Wife Swapping Diary 2

To gather information and market trends before the New York Stock Exchange opened, Wang Zhengfang would get up around 4 a.m. every day to turn on his computer and check news and analyses on various financial websites. Of course, the first thing he did after getting up was to check the market value of all the stocks in his accounts from the previous day. His accounts had grown astonishingly, increasing fifty to sixty times compared to when he first opened them a year ago. Seeing such explosive growth naturally made him extremely proud, and he often thought that if acquaintances knew, they would consider it a remarkable achievement. However, he knew very well that with limited initial capital, even using various methods and strategies to multiply his capital so many times over was still not enough to make him stand out from his peers. Recognition of achievement depended on the amount of money involved, and in the current situation, unless it reached tens of millions, no one would pay attention to him.
In the current market conditions, many people who speculate in stocks achieve similar returns, which isn't exactly a remarkable achievement. The market prospects brought by internet and technology stocks have caused the stock market to soar exponentially, although those who actually participate know it's not easy. There are still too many success stories, and everyone knows they relied on unconventional methods to multiply their wealth. Compared to those who genuinely speculate, they are just small fry. Newspaper reports on Wall Street's new rich and analysts, whose incomes are even more staggering.
Everyone now believes that times have changed, the new economy is taking off, and people urgently need to seize today's opportunities. Furthermore, the meaning of making money is different from the past; any listed or unlisted internet company can easily accumulate unimaginable wealth in a very short time.
People need to earn more and more money just to barely catch up with a small slice of the pie of one of the tech giants. All past achievements seem insignificant overnight. Investors are no longer as concerned about tax differences as they used to be, because making money is easy, and they no longer care about the costs; consumption habits have changed, and they have more disposable
income. Under these circumstances, Wang Zhengfang cannot consider himself to have made money, let alone accept that he has become wealthy. The only consolation and somewhat decent thing is that he was able to squeeze into this frenzied, soaring market. He is fortunate to be one of the very few lucky ones in this surging stock market.
Of course, it's nothing special, and certainly not something worth striving for. While it can't compare to the legendary stock market magnates, it's impossible not to feel a surge of pride. Moreover, thinking of the countless others less fortunate than him, a secret smugness is naturally irresistible. There's really no need to compare oneself to legendary figures. What's in your basket is most valuable. However, once you've made money, you want to grab more; in reality, the more you hold onto it, the less it feels weighty. You have to keep digging in.
Seeing the entire society and the nation's wealth seemingly poured into the securities, mutual funds, and bond markets, the public felt that money was easily within reach. He increasingly felt his own earnings were growing too slowly, becoming more and more impatient, investing all his capital without reservation,
rushing forward with all his might when the opportunity arose, only stopping when he had made his fill. However, this haste quickly brought his good fortune away, and he felt he was making numerous operational errors, though these were all minor. He believed the opportunity would come again, and he couldn't afford to miss it.
Although the current success was due to favorable circumstances, Wang Zhengfang's past losses made him not only cautious and wary, but also determined to devise unconventional methods. His past experiences made him skeptical of conventional methods and he had long understood the cutthroat competition, no longer willing to blindly plunge in. Before throwing himself into the stock market, Wang Zhengfang had been unemployed for quite some time. Initially, because he had no job, he planned to see if he could earn some income, partly to save face and partly to show his wife, friends, and relatives that he was busy making money. It could also be said that the common human tendency to gamble and place bets led him to disregard his wife's objections and prefer to engage in activities close to gambling rather than take any more regular work.
Later, when he actually started earning income from it, he became even more confident, further proving that this was his job, not just idleness. The more money he earned, the more confident he became; his relaxed and carefree job was far more prestigious than his wife's professional accounting career. Furthermore, what he was most satisfied with was finally catching the stock market boom. Although not a tech person from the computer age, by riding the wave of the internet age stock market, he could feel the same prestige as those in the computer tech world, and participate in the same financial frenzy. Moreover, he no longer felt like a marginal figure in modern technology, because he was now an investor in the latest cutting-edge industries such as fiber optics and biotechnology. The
fact that Wang Zhengfang and his wife had no children and a light family burden was the main reason he could still live so freely and casually at this point. He originally worked as a freelance photojournalist for magazines, providing photographic works for Taiwanese or local newspapers and magazines, or taking on assigned jobs, going to specific locations or events to take a bunch of photos and send them back to the magazines.
The ups and downs of the stock market are more thrilling and risky than playing blackjack in Las Vegas. My passion is my work, demanding my full attention. Even if my old job came knocking, I wouldn't take it. So much time spent earning such a meager amount of money, all that effort spent rushing around, taking photos, washing, and cleaning. It was like a life-or-death struggle.
Money may not have brought any real meaning to life, but it certainly felt fulfilling, and living like this felt more real. Time flies by even faster, each day spent staring at the stock market screen. Yet the feeling of the struggle is solidly filling my being, abundantly occupying every moment of each day. All my emotions are governed by the stock market. Of course, victories on the football field provide another kind of numbing effect to life. I can feel the joy wash over me from time to time.
Although Wang Zhengfang lived a life of ease, Zhang Jingyuan didn't approve, saying, "You don't work, you sit at home all day, what man does that?"
"Investing in stocks is a legitimate business, what's wrong with that? What era are we living in? Doing business from home is the natural trend." "
That's not doing business." "Does it only count if you have to go to a job and clock in to earn money? Living by investing is just being lazy, isn't that too much like the Communist Party? You're an accountant yourself, how could you say that to me?"
Because of his feelings for Shen Luxue, Wang Zhengfang deliberately avoided contact with his wife at home. Although nothing had actually happened, and he felt no guilt, he didn't want his inner turmoil to be revealed to Zhang Jingyuan. He didn't mention the chance encounter with her classmate at the basketball court that day, nor did he feel guilty. He
woke up from a dream that night, and in the dream, he was with Shen Luxue, not exactly intimate, but close enough. In the fragmented dreamscape, he returned to a time he had never experienced before, a time he even dreamed about. With his head resting on the bed railing, he reminisced about the past. Zhang Jingyuan, who lived in a separate room, was already asleep. He silently recalled the scenes from the dream without any restraint. His thoughts kept lingering on Shen Luxue, feeling sad and heartbroken, and wondering if he had fallen in love with her.
"No," he stammered, avoiding a direct acknowledgment; "I admire the Shen Luxue of the past. If I have a romantic partner, it is someone from the past."
