Moonlight and Frosty Splendor - Chapter 28

The east gate of Qizhou City opened wide, and a line of carriages and horses slowly approached. The riders were all burly and strong, with swords hanging from their sides and dressed in bright clothes. Several carriages carried several ornate chests, sealed with the seals of the Funing Company. It was unknown how much gold and silver they contained, but the chests creaked and groaned under their weight.
As they entered the city gates, a knight dismounted, bowed to a richly decorated carriage in the convoy, and announced loudly, "Reporting to the young master and madam, we have entered the city. Should we send someone to the branch office to have Manager Sun send someone to fetch us?"
After a while, the person inside the car replied, "No need to trouble yourself, let's just go directly there."
The knight agreed, mounted his horse, and directed the caravan forward.
After traversing the long street, the convoy stopped in front of the Funing branch. The carriage curtain was rolled up, and a richly dressed young man stepped out, his face slightly flushed. He gestured towards the carriage and said, "My lady, we've arrived. Please get out."
After a while, a fair hand, as white as jade, gently rested on the young man's hand. A woman in a lake-green dress with jingling ornaments stepped out of the carriage. Although she lowered her head slightly, one could tell from her figure and profile that she was an absolute beauty.
The woman got out of the car, gave the young man a slight bow, and said in a voice as melodious as a nightingale's song, "Thank you for your trouble, my husband."
Li Tianlin wore a smile, but his back was slightly sweaty. His aunt usually had a cold and aloof demeanor, like ice and snow in the dead of winter, but now she was acting gentle and virtuous. Those who didn't know the inside story naturally envied her, but his heart was pounding with anxiety.
As Li Tianlin helped Han Shiyun out of the car, he naturally placed his hand on her waist. Seeing that Han Shiyun's eyes suddenly turned cold, he hurriedly whispered, "Miss Liu is frail and usually needs to be supported by Young Master Zhu."
Han Shiyun was naturally aware of these circumstances, but her body had never been touched by a man before. Now, however, Li Tianlin had his arm around her waist, making her feel inexplicably awkward, both physically and mentally. Even fighting the enemy for three hours was much easier than this.
The two put on quite a show on the street, which must have left a deep impression on those who were interested, before they were led into the Funing ship.
After crossing the courtyard and entering the hall, and making sure there were no other people around, Han Shiyun coldly said, "How long are you going to keep your hand on my waist?"
Li Tianlin was startled and hurriedly let go of her hand. He didn't even dare to sit down and stood obediently to the side.
Seeing Li Tianlin's frightened expression, Han Shiyun felt a little apologetic, but being of a cold nature, she simply said, "Don't stand there, sit down."
Li Tianlin then sat down.
The curtain was lifted, and Lu Wanying walked in with a smile. She wore a pale yellow silk shirt, and her long, black hair was casually tied back, adorned with a peony made of gold thread. She sat down on a chair with an air of nonchalance, crossing one leg like a man, and said, "Alright, if Jade Butterfly is so inclined, she probably already knows that Miss Liu has arrived. She'll make her move tonight or tomorrow night. Young Master Zhu and his wife's room is ready. After dinner, you can go to your room."
Li Tianlin hurriedly said, "As long as Auntie goes there, I'll find another place to stay."
Lu Wanying said with a half-smile, "What a cunning and treacherous person Yu Hudie is! Can you guarantee there aren't any of his spies on the Fu Ning ship? The fact that you two 'husband and wife' are not sharing a room is obvious to anyone. Hehe, Young Hero Li, don't let this oversight ruin all your previous efforts."
"Does this really mean we have to sleep together?"
"Hmm, maybe we'll even share a bed." Lu Wanying smiled, her eyes crinkling with pride.
Before Li Tianlin could say anything more, Han Shiyun said, "Alright. Tianlin, pack up, let's go back to our room together."
The night was deep, the moon was obscured by clouds, and the Funing was shrouded in darkness.
The young master's room was lit, and Li Tianlin and Han Shiyun sat at the table, each holding a book. However, both of them seemed absent-minded, and after a long time, they hadn't turned a single page.
Seeing that it was getting late, Han Shiyun suddenly stood up, glanced at Li Tianlin, and said, "Come with me to bed." As she spoke, her face turned red and her heart pounded.
Li Tianlin was startled, but then he saw Han Shiyun go to the bed on her own and draw the bed curtains. His heart pounded, and his palms sweated. After hesitating for a moment, he finally got up and went to the bedside.
He lifted the curtain and went inside, only to see that Han Shiyun had changed into a tight-fitting outfit, with a sword beside her. As she watched Li Tianlin enter, her face flushed slightly, and she whispered, "Go inside."
Li Tianlin nodded, stepped over Han Shiyun, and lay down on the bed.
Han Shiyun kept her eyes on Li Tianlin's movements. When he stepped over her, a warm, masculine aura wafted over her. Even a seasoned swordswoman with extensive experience in the martial world couldn't help but feel nervous and shy. Her palms sweated, and she subconsciously gripped the hilt of her sword. She only breathed a sigh of relief when Li Tianlin lay down properly.
The bed wasn't large, and even though the two tried their best to keep their distance, they were still very close to each other, and could clearly hear each other's breathing.
Han Shiyun lay quietly on the bed, her heart pounding. She thought of herself, so pure and innocent, having barely spoken a word to a man in the past ten years, yet now she was sharing a bed with one as husband and wife. She felt utterly bewildered. Seeing Li Tianlin lying there obediently, not daring to move, she felt slightly relieved. She quietly moved closer to him and whispered, "Don't make any moves, or I'll kill you." After saying this, she realized she was too close and quickly moved away.
The two lay there, not daring to move an inch. The room was completely silent, save for the occasional crackling sound of the candle flames popping on the table.
The two waited intently for the jade butterfly to arrive, from the second watch of the night until dawn. They could no longer hold on and gradually drifted into a half-asleep, half-awake state.
After an unknown amount of time, Han Shiyun suddenly woke up with a start. Opening her eyes, she saw that it was already bright outside the window, and knew that Jade Butterfly hadn't come that night, feeling slightly disappointed. Suddenly remembering that she was still sleeping with Tianlin, she was startled and quickly turned her head, just in time to see Li Tianlin lying on his side next to her, facing her, with one leg draped over her body and his arm placed on her chest. By sheer coincidence, his hand was pressing against one of her breasts.
Han Shiyun was instantly filled with shame and embarrassment, wishing she could draw her sword and kill Li Tianlin. Grasping the hilt, she suddenly remembered that the boy's actions were unintentional in his sleep. After a moment's thought, she finally suppressed her anger, slowly removed his hand, pulled herself out from under his legs, straightened her clothes, got out of bed, and gently pushed open the door to leave. After breathing in the morning air, Han Shiyun calmed down considerably, but the thought of how much this boy had taken advantage of her the night before filled her with both anger and shame, yet she couldn't vent her anger.
As soon as the door closed, Li Tianlin abruptly opened his eyes, a look of lingering fear on his face. He had actually woken up right after Han Shiyun, but suddenly realized that his posture had been incredibly offensive to his aunt, so he dared not move an inch. Han Shiyun's gesture of reaching for the sword hilt had startled Li Tianlin so much that he almost jumped up, fearing that his aunt would kill him with a single sword stroke. In the end, he forced himself to remain expressionless, but his back was already drenched in cold sweat.
Han Shiyun had just left, so Li Tianlin naturally didn't dare to get up immediately. He lay on the bed with his eyes half-closed and waited for a while. Suddenly, he thought of the warm and full feeling of Han Shiyun's breasts in his hands, and some lewd thoughts arose in his mind. He immediately realized his mistake and cursed himself inwardly: Li Tianlin, how can you have improper thoughts about your aunt?
After a while, Li Tianlin got out of bed, pushed open the door and went out. He saw Han Shiyun standing under the eaves, wearing a tight-fitting dress that showed off her curvaceous figure. When she saw him come out, a strange look flashed in her eyes, seven parts annoyance and three parts shyness, which made Li Tianlin sweat.
The two walked together into the living room, where they saw Lu Wanying sitting in a chair drinking tea. She had changed into a pale yellow blouse and a pale yellow pleated skirt. Her delicate, spring-like hands held the teacup, and a leisurely expression graced her fair face. Seeing the two enter, she raised her teacup and smiled, "Miss Han, Young Master Li, you're up early! How did you sleep last night?"
Han Shiyun walked to the chair opposite her and sat down, coldly saying, "The Jade Butterfly did not appear last night."
"Hmm, that's normal," Lu Wanying said slowly. "It's only the first day, so maybe the news hasn't reached Yu Hudie's ears yet. Or maybe Yu Hudie is cunning and suspects it's a trap, so she's planning to gather more information before making a move. As someone who's fishing, you can't do without that kind of patience."
"Will Jade Butterfly come tonight?" Li Tianlin asked.
"Maybe, maybe not," Lu Wanying said casually, glancing at Li Tianlin. She reached out and lifted her snow-white chin, revealing her fair neck. Her languid expression made Li Tianlin blush. "Why don't you two 'husband and wife' take a stroll on the street today, showing yourselves, and see if you can lure him out?"
Seeing Han Shiyun's expression grow increasingly cold, Lu Wanying put away her smile and said seriously, "Don't worry, the information we've released is that Young Master Zhu and Young Lady Liu will only stay in Qizhou for three days. If Jade Butterfly really wants to make a move, it will be either tonight or tomorrow night. You two can just hold on for two more days."
"Two more days?" Li Tianlin almost shouted.
Lu Wanying's lips curled slightly as she gave the two of them a mocking look: "At least you two are still in bed. The constables I arranged and the martial arts experts who were lying in ambush have been huddled in the cold wind all night, not daring to even stretch their backs. If you two have no problems, go out for a stroll, or simply have dinner and get some sleep. You need to be on your toes tonight."
Han Shiyun stopped Li Tianlin from speaking again, and stood up, saying, "Alright. Let's hold on for two more days."
It was late at night, in Young Master Zhu's room.
The bed curtains hung low. Inside, Han Shiyun sat cross-legged, a sword resting on her lap, her eyes slightly closed. Li Tianlin, on the other hand, sat cross-legged against the other side of the bed, not daring to move an inch.
Because of what happened yesterday, the two of them adopted this posture without prior arrangement. Li Tianlin estimated that if what happened last night were to happen again, Han Shiyun's sword would probably really cut a hole in his body without any mercy.
Hearing the drumbeats outside, it was already past midnight. Li Tianlin felt anxious, thinking to himself: I wonder if the Jade Butterfly will appear tonight? He couldn't help but open his eyes and glance at the person opposite him. He saw that Han Shiyun's eyes were slightly closed, her face calm, without the slightest sign of anxiety.
Li Tianlin felt slightly relieved. Just as he was about to close his eyes, he suddenly saw Han Shiyun's eyes snap open, her face filled with a faint murderous intent, as she gripped her sword tightly.
After a moment, a hole was poked in the paper window frame, and a wisp of white smoke drifted in.
A while later, the window creaked open, and a figure dressed in black drifted in like a wisp of smoke, landing silently.
After entering the room, the man did not rush to make any moves. He waited for a moment, listened to the sounds inside and outside the room, and after finding nothing unusual, he slowly straightened up, walked to the bedside, and reached out to lift the curtain.
The moment his fingers touched the edge of the curtain, a sudden sense of alarm arose in his heart, and without thinking, he quickly retreated.
A sharp sword light flashed from behind the curtain, swift as lightning and powerful as thunder, cleanly slicing through the curtain as if it were nothing. Even with the black-clad man's superb lightness skill and extremely fast retreat, he was still unable to dodge in time.
Seeing the sword flash upon him with no way to dodge, the man in black flipped his wrist, revealing a dagger. With a clang, the sword and dagger clashed, sparks flying. A powerful force pressed down on the man in black's wrist, causing the dagger to fly out of his hand. He used the force to leap backward, crashing through the window. He didn't know how many splinters had pierced his back, but he felt excruciating pain.
The man in black grunted, realizing he had been ambushed. While still in mid-air, he raised his hand and fired three poison needles glowing with blue light into the house. Without looking back, he leaped onto the roof and ran away as fast as he could.
The sword light flashed like a bolt of lightning, sweeping away the poisoned needles. Han Shiyun had already leaped into the courtyard. Seeing the man in black leap onto the roof, he touched the ground with his toes and jumped onto the roof to chase after him.
The man in black had only run a few steps when two figures appeared in front of him, shouting, "Jade Butterfly, today is your death day!" They drew their swords and charged at him.
The man in black, suddenly ambushed, didn't slow down at all. He raised his hand and shot two poisoned needles. Two screams were heard as the two men were hit by the needles and their bodies went limp. The man in black was already close to the two men, grabbing them with both hands and throwing them behind him.
Han Shiyun had already caught up behind, but seeing the two people being thrown at her, she had no choice but to slow down and catch them. In that brief moment, the man in black had already leaped off the Funing ship and disappeared into the alley.
By the time Han Shiyun caught up, the alley was already empty.
