Anton murmured, "Now I feel like a beast! Such a ungrateful..."

"How could a doctor who takes no credit, bears no responsibility, yet exhausts himself trying to save

children , be that kind of person?"

Ten minutes later, I still entered the operating room. As I had instructed, eight of the most seriously ill

children were already in several adjacent rooms, each equipped with sophisticated

facilities . Six doctors and twelve nurses were preparing, waiting for me to begin surgery.

They were to take turns assisting me in my eight surgeries. The experience gained from each surgery would benefit the next

, so even those not currently assisting had to sit and observe,

ready to .

"Sir, please take care of yourself!" The nurse who was with me had already

told everyone about my experience in the intensive care unit; the doctors and nurses were all worried about me.

"I know I'm fine," I said calmly. "Everyone's working hard, so you all need to

pull yourselves together!"

"But sir... they're only doing one surgery each, and Dr. Tominaga is only preparing for two,"

the nurse pleaded. "Your treatment of twenty-seven children in the ICU was equivalent to

several surgeries, and now there are eight more, and the most serious ones at that. You..."

I raised my hand to stop her, coldly replying, "A gentleman knows what to do and what not to do. As a doctor,

as long as I have a breath left, I must treat the sick and save lives. This is a doctor's inescapable duty. Alright, are you all

ready?"

"Yes!" The voices were particularly loud and resolute.

"Let's begin. I'm counting on you all," I nodded. "I'm counting on you all." After the proper formalities, a group of doctors and nurses quickly got to work

at my command . Nearly a hundred parents waited outside the operating room, unable to do anything more effective, only kneeling on the ground, silently praying. That night, countless people in Osaka couldn't sleep... After a grueling battle with my concubines, I examined and diagnosed twenty-seven children, followed by eight surgeries . It was only thanks to my years of practicing internal energy cultivation that I managed to pull through. Even so, after finishing the last surgery, I walked a few steps out of the operating room and , without any regard for appearances, closed my eyes and gasped for breath on a chair outside the side door, quickly using my internal energy to regulate my body's energy flow. But I wasn't the most exhausted. Of the six doctors and twelve nurses who assisted me, four doctors and nine nurses collapsed and were taken out. The doctors and nurses who managed to finish the last surgery lay down in the sterile waiting area outside the operating room after handing the children over to the intensive care unit doctors, never wanting to get up again. This exhaustion was due to two reasons: firstly, the sheer intensity of the work, and secondly, my incredibly fast pace. Each surgery lasted no more than thirty minutes—from start to finish stitching—and even describing it as lightning-fast would be slow. Just as I was regaining my strength, I heard footsteps and stopped beside me. A steaming placed in front of me. Looking up, I saw the nurse who had been following me. She wasn't one of the doctors and nurses assisting me; she was coordinating in the sterile waiting area. It seemed she was free now. The nurse had removed her mask, and her appearance was striking. Beneath her arched eyebrows, her eyes were bright and clear, and her face was as translucent as crystal, making her incredibly pretty. I removed my mask, took the coffee/milk tea, and after taking a sip, I felt much warmer. The nurse, rarely having the chance to scrutinize my face, stared intently at me. "Sir, are you tired?" The nurse sat down beside me without ceremony, still holding her own cup of milk tea. "Dr. Tominaga is still performing his second surgery; the other doctors just finished theirs." "Have you gotten the test results for the children's mass poisoning?" I asked casually. "It's not conclusive yet," the nurse replied, "but it's probably a dietary issue, and we should be able to find out soon." "Tell them to pay closer attention to the milk," I stood up. "During the surgery, I noticed traces of milk on the residue in their intestines, with more in areas where the poisoning was most severe." "I understand. I'll tell the director later." The nurse stood up with me and said, "Sir, wouldn't you like to rest? Our hospital has special rest rooms for doctors. You don't look well, and besides, it's already past five. There's no need to rush." "No need," I finished my coffee and milk tea in one gulp and walked out without looking back. "Thank you for the milk tea !"
