[Wuxia] Long Hui's Male Concubine (Complete) - 28

Chapter Nineteen:

The roar of cannons echoed across the city of Su Ming, the sounds of battle deafening. Countless rockets hurtled towards the city, the arrows forged from the firestone of the vast ocean causing the fire on the city walls to escalate uncontrollably.

"What's happening!"

The attack on the city walls and the spread of fire alarmed the two commanders inside the headquarters. Qiu Baifei and Zhang Huanyu rushed to the city walls, only to be met with a scene of carnage.

Seeing the fire growing ever larger, Qiu Baifei flew into a rage, grabbing a soldier and shouting, "Hurry up and bring water carts to put out the fire!"

The soldier, his hair singed and trembling, said, "Commander... this fire can't be extinguished, and the more you pour water, the stronger it gets!"

Qiu Baifei was taken aback. Suddenly, a personal guard shouted a warning, and in a flash, the soldier was pierced through the throat by a cold arrow.

Then a barrage of arrows rained down, the sky seemed to press down on them. The personal guards hurriedly used their sabers to deflect the arrows, shielding the two commanders with their bodies, and shouted, "Commanders, let's go! We can't stay here any longer!"

Zhang Huanyu gritted his teeth and said, "Brother Qiu, we can't stay on the city wall any longer. Let's go down quickly."

Qiu Baifei agreed and, under the cover of his personal guards, retreated from the city wall.

"Brother Zhang, the city walls are a sea of fire. It seems the city gates can't hold out,"

Qiu Baifei said. "Why don't we abandon the city gates, have the soldiers withdraw, and then concentrate our forces to fight the rebels inside the city!"

Zhang Huanyu nodded and said, "That's the only way. There are hundreds of thousands of troops in Suming City. I don't believe these rebels can turn the world upside down!"

After saying that, he summoned his troops to prepare for a bloody street battle with the Longlin Army. The two returned to the central camp command tent and issued military orders. Each camp was ready to be dispatched, but the northern camp had not responded for a long time. Just as they were getting impatient, they heard shouts coming from the north.

Zhang Huanyu was taken aback, frowning as he pondered, "The Northern Camp seems to be the encampment of the beast cavalry. Why is there such a commotion? Could it have been attacked as well?"

Qiu Baifei hurriedly sent men to investigate, only to receive news that the beasts of the Northern Camp were out of control, rampaging through the camp and injuring countless people. The giant elephants, in particular, were extremely frenzied, constantly running around the camp like a massive mountain of flesh, trampling soldiers and generals.

Those who stood in their way were utterly defeated.

Zhang Huanyu slammed his fist on the table and roared, "Nonsense! These beasts have been tamed using secret methods and are utterly loyal to their master. How could they possibly be in a riot! You scoundrel, how dare you spout such nonsense! Believe me, I'll chop off your head!"

The soldiers trembled slightly. Just then, a series of commotions and violent tremors came from outside the camp gate.

Qiu Baifei frowned and said, "Brother Zhang, something's happened outside!"

Zhang Huanyu immediately went out of the command tent to check. He saw soldiers from all sides bustling about, on high alert, ready to defend against the enemy.

"My lords, the wild beasts from the Northern Camp are charging towards the Central Camp!"

a personal guard ran over to report.

Zhang Huanyu gathered his strength and leaped to a high platform to observe. Sure enough, he saw over a hundred tigers and cheetahs charging towards them, followed by more than ten giant elephants. Clearly, they had been driven there by the elephants.

Even a fool could see that these beasts were up to no good. Zhang Huanyu immediately ordered, "All troops, defend against the enemy! Do not let these beasts approach the camp!"

Soldiers from both battalions, armed with muskets and crossbows, climbed onto the beacon towers and fired at the beasts. Fireballs and arrows rained down, and no matter how ferocious the tigers and cheetahs were, they fell to the ground under the dense barrage of fire. However, the giant elephants, with their thick hides and tough flesh, withstood the fireballs and arrows, only suffering minor injuries, and soon crossed the perimeter.

Just as half of the giant elephants were dead or wounded, a demonic aura surged forth. The remaining elephants, instead of retreating, became even more frenzied, charging recklessly towards the gate.

Zhang Huanyu cursed, "So it was these demons who did this!"

Qiu Baifei said, "The evil demons are skilled at enslaving animals. That snake demon was just like that, controlling snakes and insects at will. It seems that the madness of these beasts is also related to the demons."

Zhang Huanyu nodded and said, "Brother Qiu is right. Now, the only way is to kill these beasts first, lest they disrupt our army's formation!"

Qiu Baifei immediately ordered his men to unleash the Heaven-Shaking Crossbow. With a few whooshes, the crossbows forcefully pierced through the giant elephants. With a few thuds, the elephants fell to the ground, their blood flowing into the yellow sand.

"What powerful crossbow bolts! Watch my skills!"

A majestic figure suddenly appeared from the elephant herd—it was Elder Bai Zhan of the Giant Elephant Clan. With a flick of his arm, he unleashed over ten iron chains as thick as an arm, each end fitted with a hook, which plunged into the necks of the giant elephants.

Bai Zhan channeled his demonic power, his demonic energy flowing through the chains into the elephants' bodies, causing them to undergo a transformation. Scales sprouted from their skin, and the steel rods fired from the Heaven-Shaking Crossbow could only penetrate halfway, merely piercing the elephants' bodies, not killing them.

With a deafening roar, the giant elephants burst through the gate and stormed into the central army camp. Their massive hooves trampled, turning many soldiers into mud beneath their feet or sweeping them away with their trunks.

Qiu Baifei was no pushover either. He immediately took action, ordering light cavalry to attack from the flanks, using their rapid mobility to approach the giant elephants, pour oil on them, and then set them ablaze. With mournful

cries, ninety percent of the giant elephants that had stormed into the camp were quickly annihilated, and the air was filled with the stench of burning flesh.

Seeing that he couldn't gain the upper hand, Bai Zhan swung his iron chains, and the giant elephants he controlled turned and retreated. Although only five elephants remained, Bai Zhan had other plans: "Damn it, if I can't break into your central camp, I'll trample your other outlying camps!"

With that thought, Bai Zhan steered the elephants westward. Driven by his demonic power, the elephants' speed increased, and they quickly charged into the western camp.

The western camp was mainly composed of heavily armored cavalry, and their ability to fight in a panic was somewhat lacking. Their mobility was also cumbersome. In a single exchange, the elephants charged into their ranks, and their morale was thrown into chaos.

After traversing most of the western camp, Bai Zhan was driven back by artillery fire. After several rounds of bombardment, only one elephant remained under his control. Bai Zhan was forced to dodge to the side, and he landed right near the shrine of Bo Xun.

Bai Zhan spotted Bo Xun's body at a glance, chuckled, and thought to himself, "Luckily, I found this stinking monk's remains; all my repeated charges weren't in vain!" He

slammed down with his palm, channeling demonic energy into the elephant's body. The giant elephant roared, half its body rising, and it delivered a powerful kick to Bo Xun's body.

With the aid of Bai Zhan's demonic energy, the giant elephant's divine strength became even more astonishing. With one stomp, the entire mourning hall instantly shattered, and the spot where the body lay became a large crater.

Bai Zhan couldn't help but feel extremely smug: "Stupid monk, I'll make sure you don't even have bones left after you die!"

After doing all this, the giant elephant, unable to withstand the repeated surges of demonic energy, broke its bones and died with a groan.

Having abandoned his elephant-riding skills and switched to infantry combat, his moves were unparalleled in their ferocity. Even unarmed, he displayed divine might against numerous enemies, deterring them from approaching. Just as he was dominating the battlefield, the western camp was attacked again. A troop of infantry stormed in. Due to the elephant ravages, the western camp's heavy cavalry was unable to mount an effective defense. The soldiers were forced to fight hastily, without armor, grabbing whatever weapons they could find and rushing onto the battlefield.

In contrast, the raiding Dragonscale Army was a lightly armored axemen. Their weapons were thick, their armor protected vitals, and their movements were well-organized. For every enemy killed, another would provide cover. The difference in strength between the two was immediately apparent.

Most chillingly, a white-browed bear charged into the battlefield, its paws lashing out, killing or wounding the enemy. On the bear's back rod a burly man with immense strength, wielding a powerful broadsword. Nearby soldiers were either killed by the bear's paws or cleaved by its axe.

Bai Zhan snorted, "Yue Biao, you damn black bastard, all you do is steal my credit!"

After Yue Biao cut down several Western Region soldiers, he laughed and said, "You big dummy, if I hadn't arrived quickly, you'd be a sausage made from elephant trunks sooner or later!" Bai Zhan

was furious. He unleashed his demonic power, his palms striking like thunder, and slapped several more Western Region barbarians to death. He glanced at Yue Biao defiantly, as if to say, "Even if I were fighting one-on-one, I wouldn't be afraid of these bastards. Killing them seven times in and out is no problem at all!"

Just as Bai Zhan

was displaying his prowess, another domineering demonic aura surged in the distance, accompanied by a deafening lion's roar. Bai Zhan's face stiffened, and he cursed, "The stinking lion has come too! This is outrageous!" Knowing that Zhi Guan had intervened in the battle, Bai Zhan was even more unwilling to be outdone by his formidable enemy. He rushed to a large tree, his spirits high, and angrily uprooted a willow branch, using the trunk as a spear to sweep across

the battlefield. Zhi Guan, not wanting Bai Zhan to be the only one to shine, braced himself, lowered his stance, dug his fingers into the ground, and with a roar, rose up, his arms ripping over large chunks of earth, sending his soldiers tumbling and staggering in disarray.

Seeing this, Yue Biao wielded his battle axe, attacking with both hands, slaughtering the western camp's generals until blood flowed like a river, their cries of agony echoing. Moreover, the White-browed Bear joined the battle, its bravery and strength no less than that of the two demons.

Some of the best soldiers held off the onslaught, forming a heavy cavalry formation. However, when faced with Yue Biao's battle axe, men and armor were cleaved in two, and the blows from his bear paws left his warhorses with broken bones and tendons.

Both the human and the beast were incredibly brave, and the fiercer the battle, the more spirited they became, growing ever more courageous with each battle.

As the fire spread, the gates of Su Ming City had already been breached. The Dragonscale Army split into several routes, each attacking a separate camp. Ling Xiao personally led his elite troops straight towards the eastern camp.

Besides Ling Xiao, this force was aided by Xian Huo and Teng Ji. Xian Huo secretly gave the order: Scorpion Clan experts infiltrated underground, dug into the camp, and then emerged, their poisonous hooks and barbs swiftly killing the front-line guards. They then opened the gates, welcoming the main army into the camp.

The Southern Camp, garrisoned with 50,000 Western Region soldiers, remained calm under attack, organizing an effective defensive line to repel the Dragonscale Army. Seeing this, Ling Xiao immediately summoned Teng Ji: "Elder Teng, thank you for your trouble!"

Teng Ji smiled sweetly, interlocked her thumb and forefinger, and whistled. Thousands upon thousands of venomous snakes slithered into the camp, and within moments, over a hundred soldiers perished from their fangs.

The Western Region army, however, remained composed. After suffering two defeats, they reacted immediately. The camp commander ordered a squad of soldiers to hold torches and block the perimeter, using the torches to burn the venomous snakes on the ground.

The snakes, fearing fire, were quickly driven back. Both the scorpion tails and fangs only caught the enemy off guard; by the time the Western Region soldiers recovered, their effectiveness was greatly diminished.

Ling Xiao drew his military saber and charged into the enemy ranks, unleashing bursts of lightning and flames that carved a bloody path and boosted his own morale. The two elite forces clashed fiercely without any fancy moves, the battle raging fiercely. During the battle, more than ten strange figures emerged from the Dragonscale Army, taking advantage of the fighting to infiltrate the depths of the eastern camp. These dozen or so people were led by the three demon generals, Mo Yun, Xie Ao, and Lang Haotian. Their mission was to quickly find and kill the enemy's eagles, destroy Su Ming's air force, and make room for the Proud Bird Clan.

Lang Haotian, with his keen sense of smell, wrinkled his nose as he lay on the ground and pointed the way: "Those flies are ahead."

Led by Lang Haotian, the demons headed straight for their destination. Sure enough, at the border between the southern and western camps, they saw many iron cages, each containing an eagle. There were more than a thousand cages, guarded by soldiers.

Upon seeing the demons, the guards immediately went on alert, drawing their weapons and surrounding Mo Yun and the others.

Mo Yun sneered, his ten fingers flicking like strings, sending crystalline spider silk slicing through the air, sharp and poisonous. Anyone touched by it suffered broken limbs and profuse bleeding. Wolf Howler, wielding the Bone Forging Scripture, unleashed a powerful Wolf Iron Fist, its force penetrating the body, rupturing internal organs in those struck.

Scorpion Tortoise ignited fire with a flick of its finger, incinerating the enemy soldiers to ashes.

The three demons displayed their ferocity, and their demon soldiers showed no mercy, employing their unique techniques—forceful attacks, sneak attacks, assassinations, and poisoning—their methods perfectly coordinated, clearing the cages of soldiers in the blink of an eye. With

the obstacles removed, Mo Yun used a secret demonic technique, flicking his fingers to spit out silk, covering over a thousand iron cages with white spider silk, the silk containing deadly poison; even a hawk that touched it would die instantly.

The scorpion ignited the fire in the ancient wood again and threw it at the spider silk. The toxins hidden in the silk were of the wood element, and as the saying goes, wood fuels fire. With a whoosh, a bright green demonic flame suddenly ignited, instantly turning the eagles that hadn't been poisoned into charred remains.

"Alright, the flies are cleared out. Lu Fei and the others can make their move now!"

Wolf Howler pulled out a firework bomb and threw it into the sky. With a pop, a firework bloomed in the clouds. Seeing that the time was ripe, the proud birds waiting outside the city transformed into their demonic forms, their four fleshy wings flapping powerfully as they soared towards Su Ming. Leading the arrogant birds was the demon general Lu Fei. Without the aerial threat of the eagles, they were unrestrained, flying into Su Ming's camp and unleashing a barrage of aerial attacks. Explosions resounded continuously, and the entire Su Ming camp was engulfed in flames and smoke.

The 5,000 troops attacking the eastern camp were led by Bai Lingyu. She was a woman of unparalleled strength, single-handedly taking on a thousand men. Her Qilin spear swept and thrust, her valiant power forcefully breaching the eastern camp gate. Behind her, the Dragon Scale Army cavalry charged in, their iron hooves trampling, their swords flashing, causing the 60,000 defending troops to rout.

In battle, the first attack is crucial, the second weakens, and the third exhausts the strength. Victory isn't solely determined by numerical superiority, especially in close combat. If the enemy's morale overwhelms your own, it often signals the beginning of defeat. Once the vanguard falls, the soldiers in the rear mistakenly believe the enemy outnumbers them several times over. Coupled with the chaos of battle, the shadow of defeat spreads like a plague, quickly engulfing the entire army. Many soldiers in the rear will abandon their weapons and flee.

Now, Bai Lingyu's nighttime raid, coupled with the ferocity and speed of her cavalry, caught the enemy commanders completely off guard, resulting in a crushing defeat. Bai Lingyu swiftly breached the first line of defense in the eastern camp, shocking the enemy's morale. Furthermore, in the darkness, the enemy generals couldn't clearly see the number of Dragonscale troops, mistaking them for hundreds of thousands, and immediately considered retreating. With

such a commander, how could the soldiers possibly survive, allowing a mere five thousand Dragonscale cavalry to rampage through their camp, burning, killing, and looting?

Bai Lingyu led her troops into the eastern camp with unparalleled ferocity. With the aerial support of the Aoniao tribe, they outnumbered the enemy and routed the entire 60,000-strong army, leaving the camp in ruins.

After disrupting the enemy camp, Bai Lingyu didn't linger. She shouted, "Follow me to attack the central camp! Capture Qiu Baifei alive and take Zhang Huanyu prisoner!"

Compared to the outer camp, the central camp was far stronger. The allied forces from the Western Regions and Jiangnan numbered 100,000, with over a thousand camps, countless arrow towers and artillery emplacements, and traps like knife pits and rolling stones. Each sentry post cooperated seamlessly, forming an impenetrable defense.

When they were still a hundred paces from the central camp, Bai Lingyu ordered her entire army to halt. She then raised a flag to the sky, and Lu Fei, understanding the signal, commanded the Aoniao demons to fly towards the central camp. A barrage of aerial attacks rained down, creating a spectacular display of firework and smoke, a decisive victory that intimidated the enemy.

"Huang Kui, blow up those arrow towers and cannons!"

Just as Bai Lingyu ordered Lu Fei to launch an air attack, a powerful male voice suddenly rang out beside her. Bai Lingyu turned her head and was immediately overjoyed. She saw a handsome young man, dashing and extraordinary, wearing black armor and riding a fine horse. His speech exuded wisdom and an air of confidence, as if he had the world at his fingertips. This was none other than her ideal man—Long Hui.

Long Hui then led five thousand elite troops in a frontal assault on Su Mingzhong's camp. Under his orders, his soldiers formed ranks and performed their duties.

The first to go out was a hundred demon soldiers led by Huang Kui. These demon soldiers were all unicorn giants. They were incredibly strong and tall, each wielding a thunderbolt crossbow. These huge and cumbersome crossbows were like ordinary crossbow bolts in their hands. With a wave of Huang Kui's hand, the unicorn giants behind him immediately set up their crossbows, aimed at the arrow towers and cannons around the gate, and then fired simultaneously, destroying all the defensive forces near the gate.

Long Hui wasn't in a hurry to attack. He ordered his army to advance another hundred paces, and then the unicorn giant fired another round of crossbow bolts. The giant bolts, with a range and power comparable to cannons, swept away the enemy soldiers in front of them.

After clearing a space, Long Hui gestured to Bai Lingyu, who smiled knowingly. This was the perfect time for a cavalry charge, and she immediately led her troops to pursue them.

With the outer defenses gone, the light cavalry's agility and mobility plunged the enemy's central camp into a fierce battle. Bai Lingyu, however, thrived, growing more adept with each passing moment. His thousand cavalrymen swept through the enemy lines with unparalleled speed, first charging east, then turning west. His five thousand cavalrymen were like a nimble, sharp blade, while the central camp's hundred thousand troops were like a fat ox, their massive size constantly being sliced open and dismembered.

Qiu Baifei, filled with shock and rage, hastily summoned the Divine Fire Battalion to counterattack. However, the cavalry moved like the wind, and with the cover of darkness, the Divine Fire Battalion's effectiveness was less than half its usual strength. Further afield, Huang Kui led a group of unicorn giants. These enormous creatures used crossbows as if they were bolts, giving them a clear advantage in range over the Divine Fire Battalion. What troubled Qiu Baifei most was that these unicorn giants possessed exceptional eyesight, natural night vision, making the Divine Fire Battalion no match for them.

Qiu Baifei and Zhang Huanyu were disoriented by the crossbow fire, while the Longlin Army seized the opportunity to launch a general offensive. Long Hui led 5,000 infantry and cavalry to press the central route, Bai Lingyu's cavalry flanked the east, Ling Xiao attacked the south, and Yue Biao launched a strong assault on the west. As for the northern camp, it had already been reduced to ruins by the Hundred Battles. Although Qiu Baifei and Zhang Huanyu commanded an army of 100,000, even though the enemy's forces were less than half their own, the tide had turned, and their army collapsed like a house of cards.

Long Hui leaped into the air, moving swiftly and rapidly, displaying his ultimate weapon technique. He wielded his eighteen-foot steel spear, thrusting left and right, killing countless enemies. Then, he transformed his spear into a spear-and-halberd formation, clearing a path with his spear and halberd flying wildly like a spinning windmill, slaying enemy soldiers. He then moved with agility, attacking those who closed in, and then slashing with his spear with unparalleled dominance. Within a few feet, there were no enemy soldiers left. It was a true display of power, with spears and halberds clearing the way, swords and sabers assisting, and the dragon displaying its might.

Long Hui's battle blood boiled, his inner energy circulated, and the highest realm of all weapons—the Myriad Worlds Soldier Soul—was instantly mastered. The battlefield, a forest of swords and spears, became his personal arena. Thousands of soldiers, seemingly under a mysterious spell, broke free from their masters' grasp and rushed towards Long Hui. Then, with a thought, Long Hui's weapons turned against him, and the enemy fell in blood.

"My two commanders, I, Long Hui, have arrived!"

Long Hui laughed heartily, his weapon aimed directly at Qiu and Zhang.

The two men were immediately terrified, daring not to let Long Hui get close. They frantically ordered their soldiers to block him, but mortals could not withstand the might of a dragon.

Long Hui swept through the enemy lines with unstoppable force, his body like a dragon, lightning-fast approaching the enemy commanders. Zhang Huanyu, disregarding his dignity, spurred his horse and fled. Qiu Baifei, under the cover of his personal guards, fought and retreated, but Long Hui's multiple armies relentlessly advanced towards the center, like a net, gradually restricting the two commanders' escape routes.

Seeing their army routed and their retreat dwindling, Zhang Huanyu and Qiu Baifei felt a sense of powerlessness and couldn't help but sigh, "Our lives are over!" Just then, chaos erupted on the eastern flank under Bai Lingyu's command. A thunderous roar rang out, and the cavalry immediately stumbled.

It was the Nine-Herbs charging into the battle. With a sudden burst of sound, it unleashed a devastating sonic attack, killing both friend and foe alike. Then, it stomped its limbs on the ground,

unleashing a torrent of fiery energy that burned everything in its path. Freed from the constraints of the mortal realm, the Nine-Herbs went berserk, charging into Su Ming City to unleash its savagery. Any living creature was indiscriminately slaughtered, either killed by its supernatural abilities or by its claws.

This unexpected turn of events was a major blow to Bai Lingyu. The beast's appearance alone had killed over a hundred Dragonscale Army cavalrymen, and its presence had terrified their horses, effectively halting the cavalry charge. The enemy also fared poorly; the Nine-Herbs killed indiscriminately, and outnumbering the Dragonscale Army, they suffered even greater losses.

Although Zhang Huanyu and Qiu Baifei were unaware of the specifics of the situation in the east, their keen eyes detected the change and recognized it as a golden opportunity to escape. They led their remaining troops eastward in a breakout attempt.

Seeing the Nine-Faced Beast's ferocity, Bai Lingyu, no fool, shouted, "All troops, abandon your horses and run into the enemy ranks!"

The soldiers jumped off their horses and charged into the enemy ranks. The enemy soldiers, currently under attack from the Nine-Faced Beast, had no time to attend to the Dragon Scale Army. The Dragon Scale Army soldiers, agile and nimble, weaved through the crowd, using the enemy as human shields to avenge the Nine-Faced Beast and preserve themselves.

Zhang Huanyu and Qiu Baifei arrived at this moment. Seeing the Nine-Faced Beast in a frenzy, they were startled. The Nine-Faced Beast, sensing their approach, roared and charged at its target.

Qiu and Zhang were terrified and immediately dodged, avoiding the Nine-Faced Beast's attack, but their personal guards suffered heavy casualties.

First the Dragonscale Army attacked the city, and now the Nine-Unlikes has gone berserk. The two dared not linger and fled, each going in a different direction in their panic.

The Nine-Unlikes shook its head, glancing at the two men before finally choosing to pursue Zhang Huanyu, who was fleeing directly into the city's residential area.

Bai Lingyu thought to himself, "Zhang deserves to die, but we can't let this beast harm the city's inhabitants!"

With that thought, he grabbed his gun and gave chase.

The Nine-Unlikes had already entered the residential area, leaping and bounding, running through the streets and jumping onto rooftops, constantly closing in on Zhang Huanyu.

Knowing death was imminent, Zhang Huanyu remained calm, searching for a way out. Suddenly, he saw an alleyway and, secretly pleased, immediately rushed inside.

The Nine-Unlikes howled and pursued relentlessly, following Zhang Huanyu into the alley. However, the alley was narrow, its massive body making things difficult. Furthermore, Zhang Huanyu's deliberate knocking over of debris during his escape greatly slowed the Nine-Unlikes.

Zhang Huanyu turned and darted around a corner. The Nine-Faced Beast gave chase, but the corner was only wide enough for one person to pass through, and its massive body was immediately trapped.

Seeing his plan succeed, Zhang Huanyu chuckled. He resorted to underhanded tactics, leaping into a house and using the complex, ever-changing terrain to shake off the beast.

Trapped and unable to move, the Nine-Faced Beast grew increasingly ferocious. With a roar, it forcefully unleashed its supernatural power, shattering the corner. It imitated Zhang Huanyu, rushing into the house, but instead of scaling walls, it smashed through them, causing the residents inside to scream in terror.

The screams further enraged the beast. The Nine-Faced Beast opened its blood-red maw and began to bite anyone in sight, slaughtering everyone in the house, leaving a river of blood and mountains of corpses.

This beast seemed addicted to killing. It didn't even pursue Zhang Huanyu, instead attacking people in the alley, smashing through walls, breaking into houses, and biting anyone it saw. A perfectly good alley was reduced to a mere shell of its inhabitants.

By the time Bai Lingyu arrived, it was too late; all he saw were corpses.

"Beast, I'll kill you!"

Bai Lingyu cried out in grief and rage, channeling the power of the Qilin into his spear. Like an arrow released from a bow, he thrust it fiercely at the Nine-Faced Beast.

The Nine-Faced Beast was thrown about by the spear, its massive body crashing down and shattering a courtyard wall.

The Qilin's power was immense; even though the Nine-Faced Beast was clad in thick armor, it was pierced, and blood flowed freely.

The stench of blood and the pain of the wounded fueled the Nine-Faced Beast's ferocity, its eyes gleaming with malevolence as it stared intently at Bai Lingyu.

Bai Lingyu raised her eyebrows and shouted, "You beast! Today, this princess will skin you alive and tear out your tendons to sacrifice to these innocent people!"

With that, she swung her spear to thrust, but the Nine-Faced Beast shrank back, its tail whipping out.

Bai Lingyu, fearless, met the attack with her spear. The force of the tail whip was comparable to that of a dragon; even with her divine strength, Bai Lingyu couldn't gain the upper hand and was instead forced back several steps.

The Nine-Faced Beast unleashed its special ability, stomping its limbs, causing the earth to churn and disrupting Bai Lingyu's footwork. Then, it unleashed a burst of fire, intending to burn its prey.

Bai Lingyu had seen its ability before and had a countermeasure. With a sway of her waist and a sinking of her hips, she used her spear to swirl around the ground, causing the airflow to reverse and disperse the surging fire.

Extinguishing the fire with the spinning spear, Bai Lingyu simultaneously parried and attacked, pressing the spear into an arc with her arm, then releasing the pressure and using the spear's resilience to spring up, flying above the Nine-Faced Beast.

From its vantage point high above, the white-feathered spear pointed downwards, poised to pierce the beast's head.

The Nine-Unlikes, no pushover either, opened its maw and roared, compressing the surrounding air into a ball, sending it hurtling towards the beast like a cannonball.

The pressure surge caused Bai Lingyu's spear stance to falter, her body shifting drastically. Taking advantage of this, the Nine-Faced Beast pounced, its jaws snapping shut, and Bai Lingyu was caught off guard,

her body caught in its jaws and bitten around the waist. Although the Nine-Faced Beast had its jaws on Bai Lingyu's waist, it couldn't penetrate; its sharp teeth felt like they were hitting a piece of soft, chewy taffy, offering no leverage.

It turned out that Bai Lingyu was wearing the Snow Shark Leather Armor, which even a dragon's teeth couldn't break through. No matter how hard the Nine-Faced Beast's jaws strained, it was futile.

Despite the armor, the Nine-Faced Beast's bite force was truly astonishing. Bai Lingyu was nearly suffocated by its bite; an ordinary person would have been either bitten to death or suffocated.

Bai Lingyu gathered his divine power and unleashed it, forcefully breaking free from the Nine-Faced Beast's sharp teeth. Then, his five fingers, infused with the power of the Qilin, gouged out the Nine-Faced Beast's right eye. These fingers, powerful enough to be

iron hooks, were precisely the weakest point on the beast, and Bai Lingyu plucked out its eyeball with a single blow, causing blood to gush out and a painful howl. The wounded Nine-Faced Beast became even more ferocious, unleashing its power incessantly, creating a storm of blood, fire, and lightning. Bai Lingyu dared not confront it head-on, only able to gather his Qilin divine power to protect himself, but even he was forced to retreat by the massive shockwave.

The Nine-Faced Beast roared to the sky, instantly unleashing crimson lightning, obscuring the moon, and shaking the earth. This power continued to spread, collapsing houses, spewing flames, killing and injuring countless people, turning the surrounding area into a living hell.

After venting its power, the Nine-Faced Beast slowly calmed down, its remaining eye fixed intently on Bai Lingyu, radiating a chilling light.

Bai Lingyu gritted his teeth, spear in hand, unleashing his full power, the Qilin Divine Power vowing to slay the monstrous beast that plagued the world.

Man and beast faced off, the atmosphere extremely tense, a great battle imminent.

Suddenly, auspicious light descended from the sky, dispelling the ominous clouds, a peaceful aura spreading down, enveloping both sides, purifying the bones scattered on the ground.

Strange phenomena occurred one after another, Bai Lingyu was somewhat astonished, but his vigilance remained undiminished, his energy flowing through his martial meridians, preparing to deal with the impending change.

"Until hell is empty, I vow not to become a Buddha. Only when all sentient beings are liberated will I attain Bodhi!"

A peaceful voice recited a compassionate vow, and in the distance, a magnificent light shone, illuminating the entire world. Through the haze, only a figure could be seen walking on dust.

Bai Lingyu focused his gaze and saw that it was a monk, his appearance like that of a celestial being, wearing a Vairocana crown and a kasaya, holding a staff in one hand and a lotus flower in the other, a vaguely familiar feeling. As

the monk stepped into existence, the ferocious flames of the Nine-Faced Beast weakened slightly.

The monk, his compassionate eyes surveying the devastation around him, couldn't help but lament, "In this war and chaos, what have the people done to deserve this?"

The Nine-Faced Beast roared, about to lunge to bite.

Bai Lingyu's expression changed drastically; she cried out, "Master, be careful!"

The monk smiled slightly, closed his eyes,

and chanted a sutra. Instantly, a vast expanse of Buddhist light shone forth, forcing the Nine-Faced Beast's sharp teeth to retreat, leaving it unable to penetrate any further. The monk gently extended his palm, reaching out to touch the Nine-Faced Beast. His warm and powerful palm radiated an indescribable holiness and compassion. The

Nine-Faced Beast paused, its ferocious nature vanishing, yet the monk's hand still approached. The palm pressed against the Nine-Faced Beast's injured eye, and immediately, a holy light bloomed, healing bones and skin; the gouged-out eyeball miraculously grew back.

Witnessing such a miracle, Bai Lingyu was stunned. The monk continued, "Nine-Unlikes, since you know pain, what about others? Do they feel pain? Do they feel suffering?"

Each word carried Buddhist light and energy, seeping into the Nine-Unlikes' soul, helping it to develop wisdom and awaken its consciousness.

The feelings of the dying and wounded surged into the Nine-Unlikes' spirit. Its massive body trembled continuously, uttering mournful cries. Karma weighed heavily upon it, retribution was being borne. The Nine-Unlikes was immersed in the experience, witnessing countless lifetimes of suffering and the anguish of all beings in the six realms. With each increase in karmic retribution, the Nine-Unlikes' intelligence grew, and it understood the monk's universal aspirations more deeply.

The previously ferocious beast was now cleansed of its malevolence, its eyes losing their ferocity, and even shedding two clear tears, leaving Bai Lingyu speechless.

The Nine-Faced Beast slowly lowered its body, whimpering softly, its tone tinged with sorrow, as if repenting for its sins.

The monk smiled kindly, gently stroking its head, and said, "My dear child, the sins I committed in the past far surpass yours, but the boundless power of Buddhism has never abandoned me, which is why I am who I am today. If you are willing, the other shore is just around the corner."

The Nine-Faced Beast raised its head, gazing at the monk with longing, as if asking a question.

The monk said, "Nine-Faced Beast, are you willing to take refuge in Buddhism and join me in saving all sentient beings?"

The Nine-Faced Beast actually nodded, indicating its agreement.

The monk laughed, "Wonderful! The you of the past is gone. I will bestow upon you the Dharma name Di Ting (谛听), from now on, listen to the suffering of all beings, and follow me to cross this boundless hell!"

Bai Lingyu composed himself and asked, "Master, you are compassionate and save us from suffering. I admire you. However, I feel that you look somewhat familiar. May I ask your Dharma name?"

The monk looked at Bai Lingyu and smiled, "My name is Dizang (地藏). The familiarity you speak of is probably the karmic result of my past actions."

Bai Lingyu became increasingly confused.

Dizang calmly said, "You, the transgressing monk, are my former demonic image!"

Bai Lingyu was shocked, but felt no hostility; his eyes were filled with astonishment.

Ksitigarbha smiled and said, "The Heavenly Buddha, even on his deathbed, did not forget the sinful monk; he sacrificed himself in the sea of suffering to save the sinful monk; he pardoned sins in the Crystal Pavilion solely to deliver the sinful monk; he protected the

sinful monk in the desolate wilderness, also to deliver the sinful monk. From beginning to end, the Dharma has never abandoned me. If I do not fully understand these profound kindnesses and compassions, how can I face the world?" Bai Lingyu bit her lip and asked, "Master Ksitigarbha, what are your plans for the future?"

Ksitigarbha nodded and smiled, reciting, "Until hell is empty, I vow not to become a Buddha.

Only when all sentient beings are delivered will I attain Bodhi!" These few words expressed his thoughts, both a great vow of compassion and a decision to repay the Buddha with gratitude. Ksitigarbha turned and stepped forward, each step creating a lotus flower, reciting the wordless sutra. A gentle power of vow spread throughout the city, guiding the souls of fallen soldiers and innocent civilians to slowly drift towards Fengdu, re-entering the cycle of reincarnation.

Just then, Di Ting roared towards the dark corner, seemingly having discovered something.

Dizang sighed, "Since they are already dead, let them rest in peace!"

Without any visible movement, his monk's robe flicked, and a radiant light enveloped the dark corner, instantly revealing ghostly figures, one black and one white—the Black and White Impermanence of the Fiend Realm.

Bai Lingyu's brow furrowed in anger, and he raised his spear, shouting, "Outrageous! You two fiends have come to collect Yin soldiers again! You deserve to die!"

The Black and White Impermanence focused their attention, gathering their energy to protect themselves, assuming a fighting stance. A fierce battle was about to erupt.

At that moment, Dizang flicked his finger, a swastika symbol appearing before the three, a gentle force pushing Bai Lingyu aside, while a powerful force sent the Black and White Impermanence tumbling to the ground.

Ksitigarbha said, "Two benefactors, forging Yin soldiers is a grave violation of the laws of Heaven. I hope you two can repent soon and refrain from such wicked deeds!"

Bai Lingyu sighed inwardly, "It seems this monk has truly changed. If it were the former wicked monk, he would have simply cleaved them in two with a single strike. These two evil spirits would be dead."

Having escaped death, Black and White Impermanence dared not continue to fish in troubled waters, and fled in a gust of Yin wind.

The strange phenomenon attracted Long Hui, who, upon arrival, witnessed Ksitigarbha's Dharma form. His keen innate intuition allowed him to discern the cause and effect behind Ksitigarbha's actions.

"Are you the wicked monk?"

Long Hui asked.

Ksitigarbha closed his eyes and said, "The wicked monk of the past, Ksitigarbha of today."

Long Hui said sternly, "Now that you have condensed a new Dharma form, are you prepared to bear the consequences of your past sins?"

Ksitigarbha said, "I have committed my sins, and I am willing to bear them. Benefactors, please proceed!"

Having said this, he dispersed the Buddha's light and spread his hands.

Di Ting, sensing its master's intention, immediately stood protectively in front of Di Zang, roaring at Long Hui and issuing repeated warnings.

Di Zang shouted, "Di Ting, step back! As the saying goes, cause and effect are a cycle, and retribution is inevitable. Since I committed evil deeds in the past, I should bear the bitter consequences today!"

Hearing Di Zang's reprimand, Di Ting dared not disobey and obediently retreated to the side.

Di Zang, with a calm expression, sat cross-legged and presented his vital point to Long Hui.

Long Hui gathered his energy in his palm, intending to avenge the blood feud with Ku Hai. Just as he raised his hand, a conversation with Yu Xiuting flashed through his mind, and he couldn't help but sigh, "Ku Hai would rather be plunged into the sea of suffering than fail to guide the lost. This person's regaining of clarity is also thanks to Ku Hai. If I were to strike him down, wouldn't I be destroying all of Ku Hai's efforts? Oh well, I'll spare his life!"

With that thought, he dispersed his palm force and sighed, "Master, it's a cause for celebration that you've turned back. I was just too attached to appearances. I hope you will forgive my offense!"

Dizang was slightly taken aback, bowed his head, and said, "Thank you for your forgiveness, benefactor. I am ashamed!"

Long Hui said, "Master's timely appearance also saved my wife's life. The two favors are balanced, so there's no need for you to be so polite. We have other important matters to attend to, so we won't bother you any longer—please!"

With that, he pulled Bai Lingyu away.

Watching Long Hui's departing figure, Dizang clasped his hands together, bowed deeply in farewell, and then left with Diting.

In the twentieth chapter

, after being scattered by the chaotic army, Qiu Baifei finally escaped from Suming. Once outside the city gates, only about eight hundred men remained with him.

His personal guards asked, "General, where should we go?"

"Since the enemy has already breached Suming, the three nearby cities are likely also lost."

Qiu Baifei pondered for a moment, then pointed his whip eastward and said, "Let's rest in Zhangyun first, then return to Luochuan."

Qiu Baifei led his men towards Zhangyun, carefully avoiding the main roads of Danjun, Hezhou, and Kungang, choosing only side paths.

After traveling five or six miles, they suddenly heard the rapid sound of hooves from their left. Looking in the direction of the sound, they saw flickering firelight and a forest of armored soldiers. A general at the head, wielding two long sabers and riding a tall horse, shouted, "Qiu Baifei, where do you think you're going!"

It was Wang Dong. Qiu Baifei was terrified and dared not linger. He immediately ordered his men to speed up and flee. Wang Dong, however, was not about to let this great opportunity slip away. He led a hundred long saber cavalrymen in a charge.

But the long sabers were heavy, which greatly hampered the horses' running. Compared to Qiu Baifei and his men, who were lightly armed and fleeing, they were much faster. Wang Dong couldn't catch up and was furious

. He cursed, "Damn it! What was I thinking, chasing after someone with two such heavy sabers? I should have sent the light cavalry!" Qiu Baifei escaped Wang Dong's pursuit without serious injury, but his men were greatly frightened and exhausted. Just as they passed through a dark forest, several arrows shot from the shadows, killing several of his personal guards.

Another ambush? Qiu Baifei was startled, jerking off his horse. His eyes scanned the surroundings warily. Sure enough, a troop of soldiers emerged from the west, their leader wielding a powerful bow, arrows flying with deadly accuracy. Several of Qiu Baifei's personal guards fell from their horses.

"Qiu Baifei, surrender!"

shouted Liang Ming, the leader of the ambush.

Qiu Baifei gritted his teeth and cursed, "Truly, a tiger fallen into the plains is bullied by dogs! I never imagined I'd be played by such cowards!"

Liang Ming roared, "Even facing death, you remain stubborn! Men, fire!"

The bowstrings twanged, arrows rained down like locusts. Qiu Baifei and his men dared not linger. They drew their swords, deflected a few arrows, and immediately fled north.

Having been ambushed twice, Qiu Baifei had lost more than half his troops, and he himself had been struck in the arm by an arrow. Weak and exhausted, he was in a sorry state.

Leading his dejected personal guards, Qiu Baifei continued his escape, but the exhaustion of his men and horses severely hampered their progress.

After traveling two miles, they encountered another army blocking their path, led by Sun De.

"Capture Qiu Baifei alive!"

Sun De roared, leading his troops forward. Qiu Baifei, mustering his strength, ordered his flanks to engage Sun De and hold him off, while he himself fled amidst smoke and fire.

Sun De did not pursue, focusing only on seizing banners, letting Qiu Baifei escape.

As dawn broke, dark clouds covered the ground, and suddenly a torrential downpour soaked their armor.

Qiu Baifei and his soldiers marched in the rain, all showing signs of hunger.

Qiu Baifei ordered his men to plunder grain from villages and search for kindling. Just as they were about to cook, another army arrived from behind.

Qiu Baifei was alarmed, but upon closer inspection, he realized it was the Confucian master Yue Ning, Feng Yi, and others.

Feng Yi said, "General, Prime Minister Jin, having learned of Su Ming's battle situation, has specially dispatched us to provide support."

Qiu Baifei was overjoyed and ordered the troops to continue, asking, "What kind of terrain lies ahead?" His men reported,

"One side is the Southern Yi Road, and the other is the Northern Yi Mountain Road."

Qiu Baifei asked, "Which way is closest to Zhang Yun?"

A soldier replied, "The most convenient route is through the Northern Yi and across Tonghu Pass."

Cao Cao ordered them to take the Northern Yi route.

Upon reaching Tonghu Pass, the soldiers were all starving and could not walk, and the horses were exhausted, with many collapsing on the road.

Qiu Baifei ordered the troops to rest temporarily ahead. Those who had brought cooking pots or had looted grain from the villages found dry spots by the mountainside to cook and eat, cutting horse meat to roast.

They all took off their wet clothes and let them dry in the wind; the horses were unsaddled and allowed to roam freely, chewing on grass roots.

Qiu Baifei sat under a sparse grove, his spirit broken, looking at the hundreds of remaining soldiers, his heart filled with indescribable sorrow.

Just then, the vanguard and rearguard shouted in unison.

Qiu Baifei, startled, threw off his armor and mounted his horse, while many soldiers were unable to rein in their horses in time. Soon, smoke and fire filled the air, and an army arrayed itself at the mountain pass. Leading them was the female warrior Bai Lingyu, spear in hand, riding her horse and shouting, "Qiu Baifei, where do you think you're going!"

The soldiers and generals trembled at the sight of Bai Lingyu.

Le Ning drew her sword and rode off on a saddleless horse to fight Bai Lingyu.

Feng Yi drew his bow and arrow, spurring his horse to join the attack.

The two armies clashed in a chaotic melee. Qiu Baifei

escaped first, and the other generals fled.

Bai Lingyu pursued from behind.

Qiu Baifei fled swiftly, his pursuers receding into the distance. Looking back, many of his generals were wounded.

Le Ning and Feng Yi covered the retreat of their troops, not engaging in further combat, and with a feint, rode away.

After shaking off his pursuers, Qiu Baifei was on his way when a soldier reported, "There are two roads ahead. Which road should we take, General?"

Cao Cao asked, "Which road is shorter?"

The soldier replied, "The main road is relatively flat, but it's over fifty li further. The smaller road leads into Ape Arm Forest, which is about fifty li shorter. However, the terrain is narrow and the path is treacherous, with many potholes and difficult terrain."

Qiu Baifei sent someone up the mountain to observe, and they reported back, "There are several wisps of smoke rising from the side of the smaller road; there is no movement on the main road."

After thinking it over, Qiu Baifei ordered the vanguard to take the smaller road through Ape Arm Forest.

The generals said, "Where the smoke signals rise, there must be an army. Why take this route instead?"

Qiu Baifei replied, "Have you not heard the military strategist say, 'When the enemy is weak, make them strong; when they are strong, make them weak'? Long Hui is cunning. He sent men to set fires in the mountains to prevent our army from taking this mountain road, while he ambushed us on the main road. I have already anticipated this, and I will not fall into his trap! Furthermore, the enemy cavalry is formidable. Taking this dense forest path will restrict their mobility, which is greatly advantageous to us."

The generals all said, "General, your strategy is brilliant, beyond compare."

They then led their troops into the Ape Arm Forest.

By this time, everyone was starving, and the horses were exhausted.

Those with scorched heads and battered brows struggled to walk, while those wounded by arrows and spears barely managed to keep going.

Their armor was soaked through, and every soldier was incomplete; their weapons and banners were disheveled. Most of them had been driven in panic by the White Feather Army, riding only bare horses, their saddles, bridles, and clothes all abandoned, suffering terribly.

Entering the dense forest, they felt a chilling wind, and the soldiers shivered from the cold.

Feng Yi asked, "General, this place is full of trees and dense grass; we must be careful of the enemy setting fires."

Qiu Baifei replied, "It's alright. It's the rainy spring season now; they won't be able to light a fire! Besides, the terrain isn't particularly dangerous for us. If the enemy attacks, I can use the terrain for cover."

Feng Yi finally understood Qiu Baifei's intention. Although this place was dangerous, it might not be a bad thing for Qiu Baifei's remnant army. The complex terrain could hinder the Dragon Scale Army's pursuit, and if the enemy did ambush them here, Qiu Baifei could use the terrain to maneuver against them, and might even be able to escape unscathed. It was a place to catch their breath.

Qiu Baifei said, "The main road seems to be free of ambushes, but the risks are greater. Our army has less than five hundred men left. If we encounter the enemy in open terrain, not to mention anything else, those cavalry alone would be enough to make our lives extremely difficult."

He was risking taking the long way and the back road because he was worried about the Dragon Scale Army's sharp cavalry and weapons. At least in the dense forest, the enemy's trump cards would be hard to use.

Feng Yi had been somewhat displeased with Qiu Baifei's choice of this route, but after hearing his explanation, he nodded repeatedly, thinking to himself, "Not arrogant in victory, not discouraged in defeat, able to think calmly in such a dangerous situation, Qiu Baifei truly deserves to be called a great commander."

Qiu Baifei ordered his men to set up sentry posts around the area, and then let the army rest for a while, intending to rest for a full hour before continuing their journey.

As dawn broke and the sun rose in the east, the forest was still shrouded in darkness, the leaves blocking out the sunlight. Qiu Baifei, feeling tired, closed his eyes for a short nap, but had a nightmare in which he was bound hand and foot. Startled, he immediately opened his eyes.

Catching his breath, Qiu Baifei thought to himself, "To have such a strange dream at this hour, it seems this place is not safe to stay long. It's best to leave quickly!"

He then ordered his troops to set off again. The soldiers were exhausted and resentful, but Qiu Baifei's military discipline was extremely strict, so they dared not speak out and had to press on.

Navigating the dense forest required finding their way. Le Ning took out a compass from her bosom to guide the army. The deeper they went into the Ape Arm Forest, the more Qiu Baifei's eyelids twitched. For some reason, he felt someone was watching him, so he looked back, but each time he only saw his soldiers, nothing unusual.

Feng Yi noticed Qiu Baifei's troubled expression and asked, "General, what's troubling you?"

Qiu Baifei replied, "Mr. Feng, do you find anything strange here?"

Feng Yi said, "Nothing seems amiss. Perhaps you're just overthinking things?"

Qiu Baifei sighed, "I hope so."

He then continued on his way, but after traveling half a mile, the unease still lingered. Qiu Baifei pulled on the reins and ordered, "Halt! Report your numbers!"

The generals found their commander increasingly incomprehensible, yet they complied. The count revealed 418 men remaining.

Qiu Baifei shook his head, "That's not right. There were 456 men before we set off. How come several dozen are missing?" Feng Yi said, "The forest path is rugged and difficult to traverse; soldiers inevitably fall behind."

Qiu Baifei said, "Falling behind shouldn't result in dozens disappearing at once. There must be something fishy going on."

He then ordered his men to check the ranks, and indeed, several dozen were missing. They questioned the soldiers, but they didn't know where their companions had gone.

Qiu Baifei sighed inwardly, "I hope we've just fallen behind."

He continued walking, but with each step, he felt the number of men dwindle. At first, it was two or three, then seven or eight, and later more than a dozen. The Ape Arm Forest seemed like the gaping maw of a gluttonous beast, constantly swallowing those who entered.

After walking three miles, Qiu Baifei's remaining troops numbered only 365. The two great stewards of the Confucian school also sensed something amiss. Le Ning frowned and said, "General, please allow me to play a tune!"

She took out a white jade flute from her bosom, placed it before her lips, gathered her qi, and played a melody with overwhelming power. The melodious and clear sound waves spread in all directions, shaking the trees and trembling the weeds. As the sound waves spread, several muffled groans came from the surrounding tall trees, and several mouthfuls of blood spilled onto the ground, clearly indicating injuries from the sound waves.

"An ambush!"

Qiu Baifei immediately realized that the reason his men were dwindling was most likely due to these ambushes.

Seeing their presence exposed, the hidden men no longer held back, shouting, "Men, attack!"

Before the words were even finished, figures darted through the surrounding trees, nimble and agile, moving freely between the branches as if on flat ground.

Qiu Baifei ordered his men to fire arrows, but the enemies weaved through the trees, the branches and leaves obscuring most of the arrows; Qiu Baifei's

efforts were futile. The group was small, only about two hundred men. Some swung on vines, others leaped and bounded, and in a few swift movements, they captured Qiu Baifei's men and hoisted them into the trees. Qiu Baifei then understood how his men had been reduced—they had been captured by these enemies without him noticing.

"All troops, form a crescent formation to meet the enemy!"

Qiu Baifei immediately ordered his men to adopt a defensive stance to resist the enemy's sneak attack. The troops spread out in an arc, supporting each other, forming a crescent formation for defense.

However, the enemy was in no hurry to attack, instead darting among the surrounding tall trees, constantly disrupting Qiu Baifei and his men's vision.

Feng Yi was different from ordinary soldiers; his eyes were like torches, and his aura instantly locked onto an enemy. He then fired an arrow, piercing the enemy through the skin.

"Xiao Wu!"

Seeing his brother's tragic death, the leader was enraged and roared, "You're courting death!" Immediately, a demonic aura emanated from his body, and the illusory image of an eight-armed ape appeared in the bushes—it was Yuan Feizi, the ape demon general.

Only then did Le Ning and Feng Yi realize the enemy's origin: a group of monkey spirits.

The eight demon clans each possess unique characteristics. The Unicorn Giants are incredibly strong, making them natural heavy infantry; the Lion and Wolf clans are brave and skilled warriors, the main force on the front lines; the Proud Bird clan dominates the air, launching surprise attacks from above; the Fox clan is adept at transformation, suitable for spies; the Snake and Scorpion clans use poison, excelling in assassination and sneak attacks; and the Ape clan are experts in jungle warfare. They are skilled climbers, agile and nimble in the forest, often catching enemies off guard.

This deep mountain forest is the Ape clan's domain. Yuan Feizi led his men in a rapid attack, swift as the wind, striking and retreating without engaging the enemy on the ground, regardless of success or failure.

Suddenly, a monkey demon leaped down, slashing down an enemy soldier with a single blow, then climbed up a tree, leaving Qiu Baifei with no way to retaliate.

"Let's shoot arrows!" The surrounding area was overgrown with weeds and branches; aiming was impossible, let alone firing an arrow. Only Feng Yi could threaten this group of monkey demons, but Yuan Feizi had experienced Feng Yi's archery skills firsthand and wouldn't let him fire an arrow easily.

Just as Feng Yi drew his bow, Yuan Feizi pulled out a hidden weapon and shot it at him. Feng Yi had no choice but to withdraw his arrow for defense, unable to fire effectively. Seeing this,

Le Ning was about to play a sonic melody, but Yuan Feizi immediately ordered, "Everyone retreat!"

Before Le Ning could even begin, the monkey demons had already fled far away; the sonic waves couldn't reach them at all.

To play a sonic melody, one must gather sufficient true energy, but gathering true energy is also a draining process. Long-term energy gathering is extremely tiring, especially the dissipation after gathering, which is detrimental to one's physical body. Le Ning, after being tormented by these monkeys several times, felt exhausted.

Yuan Feizi seized the opportunity and shouted, "Brothers, the little wench is dead, let's make our move!"

The monkey demons howled excitedly and took out their grappling hooks, throwing them at the enemy soldiers on the ground. The iron hooks pierced flesh, and Qiu Baifei's soldiers were forcibly pulled up, causing the Crescent Moon Formation to collapse instantly.

After dismantling the enemy's last defenses, the monkey demons hurled hidden weapons at Qiu Baifei, inflicting heavy casualties.

Yuan Feizi then ordered, "Throw the Rift Spears!"

The monkey demons unleashed their Rift Spears, causing chaos below. This remaining force suffered over 90% casualties, and Qiu Baifei was thrown from his horse by the blast, writhing in excruciating pain. Despite the

pain, he stubbornly remounted and fled.

Seeing their leader fleeing alone, Yuan Feizi chuckled, leaping and darting after him. The two engaged in a chase through the forest.

Qiu Baifei galloped below, while Yuan Feizi leaped and climbed among the trees. After chasing for over three hundred paces, Yuan Feizi grabbed a vine, infused it with demonic energy, and lashed it at Qiu Baifei on the ground.

The vines, brimming with demonic energy, were no less powerful than iron chains. Qiu Baifei, whipped in the shoulder, felt his bones ache and was thrown into the air. Yuan Feizi laughed, twisting his wrist with skillful force, causing the vines to coil around Qiu Baifei in mid-air, turning him into a dumpling. Then, with a swift movement, Yuan Feizi pulled Qiu Baifei up into the tree.

"You demon monkey, how dare you be disrespectful to this commander!"

Qiu Baifei cried out in fury and struggled, but the demonic vines were incredibly resilient, and he couldn't break free quickly.

Yuan Feizi chuckled, casually sealing Qiu Baifei's acupoints. Qiu Baifei's energy was depleted, leaving him powerless, and

he was captured alive. Yuan Feizi, carrying Qiu Baifei, ignored the remaining Le Ning and Feng Yi, and called to his men, "Brothers, we've got the dumpling! Let's go back and claim our reward!"

The monkey demons cheered, darting through the trees and quickly leaving the Ape Arm Forest.

Emerging from the Ape-Arm Forest, they saw a thousand troops lined up ahead, led by a refined man holding a fan—none other than Feng Wangchen.

Yuan Feizi bowed and said, "Military Advisor Feng, I have lived up to your expectations and captured Qiu Baifei!"

Feng Wangchen smiled and said, "General Yuan, you have worked hard. When we return, the Dragon Lord will surely reward you handsomely!"

Yuan Feizi offered a few more words of flattery and then presented Qiu Baifei.

Feng Wangchen ordered his men to throw Qiu Baifei into a prison cart, chain his limbs, and then escort him back to Muzhou.

Captured unexpectedly, Qiu Baifei's eyes were filled with hatred as he stared intently at Feng Wangchen.

Feng Wangchen laughed, "Commander Qiu, allow me to introduce myself. I am Feng Wangchen, strategist under the Dragonscale Army. I wonder if the Commander is satisfied with my hospitality?"

Qiu Baifei gritted his teeth and said, "You deliberately forced me into the Ape Arm Forest?"

Feng Wangchen nodded, "Indeed, the Commander guessed correctly!"

A fierce glint flashed in Qiu Baifei's eyes, and a death wish arose. He was about to bite his tongue and commit suicide, but Feng Wangchen was one step ahead, grabbing his chin and stuffing a pill into his mouth.

The pill melted instantly in his mouth, and Qiu Baifei felt all his strength drain away, his muscles and bones went limp, and he couldn't muster any energy.

"You... what did you feed me!"

Qiu Baifei asked weakly.

Feng Wangchen said, "General, you are a distinguished guest of our army. To avoid any complications on the journey, my mistress specially instructed me to give you this bone-softening pill. Please forgive any offense caused."

A thousand soldiers escorted the prison cart back to Muzhou. Qiu Baifei was filled with bitterness, but unable to vent it, he could only helplessly look around.

Muzhou city was peaceful and its inhabitants lived in harmony; the soldiers did not disturb the people, and the streets were calm, completely unaffected by the war. Upon entering the military camp, they saw a mighty army, heavily armored, and displaying unparalleled military prowess.

Upon entering the camp, Feng Wangchen ordered the prison cart to be opened and the chains to be untied, saying, "General, please come in. My Lord Long has been waiting in the camp for a long time!"

Qiu Baifei snorted coldly and walked proudly into the central command tent. Long Hui sat alone at a table. Upon seeing Qiu Baifei enter, he immediately ordered a stool to be brought over.

"I am already a prisoner. You needn't be so hospitable. Just tie me up and throw me in jail, or behead me and display my head!"

Qiu Baifei didn't sit down, coldly glaring at Long Hui.

Long Hui remained unperturbed, saying, "General Qiu, I only treat you with such courtesy because I respect your loyalty to the country. If it were Zhang Huanyu, I would have dragged him out and beheaded without a word!"

Qiu Baifei seemed to have heard the most absurd thing, laughing loudly, "Loyal to the country? To receive such praise from a traitor like you is truly an insult to me!"

Long Hui said, "General, it's too early to draw conclusions. I've said many times who the traitor is, and I believe the truth will eventually come out."

Qiu Baifei mocked, "Then I look forward to that..." "The day the truth comes out!"

Long Hui waved his hand and said, "Men, take Commander Qiu to Jinling for recuperation. Do not neglect him!"

Qiu Baifei snorted and said, "If you don't kill me, you will definitely regret it later!"

Long Hui said, "Who knows what the future holds?"

After Qiu Baifei left, Bai Lingyu came in and asked, "Husband, Qiu Baifei is always a threat as long as he lives. Why not kill him?"

Long Hui said, "Qiu Baifei still has many loyal old subordinates in the Jiangnan army. Killing him would only make his old subordinates completely defect to Zhang Huanyu." "It's better to keep him alive, so Zhang Huanyu won't be able to take over the military power in Jiangnan so easily."

Bai Lingyu sighed, "Originally, we were going to capture both of them, but that beast interfered, and in the end, we failed."

Long Hui said, "This may not be a bad thing. At least after Zhang Huanyu goes back, the old subordinates of the Jiangnan army will definitely suspect him."

Bai Lingyu suddenly realized, "I see. Qiu Baifei's old subordinates will definitely think that Zhang Huanyu is afraid of death."

Long Hui laughed, "They might even think that his incompetence led to Qiu Baifei's capture, and that Zhang Huanyu..." "Taking over the military power of Jiangnan will also cause friction with the Jiangnan army. In short, we're guaranteed to make a profit!"

Bai Lingyu said happily, "You cunning little thief, you've even figured this out!"

Long Hui didn't blush and said with a smile, "You flatter me, Madam!"

Bai Lingyu leaned close to his ear and said in a sweet voice, "Bing'er just sent someone to tell you that she has a big gift for you. She wants you to go home as soon as you finish your military affairs."

The little phoenix's big gifts are always so unexpected. Thinking of this, Long Hui was eager to go home and was full of anticipation to see the mysterious gift.

After the generals returned to their camps and reported the details of the battle, Long Hui was extremely satisfied. This surprise attack not only destroyed Cang Shitian's outpost but also scattered 200,000 troops. Although the number of troops used was less than 50,000, which was not enough to effectively annihilate the enemy's manpower, it still provided a buffer zone for the Twelve Earthly Branches Formation. At least Muzhou did not have to face the enemy's hundreds of thousands of troops head-on. With Su Ming and the other four cities blocking the way, the Longlin Army could catch its breath.

After finishing his business, Long Hui arranged a time with everyone for a victory banquet and then everyone dispersed. Long Hui also prepared to return home to be with his beloved wife. Before he even left the camp, he saw Murong Xi rushing over, and beside him was Du Jiao, whom he had not seen for many days.

"Third Young Master, what wind blew you all the way from Jinling to Muzhou today?"

Long Hui teased. "Even Miss Du is here. Are you preparing to send me an invitation?"

Murong Xi said with a worried expression, "Brother Long, may I have a word with you in private?"

Seeing his seriousness, Long Hui led them to his residence.

This Long residence was merely a temporary house that Long Hui had purchased, used for both living and handling military affairs, essentially a temporary commander's mansion, located opposite Ling Xiao's general's residence.

Upon entering the mansion, Long Hui greeted the two in the main hall. Chu Wanbing, hearing of Long Hui's return, came out to greet him with a joyful expression, but seeing the worried faces of Murong Xi and Du Jiao, she swallowed back the coquettish words that were about to spill from her mouth.

"Young Master Murong, Miss Du,"

Chu Wanbing said with a gentle smile, "I was truly delighted to have you grace my humble abode with your presence."

The young phoenix greeted the guests with poise and grace, displaying the demeanor of a high-ranking wife.

Murong Xi forced a smile, accepted the hot tea, and politely took a sip, while Du Jiao's brows furrowed, her eyes brimming with tears.

Chu Wanbing asked softly, "Miss Du, has something troubled you?"

Du Jiao's eyes suddenly reddened, tears welling up in her eyes.

Murong Xi sighed, took her soft hand, and gently comforted her, "Little Chili, don't cry. Tell Brother Long and Sister-in-law what happened. They'll definitely have a way to save Uncle."

Long Hui's eyelids twitched, and he asked, "What happened to Master Du Tianyun?"

Du Jiao bit her lip and whispered, "Father... has been imprisoned!"

Long Hui said, "Who dares to be so bold as to cause trouble at Tianma Manor!"

In the past, among the martial arts sects, the Three Religions were the strongest, followed closely by Tianjian Valley. Although Tianma Manor wasn't the strongest, it was still a powerful force in its own right, and most importantly, no one dared to cause trouble for it.

Why? Because Tianma Manor was famous for its fine horses, supplying horses to the imperial court and military personnel every year. Therefore, ninety percent of the horse trade in the world was controlled by Tianma Manor. Even disciples of the Three Religions had to ride horses when traveling long distances. Who would dare to offend Tianma Manor? Even Yuanding, who once possessed the Zhengyang Earth Vein, had to show deference to Du Tianyun.

Imprisoning Du Tianyun—only Cang Shitian in the whole world has the ability and courage to do so. But Long Hui couldn't understand why Cang Shitian would do this. If he wanted warhorses, he could simply issue an imperial decree, and Tianma Manor would obediently provide the fine steeds. Why imprison Du Tianyun? Doing so would be tantamount to killing the goose that lays the golden eggs, even if he gained control of Tianma Manor.

Long Hui asked, "Miss Du, don't rush, have some water first and then tell me slowly."

Du Jiao nodded, took a sip of hot tea, and said, "Before the Spring Festival, several people came to the manor to wish my father a Happy New Year. My father has always enjoyed making friends, and seeing that they had come from afar, he warmly welcomed them. During the banquet, they proposed to my father that they wanted to do business, and they were very generous, offering twice the price of others. My father didn't think much of it and agreed. He then personally took them to select fine horses. After they selected a hundred good horses, they pretended to be very friendly and talked to my father. My father didn't suspect anything and even tried to befriend them. However, one of them suddenly brought up the secret manual of my Du family ancestors, saying that he wanted to buy the manual for a large sum of money. My father refused on the spot."

Long Hui and Chu Wanbing exchanged a glance, knowing that this so-called secret manual was the source of Du Tianyun's suffering.

Chu Wanbing asked, "Miss Du, please forgive my bluntness, but what is the origin of this secret manual?"

Du Jiao replied, "Sister, please don't be so polite. Now that things have come to this, I won't hide anything anymore. To tell you the truth, this secret manual is called the Beast Taming Manual. It was obtained by my Du family ancestor through a fortuitous encounter. It records methods for taming and controlling beasts. My ancestor extracted the method for taming horses from it and founded Tianma Manor."

Du Jiao continued, "After being rejected by Father, they harbored ulterior motives and launched a sneak attack on the manor on New Year's Eve. They were highly skilled in martial arts, especially the man who inquired about the Beast Taming Manual; he single-handedly swept through the entire Tianma Manor. After injuring and capturing Father, they used me and Mother as hostages. Father, under duress..." Helpless, they had no choice but to hand over the Beast Taming Manual. They then went all out, imprisoning Father and having one of them impersonate him to control the entire manor.

Hearing this, Long Hui had already guessed most of the truth and was seething with hatred: "So that's why the enemy had such a ferocious beast cavalry force! They stole the manual from Tianma Manor! Cang Shitian is truly ruthless and despicable!"

Du Jiao wept, "A few days ago, I escaped with the help of a maid… Once they find me missing, they'll surely torture my parents again."

Murong Xi understood her feelings and deeply felt her sorrow. Without hesitation, he put his arm around her shoulder and gently comforted her.

Knowing the gravity of the situation, Long Hui immediately invited Meng Ke and others to discuss the matter. Upon hearing of Tianma Manor's ordeal, everyone was filled with indignation.

Meng Ke said, "Brother Long, Tianma Manor is in imminent danger, and we cannot ignore it!"

Long Hui nodded and said, "For both public and private reasons, I will not stand idly by, but to help Master Du, we must have a detailed plan."

Meng Ke said, "Brother Long, if you trust me, Meng Ziyu, then entrust this matter to me!"

Long Hui was slightly taken aback, and Kong Qiu echoed, "Yes, General Long, the war in Jiangnan is currently intense, and you really have no time to spare. It would be better to let my senior brother and Zhongni go to the Northwest."

Long Hui nodded and said, "In that case, I will trouble you two!"

Kong and Meng nodded in agreement, and Murong Xi and Du Jiao were also extremely grateful.

After a short rest, the four left Muzhou the next morning. They took a shortcut to avoid the enemy's defenses and headed for Tianma Manor. On their way, they encountered two graceful figures blocking their path. One was carrying a sword on her back, dressed in a tight-fitting outfit, with her hair tied in a warrior's bun. She had fair skin and a beautiful face, and exuded a heroic spirit, displaying the demeanor of a chivalrous woman. This was Beicheng Lu. The other was wearing a pink dress, with a sword at her waist, and her hair tied in a woman's bun. Her face was flushed with rain, and she was a beautiful guest. This was Meng Ke's wife, Su Hejun.

Meng Ke and Murong Xi's eyes widened simultaneously. Bei Chenglu snorted, "Murong Xiaosan, what are you glaring at? Are you surprised to see me?"

Meng Ke also asked curiously, "He Jun, why are you here too?"

Su He Jun bit her lip and lowered her head, saying, "Meng Lang, I want to go to the Northwest with you."

Meng Ke flicked his sleeve and said, "Nonsense! We're going to rescue people, not to go sightseeing. What are you doing here!"

Su He Jun raised her pretty face and said, "It's precisely because you're going to rescue people that I'm coming!"

Meng Ke sighed, "He..." "Jun, this journey to the Northwest is extremely dangerous. Don't be stubborn, go home quickly!"

Su Hejun stubbornly replied, "No, I'll go wherever you go!"

Meng Ke angrily said, "This is outrageous! If you don't go back, don't blame me for being impolite!"

Su Hejun gazed at him and said, "Every time you go out, you come home covered in wounds. Do you know how worried I am every time I see you leave, afraid that you... you'll never come back!"

As she said this, tears rolled down her cheeks, and she sobbed uncontrollably.

Meng Ke felt a pang of sadness and sighed, "He Jun, I'm so sorry. I promise I'll come back safely this time. You should go home now."

Su He Jun cried out "No!" through her tears and threw herself into his arms, hugging Meng Ke tightly. She said, "Meng Lang, please don't leave He Jun alone again... This time, let He Jun accompany you to Tianma Manor!"

Meng Ke's chest was already soaked with hot tears, and his heart was filled with warmth. He didn't know what to say.

Su Hejun said, word by word, "Meng Ziyu, unless you write a letter of divorce, I will never leave today!"

Confucius coughed and said, "Senior brother, it's rare for your sister-in-law to be so affectionate, so please don't refuse. As the saying goes, it takes a hundred years of cultivation to share a boat ride, and a thousand years to share a pillow. Husband and wife should weather the storms together and never abandon each other."

Meng Ke sighed and patted Su Hejun's shoulder, saying, "Alright, Hejun, I was wrong before. I will never abandon you again."

Su Hejun smiled through her tears and wiped them away.

Meanwhile, Murong Xi pulled Bei Chenglu aside and complained, "Lulu, why did you come here too!"

Bei Chenglu retorted, "When Sister Du Jiao came looking for you, I knew something had happened. Luckily, Sister Su discussed it with me last night, and I found out that you, this heartless man, were going to the Northwest."

Murong Xi said, "Lulu, I went to Tianma Manor to take care of important business!"

Bei Chenglu spat, "Seriously? With your pathetic skills, you can't even beat me. Are you going to deliver vegetables to Tianma Manor?"

Murong Xi was both amused and exasperated, realizing that the girl was going to follow them.

Du Jiao felt a warmth in her heart seeing Bei Chenglu's efforts to help her and said gratefully, "Sister Bei Cheng, thank you!" Bei Chenglu took her hand and said, "Why be so polite among sisters? I'll go and meet those madmen and see what they're capable of, daring to cause trouble at Tianma Manor!"

Tianma Manor was located in the Wuyuan Plain in the northwest of Shenzhou. The terrain was vast, with abundant water and grass, making it a prime location for grazing horses. Moreover, it connected to the Western Regions in the west and the Northern Frontier in the north, making it a strategically important location and the foundation for the rise of the Du family.

Upon entering the Wuyuan region, the six became even more discreet. Meng Ke disguised himself as a burly merchant, Kong Qiu as a clerk, and Murong Xi as an accountant. As for Du Jiao and the other two women, they changed into coarse linen clothes, darkened their faces to conceal their stunning beauty, and disguised themselves as several servants carrying goods and doing odd jobs. The six

found an inn to stay in and noticed that there were many martial arts figures inside. Du Jiao whispered, "Every year around this time is Father's birthday, and heroes from all walks of life come to the manor to offer their congratulations." Du Tianyun

was quite famous in the martial arts world, and coupled with his hospitality and wide circle of friends, he had connections with both the legitimate and illegitimate factions. Every year, heroes from all walks of life would flock to Tianma Manor to offer their congratulations at his birthday banquet. In addition to the birthday celebration, Du Tianyun would hold a fine horse appreciation event every year on his birthday, either appraising fine horses for others or selecting fine horses from the manor to give away as gifts. Either way, it drove outsiders crazy.

A horse praised by the owner of Tianma Manor must be one in a million, its value skyrocketing. Therefore, every year horse dealers bring their finest steeds. Even if Du Tianyun just glances at his own horse a few more times, he can still fetch a hefty price. Meanwhile, those from the martial arts world mostly come seeking exceptional steeds.

Meng Ke was eating with his head down when suddenly two men entered. One had a full beard and a robust physique, exuding an extraordinary air as he walked. The other wore a felt hat, had a thick mustache, and a sallow complexion, appearing cunning, but his eyes were bright and intelligent.

Seeing their unusual appearance, Meng Ke paid them a closer look.

The two men found a corner to sit down and ordered some wine and dishes to eat quietly.

Just then, another group of men arrived, carrying knives and swords, looking fierce and menacing. They shouted, "Boss, bring up the food and wine quickly! I'm in a hurry!"

The shopkeeper smiled obsequiously, "Gentlemen, you've come at a bad time. Our shop is full. There's a restaurant up ahead with pretty good food and wine. Why don't you try it?"

The burly leader retorted menacingly, "Outrageous! I'm in a hurry. By the time I get to the front, it'll be too late! Can't you give me a table?"

The shopkeeper said, "Sir, the customers are still eating. I can't just turn them away from my small business!"

The burly man snorted, "Fine, I won't make things difficult for you, a businessman. I'll find a table myself!" The burly man

stormed in with his men, and the diners inside felt a chill. They lowered their heads and ate, not daring to look them in the eye for fear of causing trouble.

The burly man glanced around, walked to a table in the corner, and slammed his hand on the table, shouting, "You—get up and give up your seats!"

The bearded man replied nonchalantly, "Don't you know what first come, first served?"

The burly man pulled out a string of copper coins, slammed them on the table, and yelled, "I'll pay for your food and drink. Give up the table

so this old man can eat!" The yellow-faced, bearded man chuckled, pulled a silver ingot from his pocket, and casually tossed it on the table, saying, "Consider this silver ingot a reward. Don't disturb our meal!"

The man, used to being domineering, was already pushing his luck by offering to pay the bill. Encountering someone who dared to defy him, he immediately flew into a rage, raising his fist to strike.

Meng Ke, unable to bear it any longer, was about to intervene when the burly man groaned and flew backward, landing heavily outside the door. Meanwhile, the bearded man continued drinking, as if nothing had happened.

"Such swift movements!"

Meng Ke was secretly surprised. Even with his cultivation level, he couldn't see how the burly man was defeated, which showed the bearded man's skill.

Murong Xi whispered, "Brother Meng, those two are very unusual. If they are also here to celebrate a birthday at Tianma Manor, we need to be even more careful!"

Meng Ke nodded and said, "Young Master Murong is right. I will find an opportunity to find out their capabilities."

Just as they were discussing in hushed tones, a cold light suddenly shone from the corner table. The two men felt goosebumps rise all over their bodies, as if their spines had been doused with cold water.

Meng Ke suppressed his unease and looked back in the direction of the cold light, only to meet the bearded man's ambiguous smile. He heard us talking! Meng Ke felt a chill run through his body,

and a cold sweat surged from the soles of his feet.
