Enemy Situation Analysis

May 10th. Cloudy.

I sat in the octagonal pavilion in the park, my thoughts churning like a raging storm.

It was in this very pavilion that I received Zhuang Ling's farewell letter, bidding farewell to my first love. In the blink of an eye, that painful autumn had become a memory, and another passionate summer was approaching. Although recalling Zhuang Ling's voice and smile still caused a pang of pain, the wounds of the past had healed, allowing me to face it with equanimity.

However, I wasn't here today to lean on the railing and reminisce, but to meet an important person—my dream of pursuing Yan depends entirely on this person.

"Why isn't she here yet?" I muttered impatiently, just as a girl with a backpack came into view. She almost ran over, and after reaching me, she waved breathlessly, unable to speak for a while. I stared intently, and oh my god! The girl before me was incredibly ugly. Her face looked like a battlefield ravaged by shrapnel. Her eyebrows seemed to be intertwined in a passionate embrace. Her mouth was crooked, revealing several yellowed teeth.

"You...you're Xiaohui, right?" I asked hesitantly, frantically trying to recall familiar faces from my brain and compare them to the information my eyes were receiving. The result was only fifty percent similar. I began to doubt if I had mistaken her for someone else. Xiaohui was indeed unattractive back then, but she wasn't this ugly. While it's said that girls change a lot as they grow up, such a dramatic transformation would probably astound biologists.

"It's me! Yesterday...you were the one who called...and asked me to meet up!" She gradually calmed her breathing and called out loudly, "Hi, little boy! Long time no see. How are you?"

Her voice was so high-pitched and resonant that the nearby birds were startled and scattered. I knew then that this was indeed Xiao Hui. What other girl could have such an amazing voice? So I laughed and said, "Great! You're eating and drinking your fill all day with nothing to do. How about you? You're doing pretty well too, right?"

Xiao Hui's face fell, and she gave a self-deprecating bitter laugh, saying, "If I were doing well, would I be in this sorry state? When you saw me just now, would you have looked like you'd seen a ghost? Hehe, don't be embarrassed to admit it, I know I'm already repulsive, even more unsightly than before..."

I said awkwardly, "Please forgive my rudeness, I didn't mean it... I think it must be because of the heavy pressure of studying in my senior year of high school! Maybe you've overworked yourself, that's why you've become... become..."

Xiao Hui shook her head, gritting her teeth, and said, "That's not the reason. Humph, the reason I've become like this is all thanks to that bitch Huang Lei!"

"What? Thanks to her?" I was very surprised, and after a moment's thought, I suddenly realized. Last year at the National Day gathering, Xiao Hui helped Zhuang Ling frame and prank Huang Lei. Given Huang Lei's arrogant temperament, she would definitely retaliate fiercely afterward. Thinking of this, I asked sympathetically, "How did she do this to you? Did she disfigure you?"

"It's worse than disfigurement!" Xiao Hui said bitterly, "She instigated everyone to completely isolate me. My good friends have all distanced themselves from me! No one talks to me, no one chats with me, no one even notices that I exist! This loneliness makes me unable to eat or sleep, it's driving me crazy. How can I not become ugly? I... I'm about to explode! Ah--"

She suddenly let out an angry roar, which made my eardrums buzz. I conservatively estimate that her voice was over 80 decibels, and it even had a strange echo effect. While regretting not having insured my ears, I raised my voice and said, "Is Huang Lei's influence really that strong? Does everyone obediently listen to her?"

Xiao Hui sneered, "The boys? They're always at the feet of beautiful women! With Huang Lei's seductive looks, which boy in our class—or rather, our grade—isn't trying his best to please her? Humph! As for the girls, they don't dare to easily offend this powerful Youth League secretary... You probably don't know, but she's been promoted again, she's become the Youth League secretary. She's responsible for drafting every student's conduct evaluation, which is a big deal related to their academic records. Who doesn't want her to give them a good grade?"

I was stunned, and it took me a while to come to my senses. I said dejectedly, "So she doesn't consider you a friend anymore, and she's living such a successful life! It seems that it's absolutely impossible for me to 'get rid of' her! Sigh!"

"That's not necessarily true!" Xiaohui waved her hand dismissively. "Although no one openly opposes her, many people are secretly dissatisfied with her. Besides, we've been good friends for several years, and I know her personality and temperament very well. I think that as long as you can find her weaknesses, it's not impossible to defeat her."

I perked up and earnestly asked, "Please advise! What are her weaknesses?"

Xiaohui listed them off on her fingers as if they were her most treasured possessions: "Many! She's too proud, too vain, too sharp-tongued, petty... " "And so on and so forth, there's so much to say! Hey, and another thing, what she talks about day and night is going abroad. She says her biggest wish in life is to immigrate to America and become a member of the upper class! Unfortunately, she can never go. If you have relatives in America who can take her out for a taste of foreign life, I guarantee she'll offer herself to you willingly!"

I said with a wry smile, "Unless one of my brave family members goes on a smuggling trip, I absolutely have no chance of having any relatives in America... Hmm, besides that, what else would she be willing to exchange her virginity for?"

"Yes, there's something else!" Xiaohui said after a moment's thought. "That's her future. I remember two years ago, we watched a movie about the Cultural Revolution together. In it, a female educated youth was forced to sleep with the head of the production brigade to get a spot in university. Huang Lei was moved to tears after watching it, saying that those who sacrifice for a bright future are the most difficult. If it were her, she would have done the same. From her words and actions, you can see that she is a girl who desperately wants to get ahead, willing to pay any price for her goals." "

I said listlessly, 'This is still useless to me, and I certainly can't use her future as a bargaining chip. To be honest, my own future is still uncertain!'

Xiao Hui grinned, her eyes flashing with a sinister light: 'Why don't you just force yourself on her! Huang Lei has another fatal weakness: she's overly concerned with saving face. So you can rest assured, she'll just swallow her bitter pill afterward and won't dare to tell anyone…'

Her tone was chilling, so vicious that it was hardly the kind of thing a middle school student would say. " I couldn't help but shudder, interrupting her, "This...this is too dangerous! My dear sister, that kind of behavior is no joke! How do you know she won't tell anyone?"

Xiao Hui confidently replied, "Huang Lei cares most about what others think of her, I'm absolutely certain of that. Otherwise, she wouldn't have gone to such lengths to hide her relationship with Chen Zhihao, only telling three or four friends. Let me tell you, once on a bus she was groped by a thug, and a soldier standing nearby couldn't stand it and stood up for her. But she refused to admit it, and the thug just swaggered away, it was infuriating..."

I thought about it carefully and realized it made sense. Back then, I harassed Huang Lei so many times, even directly touching her indecently, yet she never reported it to her teachers or parents. Actually, that incident in the alley was practically attempted rape; any slightly bolder girl would probably have reported it to the police long ago. But all I got was a beating from Chen Zhihao...

"If you really have the guts to go for it, I have a good plan!" Xiaohui suddenly interrupted my thoughts, spitting out a few words through gritted teeth: "I have one or two friends who are keeping a secret friendship with Huang Lei. They can help you lure Huang Lei out to a secluded place to meet. Then... it's up to you..."

My palms were sweating, and my heart was pounding wildly. Right now, this seemed to be my only way to get Huang Lei. Should I do it or not? Doing it, of course, carries enormous risks! Not doing it, I might never find any other opportunity! So, should I do it? Should I not? I couldn't answer myself. This was perhaps the most difficult decision I had ever made in my life!

After a long while, I hesitantly raised my head, stared at Xiaohui, and said, "I understand everything you've said. Please give me some more time to go back and think it over, okay?"

Xiaohui sighed noncommittally, her eyes revealing undisguised disappointment. May 13th, overcast.

In the school's conference room, about fifty people sat quietly, listening to the monotonous and predictable speech of a middle-aged man with a bloated face—our beloved principal. The extremely dry content caused yawns to rise and fall around us. I stretched three times, staring at his constantly jiggling double chin, my consciousness growing increasingly hazy. "...While other students are still striving hard, you, the recommended students, have already successfully entered the gates of our high school. On behalf of all the school staff, I congratulate you!" The principal paused intentionally to give the audience time to applaud, but the already bored students were mostly lost in thought, and no one reacted immediately; the lecture hall remained silent. The principal's facial muscles quickly showed signs of malnutrition, his expression both dejected and pathetic, as if he desperately wanted to lead the applause to liven things up. Fortunately, he had extensive experience giving reports, and he quickly regained his composure, continuing to read his prepared remarks to himself: "...In order to provide a good learning environment for our students who are still striving, the school has decided to entrust a glorious task to all of you present here. From today onwards, you will shoulder the important responsibility of cleaning the entire school..." A murmur rippled through the audience; everyone snapped back to reality in an instant, their daydreams returning, and a chorus of boos erupted. The principal looked around with a benevolent yet authoritative gaze and asked in a clear voice, "Any objections? If so, please stand up and speak." The crowd, of course, understood his unspoken message and quickly declared that they had absolutely no objections and firmly supported the school leadership's wise decision. Satisfied with his self-esteem, the principal went off to attend another report, leaving behind a room full of grumbling individuals sighing and complaining. "They really know how to utilize their personnel!" a few girls next to me murmured. "With us volunteer laborers, the school won't need to hire anyone to clean for the next two months, saving us all the money!" "Why are only the junior high students who got into university through the guaranteed admission program doing the work? Why aren't the senior high students doing it?" " The list of senior high students hasn't been finalized yet! We'll find out who got into university after next week's mock exam. They're just a few days late; they'll all get in eventually..." " Quiet down, quiet down, students!" A wrinkled old woman stood on the stage. She was the school's general affairs officer, responsible for all the trivial matters. After everyone fell silent, she cleared her throat and said, "Everyone, go to the warehouse to get the cleaning tools, then come back here to report. I'll assign each of you a designated area; you just need to clean your own area..." After she finished speaking concisely, the students, having no other choice, poured out of the meeting room, a large group of them making a chaotic rush towards the warehouse. As I walked, I cursed under my breath. After a while, a sudden, whimsical thought struck me: Why don't I report later? By then, the main dirty and chaotic areas might have been assigned, and I could be placed in a cleaner place. Wouldn't that be great? I slapped my thigh in approval at my idea, so I secretly went to the canteen for a snack. Half an hour later, I slowly walked back and found the general affairs officer, who was gesturing and chatting with a thin old man. "What? You too?" The general affairs officer asked in surprise after hearing my words, "But we're already fully staffed, there's no other area for you to clean!" Seeing my plan had worked, I was secretly overjoyed, but feigned disappointment and said, "That's a pity. I really wanted to contribute my share to the school... Sigh, I must have been in the wrong place to go to the toilet! That made me late... Please give me some tasks! Otherwise, I'll feel uneasy." The general affairs officer, deeply moved by my sincerity, said, "Good boy! It's rare to see such a diligent student like you these days, truly rare! Let me think... Hmm, there will be quite a lot of work in a few days, but there really isn't any today..." Just as I was secretly feeling smug, the lean old man next to me spoke up: "Young man, I do have some things to do here. Why don't you lend me a hand?" "Oh right, you can go help Section Chief Wang!" the general affairs officer said happily to me. "He's the section chief for the senior year, and he'll be teaching you in the future. Do your best, and work hard!" I opened my mouth wide, deeply regretting that I had overdone the acting! But now that things had come to this, I had no choice but to agree, even if I had to bite the bullet. Section Chief Wang smiled and said, "Actually, it's nothing big! Young man, go to my office, open the second drawer on the bottom left, there's a stack of student information photocopies inside. Can you arrange them in ascending order by student ID number? Can you do that?" "Sure, such a simple thing, how could I not do it?" As soon as I heard it wasn't dirty or tiring work, I immediately agreed. So, Section Chief Wang pulled out a bunch of keys and pointed them out to me in detail: "Here, this is for opening the door... this is for opening the drawer... take the whole bunch of keys, just in case individual keys are too small and easy to lose. I have to go to a meeting right away, and I won't be back in the office for three hours. You must wait for me there, understand?" I nodded, took the keys, and walked towards the office building, feeling utterly unlucky. —Misfortune may be a blessing in disguise; this saying is indeed an irrefutable truth. Even I, with all my intelligence, never expected that this seemingly unlucky task would bring a fundamental turning point to my pursuit of beauty! It laid a solid foundation for my ultimate victory.
