Qiu Yan repeatedly persuades Qian Jun to join the revolutionary ranks, break free from the feudal shackles binding him, resist the Qing Dynasty, and restore the Central Plains. Furthermore, when they reached the point of discussing marriage, Qiu Yan insisted on monogamy, demanding that he divorce his first wife. However, the weakness and compromising nature of feudal intellectuals deeply ingrained in Qian Jun's heart caused him immense mental and physical torment. On one hand, there was pressure from his family and his virtuous wife, as well as the enormous risks of joining the revolution. On the other hand, there was his lover with whom he shared common interests, and the constant indoctrination of revolutionary ideals. Finally, in Qian Jun's indecisiveness, his frequent relationship with Qiu Yan was exposed. Not only was Qiu Yan arrested , tortured, and sacrificed, but his family was also implicated, falsely accused of colluding with bandits, leading to the shattering of his family and the humiliating deaths of his family members. Qian Jun, who narrowly escaped, was reborn from the ashes amidst endless suffering, self-blame, and regret. Upon hearing the call of the Xinhai Revolution , he resolutely joined it, becoming a staunch revolutionary fighter. This novel is very popular and enjoys high recognition both domestically and internationally. Lin Yiteng used many connections to obtain the film and television adaptation rights to this novel. Author Li Chun made only one request: the film must be adapted faithfully to the original work and also screened in Hong Kong. After Lin Yiteng acquired the film adaptation rights, the script was completed by Lin Zile's mother, Wu Qiulan, a former actress . The male and female leads are arrested, and Qian Jun's family is accused of colluding with bandits, their property is confiscated, and family members are arrested. Director Xie Qin suggested focusing on filming the torture of the female lead and her family. The aim is to portray the increasingly ruthless and brutal side of feudal forces, unwilling to relinquish their place in history. The original novel also provides a detailed description of this aspect, showcasing the female lead's unwavering revolutionary will and indomitable spirit when facing torture. And the crucial role played by the character's family being humiliated, leading them to completely abandon their illusions about the protagonist and transform into a staunch revolutionary fighter. Lin Yiteng strongly agreed with this point, but during filming, there were quite a few nude scenes, which made him feel very awkward. After all, the actresses were his wife and daughters.
