Urban Romance - Chapter 1938: Returning to Donglai

When Li Weijie woke up the next day, he couldn't remember what happened after that. He vaguely remembered having sex with Chu Feiya and ejaculating, but he had no recollection of whether he ejaculated inside Li Mengdie or Chu Feiya. Was it intermittent amnesia? When he asked Li Mengdie and Chu Feiya, they both refused to say anything, remaining mysterious. It wasn't until much later that Li Weijie finally solved the mystery.
Chu Feiya had to take Li Mengdie on a business trip abroad because of a sudden company matter. The time spent in Hong Kong had already been long enough. After agreeing on a time to meet again, Li Weijie decided to head back to the mainland.
Chu Feiya was a decisive person and immediately arranged the itinerary. Li Weijie helped pack the luggage, but when Li Weijie saw that she also put that huge double-headed phallus into the suitcase, he was really shocked.
After getting off the plane, Li Weijie didn't go home. Instead, he went to Yu Jingjing's house. He took a taxi and drove around and around until he was almost out of the city before he finally found Yu Jingjing's house.
This area was originally a rural area, but it was designated as a city after planning and expansion. Now it is considered a peri-urban area.
Yu Jingjing's house was easy to spot because there were many wreaths at the entrance. Yu Jingjing was standing at the door dressed in plain clothes. When Li Weijie saw her for the first time, he felt a pang of pain in his heart. He hadn't seen her for only a few days, and the little girl had become so thin!
Li Weijie walked up to Yu Jingjing and said softly, "Jingjing, please accept my condolences."
Yu Jingjing looked up and saw that it was Li Weijie. She immediately threw herself into Li Weijie's arms and began to sob.
There weren't many people who came to pay their respects, and the entire funeral hall was deserted. Almost everyone who came was a neighbor, and most of them were just there to watch the spectacle.
Yu Jingjing's family was not well-off; their house was neither new nor old. Li Weijie thought to himself: If her family lived in a high-rise mansion, there would be many more people coming to pay their respects than there are today.
Ah, people! Sigh...
Two men walked over, nodded to Li Weijie, and said, "Brother Li, you've arrived!"
Li Weijie was taken aback for a moment, then suddenly remembered who they were, and nodded to them, saying, "Lu Gang asked you to come and help, right? Thank you so much for these past two days!"
A man in his twenties hurriedly waved to Li Weijie, who was flattered by Li Weijie's approachable manner.
Yu Jingjing led Li Weijie to the side room.
The room was dark, and Li Weijie felt a little uncomfortable when he first entered, thinking that no one was there. After a while, he saw the old man sitting by the bed.
He told Yu Jingjing to go about her business, then walked to the old man's side and softly called out, "Uncle, I've come to see you. Please accept my condolences!"
The old man turned to look at Li Weijie, nodded, put the photo he had been holding on the bed, and then stood up and went to the table to pour him a glass of water.
Li Weijie took the water, helped the old man sit down, sighed, and said, "Uncle, just tell me what's wrong. Don't treat me like an outsider."
The old man suddenly looked up at him and asked, "Do you have a cigarette?"
Li Weijie quickly took out a cigarette and lit one for the old man.
The old man took a puff of his cigarette and immediately started coughing.
Li Weijie quickly snatched the cigarette from him, patted his back and said, "Uncle, don't be sad. From now on, I'm your son. I'll take care of everything!"
The old man coughed for a while, then gradually calmed down. He smiled at Li Weijie and said, "I'm not sad. I haven't been sad for a long time. It's good that you're gone. I'm relieved now that you're gone! Thank you, young man, you're a good person."
Li Weijie gave a bitter laugh. What kind of good person was he? He just liked someone's daughter, but hadn't made a move yet. What kind of good person was that?
At this moment, Yu Jingjing came in and said to them, "The time has come; it's time for the funeral."
Li Weijie helped the old man slowly walk out of the courtyard. At the old man's signal, several strong men lifted the coffin from the mourning hall and slowly walked it out.
Xiao Feng's death was not natural, and according to their customs, it shouldn't be celebrated in a grand manner. So, without any delay, they carried the coffin directly up Xishan Mountain.
Xishan is an earthen hill, and also a burial hill. Halfway up the hill is a deep pit, which was dug in advance as a dwelling place for Xiaofeng.
As the coffin was lowered into the ground, the old man stretched out his hand and gestured to him.
Li Weijie understood, thought for a moment, and then took out a cigarette and handed it to him, lighting it for him.
The old man took a drag of his cigarette, this time without coughing, then walked two steps up the hill and sat down beside a grave mound above the pit. He murmured, "Old woman, I've brought my son over! I know you're feeling lonely over there, so I sent him to keep you company. Don't blame me, if it weren't for my daughter, I would have come to find you too! Wait for me, once our daughter is settled, I'll come down to find you!"
Upon hearing this, Yu Jingjing cried out through tears, "Dad!"
He was unable to speak any more.
Li Weijie walked over and patted Yu Jingjing on the shoulder. She covered her mouth and looked at him with teary eyes, but didn't move.
Her appearance broke Li Weijie's heart, but this was Xiaofeng's resting place, and Li Weijie could not do anything disrespectful to the deceased. He could only watch helplessly as Yu Jingjing grieved.
After finishing his cigarette, the old man slowly stood up, picked up a shovel from the ground, scooped up some soil, his arm trembling slightly, his chest heaving violently, and suddenly shouted: "Bury!"
They then poured soil onto the coffin in the pit.
Yu Jingjing immediately shouted, "Xiao Feng!"
She then squatted on the ground and burst into tears.
Upon hearing the order, the hired men all raised their shovels, and dust flew everywhere. In less than the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Xiao Feng's coffin was nowhere to be seen.
Looking at the newly erected grave in front of him, Li Weijie held Yu Jingjing, who was crying so hard she was completely exhausted, feeling extremely distressed.
In this life, people are busy with fame and fortune, but in the end, they are nothing more than a small mound of earth, and they can't take anything with them. What's the point?
Li Weijie spent the afternoon talking with Yu Jingjing and her father. Only after seeing that their emotions had stabilized did he get up and go home.
After arriving home, Li Weijie didn't eat dinner; he just took a shower early and went to bed.
The following days were busy and fulfilling. Time flew by, and the New Year was fast approaching. Thanks to everyone's joint efforts, the company's business had improved slightly. Several small companies had already reached agreements with them and were preparing to purchase their barrier system after the New Year.
The hard work finally paid off, and of course everyone was happy.
With the year-end approaching and nothing much happening at the company, Li Yuan decided to give everyone a holiday so they could prepare to go home for the New Year. To reward everyone for their hard work over the past six months, she gave each person a large red envelope, including Zhang Ke and others, making everyone beam with joy.
In the following days, Wang Dongjin, Xiao Cao and others left one after another.
Zhang Ke and Xue Yufeng also went back to their hometowns for the Spring Festival. Others either left or were busy, and Li Weijie's house became quiet for a while.
Of course, this "cold and aloof" refers to the people in the company, you know what I mean.
Although this is Li Yuan and Qin Hailan's first Spring Festival after graduation, neither of them plans to go home for the New Year. Li Weijie knows that they are afraid that he will be lonely and bored here alone, but in fact, he is not lonely at all!
Li Weijie tried to persuade them many times, but the two only smiled and remained silent, so he had no choice but to let them be.
It suddenly started snowing on New Year's Eve. In the evening, Li Nanfeng called to invite them to his house for dinner, and they gladly accepted.
The road was covered with a thick layer of snow, and Li Yuan drove very slowly. When the car reached a bend near Li Nanfeng's villa, a man covered in snow and looking distraught suddenly rushed out from the street corner.
Li Yuan reacted quickly, slamming on the brakes and turning the car around. Li Weijie and Qin Hailan didn't even have time to rub their foreheads as they crashed heavily into the front seats.
They quickly got out of the car to check on him. Fortunately, the man had only been knocked down by the car and was not seriously injured.
Li Yuan helped the man up from the ground and said apologetically, "Sir, I'm so sorry. How are you? Are you alright? Should we go to the hospital for a check-up?"
The man didn't react at all, as if he hadn't been hit. By the light of the car headlights, Li Weijie immediately recognized him as the man who had rescued Li Nanfeng on their first day at the Tianming Group headquarters. What a small world, they'd run into each other again here.
"Uncle, do you still recognize me?" Li Weijie walked up to him.
The man slowly raised his head and stared blankly at Li Weijie. From his eyes, Li Weijie could clearly feel the helplessness and despair that shook his soul.
Qin Hailan clearly recognized him as well, and quietly told Li Yuan about their ordeal.
Li Weijie reminded him, "Uncle, think about it, we met at Tianming Group."
The man's facial muscles twitched slightly when he heard "Tianming Group," and he looked at Li Weijie for a while before recognizing him: "Young man, it's you."
Li Weijie held his hand; his hand was so cold, he must have been outside for a long time.
"Uncle, I'm so sorry for bumping into you. Are you feeling any discomfort?"
The man shook his head.
"Uncle, you're here to see Li Nanfeng, right? Why don't we go in together?"
Li Weijie's words seemed to touch a raw nerve. He suddenly squatted down, buried his face in his hands, and burst into tears. He was stunned, not knowing what he had said wrong. But Li Weijie knew that a man would only cry out in such grief when he was truly heartbroken and desperate.
Seeing this, Li Yuan and Qin Hailan rushed over and asked him, "Weijie, what happened?"
Li Weijie shrugged, looking completely bewildered.
Li Yuan squatted down and gently comforted him, "Uncle, tell us what's troubling you. We'll definitely help if we can."
The man seemed to be venting all the pain in his chest. It took him a long time to stop sobbing, wipe away his tears, and choke out, "Good girl, I'm so sorry you had to see this. You are all good people. I, I, sigh!"
“Uncle, look, there are no outsiders here. My name is Li Yuan. You’ve met these two before. His name is Lin Weijie, and her name is Qin Hailan. If you have any problems, just tell us. Keeping them to yourself won’t solve anything. Tell us and we’ll see if we can help you.”
Qin Hailan gently brushed the snow off the man and said tenderly, "Yes, Uncle, Sister Yuan is right. If you tell us, we might be able to help you. It's cold outside, so why don't we go back to the car first?"
Back in the car, Li Yuan quickly turned the heater on full blast. Then, all three of them stared at him. The man sighed heavily before recounting a sad story from his past.
