"First Love Reappears: Destiny" - (Part 3) I'm so lucky, I met you on my first day at school.

Eight years ago
Luo Juan walked curiously through the campus. University had already started, and small groups of people were everywhere, their shouts, laughter, and conversations rising and falling. Although freshman registration would be a few days later, she couldn't contain her excitement and rushed to the school early, looking around like a country bumpkin who had never seen the world before. The tall teaching buildings, the bustling sports field, the beautiful tree-lined paths, and the enthusiastic, energetic students were everywhere. Thinking that she would be one of them tomorrow, Luo Juan felt extremely proud.
She wasn't particularly ambitious, so her grades in middle school were just average, and she never imagined she'd one day get into one of the nation's top universities. She'd never forget that ordinary Thursday three years ago when she twisted her ankle going upstairs. It wasn't serious, but Luo Juan saw an opportunity to skip school, so she cried loudly a few times, and the school contacted her father to pick her up. Unexpectedly, her father didn't take her home; instead, he took her to a restaurant in an ecological park for a meal.
In the center of the ecological park's lobby stood a two-meter-tall glass goldfish. It wasn't the first time she'd seen glassware—after all, she had so many cups, vases, and chandeliers at home—but it was the first time she'd truly appreciated the beauty of glass. Luo Juan instantly fell in love with this crystal-clear, exquisite work of art. Her father urged her to leave several times, but she stood before the sculpture, unable to move, and vowed that one day she too would create all sorts of beautiful sculptures from glass.
Now that she had taken another step closer to her dream, how could she not be happy! Luo Juan wandered around the campus, spending the whole morning there, still not satisfied. She then went into the rows of shops near the school gate and bought a bunch of clothes, pants, bags, and stationery printed with the school's name. Seeing a bookstore in the corner, she decided to buy a few more reference books related to her major, but some problems arose when she went to pay.
"Boss, students get a 20% discount!" Luo Juan reminded them, pointing to the notice in front of the cashier.
The shopkeeper didn't even lift his eyelids, but simply asked, "Where's your student ID?"
Luo Juan then remembered that she still needed her identification. She felt a little embarrassed but couldn't hide her pride. "I'm a freshman, I haven't registered yet!"
The shopkeeper reached out for the money, acting as if Luo Juan didn't need to ramble on, "Then there's no discount."
Luo Juan wrinkled her nose, feeling rather unhappy. She thought to herself, "Why is the boss so stubborn?" But then she heard a teasing voice coming from behind her.
"Old Xia, why are you so stubborn? What's the difference between her buying it now and buying it in a couple of days? Holding onto it for a couple of days won't magically turn you into a fortune. Maybe the moment the pretty girl leaves, someone will tell her there's a cheaper one online. Aren't you just ruining your own business?"
Luo Juan was overjoyed and turned to look at the person who had spoken up for her. Her eyes lit up; the boy was tall and slender, wearing a polo shirt with the school's name printed on it, the collar slightly open and the wrists loosely rolled up. His thick, dark eyebrows were rebelliously arched upwards, and his bright, sunny eyes were deep and piercing, radiating an irresistible energy.
Old Xia frowned, clearly familiar with the boy who had spoken. As he recalculated the book prices in the cash register, he shouted, "Feng Dingyan, stop pretending to be a good guy. Tell me how many books you've stolen from here over the years? If you really care about my business, give me back the money you've stolen."
Luo Juan happily paid for the book and held it in her arms. The two walked out of the bookstore together. She pointed to a newspaper he had just bought and asked, "Were you originally planning to spend money or not?"
Feng Dingyan smiled at Luo Juan and said, "It wasn't decided yet at the time. This matter is very random."
Luo Juan smiled and looked at the ice cream shop not far away, suggesting, "Are you in a hurry? I'll treat you to a drink. Just pretend my book wasn't discounted, and your newspaper... um... I accidentally forgot to pay?"
Feng Dingyan didn't stand on ceremony, glancing at his watch and saying, "I have time for a beer, especially since it's a beautiful lady's treat. Thanks!"
Luo Juan smiled, but didn't say anything because she didn't know what to say. The word 'beautiful woman' was just a polite term. Luo Juan was very self-aware; she had seen truly beautiful and sexy girls, and compared to them, she was just not ugly.
The two sat at a small round table under a parasol. Luo Juan handed him the ice-cold beer she had bought and said, "You're welcome. I'm the lucky one to meet you on my first day at school."
He waved his hand dismissively and said, "We're going to be junior students soon, so we're practically family. No need to be polite. By the way, my name is Feng Dingyan. Next time you go to that bookstore, just mention my name. If they still don't give you a discount, I'll steal everything from the bookstore!"
Luo Juan shook her head slightly, a faint smile appearing on her face. "Didn't you notice? Old Xia just said that."
Feng Dingyan hadn't noticed Lao Xia mention his name, but he did notice that the girl in front of him had a local accent and was looking at him with a peculiar gaze, as if she hoped he would recognize her. Feng Dingyan racked his brains, but couldn't recall anything. If he had known her, he would have forgotten long ago. Somewhat troubled, he said apologetically, "Have we met before?"
Upon hearing this, she immediately chuckled, took a sip of her cola, and simply said, "Tell me!"
"Oh, right, that opening line is indeed too cliché and old-fashioned for a beautiful woman." Feng Dingyan immediately realized that his question could easily be misunderstood. He was a little embarrassed and was about to explain when he suddenly heard a familiar, clear voice calling his name from not far away. He turned his head and immediately smiled; it was just in time.
Feng Dingyan downed the beer in his glass in two gulps and said, "That's Zhou Xiao, my girlfriend. I have to go now. Well, nice to meet you, goodbye."
Zhou Xiao looked wary until Feng Dingyan rushed up to her, then asked, "Who is it? They seem to be chatting animatedly."
Feng Dingyan then realized that in his haste, he had forgotten to ask the junior's name. He turned to look back and caught Zhou Xiao staring at him sharply. They hadn't seen each other for a whole holiday, and he didn't want to upset Zhou Xiao as soon as they met. Feng Dingyan put his arm around Zhou Xiao's shoulder and walked towards the school gate, saying, "What are you worried about? We don't even know any of this year's freshmen."
Zhou Xiao's expression relaxed, and she gently patted his arm, keeping her distance from him. "What am I worried about? What do I have to worry about?"
Feng Dingyan didn't mind, just chuckled. Zhou Xiaoshu was quiet, dignified, and conservative. Although she had been his girlfriend for a long time, she didn't like to be too intimate with him in public, only allowing him to kiss and hug her when they were alone. It wasn't until last year that Feng Dingyan finally managed to coax Zhou Xiaoshu to his home, finally getting his wish to run the runner. After that, although Zhou Xiaoshu no longer refused intimacy, she was still shy and couldn't let loose. After visiting his house a few times, she was even uncomfortable taking off her clothes. She always had to take a shower first, and then always put on a bathrobe and wrap herself up from head to toe before coming out. Even if she had to take them off again the next second, she would go back to the bedroom, turn off the lights, and get into bed before undressing.
Feng Dingyan initially found Zhou Xiao's shyness and reserve amusing, but he knew he had to be patient. After all, it was precisely this personality of Zhou Xiao's that he loved. When his father was alive, he had made up his mind that the person he met would never be a carbon copy of his mother, and Zhou Xiao was the perfect choice. They had only one year left before graduation; Zhou Xiao was an only child, and her family didn't live here, so he needed to plan their future carefully. Feng Dingyan had already decided that he would even go back to her hometown with her; in short, Zhou Xiao was the woman God had tailor-made for him, and they were destined to be together.
Feng Dingyan took Zhou Xiao's hand, his eyes full of love, and said, "Come on, come home with me, I've missed you so much."
Luo Juan rested one elbow on the table, her hand supporting her chin, glaring as Feng Dingyan and his girlfriend walked away from the school side by side. Zhou Xiao had delicate and gentle features; she was a true beauty. Coupled with her tall figure, she and Feng Dingyan looked like they were made for each other—a perfect match, a talented man and a beautiful woman.
"Hey, you're still staring, aren't you!" Suddenly, someone tapped her on the shoulder. Luo Juan was startled and realized it was her old neighbor Ding Han. Ding Han was a year ahead of her and a true academic star. Over the years, Ding Han had given Luo Juan a lot of tutoring at home.
"I was just saying I was looking for you, and here we are today. Who's that? You're staring at her so intently!" Ding Han glanced at the two people in the distance and noticed that Luo Juan was still reluctant to look away. She chuckled and said, "You'd better dress up nicely for tomorrow's registration. Don't worry about not having guys around you. There are more men than women here, so finding a boyfriend will be easy!"
Luo Juan's cheeks flushed slightly as she explained, "We used to know each other, but he doesn't remember."
Ding Han was somewhat surprised, raising an eyebrow and saying, "That's a strange thing to say. Didn't you tell him?"
Luo Juan shook her head. "That's not a topic he'd like to talk about."
Her gaze returned to Feng Dingyan's retreating figure, to his broad shoulders and narrow hips, like that of a young girl experiencing her first love. No, she was indeed that young girl experiencing her first love, falling in love with him on this day, at this moment. It wasn't the kind of change that felt like being struck by lightning, Luo Juan smiled self-deprecatingly, nor was it the kind of emotional shock she felt when she first saw the glass goldfish. It was a slow, subtle understanding, a change that occurred before she fully comprehended it, a change that became a definite outcome after she noticed the difference.
