Around 1996, I started using the internet. At that time, our office had just been equipped with a Lenovo computer, used only for word processing without internet access. I had extraordinary patience for that. Later, I learned that I could chat online, but I couldn't type. What to do? Learn. I gained a lot from chatting primarily in local chat rooms and with other local chat rooms (more details later). The chat partners back then were very genuine; there were no scams or anything like that. The internet changed people's thoughts and lives like a flood. I never imagined I could talk about "happy things" online; the allure was immense, and staying up all night was commonplace. At that time, very few people had webcams or knew how to use them, and video instant messaging software was also scarce. I borrowed one from someone. Through asking questions and self-study, I learned that NetMeeting could do voice and video, but it was rather complicated. You needed to know the other person's IP address to make a connection, and many people didn't know how to find their IP address, so I had to teach them. Due to the poor interconnectivity between different internet service providers, I often spent a lot of time trying to connect, for example, China Telecom's network was extremely difficult to connect to. Despite this, the few successful connections I made brought me immense joy. I realized that you could see such wonderful content in voice and video chat, revealing your true self, primal desires—the excitement, the thrill, everyone understands.
