Chapter Twenty-Five of the Ten Scenes Satin

Wen Yuan used his light-footed skill to rush towards Shuiyan Tower. Upon arriving at the Jieyuan Pavilion, Zi Yuan was leaning against the door. Seeing Wen Yuan, she smiled and said, "Young Master Wen, you've arrived so quickly."

Wen Yuan stopped, looked around, and said, "Miss Zi Yuan, don't you need to prepare a carriage?" Zi Yuan smiled and said, "Although I am frail, walking around West Lake is not difficult for me." Wen Yuan smiled and said, "In that case, shall we go now?" Zi Yuan gently closed the pavilion door and smiled, "Alright, let's go!"

The two quietly left Shuiyan Tower and walked side by side towards the lake. Zi Yuan noticed that Wen Yuan was still carrying his seven-stringed zither and was very curious. She asked, "Young Master Wen, do you bring your zither to West Lake?" Wen Yuan smiled and said, "This zither was a gift from a good friend. It is very important to me, so I carry it with me." Zi Yuan smiled and said, "I see. It's a pity I didn't bring my pipa, otherwise we could have played a few tunes on the lake..."

At this point, recalling their past night's duet on the lake, her face flushed slightly.

Soon they arrived at the north bank of West Lake, where a pavilion came into view. A small pavilion overlooked the lake, its pillars adorned with a couplet: "Body amidst the fragrant lotus blossoms, eyes gleaming at the verdant pavilion." On the lake, lotus waves danced in the breeze, their fragrance intoxicating – a scene from one of the Ten Scenes of West Lake, "Lotus Breeze at the Curved Courtyard."

Wen Yuan stepped onto the lotus-viewing corridor, his heart filled with joy, and he spontaneously recited: "After all, West Lake in June is different from the scenery of other seasons..." Zi Yuan slowly walked onto the small bridge among the lotus blossoms, softly continuing: "The lotus leaves stretch to the sky, an endless expanse of green; the lotus blossoms, bathed in sunlight, are a uniquely vibrant red." Each reciting two lines perfectly echoed Yang Wanli's "Leaving Jingci Temple Late to See Lin Zifang Off," and the two exchanged smiles.

The small bridge was built close to the water, and Zi Yuan strolled gracefully among the lotus blossoms, her movements elegant and graceful, truly like a fairy on the water, each step creating a lotus bloom. Wen Yuan gazed into the distance, suddenly feeling a wave of dizziness. He thought to himself, "If Miss Zi Yuan came to West Lake every day, West Lake could be added to the Eleven Scenic Spots. Ah! Shui Yan Tower isn't far from West Lake, so it would be reasonable to include it in the Eleven Scenic Spots as well. However, Shui Yan Tower itself is rather plain, so we can't include the building in the list."

Zi Yuan turned around and saw Wen Yuan looking distracted. She called out, "Young Master Wen!" Startled by her call, Wen Yuan quickly replied, "Yes, I'm here. What's wrong?" Zi Yuan smiled and said, "Young Master, you're a little too engrossed in admiring the scenery, aren't you? These lotus flowers are quite beautiful, aren't they?" Wen Yuan blurted out, "Yes, but while the lotus flowers are beautiful, compared to you, they are inevitably..." He suddenly realized he had let something slip and quickly stopped himself, scratching his head and turning slightly away.

Zi Yuan, quick-witted, understood immediately. Her cheeks flushed, and she approached, whispering, "Then...Young Master Wen, let's go look around elsewhere." Wen Yuan replied, "Alright."

The two walked out of the courtyard, their eyes meeting, both stirred by emotion. Zi Yuan's heart pounded. She tugged at her clothes, her lips parted slightly, as if to say something, but no words came out. Her face reddened, and she walked slowly to the side. Wen Yuan, momentarily lost in thought, followed quietly.

Reaching the Xiling Bridge, they saw a fragrant tomb in the night, the stone tablet inscribed "Tomb of Su Xiaoxiao of Qiantang."

Su Xiaoxiao was a remarkable woman of the Southern Qi Dynasty, untainted by worldly affairs, possessing both beauty and talent.

Zi Yuan stared blankly at the tomb, speechless.

Wen Yuan watched Zi Yuan's slender back, not daring to disturb her. Suddenly, he heard Zi Yuan softly recite: "I ride in an oil-painted carriage, my love rides a green horse... Where shall we pledge our hearts? West Lake... beneath the pines and cypresses..."

The poem was recited in a very low, almost whispered voice, not intended for Wen Yuan to hear, but rather something Zi Yuan unconsciously recited.

Wen Yuan, however, heard it clearly; this poem was Su Xiaoxiao's expression of love to her lover, Ruan Yu. Su Xiaoxiao, riding in an oil-painted carriage, was enjoying the scenery of the lake and mountains when she met Ruan Yu, who arrived on a green horse. They fell in love at first sight, but unfortunately, fate separated them.

Wen Yuan suddenly felt a pang of unease, thinking to himself, "Su Xiaoxiao was a peerless beauty, and although her name has been passed down through the ages, her love affair did not last, and she ultimately could not be considered happy. Such women are rare in ancient times, but Miss Ziyuan, in terms of talent, beauty, and reputation, is certainly no less than her. Could it be that she has also fallen in love while reciting this poem? If so, this cannot be the same as the ending of Su Xiaoxiao and Ruan Yu." He turned to look at the green pine tree by the bridge, and then thought, "I wonder who Miss Ziyuan is interested in?" At this thought, a thought struck him: "Zhao Pingbo is impossible, and that Magistrate Qin doesn't seem like it either. Could it be... could it be... I..."

Ziyuan's heart was also filled with turbulent thoughts. She turned to gaze into Wen Yuan's eyes, a hint of longing in them. Wen Yuan's heart skipped a beat, thinking, "How similar those eyes are to Xiao Yin's and my junior sister's!" He placed his hands on Zi Yuan's shoulders and said, "Miss Zi Yuan, I will save you!"

Zi Yuan gasped softly, her face flushed, and whispered, "That...that won't do. The Prince of Jingwei is going to take me away." Wen Yuan was startled and said, "You already know?" Zi Yuan said, "Ah, you know too?"

Wen Yuan nodded and said, "Miss Zi Yuan, please rest assured, I will never let him succeed." Zi Yuan sighed and said, "He is the prince, you...you shouldn't go against him, it's too dangerous." Wen Yuan smiled and said, "So what if he's the prince? Don't worry, Miss. Although I don't have much ability, I have someone with great abilities to help me, and I will definitely protect you."

Seeing the determination in Wen Yuan's eyes, Zi Yuan felt both worried and overjoyed. After a long silence, she suddenly whispered, "Young Master Wen's kindness is something I will never forget." As she spoke, she gracefully bowed. Wen Yuan was startled and quickly helped her up, saying, "Miss, there's no need for this. It's what I should do." Zi Yuan raised her head, her eyes glistening with tears, yet filled with joy and relief. She gently rested her head on Wen Yuan's shoulder. Wen Yuan turned his head slightly, their faces meeting. He felt her breath was sweeter than orchids, her beauty more radiant than a lotus, and his heart fluttered. Their lips met, about to kiss.

Suddenly, Zi Yuan trembled, turned her head away, her eyes blinked, and with an apologetic expression, said softly, "Young Master Wen, we...we should go somewhere else." Wen Yuan paused, then smiled and said, "Indeed."

He deeply respected Zi Yuan, and since she had acted this way, he was at ease and not surprised, though he suddenly felt a pang of melancholy.

The two strolled along the lakeside until dawn, when Wen Yuan finally escorted Zi Yuan back to the Water Swallow Tower. Ziyuan didn't speak much along the way. Although the two didn't talk much, their hearts seemed to be connected. Every time they looked at each other with a smile, it was as if they had conveyed their thoughts.

When they entered the streets of Hangzhou, dawn had already broken.

Ziyuan said softly, "Shuiyan Tower isn't far now. I can go back by myself." Wenyuan smiled and said, "It's just one corner away. I'll escort you to the end." As he spoke, he turned the corner. Ziyuan smiled and said, "Alright, this is it. Don't let Aunt Zhu find you..." Suddenly, he saw dozens of people gathered in front of Shuiyan Tower. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was Zhao Pingbo and his group.

Wenyuan thought to himself, "They came so fast. It's only just dawn on the third day!" Scanning the group, he saw that besides Shao Fei and Ke Yantai, there was also an iron-faced man, presumably Yan Tie, whom Hua Xuan and Xiao Murong had encountered. There was also a middle-aged Taoist priest with a long beard, a dignified face, and eyes that didn't reveal any glint of light, clearly indicating that his skills were extraordinary. The rest of the people appeared to be ordinary guards.

Granny Zhu was also standing outside the door. When she saw Ziyuan, she rushed forward and exclaimed, "Oh my! My young lady, you're finally back! The young prince has been waiting for so long, just waiting to take you away..." Ziyuan frowned slightly and walked forward with Wenyuan.

Seeing Wen Yuan with Zi Yuan, Zhao Pingbo was furious and shouted, "Wen, this is none of your business, get out of here!" Wen Yuan laughed, "You actually found out my name? I didn't know.

But Your Highness is rather rude, not befitting a scion of a noble family."

Zhao Pingbo said arrogantly, "Why should I be polite to a lowly commoner like you? Miss Zi Yuan, your luggage is packed, let's get going." Zi Yuan said calmly, "When did I pack my luggage? I suppose it was Zhu Mama who did it. But I have no intention of accompanying the young master, please leave, don't lower yourself to associate with someone as lowly as me." Zhao Pingbo laughed

, "Why do you say that, Miss? Yes, you're thinking of the benefits of being a lowly commoner, aren't you?"

Zi Yuan said, "Young Master Wen is knowledgeable and courteous, gentle and refined. Although he is a commoner, he surpasses many sons of wealthy families."

These words were clearly directed at Zhao Pingbo. Upon hearing this, Zhao Pingbo was furious. Looking at Wen Yuan again, he immediately felt murderous intent and said, "Fine! Boy, I'll test your skills and see what makes you so special." As he spoke, he drew the sword from his waist. A blinding white light flashed, and then the light disappeared. Zhao Pingbo now held a three-foot-long sword in his hand, the blade of which faintly contained a gleaming light.

Wen Yuan smiled slightly and said, "Your sword is no ordinary weapon; it appears to be an extremely sharp blade." Zhao Pingbo looked smug and said, "Indeed! This precious sword is called the Li Long Sword. Your ordinary swords are simply no match for it." Wen Yuan nodded and said, "In that case, let's stop fighting to avoid the loser looking bad."

Zhao Pingbo sneered, "Alright, are you scared?" Wen Yuan said, "I am not the one who will lose, so what is there to fear?" Zhao Pingbo's expression changed drastically, and he shouted, "You say I will lose?" Wen Yuan slowly stepped in front of Zi Yuan and said unhurriedly, "If the young prince can reach the point where he doesn't need to rely on his sword, then I might lose."

Upon hearing this, the middle-aged Taoist's lips suddenly curled up. Zhao Pingbo brandished the Li Long Sword and angrily said, "You brat, still so arrogant? Let's see what this young master is capable of!" With a flash of sword light, he thrust three times in quick succession. Wen Yuan saw it clearly, dodged it with a graceful movement, turned around, drew his long sword from his waist, and laughed, "I just broke a sword a few days ago, and I only recently bought this long sword from the blacksmith. It seems I need to ask the young prince to give it a grand opening."
