Rural Romance: The Shameful Green Hat - Chapter 57: Did Your Sister-in-Law Sleep at Your House?

When the dew was still on the tips of the leaves, Chen Wu and Hei Zi arrived at the fields. It was the off-season for farming, and the rice seedlings in the paddy fields were being pulled up one after another.
Hei Zi casually picked up a few horseshoe crabs from the rice paddy and played with them in his hand. These things were big, with shells that looked like they came from the mainland. Some were as big as half the size of a baby's hand, and they swam around in a rather strange way.

Chen Wu first used a hoe to dig open the ditch beside the wall, letting some water in, and then sealed it with mud. He took off his shoes and socks, rolled up his trousers, and stepped into the ditch. "Watch this, come down with me. That's the head of the ditch, we'll start sealing it from here."
Hei Zi jumped in with a splash, creating a huge wave. "Brother Mingzhi scolded Sister-in-law Liniang for being shameless, saying that she used to be with you, but now that you've risen to prominence, she's gone back to you."
Hei Zi used his hands to lift a large chunk of mud from the mud embankment and threw it in. "Wow, there really are fish! Look, Brother Xiao Wu!"
Hei Zi shouted loudly at Chen Wu from a bubbling spot.
"Be gentle, once we catch them, I'll give you a few, and your grandma will make you some soup. It'll taste absolutely delicious."
Chen Wu tamped the soil firmly. The fish in these ditches all came from the reservoir, and they seemed rather silly when no one was catching them. Hei Zi stomped on the mud, making it firm, and then started scooping water out with a bucket. Chen Wu was somewhat taken aback. When Brother Mingzhi and Liniang left, no one could tell they had a conflict. But Hei Zi's words implied that Brother Mingzhi and Liniang had a long-standing grudge. Otherwise, based on Chen Wu's understanding of Mingzhi and Liniang, neither of them would have spoken so vulgarly. After all, Mingzhi was a teacher, and Liniang had seen the world and was well-traveled; even the villagers praised Liniang for her eloquence.
"What else did they say?" Chen Wu asked calmly, scooping water with the bucket even faster.
"Anything else?" Kuroko scratched his head with his muddy hands. "If there's anything else, I'm going to sleep."
