I need your help. Is this a dead end with no solution?

Oh no! The photos and videos I took of my wife that I saved on my external hard drive were encrypted with NTFS. And then, damn it, I didn't know the backup key! My hard drive crashed, I had to reinstall the system, and now I can't access anything I saved before. A year's worth of hard work! I'm devastated!
