Postscript to "Moonlight and Frosty Splendor":

After more than three months, I've finally finished writing it. Let me catch my breath.
First of all, thank you all for your continued support. Many readers have given me a lot of inspiration in the comments. Without your participation, I'm afraid this book would be much less interesting. Thank you all.
Next, I'll answer some of the questions that everyone is most concerned about.
First, regarding the title "Moonlight and Frosty Splendor," many have speculated that it refers to the four female protagonists in the book, which is both correct and incorrect. Initially, my plan only included two female protagonists, Yue'er and Su Ningshuang, with the entire story roughly between twenty and thirty chapters long. The title actually only referred to these two characters. Later, everyone was so enthusiastic and actively commented, and after writing about the two female protagonists, I felt there was something left unsaid, so I added two more. Judging from the results, everyone seems to like the latter two female protagonists as well, which makes me very gratified.
If we were to insist on a one-to-one correspondence, "moon" naturally refers to Yue'er, "frost" refers to the master's wife, while "shadow" doesn't resemble Lu Wanying but rather Han Shiyun, and "flower" refers to Lu Wanying. The specific reasons will be explained later.
Calling this a martial arts story isn't entirely accurate. There aren't many scenes set in the martial arts world; it's more about the small stories of four women living in a mansion. Since the initial premise was that the two female leads lacked martial arts skills, too much focus on martial arts would have relegated them to supporting roles. After all, the title is "Moonlight and Frost," not "Li Tianlin's Romantic Adventures," which would have shifted the focus and made the story incongruous and misguided. Similarly, some interesting plot points, such as Han Shiyun's master's encounter with Li Tianlin while searching for her disciple, Li Zhenniang's seduction of Li Tianlin, and Lu Wanying's younger sister, were omitted because they were too far removed from the main theme. While this is somewhat regrettable, it was left out for the sake of overall structural integrity.
As the story has progressed to this point, the four beauties have entered into a harmonious relationship, and everything that needed to be explained has been clearly stated. If we don't want to repeat the previous plot, the only way to continue the story is to expand the setting to the entire martial arts world and add new characters. However, as mentioned before, this would make the roles of Shuang and Yue too insignificant, so we had to leave them out.
Many people hoped for scenes featuring green (green) in the story, but I'm sorry to say that I have no prejudice against green-themed stories. However, the tone of this piece is to be warm and tender, so I deliberately avoided green elements. Of course, to cater to everyone's needs, I skirted the line a few times, and there's nothing I can do if people are not satisfied. Perhaps I will add green elements in my next work, but I don't think there will be many.
Regardless of the genre, what attracts readers? I've always believed it's the story and the characters. Doing either one well is enough to satisfy readers. Many poorly written articles lack both a good story and engaging characters, relying solely on erotic descriptions, which ultimately fail to win over readers. Knowing I'm not particularly talented in storytelling, I've focused my efforts on developing compelling characters.
What kind of person is Li Tianlin? He's not a hero, just an ordinary person with all the weaknesses of an ordinary person: weak-willed, lecherous, somewhat timid, lacking willpower, and easily tempted. But occasionally, he shows a manly side, making him a good person in the conventional sense. He doesn't have any particularly outstanding characteristics; he's practically a template for a minor character, yet he sits in the protagonist's position. However, I still feel that this character is actually more suitable as the protagonist of this story than those heroes and valiant figures, after all, the tone of this story is warm and harmonious, not about martial arts supremacy. Some readers say he's the needle that strings the story together, and I think that's quite true.
Han Jianchen, in this story, is actually written as a supporting protagonist. This character, who dies after only two chapters, is the starting point of the story and the core connection between all the characters and plot points. He is not only handsome and skilled in martial arts, but also wise. Even on his deathbed, he leaves a will to handle his affairs, allowing Su Ningshuang to remarry, arranging a marriage for Li Tianlin, and urging him and Yue'er to marry as soon as possible. On the surface, this is for his wife's future decades, but it may also be to prevent what happens later in the main story. Perhaps he already understood that after his death, his outwardly dignified and elegant but inwardly passionate wife would not be able to endure loneliness, while his disciple was the man closest to her and least likely to be viewed with suspicion. His two dying wishes were to prevent any illicit affair between them. Unfortunately, man proposes, God disposes; what is destined to happen cannot be avoided. Even after his death, his shadow continued to loom over the Han family mansion. Li Tianlin was the shadow of Han Jianchen in the hearts of many people. It could even be said that Li Tianlin himself might have had such thoughts in his subconscious.
Su Ningshuang, as the female lead, appears dignified, elegant, virtuous, and kind, but her heart burns with a fiery passion. After her husband's death, she might vow to remain chaste due to grief, but in reality, she cannot. If it weren't for Li Tianlin, a close and unsuspecting man, she might have remained chaste for several years after refraining from sexual activity. However, due to a series of unfortunate events, the two eventually consummated their relationship. On the surface, it appears that Li Tianlin initiated the encounter, and Su Ningshuang passively accepted. But in reality, it might be a result of mutual attraction. If she truly had no desire for Li Tianlin, he wouldn't have succeeded so easily. Once a beautiful woman in her prime opens her heart and soul, the raging fire cannot be extinguished. Between her and Li Tianlin, love and lust are intertwined; it's difficult to say which is stronger.
Yue'er, however, was a different story. Among the four women, her feelings for Li Tianlin were the most sincere and pure, clearly outweighing lust. As she herself said, from the time she was old enough to understand, she dreamed of one day becoming his bride. For a pure young girl who had never experienced hardship, her father, mother, and husband were her entire world. When her father died, a corner of her world collapsed. Beyond grief, she felt a profound sense of fear and helplessness. Therefore, all she could do was cling tightly to her two other pillars: her mother and husband. This was not only because of familial and romantic love, but also because they were the entirety of her world. So when she discovered her mother and husband's affair, she was filled with grief and anger, but ultimately could only accept it, because these two people were her world. If she truly broke away from her husband and mother, the only outcome would be death. As for her husband's repeated infidelity, she was hurt time and time again, but helpless. The wounds were reopened, and eventually, the pain became numb. Finally, she learned to be patient and to share her happiness with others, but deep down she was resentful. She repeatedly provoked Lu Wanying, verbally abused Han Shiyun, and even occasionally made sarcastic remarks about her own mother—all reactions to this resentment. Ultimately, she had to try to accept everything, and whether she ultimately found happiness or unhappiness, perhaps she herself didn't know.
Han Shiyun is a woman with a severe case of brother complex. She can be seen as a more physically powerful version of Yue'er; they share similar personalities—pure and devoted. The difference lies in that one preserved her love, even if only partially, while the other suffered for ten years of unrequited love. The innocent girl endured hardships and grew up, but could never return to her former self. She recently chose Li Tianlin as her partner, but deep down, she sees him as a substitute for that other person, still loving the shadow in her heart. Even during their intimate moments, she still calls him "brother." From a game perspective, Yue'er is the protagonist of the first playthrough, while Han Shiyun is the protagonist of the second. Their experiences differ, but the person remains the same. Yun'er is Yue'er, and she is the shadow of the moon.
Lu Wanying is actually written as a contrast to Su Ningshuang. Su is a lady from a prominent family, while Lu comes from a family of constables; Su is gentle and quiet, while Lu is bold and decisive; Su speaks elegantly, while Lu occasionally uses vulgar language; beneath Su's gentle exterior lies a willful heart, while Lu's bold exterior hides a conservative heart. Of course, they also have things in common: intelligence and understanding. Lu Wanying dares to tease Yue'er and ignore Han Shiyun, yet she always respects Su Ningshuang. Their mutual respect ensures peace in Li Tianlin's harem. She is the opposite of Su Ningshuang; she is Shuang Zhihua (Frosty Flower). Her feelings for Li Tianlin are not actually intense; she only married him because she lost her virginity to him, became pregnant with his child, and was forced to. It was more of a submissive acceptance, because deep down, Lu Wanying is a very conservative woman. Of course, as they spend more time together, their feelings deepen, and eventually she acknowledges her feelings for Li Tianlin.
In The Deer and the Cauldron, Wei Xiaobao says: "After I die, Shuang'er will definitely commit suicide, the princess will definitely not commit suicide, the other women will probably roll dice, and Fang Yi will definitely cheat when rolling dice, using me, this dead man, as a lamb."
As for Li Tianlin, if he were to die, Yue'er would surely dress up beautifully and die with a smile. Su Ningshuang would likely grieve for a while, and then perhaps remain chaste, perhaps become a nun, or perhaps meet other men—it's hard to say. Han Shiyun would hunt down the murderer, take revenge, and then live a secluded life, avoiding all outsiders. As for Lu Wanying, she would definitely tear the murderer to pieces, and after taking revenge, she would simply raise her child peacefully, without being overly saddened. However, she would remain chaste and unmarried, not because she deeply loved her husband, but simply because it was what a woman should do for her deceased husband.
Okay, after saying so much, I'm a little dizzy myself. Anyway, let's end it here.
As mentioned before, the next part will delve into the story of that person whose name cannot be spoken thirty years ago, including the past of Lu Mingchuan, Guo Shoucheng, and others, as well as the tale of the Shuiyun Sword Sect. This time, it's truly a martial arts story. It involves the martial world and the imperial court; from my current ideas, the scope is quite vast, and I'm unsure if I can handle it well. Because I'm a rather lazy person, updates will likely be slower than they were with this previous work.
The following sentences are for your consideration; consider them a preview of this work:
Many years later, when Lu Mingchuan received news of Guo Shoucheng's death, he neither laughed heartily nor mourned, but simply uttered a soft "oh," as if it were the most ordinary thing.
Only when everyone around him had left did Lu Mingchuan sigh, pour himself a glass of wine, take a sip, pour the rest on the ground, then lie down on the recliner, close his eyes, and let his thoughts travel back thirty years to that spirited young man.
Guo Shoucheng, Zhao Shouzhuo, Leng Kongming, Ding Huafan, back then we were all young, drinking and singing wildly in the desert, riding horses and killing enemies on the grassland, amidst the swirling snow and the endless enemy forces, the clash of swords and the thunder of horses, it all seems like yesterday.
Oh, and that bastard too. The best martial artist, the most ruthless killer, with a volatile temper, doing things that could drive anyone crazy, yet he's incredibly loyal to his friends, making him impossible to hate. Thirty years have passed, old friend, are you still alive?
This guy is a complete bastard. What's most enviable...and infuriating, I mean, infuriating, is that he kept nine wives. What a beast!
His first wife was actually his master, beautiful and skilled in martial arts. How could she have been so foolish as to marry this bastard? If it were me... cough cough, I mean other people, wouldn't I have someone I could find attractive?
The second wife was a widow, and incidentally, her original husband was killed by him with a single blow.
His third wife was from a foreign tribe beyond the Great Wall, and she commanded several thousand men, a ruthless killer.
Fourth wife, hehe, can't say, can't say.
My fifth wife is a female knight-errant. Damn it, how did we end up together when we clearly have a blood feud?
The sixth and seventh wives are twin sisters, a pair of little devils who cause a lot of headaches.
His eighth wife was his apprentice, whom he had raised for over ten years. He ruined a perfectly good child.
His ninth wife is his goddaughter, what a beast! By the way, she calls his second wife "Mom".
Tell me, how can such a scoundrel enjoy all the pleasures of life, and not only is he not condemned by thousands, but he is also hailed as a great hero by countless people? What kind of world is this?
