Christmas Monsoon - 85 I called him here

She wasn't joking, and this wasn't one of those online jokes about renting a boyfriend to take home for the New Year. Xu Weicheng had already introduced her to his mother; she wouldn't betray his sincerity. It was indeed too fast, but they were compatible and well-matched. Besides, there was always a slow-burning happiness when they were together—why not?
A full minute passed, and she thought he was going to joke again, saying things like, "I should be the one proposing," or "You're being so proactive, it's embarrassing for me." But Xu Weicheng remained serious. He simply nodded and solemnly said, "Okay."
The assistant director was calling Xu Weicheng's name, but he seemed not to hear, looking down at her, his eyes sparkling with a mixture of light and shadow, a hint of joy amidst his certainty. Xu Yicong took a step forward and hugged him, "You go quickly, I'm going back to the hospital, goodbye."
The taxi driver was still waiting outside the bamboo grove when Xu Yicong ran back, panting, "Back to the hospital."
It was already completely dark when Xu Yicong finally stepped into the brightly lit elevator in the hospital and saw her flushed cheeks and ears. Fortunately, her hands were cold, so she covered her face with them, which finally cooled her down.
The elevator arrived at the floor with a "ding," and the doors slid open. She looked up and saw Xu Huansi and Secretary Li standing outside. Secretary Li was shrewd and perceptive, and greeted her first: "Miss is back? Mr. Xu couldn't get away from his business here, so he just went to make a brief appearance and will be right back. The old lady is looking for you, so please go ahead."
Xu Yicong agreed and walked past him out of the elevator. Xu Huansi didn't say anything, but she suddenly turned back and said to him, "Are you busy on Saturday? Xu Weicheng is coming over on Saturday, so don't come to the hospital."
Secretary Li's expression was as if she'd seen a ghost; she immediately turned to look at Xu Huansi. Xu Huansi lowered his head and pondered for a second, completely missing the point, then raised an eyebrow and asked her, "You called him here?"
Xu Yicong nodded. "I asked him to come. So you don't need to come."
Xu Huansi didn't respond, seemingly still processing the words "I called him here".
Xu Yicong said, "The news leaked out before his studio was even built. The company was deliberately blocking his path, and there were problems with his team and advertisers. He didn't say any of this, but I really dislike it when people use such methods against him. Were you the one who leaked the news for him?"
Secretary Li hesitated for a moment, but Xu Huansi raised the corners of his lips, seemingly admiring her intelligence, and readily admitted, "It's me."
Xu Yicong also admired his straightforwardness and willingness to admit his mistakes. She continued, "Xu Huansi, it's your business if you don't like him, but he's the one I chose, do you understand? I want to live a serious life with this person. What you think is not important. I hope you will stop targeting him, and I also hope you won't come to the hospital on Saturday."
As she spoke, the elevator busily descended and then climbed back up, its metal doors dinging as it opened. Before stepping into the elevator, Xu Huansi promised her, "Okay. I won't deal with him."
Grandma had just finished her IV drip and hadn't fallen asleep yet. Xu Yicong walked into the ward, leaned over the bed, and told her, "Didn't you want to see a big star? He's coming this Saturday."
Grandma smiled sleepily, and before falling asleep, she pinched her cheek, saying, "Your grandpa will be very happy."
She waited until her grandmother fell asleep, then tiptoed out. Xu Li peeked out from the other end of the corridor, "Xu Huanyi, don't rush home yet. The experts have arrived. Go and call the Japanese translator over before you leave."
Xu Yicong often took meeting minutes for her teachers, so she was no stranger to this kind of scene. Instinctively, she walked over there, since it was related to her major, and she planned to help out. But unexpectedly, Xu Li also thought she was causing trouble, ruffled her hair, and pushed her out, saying, "You've turned into a little panda. I'll be fine here. Everyone else, go home and sleep. Xu Huanyi, take Congcong home first."
Xu Huanyi led the translator over with one hand and Xu Yicong away with the other. "Don't worry, the consultant fees are expensive. You get what you pay for. They are all real experts. We won't miss you."
His aunt and Du Ji were waiting downstairs. He was very anxious, fearing that some kind of mother-in-law/daughter-in-law romance might happen. He pulled Xu Yicong away. At the same time, two doctors from the hospital were about to enter the conference room, holding materials and pens, and were discussing the patient's condition in hushed tones. Xu Yicong was probably sleepy and confused. When she saw the doctors coming over, she didn't know what she was thinking, but she stepped back. However, her shoulder bumped into the doctor, and the materials in the doctor's arms fell to the ground.
Xu Yicong stood still for half a second, then quickly apologized and bent down to pick up the materials. The doctor, for some reason, was also quite flustered, squatting down to gather the materials, saying, "It's alright, I'll do it! I'll do it!"
Xu Li quickly pulled her up. Xu Yicong only had time to pick up the doctor's pen and whispered, "Uncle, why is he so nervous? Did he write in his diary on the medical record?"
There were only a few sheets of paper, and it fell face down, but the doctor still broke out in a cold sweat. Xu Yicong, however, hadn't seen anything. She calmly returned the pen to him, saying, "Your pen."
Xu Li breathed a sigh of relief. "Alright, let's go back, eat something, and then go to sleep."
Xu Yicong was very well-behaved and waved to him, "Goodbye."
The entire floor had been booked out, and the corridor remained empty. For the first time, Xu Yicong felt that the place was so empty that even her footsteps echoed. The image of that pen kept replaying in her mind: a white frosted plastic handle, probably a custom-made stationery item from the organization, with "Ninghe Pharmaceutical" written on it in blue sans-serif lettering.
The moment those four words caught her eye, many previously unnoticed details came flooding back to her memories. For example, during her sophomore year, she once helped her advisor mail a stack of letters, one of which was addressed to the office building of a certain department at Ninghe Pharmaceutical. Another example was at a club gathering, where her senior was gossiping about industry news: Ninghe had opened a new business line, a medical testing institution, registered under the name Ninghua.

Today is another melodramatic family drama.
P.S. My PC VPN has been failing lately, so I'm updating on my phone. And then I keep forgetting to come up with a title. Sorry!
