Since I told my wife I wanted to switch gyms, I haven't been to that gym or seen Xiao Ma there. I've tried to persuade her several times to treat gym workouts as entertainment and only go occasionally. To be honest, no matter what my wife looks like, she'll always be the most beautiful in my heart. I've told her more than once that body image isn't something to worry about too much. We're not celebrities who rely on our looks; there's no need to take our figures so seriously. But my wife is a very determined person; once she decides to lose weight, she'll definitely stick to it.
My wife trained on her own for about a month, and one day I was feeling really bored, so I went to the gym with her again. When we got there and I didn't see Xiao Ma, I felt much more relieved. We separated and trained separately. Before, my wife only did cycling and yoga, but now she can do many of the machines. I ran for a while and then stopped to rest. I saw my wife doing sit-ups on one of the machines; she was having a lot of trouble with the crunches and leg raises. Then a trainer came over and lifted her waist to help her complete the movement. Seeing my wife so close to another man for the first time made me very uncomfortable. I even wanted to rush over and warn the man not to touch her. But then I thought, it wouldn't hurt to get some guidance from the trainer at the gym. That day when we got home, I seriously discussed the personal training with my wife. I told her I couldn't accept her having physical contact with other men, even if they were in a platonic relationship. My wife thought my thinking was unreasonable and said I was making a mountain out of a molehill. We had a cold war for several days because of this.
One evening, a friend of mine had a birthday party, and I approached my wife to ask if she wanted to go. She said she was going to the gym and didn't want to eat too much oily food, so I went by myself. But coincidentally, just as we were finishing dinner, I overheard laughter coming from another private room that sounded like my wife. I peeked through the half-open door and clearly saw my wife leaning against a strange man. The man looked familiar; upon closer inspection, I realized it was the gym's personal trainer. I was stunned; I couldn't believe my eyes. Before I left, she told me to drink less and come home early. She actually went out with another man. So, I lied and said I had something to do and went home early.
I was furious and smoked one cigarette after another in the living room. I treat her like my precious darling and have never lost my temper with her. She's ungrateful; it's just too much. Around ten o'clock, my wife came home. She reeked of alcohol, her face flushed. Seeing me, she was terrified and stammered that she had been drinking with a classmate she hadn't seen in a long time. When I didn't speak, she panicked even more, and knelt down in front of me with a thud, confessing everything. She thought I would be out drinking late and that I always drank a lot and would fall asleep almost immediately after getting home.
My wife told me about those private tutors who seduced and tempted her. When I thought about what happened in Xiao Ma's group, it felt like a bolt from the blue. I couldn't accept this reality and hit her. That night, she packed her bags and went back to her parents' house. Now I'm really confused; I don't understand why my wife has fallen so low.
