Passionate Shenzhen 20

Since learning to dance, I finally found something to do on my lonely, boring evenings. Whenever I had free time, I would go to the East Square of Zhongshan Park, enjoying the fragrance and softness of my teacher's wife. During this time, Sister Lan and Boss Zhang invited me out a few times, but I declined, much to their displeasure. Having a foundation to begin with, and with Sister Zheng's personal instruction, my dancing skills improved rapidly. Within a month or two, I could dance the three-step, four-step, rumba, cha-cha, and tango quite well, and my teacher's wife praised my quick learning. We also became closer.
More and more people were learning to dance, sometimes as many as twenty or thirty couples in one evening. I simply became Sister Zheng's teaching assistant, specifically guiding the beginners. I noticed a strange phenomenon: the older students had relatively fixed and close dance partners, rarely changing partners except for occasional occasional substitutions. I asked Sister Zheng about it, but she just smiled and didn't answer.
Days passed like this until one night, Sister Zheng suddenly missed class, and no one answered her phone. She missed two nights in a row. What had happened? She's not the type to give up easily, which is really worrying. The trainees were quite dissatisfied, so I had to act as the firefighter. On the third night, Sister Zheng came, but she seemed a bit dull and silent, only saying a few words besides her teaching. We finished at 9:30, and as I helped pack up the equipment, I suddenly heard Sister Zheng say, "Let's find a place nearby for a late-night snack. I want to drink!" I knew she was upset, and if she didn't vent, her mood would only worsen. A little drink might help. I left the speakers and other equipment at the park security office (at the cost of a pack of cigarettes) and took her to the nearby Jiujie Street.
Jiujie Street is located in the nearby Nantou Ancient City. Under the night sky, Jiujie Street was bustling with all sorts of people, and the street vendors filled the area, making it exceptionally lively. We found a barbecue stall near the government office, ordered a few bottles of beer and a bunch of barbecue skewers, and started drinking. Sister Zheng was still not very talkative, just clinking glasses with me while eating. After a few rounds, she had downed two bottles. I realized she would definitely get drunk if she kept going, so I took her glass away. "What are you doing? I want to drink!" She simply grabbed the bottle and started chugging. "Fine, I'll keep you company, let's get drunk together!" I also tossed aside my glass, grabbed the bottle, and started chugging. From Sister Zheng's intermittent sobs, I finally understood what had happened. It turned out that her husband, a designer, had gotten involved with a young girl who had just joined the company, and recently it had escalated to the point where he wasn't
coming home at night and openly living together. The reason she hadn't come in for the past two days was because the two of them had a falling out. After settling the bill around eleven o'clock, Sister Zheng was flushed red from drinking, and I was swaying as well. "I'll take you home!" "Home? Your rented apartment? Or the kindergarten dormitory? I don't have a home, I'm not going back!" "Okay, I'll walk with you." I helped Sister Zheng up, and we strolled along the dimly lit streets, from the ancient streets, the Guandi Temple, all the way to the Nanxin Overpass. We rarely spoke, standing on the overpass, watching the cars come and go, when suddenly a feeling of loneliness welled up in my heart. I turned to look at Sister Zheng; she was just staring blankly at the traffic below the bridge, tears already streaming down her face. My heart was breaking. I desperately wanted her to scream or cry out loud; that would make her feel better. But she didn't. She just stood there silently, tears streaming down her beautiful yet haggard face.
"It's past midnight. Let's go! I'll take you back to kindergarten," I said easily, taking her hand. "I can't go back!" Sister Zheng shook her head, saying nothing more. "Then let's not go back. I'll get you a room." I pulled her hand and we walked away. She didn't struggle, obediently following me. The two of us stumbled and swayed as we left the overpass, heading towards the Zhongnanhaibin Hotel on nearby Nanxin Road.
