"The Blooming of Glory" - Chapter Fifteen: She Will Never Be Yours

Chu Heng and Du Dingfeng had just sat down confidently in the shareholders' meeting room when Sheng Hong walked in with a radiant smile. He smiled politely at the two of them and then sat down directly in the chairman's seat in the middle. "I'm sorry I'm late."
Du Dingfeng stood up abruptly, his belly jiggling. "Sheng Hong, what do you mean? Who gave you that position? The voting hasn't even started yet!" The old man used to always talk about how amazing Chu Shuyang was, how he was inferior to him, and how he shouldn't oppose Chu Shuyang. But now he's won, and Chu Shuyang is still in prison.
Sheng Hong arrogantly spun around in his chair, scanning the room and taking in everyone's expressions. Then he tapped the table. "Hasn't the chairman of the Chu Group always been the person with the largest shareholding? Am I mistaken?"
“It’s an election,” Du Dingfeng retorted, then glanced at the others present and noticed that the shareholders who had initially agreed to the terms had all changed slightly. His heart skipped a beat.
Chu Heng glanced at the room, stood up, and asked in a deep voice, "I wonder how many Chu Group shares you have, Mr. Sheng?"
"I am not very talented, but I hold exactly 18%, which makes me the person with the most shares besides Chu Shuyang who is currently in prison." Sheng Hong raised his eyes slightly with a hint of pride.
"Impossible? How could you have so many?" Du Dingfeng exclaimed in surprise, as even the combined resources of the Du family amounted to less than 4%.
Sheng Hong inwardly scoffed at him, "Your wife, Jiao Ruyan, is mine. What's impossible?" He calmly nodded and looked at everyone present, "So, I think no one has any objections to me becoming the chairman of the Chu Group, right?"
"Wait a minute." Before he could finish speaking, Chu Heng interrupted, "I have an objection. I personally own 15.1% of the shares in the Chu Group, and my uncle owns 3.3%. Together, that's just a little more than President Sheng." After he finished speaking, he looked at Sheng Hong, who seemed to think he had everything under control, with an arrogant and slightly mocking expression.
"Yes, yes!" Du Dingfeng nodded hurriedly, almost forgetting the news Chu Heng had told him that morning.
"Impossible." Sheng Hong gritted his teeth, his voice filled with anger. Where exactly did things go wrong? Had Jiao Ruyan lied to him? Or had Luo Rongjing lied to him?
Just as they were arguing, Du Yue pushed open the door and said anxiously, "Dad, something bad has happened! Chu's stock is being sold off continuously, and the stock price keeps falling."
"What?" Sheng Hong shook off Du Dingfeng's hand, snatched the computer from Du Yue's hand, and stared incredulously at the plummeting stock price chart. He shouted wildly, "How is this possible?"
Du Dingfeng and Chu Heng disregarded everything else and rushed forward in a panic, staring at the constantly pulsating waves, their hearts seemingly pounding along with them.
"Can we close the market right now?" Chu Heng asked, glancing at the screen.
"Impossible." Du Yue shook his head helplessly. "We'll have to wait until it hits the daily limit down or the market closes at the designated time."
Looking at Sheng Hong and Du Dingfeng's expressions, Chu Heng knew he was telling the truth. Suddenly, he thought of something and grabbed Du Dingfeng's hand expectantly, "Uncle, if we buy in now, just like when Chu Shuyang was imprisoned last time, the stock will only experience slight fluctuations."
Sheng Hong suddenly looked up at him, praying as if he were dying that he could be brought back to life.
“It won’t work.” Under their expectant gazes, Du Dingfeng shook his head and said dejectedly, “The last purchase used up all of Du’s available funds, and Du’s is now just an empty shell.”
The three of them sat back down dejectedly, watching helplessly as the stock price continued to fall.
For seven consecutive days, Chu's stock continued to fall, and news of its dissolution and bankruptcy followed. The economic investigation team also intervened, and the stock exchange suspended trading. Only a handful of people remained in the entire Chu building, as many employees had already resigned and left.
Sheng Hong, Du Dingfeng, and Chu Heng slumped in the conference room, staring at the straight line on the screen that kept sliding down, and hadn't made a sound for a long time.
Then, with a loud "bang!", the heavy conference room door was pushed open. Several men in police uniforms walked in, showed their police identification, and pulled out a document. "Sheng Hong, you are suspected of conspiring with Jiao Ruhui more than 20 years ago to murder Ms. Du Jingjing and illegally misappropriate Lu's funds. This is an arrest warrant."
"What?" Sheng Hong opened his mouth.
"Take him away." The young man at the front waved his hand, and the policemen behind him pulled out handcuffs. The two of them dragged him away. No one paid any attention to the clanging sound behind them.
"Uncle! Uncle!" Chu Heng frantically squatted down in front of Du Dingfeng, patting his face, only to see him foaming at the mouth and trembling uncontrollably, completely unconscious.
Chu Heng watched as the tall, robust man entered the room. He walked with an air of ease, as if this weren't a prison but his home. He casually sat down opposite him, not even raising his eyes. He was a stark contrast to Chu Heng's current disheveled appearance; it was hard to tell who looked like they were in prison.
Chu Heng swallowed his fear of him and asked with concern, "Are you doing well in prison?" Seeing that the man ignored him and seemed to have struggled for a long time, he looked into the man's eyes and asked casually, "Did you give Rong Jing the shares?"
Seeing that the man's eyelids seemed to lift slightly, he continued, "You gave her 10%, why so much? Was it because you transferred it to her when she was pregnant?"
The man's face remained expressionless, with a faint hint of mockery. Chu Heng scratched his knees, his throat dry and sore. He seemed unconcerned by the man's reply, muttering, "Why has Rong Jing's bedroom in the Chu residence been moved to the third floor? Didn't you forbid others from going up there? Is it because other parts of the Chu residence have been renovated?"
Chu Shuyang finally opened her eyes, raised her head, and gazed at him quietly with her deep eyes, as if Chu Heng saw his reflection in them. This startled Chu Heng, who stumbled back a large step, nearly tipping over his chair and causing the table in front of him to rattle. He slowly stood up, staring into Chu Shuyang's dark eyes, his mouth agape, but his voice wasn't loud. He repeated, his mouth opening and closing, "What's wrong? What's wrong?" He started with a respectful address, but the rest was utterly incoherent.
He knelt down under Chu Shuyang's calm gaze, suddenly clutching his head and gasping for breath. After a long while, he lowered his hands, his eyes red and filled with tears, leaned forward onto the table, and stared at Chu Shuyang, asking, "Did you force her?"
"Yes." Chu Shuyang finally opened her mouth to reply.
But he would rather Chu Shuyang remained silent. Enraged, he grabbed Chu Shuyang's collar and threw a punch straight at his face, only to be easily caught by Chu Shuyang, who held him motionless. Chu Shuyang coldly replied, "You don't deserve it." With that, she shoved him aside, giving him a fleeting glance, the contempt and disregard in her eyes clear to him.
Chu Heng thought about all the things he had done to Luo Rongjing after their marriage, all the lies he had told. He gave a bleak smile, tears welling up in his eyes. He wiped his face, slumped into a chair, and after a long while, finally spoke, his voice thick with emotion, "So you deliberately let me hear those things outside the study? To lure me in?"
"No." Chu Shuyang straightened his clothes, his voice low and tinged with anger. "I brought you here because of something else. Xiao Jing was almost hit and killed a while ago. The mastermind was Tian Ruhuan, and the accomplice was Jiao Ruhui."
"What? Rong Jing was in a car accident?" Chu Heng was startled, almost jumping out of his chair again. He didn't have time to consider his emotions. He asked repeatedly, "How come I didn't know? And if Tian Ruhuan didn't say anything, how could it be my aunt?"
Chu Shuyang scoffed, "I heard Jiao Ruhui attempted suicide. You can go to the hospital and ask her yourself."
Chu Heng clenched his fists, looking embarrassed. "I'll go to the hospital and ask her. So, Tian Ruhuan's disappearance is because of this? And since I came back from America, you've been deliberately arranging for me to go on business trips?" Although he was asking, he already had the answer in his heart.
"And I am indeed not a son of the Chu family?"
"No." Chu Shuyang answered him with rare kindness, "Back then, your mother was pregnant out of wedlock. The Du family was preparing to form a marriage alliance with the Zhu family in the political arena. How could Master Du allow this matter to be leaked? So, seeing that I was struggling to take over the Chu family when I first started, Master Du kindly made a deal with me."
Chu Heng stared at the man before him with complicated emotions. His maternal grandfather had made a deal with him, but within two years, he had swallowed up the Du family's European and American markets. Moreover, after Old Master Du's death, he almost swept away the Du family's businesses, suppressing the Du family for decades.
"You deliberately set a trap for me and the Du family. When Chu's stock fluctuated while you were in prison, you made us divert all our funds to buy Chu's stock. In the end, you colluded with the Dong and Lu families to sell off all our shares, leaving them worthless now," Chu Heng muttered, but he still didn't understand why Chu Shuyang was doing this.
“Actually, you don’t have to fall into the trap, as long as you’re not greedy.” Chu Shuyang glanced at him, then remembered something and a gentle smile appeared on her face. “The Dong family and the Lu family weren’t arranged by me, they were arranged by Xiao Jing.”
Chu Heng seemed not to have heard him clearly. He opened his eyes wide and stared at him intently, wanting to know if what he said was true.
Chu Shuyang smiled gently, a hint of pride on his face. "Sheng Hong threatened her. You hurt her before, how could she let you get away with it? After Sheng Hong invited her for tea, she started plotting. Look at her now, Sheng Hong's imprisonment, though not part of her plan, means her dream of becoming the chairman of the Chu Group is impossible. And you, she traded my and Sheng Hong's shares for the divorce papers she wanted most. What a cunning little fox." He lingered on his lips for the last sentence, making sure the person opposite him couldn't hear it.
Chu Heng felt that they weren't talking about the same Luo Rongjing; that naive woman couldn't possibly be her. But then he seemed to recall the last time he saw her, and she seemed completely changed. He frowned and muttered, "We deserve it, but what about you? You just watched the Chu family go bankrupt?"
Chu Shuyang was in a very good mood at the moment, and he explained without hesitation, "After the Chu family goes bankrupt, Yuan Shuo will arrange for Rongyang Group, headquartered in Switzerland, to take over everything and reorganize it. In addition, all the former employees of the Chu family will go to Rongyang Group, and their salaries will be doubled."
Chu Heng listened blankly, his voice sounding as if it wasn't his own, "Rong Jing also knows about your arrangements?"
Chu Shuyang shook his head, but the joy and pride in his eyes were obvious to everyone. He was delighted by the tacit understanding between him and Luo Rongjing. Luo Rongjing seemed to have anticipated that Chu Shuyang wouldn't be without a backup plan, which was why she dared to boldly short-sell the Chu Group. And indeed, as she predicted, Chu Shuyang followed in her footsteps and perfectly cleaned up the mess for her. He was proud that this woman was his, and that no matter what, she would ultimately be his.
Chu Heng felt a sting from the look on his face. He sneered, "She won't be yours. Don't forget, you forced her. She hates you too much to even think about it."
He noticed that Chu Shuyang seemed to frown slightly, but his expression remained unchanged. Then, as if he suddenly realized something, he pointed at Chu Shuyang incredulously and said, "You did it on purpose, you deliberately let Rong Jing get that document."
Chu Shuyang finally gave him an approving look. He stood up and walked past the stunned Chu Heng. He said, "As a reward for bringing her to the Chu family, here's a piece of advice: don't trust anyone, unless it's the one you love most."
Chu Heng collapsed to his feet, watching his already departing figure, and chased after him out the door, shouting at the top of his lungs, "Chu Shuyang! She won't be yours! She can't be with you! Chu Shuyang..."
