My wife's chance encounter with a foreign friend

Today I'm sharing a story about my wife meeting a foreign friend a few years ago. I remember it was late summer, early autumn; the mornings and evenings were a bit chilly, but the midday sun was still warm. That noon, she was at a fast-food restaurant near her office. After finishing her meal, she realized she didn't have enough money in her purse when she went to pay. Back then, online payments weren't common in small shops, so she hurriedly explained to the clerk, "I eat here often; could you pay the twenty yuan when I come back tomorrow?" The clerk said, "The boss isn't here; I can't make that decision. Miss, if you can't, call your family to bring the money. I'm just a worker; I can't afford to give credit." Just as my wife was about to make the call, a tall, blond, blue-eyed foreign man walked over and asked the clerk in broken Chinese, "How much does this lady need?" He then pulled out his wallet and said to my wife, "I'll lend it to you." We always preach about learning from Lei Feng, but when faced with real difficulties, everyone around just stood by, watching the spectacle. The one who stepped forward to learn from Lei Feng was a foreigner! Later, my wife said she was genuinely surprised and moved at the time. The wife said, "How can I contact you? I'll return the money to you tomorrow." The foreigner joked, "No need, beautiful lady, let's have dinner together next time as a thank you!" and asked for the wife's contact information.

That afternoon, the two chatted casually on WeChat.

The wife said, "Thank you for your help at noon today, I'll transfer the money to you via WeChat."

The foreigner replied, "Sure, it's nice to meet you, you're very beautiful, I'm happy to serve you."

The wife asked, "How long have you been in China? Your Chinese is very good!"

The foreigner said, "You can call me Nino, I'm French, I've been in China for almost eight years, I'm a university teacher, beautiful lady, what's your name?"

The wife said, "You can call me Jie."

Nino said, "Jie, you're very charming. I noticed you as soon as you entered the restaurant, and I was wondering how we could meet? Later..."

The wife said, "Isn't this fate? How old are you? Are you married?"

Nino replied, "I'm 36 years old, not married, I've had a few girlfriends, currently single."

For the next day or two, the two chatted whenever they had free time. He learned that his wife was married, but he kept saying he wanted to invite her to dinner and to his home. When my wife came home that evening, she seemed very excited and told me she had met a French friend. She kept praising his beauty and said she wanted to invite him to dinner, asking me what I thought. I asked her in return, "What do you think?" She said it was quite novel; she'd never made friends with a foreigner before. From her words, I could tell she was quite interested. I then asked her what this Nino looked like. She said he looked quite handsome and very tall. I joked that since he praised her beauty and wanted to invite her out, it couldn't be just for dinner, right? My wife laughed and said, "When a man invites a woman out to dinner, which one is just looking for a meal? They all have a clear purpose, and I guess Nino is the same." I asked her if she planned to go. She said she was a little curious, but whether she went or not was up to me. I was also driven by curiosity and wanted to see what this Nino was up to. So I told my wife that we should get to know each other better and meet him in a few days. My wife agreed.
