Not long after she sat down, Eunuch An and the palace maids served her pastries and fruits. Emperor Xuli used a bamboo skewer to pick up the first cherry and brought it to her lips. Mingruo opened her mouth. Actually, she wasn't very hungry because she had eaten a lot before going to bed. But when the fresh, juicy, red cherry was at her lips, she couldn't resist the temptation and took a bite.
Sweet and juicy, with a perfect balance of sweet and sour, it was truly delicious. Mingruo unconsciously licked the remaining juice from the corner of her mouth, blinking her bright eyes as she looked into the fruit plate, hoping that Emperor Xuli would feed her again.
A delicate pink tongue swirled away the red juice, the two shades of red blending together to create an indescribable beauty and allure. Long, slender fingers lifted her slightly rounded chin and gently kissed her. Mingruo was waiting to eat more cherries, but not only did he refuse to give her any, he even tried to pluck out the ones she had already eaten. Her small hands pressed against Xu Lidi's chest, heaving rhythmically. Mingruo found it hard to breathe from the kisses, and when Xu Lidi finally parted her lips, a thin, transparent thread was pulled from their intertwined lips, revealing an endless, lascivious allure.
"I really want to eat you up," he said in a low voice, his breathing heavy and his tone hoarse, as if he was trying his best to hold back something. Mingruo blushed and glanced around out of the corner of her eye to make sure no one dared to look before she breathed a sigh of relief, regained her composure, and even felt like throwing a tantrum: "You've already eaten me." He practically wanted to devour her alive, okay?
"Heh." Sensing the displeasure in her tone, Emperor Xuli chuckled, kissed her cheek, and forked a cherry over her. This time, Mingruo was very nervous. She glanced at Emperor Xuli first, making sure he wouldn't have another chance to snatch it, before quickly swallowing it. Emperor Xuli found her extremely flustered and adorable, and was about to tease her when Eunuch An came to report: "Your Majesty, Minister of War, Lord Lü, requests an audience and is waiting in the Imperial Study."
His thick eyebrows rose: "What's he doing here?"
"This..." Eunuch An glanced at Mingruo with some hesitation, "This servant doesn't know either, I only said it's an extremely urgent matter."
Patting Emperor Xuli's chest, Mingruo struggled to jump off his lap: "Since Lord Lü is waiting, Father, you can go over there. I can manage on my own."
"Really?" He raised his eyebrows, half helpless and half doubtful, and touched her little face.
"Then you stay here and wait obediently for your father. Don't run around, and don't eat anything you shouldn't, understand?" His large hand slid from her face to her protruding belly, gently stroking it.
"You and the baby should all stay here obediently and wait for Father to return, okay?"
Mingruo nodded obediently, and he picked her up, ordered a thick blanket to be laid on the stone bench, then placed her on it, kissed her forehead, and turned to leave. Mingruo rested her chin on her hand, watching Emperor Xuli walk away, and yawned slightly. It wasn't because she was sleepy, but simply because she was bored. Looking at the colorful fruits in the fruit platter, she suddenly lost her appetite. Only two palace maids remained to attend to her; the rest were dismissed by Mingruo. Such fine weather… she didn't like having so many people around her at all. Besides, Eunuch An would be back soon; with him serving, there was no need for anyone else.
The thoughtful palace maids had stuck bamboo skewers into each cherry so Mingruo could easily pick them up herself. However, with Emperor Xuli not around, she had no desire to eat them at all. She patted her round belly, tried to stand up and take a few steps, then rested her chin on her hands and giggled. Seeing her in a good mood, the palace maids boldly spoke up to please her.
"Your Majesty, Your Majesty, the Emperor truly dotes on you! These fruits and melons are something that the other ladies in the harem can't enjoy!"
Mingruo was looking out of the pavilion when she was suddenly startled by the envious looks in the eyes of the two palace maids. She pursed her lips, casually picked up a deep purple grape, and popped it into her mouth. "Oh." The other concubines… could you please not mention the other concubines in front of her? "Do you think the Emperor treats me very well?"
"Of course!" The little palace maid's expression was one of undisguised envy and longing.
"Your Majesty is so beautiful, and you are pregnant with the Emperor's child. The Emperor has always been able to do whatever he wants with you, and now he treats you like a precious treasure. Your Majesty, you have no idea how many people in the harem are jealous of you!"
Spitting out the grape skins, Mingruo puffed out her cheeks, about to speak, when a slightly high-pitched voice rang out: "Consort Ming is a beauty of unparalleled grace and fragrance. Not to mention the Emperor, even I would be tempted by her!"
Mingruo frowned and turned to look at the source of the voice, only to find it was the Third Prince. She gazed at him calmly, her expression aloof, much like Emperor Xuli. The Third Prince was momentarily stunned, but lust ultimately prevailed. Ignoring the two palace maids' attempts to stop him, he pushed them aside and walked forward, sitting down directly in front of Mingruo without a word. His dark, murky eyes stared unblinkingly at Mingruo's face as he said, "Your Majesty is truly as beautiful as a fairy. In all my years, I have never seen a woman as beautiful as Your Majesty."
He actually referred to himself as "your subject" to her... Mingruo's brows furrowed even more. She reached out her hand and said to the palace maid, "Help me up."
The palace maids rushed over, but just as they were about to help Mingruo up, the Third Prince slapped them away. Mingruo's outstretched hand was caught in his grasp before she could retract it.
A wave of intense nausea washed over him. Mingruo didn't show much panic, but narrowed his eyes and said coldly, "Third Prince, please have some self-respect."
"Your subject is very self-respecting!" He stared lustfully at her face, his fingers constantly stroking the back of Mingruo's hand.
"Your Majesty is simply too beautiful; I am overjoyed and cannot help myself..."
"Insolence!" she shouted coldly, hardly believing that there could be such a clueless fellow in the world. Even if she weren't the emperor's current favorite concubine, he still couldn't be so shameless as to make advances on her in broad daylight! "I'll say it again, Third Prince, please have some self-respect."
"I'm quite heavy, so... why don't you try, Your Highness?" His gaze became even more infatuated as he looked at Mingruo, and he gripped her hand even tighter. Mingruo felt goosebumps and disgusted by his gaze.
"Your Majesty is so beautiful... If I could have the pleasure of kissing you, I would gladly die."
Mingruo trembled with anger. Just as she was about to speak, a palace maid rushed up, "Third Prince, the Emperor will be back soon. Please show some respect!"
"Trying to scare me with my father's name?" He sneered and slapped two palace maids aside.
"Get out! I'm speaking to the Empress, what right do you have to interrupt!" Ever since that fleeting glimpse that night, he had never forgotten that face of unparalleled beauty. He dreamed of her, ate with her... No other woman could quell the lust in his heart! He swore he would not be human if he did not possess this woman!
