And so, we talked about *Dream of the Red Chamber*, about Hai Zi and his line, "The night gave me black eyes, but I use them to seek the light," about Shao Ping, Shao An, Xiao Xia, and Run Ye from Lu Yao's *Ordinary World*… Nearly two weeks of continuous QQ communication quickly shortened the distance between us. To be honest, true friends are rare in life, and I saw Shui Zhongyue more as a kindred spirit, with less of any lustful intentions. In this restless, materialistic, and fast-paced Shenzhen, it's rare to find someone like this, someone with whom you can have a quiet dialogue.
What ultimately brought us together was photography. Shui Zhongyue had fallen in love with photography, and her husband had just bought her the then-popular Nikon D90 APS-C DSLR camera. I happened to use this camera frequently at work, so we had another point of intersection. From using a wide aperture to blur the background, to locking the focus point for secondary composition, to perfectly controlling the color balance of the image, we finally agreed to meet at the mangrove forest along the coastal road. We agreed to go birdwatching together at the beach.
The mangroves and the beach in November were breathtakingly beautiful. Large flocks of white seabirds circled and perched here. Like old friends, Shui Zhongyue and I walked hand-in-hand along the winding seaside path. The sun shone on us, everything felt so comfortable.
