The Last Judgment of Vampires (Episodes 1-4)

Chapter 1 Moving Away from

Vampire — The Last Judgment

Vampires dream too, and at least one vampire is dreaming of his childhood memories—

"...Vampires are cursed creatures; judgment will come eventually, it's just a matter of time!"

A kerosene lamp provides a sliver of warmth to the damp wooden cabin in the desolate suburbs. A dozen children sit around
a girl. At an age when they should be most lively and active, they listen intently to the girl telling stories, who holds a thick, brick-like book and
wears black-rimmed glasses.

"Alright, that's enough for today's story~ You should all go home before it gets dark!"

"No, Sister Millie~ The werewolf story hasn't been told yet!"

The girl, called Millie by a little boy, closes her book.

"Yes, yes, it'll be time for the vampires to wake up soon. If you don't go home soon, you'll be caught and eaten!
Here, Auntie just baked some honey apple pie. You can only take one slice each, so hurry home after you finish!"

Millie's mother, Patricia, walked out of the kitchen carrying a baking tray full of sliced apple pie. Before she even spoke,
the children smelled the sweet aroma and swarmed to the tray, each grabbing a slice and eating it
greedily .

The apple pie was cut according to the number of people, so logically, there shouldn't be any left over if everyone took one slice, but
there was one lone slice of apple pie on the tray.

"Oh! Little Roman... you won't grow tall if you don't eat, hurry up and eat it while it's hot!"

Richard Roman was a boy of few words. Unlike other children his age, he was cautious
in , giving off a gloomy feeling. He never seemed to have any friends,
and he was always alone on his way to and from school. Moreover... Roman only took a small, symbolic bite of whatever he ate
, and no one had ever seen him eat on his own initiative.

"Thank you!"

Urged on by Patricia's enthusiasm, little Roman finally picked up the crispy apple pie and
took a small bite.

"Is the apple pie good?"

"Yes, thank you, Auntie."

Little Roman raised his head slightly and whispered to Patricia.

"Hmm, good boy!"

Patricia vigorously ruffled little Roman's smooth, dark brown short hair.

Sometime later, the boys who had finished their apple pies went home together, and little Roman
was once again left behind.

At this age, a withdrawn child should be the target of bullying, but little Roman never
had any marks or bruises found on him.

Even though the neighbors around Roman's house had repeatedly reported hearing sounds of breaking
glass neither the police nor the school teachers, after examining little Roman
, said he was just a healthy boy with a slightly thin build, and there was nothing to worry about.

...But was that really the case?

Thoughts cut off!

Thump! Waking up felt like falling from the sky. The sleeping vampire—Richard Roman—was awake
, ten years ahead of the time in the dream.

Unlike the legendary vampires, this newly awakened vampire seemed more like a "creature" yet to be
discovered , or perhaps a long-extinct species. In short, real vampires
are different from all the legends and stories. At least, Richard did have some special abilities that were different from ordinary people, but
he did not pose a threat to the human species.

Richard, just awakened, went to the bathroom, looked in the mirror, and tidied himself. After washing up, he went to the kitchen,
opened the three-tiered black storage cabinet next to the refrigerator, and found several strangely colored bottles of tinctures and
decoctions sparsely arranged inside. Richard picked up the leftmost bottle, opened the wax-sealed mouth, and drank it all in one gulp.

Power gradually surged forth, with the side effect being only a momentary dizziness.

These were the results of Richard's years of research into black magic, herbalism, and alchemy. They might enhance
his abilities; after his body absorbed and digested them for a period of time, he could become stronger and
gain new abilities—at least that was the expected effect.

...Don't misunderstand, Richard was a pacifist. He had never had any intention of harming others, but he also
knew from childhood that one should always be wary of others. When his true form was exposed,
only he himself could protect himself, and was willing to protect himself.

Furthermore, whenever he discovered a new ability, he would tirelessly research various different ways
to use it; this was one of his few sources of enjoyment.

At this moment, he was examining the changes in his body after taking the decoction.

Soon after, his abilities manifested.

Richard discovered he could sense all living things within a kilometer radius and control creatures
such as mice, insects, and birds within that range with his mind.

However, Richard had long ago discovered his ability to manipulate the minds of lower-level creatures; the potion
simply enhanced his sensory abilities, allowing him to combine them with mind control. While it
wouldn't work on humans, having the mice dance for him was a pleasant pastime.

Just now, about twenty plump mice, under Richard's control, surged out from various corners of the apartment.

They lined up in front of Richard like humans, then… stood up and began
tap dancing, hand in hand.

Tap dancing, street dance, air guitar… the mice were surprisingly agile—this was a new
discovery, at least that's what Richard thought.

After the final human pyramid exercise, Richard noticed the mice were almost at their limit. He
clapped his hands, released them, and placed a large bowl of breakfast cereal in front of the exhausted mice.

"Chirp, chirp..."

"You want fruit flavor? No, I don't have any."

"Chirp!! Chirp chirp!"

"What? You say I've ruined your innocent minds, and now you don't even
deserve a measly fruit cereal?"

"Chirp...chirp!"

It's obvious... Richard, as a vampire, possesses many incredible abilities, but none of them include understanding
how mice talk...

just for fun!

However, this time the absorption was unusually fast; previously, it took a month for the ability to manifest—
Richard sat in his chair, pondering.

Perhaps it was due to the strength of the ability. Previously, he had gained the ability to transform his body into a cloud of
black mist, and since then, he could transform his entire body or parts of his body into black mist—a
power .
This time, it was merely an expansion of his existing sensory abilities, hence
the faster ?

The knowledge gained from just a few incomplete herbal medicine books was hardly enough to answer Richard's questions.

Whenever magic-related books appeared nearby, his heart would race; the closer, the faster.
Richard relied on this to acquire various magic books, but recently, after
traversing the surrounding villages and towns, he felt nothing.

Therefore, Richard made a major decision: next month, he would leave this place he had lived in for so long...
the basement.

Up until now, all of Richard's personal belongings had been stolen from the town under cover of darkness. During the day ,
he devoted himself to studying various subjects and skills.

Through books, Richard learned about the anatomy of vampires, their types, methods of identification, and… how to kill
vampires.

Each book, after being thoroughly studied by Richard, would be destroyed; after all, keeping
books that revealed his weaknesses would be incredibly foolish.

However, none of the books mentioned the origins of vampires.

The book *The Shadow Dwellers* mentions that vampires decide on their lifelong residence when they are young and rarely move
unless absolutely necessary.

But driven by a thirst for more knowledge, Richard reluctantly made this decision.

Richard packed his few remaining belongings and decided to leave the small
hill where .

As Richard picked up his luggage, he realized he hadn't spoken to a human in years and began
to worry about how he would survive in a place teeming with humans. He thought and thought,
repeatedly putting down and picking up his packed luggage, before finally… leaving.

As he left, the rats, bats, vipers… that had once swarmed the area gradually dispersed,
emitting sounds he'd never heard before, seemingly mournful cries, as if pleading with the young vampire to stay.

After all, Richard had become one with the local wildlife, often using his abilities
to help them, and they reciprocated in their own ways.

Although Richard hadn't noticed, these animals had indeed changed under his influence.

The tap-dancing rats, which had been there seven years when Richard moved in, were still alive
and kicking .

The vipers no longer ate rats, instead feeding mainly on berries and root vegetables.

The bats always hung upside down from the branches closest to Richard's dwelling.

Furthermore, they were more intelligent, agile, and stronger than their counterparts in other regions!

Richard was unaware at this time that, for better or worse, these little animals influenced by him would
create a legend in the distant future, on the other side of the world—but that was a story for another time…
