【Young Zhang Wuji of Jiuyang Valley and the Two Beauties of the Snow Ridge】(Foreword-1)

Author: lidongtang Word Count: 13123

***************************************************************
To avoid an abrupt opening, the preface quotes approximately 4000 words from the original text. Readers familiar with the text can skip this and proceed directly to the undamaged version. The book was covered with several crooked characters, none of which he recognized. Opening it, he found four books filled with these strange characters, yet each line was filled with tiny Chinese characters written in fine script.
He composed himself and began to read carefully. The text seemed to record the secrets of practicing Qi cultivation. As he slowly read on, he suddenly felt a jolt. He saw three lines of scripture he had memorized—the very text of the *Wudang Nine Yang Skill* taught by his Grandmaster and Uncle Yu, though sometimes differing significantly from what his Grandmaster and Uncle Yu had transmitted.
His heart pounded wildly. He closed the book and pondered, "What kind of scripture is this? Why does it contain phrases from the Wudang Nine Yang Skill? Yet it's not entirely the same as what the Wudang sect teaches. And there are more than ten times more texts?"
Thinking of this, he immediately remembered the story his grandmaster had told him when he took him to Shaolin Temple: His grandmaster's master, Master Jueyuan, learned the Nine Yang Manual and recited the text before his death. His grandmaster, the heroine Guo Xiang, and Master Wuse of the Shaolin sect each remembered a part of it, which greatly improved the martial arts of the Wudang, Emei, and Shaolin sects. For decades, they stood on equal footing and became famous throughout the martial arts world. "Could this be the stolen Nine Yang Manual? Yes, Grandmaster said it was written in the cracks of the Lankavatara Sutra. These winding characters must be from the Sanskrit Lankavatara Sutra. But why is it inside an ape's belly?"
This scripture was indeed the Nine Yang Manual, but how it was hidden inside an ape's belly remained a mystery to everyone at the time.
Over ninety years ago, Xiao Xiangzi and Yikexi stole this scripture from the Shaolin Temple's Sutra Pavilion. Master Jueyuan chased them all the way to the summit of Mount Hua. Seeing no way to escape, they found a gray ape nearby. The two devised a plan: they cut open the ape's belly and hid the scripture inside. Later, Jueyuan, Zhang Sanfeng, Yang Guo, and others searched Xiao Xiangzi and Yikexi but found no scripture. They then let them go down the mountain with the ape (see *The Return of the Condor Heroes*). The whereabouts of the Nine Yang Manual became a major mystery in the martial arts world for nearly a century. Later, Xiao Xiangzi and Yikexi, along with the ape, traveled to the Western Regions. Each harbored their own anxieties, fearing the other would master the martial arts within the scripture and kill them. They hesitated to retrieve the scripture from the ape's belly, ultimately arriving at Jingshen Peak in Kunlun Mountain. There, they engaged in a fierce battle, each severely wounded. This supreme internal energy cultivation manual remained within the ape's belly.
Xiao Xiangzi's martial arts were slightly superior to Yikexi's, but he had struck Master Jueyuan at the summit of Mount Hua. The recoil from the blow severely injured him, causing him to die before Yikexi could fight him. Before dying, Yikexi encountered He Zudao, one of the "Three Saints of Kunlun." His conscience troubled, he asked him to go to Shaolin Temple and inform Master Jueyuan that the scripture was inside the ape. However, he was delirious and incoherent, saying "The scripture is in the monkey," which He Zudao misheard as "Gold in oil." He Zudao kept his promise and indeed traveled to the Central Plains to tell Master Jueyuan the saying "gold is in oil." Jueyuan, unable to grasp its meaning, not only failed to understand but also caused a huge uproar, resulting in the emergence of the Wudang and Emei sects in the martial arts world.
As for the ape, it was quite fortunate. Feeding on fresh peaches in the Kunlun Mountains, it absorbed the essence of heaven and earth. After more than ninety years, it was still as agile as ever, and its long, black fur turned completely white, transforming it into a white ape. However, the scripture hidden in its belly pressed against its intestines, causing it frequent stomach aches, and the boils on its stomach would heal and flare up again and again. Only on this day, Zhang Wuji removed it, truly removing a major threat to the white ape.
Even those a hundred times more intelligent than Zhang Wuji could not fathom the intricacies of all this. Zhang Wuji was stunned for a while. Knowing that he could not figure it out, he stopped thinking about it. He took the big peach given to him by the white ape and took a bite. He felt a sweet juice slowly flowing into his throat. Compared with the unknown fruits in the valley, it was better than any other fruit.
After eating the peaches of immortality, Zhang Wuji thought, "My grandmaster once said that if I were to learn the Nine Yang Divine Skills of the Shaolin, Wudang, and Emei schools, I might be able to expel the Yin poison from my body. These three schools' Nine Yang Skills all originated from the Nine Yang Manual. If this manual is truly the Nine Yang Manual, then practicing it according to the book is far superior to learning the divine skills of the three schools separately. There's nothing else to do in this valley, so I'll just practice according to the book. Even if I'm wrong, and this manual is actually useless, or even harmful, at most I'll just die."
Without any doubts, he placed the three scrolls of the manual in a dry place, covered them with dry grass, and weighed them down with three large stones, fearing that the mischievous monkeys might play around and tear the manuals to shreds. He kept only the first scroll in his hand, first reciting it several times until he memorized it, and then studying and understanding it, starting from the very first sentence.
Besides practicing his martial arts every day, he played with the monkeys, always sharing half of the fruit he picked with Zhu Changling. He was carefree and unrestrained. But Zhu Changling, confined to a small platform, truly felt that each day was an eternity.
Chapter One.
This morning, Zhang Wuji played with the little monkey he had treated for a while, and then practiced the Nine Yang Divine Skill for a bit.
In the blink of an eye, it was noon, and his stomach began to grow hungry. So he caught a large white fish, roasted it, and ate it. He also picked a few peaches to share with the little monkey.
The little monkey was missing a tuft of hair on its head, so Zhang Wuji named it Little Leper. Over the days, his relationship with Little Leper had grown increasingly close.
The afternoon sun felt warm on his body. Zhang Wuji rubbed his slightly swollen belly, feeling a bit tired, and decided to take a nap first, and then prepare to build himself a small hut. Although the temperature in the valley wasn't low during the day, it was quite cold at night. Every morning, after sleeping outdoors, their clothes would be soaked with dew, sticking to their skin and causing considerable discomfort. Therefore, Zhang Wuji conceived the idea of building a shelter.
As Zhang Wuji lay dozing on a flat, large rock, bathed in the sun, he suddenly heard the chirping of a little toad. Thinking the toad had come to play, Zhang Wuji said, "Little toad, stop it, let me sleep for a while." He then turned over, ignoring the toad.
The toad, however, continued to chirp incessantly, tugging at Zhang Wuji's clothes. Helpless, Zhang Wuji opened his eyes and saw the toad grabbing him with one paw while pointing eastward in the valley with the other.
Zhang Wuji's heart skipped a beat. He sat up and asked, "Little Lai'er, what's wrong?" He chuckled after asking, thinking, "How can I ask a monkey a question? Even if Little Lai'er understands, how could it answer?" Seeing Little Lai'er's anxious expression, as if something had happened in the East Valley, he stood up.
Seeing Zhang Wuji get up, Little Lai'er jumped off the stone platform and darted eastward. Zhang Wuji followed closely, thinking, "Has another little monkey been injured?" After
walking for more than a mile, Zhang Wuji realized that the route they were taking was in the direction of the entrance to the valley cave, and he couldn't help but feel a little worried. Following Little Lai'er, they soon arrived at the northeast corner of the valley, where the entrance to the valley cave was located.
Zhang Wuji proceeded cautiously. When he was about half a mile from the cave entrance, he suddenly saw three figures directly below. Startled, he quickly waved to Xiao Lai'er and hid behind a large tree.
Xiao Lai'er nimbly turned and leaped onto Zhang Wuji's shoulder.
Peering from behind the tree, Zhang Wuji couldn't see clearly due to the dense shadows and swaying branches. He listened intently, and two delicate voices reached his ears intermittently. Although he couldn't hear them clearly, he vaguely guessed the identities of the three, and his body trembled slightly.
After listening for a while behind the tree, although he couldn't understand what the three were saying, he vaguely heard them speaking hurriedly, as if they were arguing.
Zhang Wuji hesitated for a moment, then cautiously crept forward. When he was about twenty feet away from the three, he climbed a pear tree and hid among the snow-white pear blossoms, peering ahead. Three figures came into clear view: one man and two women, exactly the three he had guessed. The woman standing on the far left, dressed in white, was slender and graceful; she was Zhu Jiuzhen, whom Zhang Wuji had once been infatuated with but now hated. The man sitting on the ground in the middle had delicate features, wore a light yellow silk robe, and had one arm hanging limply with a pained expression; he was Wei Bi, Zhu Jiuzhen's cousin. The woman on the far right had skin as white as jade, beautiful features, and a slender, petite figure, exquisitely dressed in black; she was Wu Qingying, Wei Bi's junior sister.
At this moment, Zhu Jiuzhen and Wu Qingying were arguing incessantly around Wei Bi, one on each side. Zhang Wuji was downwind, and the conversation between Zhu Jiuzhen and Wu Qingying reached his ears clearly.
Wu Qingying said, "It's all your fault. If you hadn't insisted on rushing in, Senior Brother wouldn't have been injured."
Zhu Jiuzhen said, "How is it my fault? It should be your fault! Wasn't it your idea for the three of us to go into this cave to catch that thief?"
Wu Qingying snorted and said, "The idea was good, but I didn't suggest you pretend to be injured. If you hadn't cried out in pain, Senior Brother wouldn't have forced his way into this cave, and his arm wouldn't have broken."
Zhu Jiuzhen "What do you mean by pretending to be injured? I'm not injured! I have a few bloody scratches on my chest from the rocks!"
Zhu Jiuzhen retorted angrily. "Your breasts are too big, you can't even fit through a cave. Whose fault is that?"
Zhu Jiuzhen was furious. "You..." She was only seventeen years old. Although she had a slender figure and a very alluring and beautiful face, her breasts and buttocks were too plump. Every time she saw Wu Qingying's delicate and exquisite figure, she felt quite jealous and envious. Now Wu Qingying had hit her sore spot, leaving her speechless with anger.
Wei Bi leaned against the stone wall, feeling excruciating pain emanating from his arm, several times more painful than the fracture he had suffered during the New Year. It made him dizzy and lightheaded, probably because the broken bone had pierced his flesh. The two voices beside him, which were originally clear and melodious and which he loved to hear, now buzzed around him like flies, irritating him greatly. Wei Bi couldn't help but shout, "Ladies, my shoulder hurts so much! You're making
such a racket, can you please be quiet?" Upon hearing his words, the two women immediately stopped arguing and nestled to either side of Wei Bi, gently comforting him in unison.
All three of them came from wealthy families and, although they were all martial artists, they were used to being waited on hand and foot by servants and had never learned any traditional Chinese medicine for sprains and fractures. Now, they were helpless against this minor injury. While comforting Wei Bi, the two women secretly thought, "If only I had learned some bone-setting techniques, wouldn't I be able to relieve my cousin's pain and please him greatly?"
Suddenly, a powerful voice came from the cave above them: "Zhen'er, Bi'er, are you alright?
Where is Bi'er injured? Is it in any way?" The voice was extremely loud, clearly indicating that the person inside the cave was deliberately infusing their inner strength so that the three in the valley wouldn't hear. Zhang Wuji heard it clearly from among the pear blossoms; it was Wu Lie's voice, and he was startled again.
Wu Qingying cried, "My senior brother's arm is broken! He's in so much pain! What should we do? Father..."
Wu Lie angrily said, "I told you to learn some techniques for treating injuries, but you thought it was the way of quack doctors!" "You just wouldn't learn, now you know how dangerous it is, right?"
Wu Qingying said, "Father, quickly think of a way! Can you get in? My senior brother's injury will get much worse if left untreated..."
Wu Lie said, "This cave is a hundred feet long, and the front is extremely narrow. The three of you haven't fully grown yet, so you can barely squeeze through, but your Uncle Zhu and I can't."
Wu Qingying said anxiously, "Then find someone to widen this cave."
Wu Lie said, "This cave is so long, the rocks are all granite, and the terrain is steep and remote. To widen this..." "This cave... I'm afraid it won't be open for ten years!"
Wu Qingying cried. "What should we do, Father?"
Wu Lie thought for a moment and said, "You're the most slender one, can you crawl back?"
Wu Qingying said, "This cave is more than ten feet above the ground. Zhenjie and I just tried, and neither of us can jump that high. The surrounding area is bare. Moreover, the cave slopes downwards, and the exit is extremely small. It's difficult for me to even crawl out, so I'm afraid I can't crawl back in."
Wu Lie suddenly said, "I've thought of a way. You go find that little thief Zhang Wuji. That little thief knows some medical skills. He can definitely help Bi'er set her hand bone."
Wu Qingying was overjoyed and said, "Ah, that's it! How come I didn't think of that?" Zhang
Wuji, who was in the distance, was startled when he heard this. He thought, "If they catch me, won't they force me to go find my godfather again? Even if I can't get out of the cave, being caught and tortured by them would be very bad." So he prepared to climb down the tree and quietly escape.
Unexpectedly, in his panic, he accidentally broke a branch, making a "snap" sound.
Wei Bi, born into a wealthy family, had never suffered such a severe injury despite practicing martial arts since childhood. Sitting on the ground, waves of sharp, aching pain shot through his broken bones, driving him to the brink of madness.
That day, Zhu Changling had fallen off the cliff with Zhang Wuji. For the sake of the Dragon-Slaying Saber, and at Zhu Jiuzhen's tearful pleas, Wei Bi, Wu Lie, Wu Qingying, and Zhu Jiuzhen had searched the cliff edge for over a month, lowering ropes to probe the way, finally finding the cave leading into the valley. Upon seeing Zhu Changling, they found him emaciated and pale.
If Zhang Wuji hadn't regularly given him fruit, he would likely have died of hunger and thirst long ago.
After Zhu Changling recounted Zhang Wuji's journey into the valley, Wu Qingying, quick-witted, said, "Father, Uncle Zhu, our skeletons haven't fully developed yet, our bones are still soft. Could we enter this cave?"
The other four were overjoyed and thought it worth a try.
Hearing the suggestion, Zhu Jiuzhen felt that Wu Qingying had stolen the limelight from her, and considering her father's rescue, she harbored a competitive spirit. She immediately led the way into the cave, with Wei Bi quickly following behind, and Wu Qingying bringing up the rear.
Zhu Jiuzhen crawled into the cave, moving forward for several dozen feet before the cave narrowed. Her figure was slender, but her breasts and buttocks were extremely full, and the sharp rocks on the cave walls caused her considerable pain. However, driven by her competitive spirit, she endured the pain and continued crawling forward. Finally, just as she was about to exit the cave, the sharp rocks beneath her scraped her delicate breasts, leaving several bloody marks through her clothes. Feeling the pain, Zhu Jiuzhen cried out, struggled forward, and fell out of the cave entrance into the valley.
Hearing Zhu Jiuzhen's cry of pain ahead, Wei Bi panicked, fearing something might have happened to her. He hurried forward, but accidentally bumped his arm against a large rock. At first, he felt little pain, just a numbness and inability to move. After leaping into the valley, he found Zhu Jiuzhen unharmed, only shyly telling him about a minor scratch on her chest. Looking at his cousin's slightly embarrassed face, Wei Bi imagined several bright scratches on her full, delicate, white breasts, and his heart fluttered. It wasn't until the sharp pain in his right arm pulled him back to reality that he found his right arm limp and unable to move. His right arm had been fractured by Zhang Wuji and hadn't fully healed, although the previous injury hadn't been too severe, and the bone hadn't shifted. Now, the impact with the large rock had reopened the old injury, making it much worse; the bone had shifted and was embedded in his flesh, causing him excruciating pain.
Wu Qingying was petite and could barely squeeze through the narrow cave. She crawled out of the cave and saw that her senior brother had broken his leg. She was both anxious and angry and immediately blamed Zhu Jiuzhen, and they started arguing.
The two women, Zhu and Wu, were of similar age and both stunningly beautiful, like spring orchids and autumn chrysanthemums, each with their own unique strengths. Their family martial arts were also equally matched, and two or three years ago, they were collectively known as the "Snow Ridge Twin Beauties" by the martial arts community of Kunlun. They had long been secretly competing, so whenever the three of them were together, while outwardly polite, the two women engaged in a fierce verbal battle, neither willing to yield. However, Wu Qingying was more reserved and less shrewd, and her cunning was deeper. Since she studied under Wei Bi and saw him daily, she had an advantage over Zhu Jiuzhen.
In Wei Bi's eyes, his cousin was slender and voluptuous, alluring and beautiful; his junior sister was petite and delicate, with snow-white skin and a youthful face. The two women were completely different styles, yet it was difficult to say which was better, making Wei Bi feel like he had to choose between two equally desirable women. He couldn't help but think of marrying both of them, often secretly imagining how the martial arts world of the Northwest would envy them both. The idea of the three of them sleeping together after marriage would be an unparalleled blessing. However, since the two women were both favored daughters of heaven, this thought was not yet feasible. They could indulge in fantasies alone, but uttering it aloud was out of the question.
As the three hesitated, they suddenly heard the sound of a branch breaking in the distance and turned to look. About twenty feet away, a pear tree was in full bloom, its leaves swaying, and a thin figure was running westward beneath it.
Zhu Jiuzhen was overjoyed and exclaimed, "Speak of the devil! The little devil is here! Quickly, catch him!"
Wu Qingying quickly pulled Zhu Jiuzhen aside and shouted, "Brother Wuji, we've found you! Don't run! We won't hurt you!" She then glared at Zhu Jiuzhen.
Zhu Jiuzhen suddenly realized what was happening and quickly chased after him with Wu Qingying.
As Zhang Wuji ran, he was filled with self-reproach, thinking, "Zhang Wuji, how could you be so careless... Humph, if I didn't run, would I wait for you to catch me and take me to harm my godfather?" He carried Xiao Lai'er and fled with all his might, but his body was weak and he had an old ailment, and Zhu Wu and his companion were getting closer and closer.
Seeing that he could not escape, Zhang Wuji suddenly remembered Zhu Jiuzhen's evil act of driving her dog to bite the monkey when they first met. He quickly threw Xiao Lai'er onto a tree and said, "Xiao Lai'er, run! These are bad people. Never go near them again." As he spoke, Zhang Wuji's legs gave way, and he stumbled and fell to the ground.
Xiao Lai'er looked at Zhang Wuji on the ground, squeaked twice, turned its head, climbed onto the branches, and jumped and ran away, disappearing from sight in a short while.
Zhang Wuji knew that this time the chances of survival were slim, so he did not stand up, but just sat on the ground watching the two women getting closer and closer.
Zhu Jiuzhen rushed to Zhang Wuji, her face now a smiling one, and said softly, "Brother Wuji, I've finally found you."
Looking at the beautiful face before him, Zhang Wuji thought of Zhu Jiuzhen's deception and malicious words, and suddenly found her repulsive. He coldly said, "What do you want? To lead you to harm my godfather?"
Zhu Jiuzhen's expression faltered only slightly before her smile became even more alluring. She said sweetly, "Brother Wuji, you think too little of me. You've protected Hero Xie so much, how could I possibly betray you? Come back with me, let's live a good life together forever, okay?"
Seeing her charming face, her radiant smile, her fair and smooth skin, and her cherry-red lips that moved with her words, Zhang Wuji was momentarily lost in thought, but then suddenly remembered his mother's words: "Child, when you grow up, beware of women deceiving you. The more beautiful a woman is, the more likely she is to lie." Suddenly snapping back to reality, she said bitterly, "You're a vicious woman! I'll never trust you again! Unless you kill me, don't even think about going back with you!"
Zhu Jiuzhen had lived her entire life surrounded by flattery and praise; she had never been insulted, especially not in front of her rival. A surge of anger welled up within her, and she was about to lash out. Just as she raised her hand, Wu Qingying pulled her back. Wu Qingying stepped in front of her and bowed respectfully to Zhang Wuji.
Wu Qingying looked at the young man before her. He had an oval face, sword-like eyebrows, large eyes, a high nose, and thin lips. His slightly raised eyebrows exuded a cold arrogance. She couldn't help but think to herself, "This young man is also handsome, not inferior to my senior brother, but he's too thin. My senior brother is too effeminate; he's not as dashing as him..."
As she thought this, she bowed to Zhang Wuji and said, "Brother Wuji, I'm sorry."
Zhang Wuji looked at Wu Qingying coldly and said, "What kind of trick are you trying to pull now?"
Wu Qingying wasn't angry at his words. She smiled and said, "Brother Wuji, my sister Zhen was wrong to you before. I apologize on her behalf. Please forgive her. Now that my senior brother is injured, and your medical skills are superb, I would like to ask you to help set his arm bone. Otherwise, he... he'll become a cripple." As she spoke, her eyes reddened, her face darkened, and her long eyelashes fluttered as if she were about to cry.
Zhu Jiuzhen, listening to Wu Qingying seemingly placing all the blame on herself while pretending to be a good person, was furious, inwardly cursing her as a "little bitch." However, she was also worried that Zhang Wuji wouldn't treat her cousin's injuries, so she remained silent.
Zhang Wuji saw that Wu Qingying's skin was like jade, her features beautiful as a painting, and her pretty face held a childlike innocence. Her large, watery eyes were clear and bright, and her tearful appearance was particularly heart-wrenching. His heart softened for no reason, and his tone softened slightly as he said, "If you heal him, can you bully me?"
Wu Qingying quickly replied, "No, no, if you heal my brother's injuries, I'll be grateful to you. We're trapped in this valley now and can't get out anytime soon, so we should all get along well."
From afar, Zhang Wuji saw Wei Bi with a broken arm, looking extremely painful. He knew that if Wei Bi wasn't treated promptly, it would be very detrimental to his recovery. He thought this through, knowing it was wrong, but his kind nature ultimately prevailed, so he said, "Alright then, but after helping Minister Wei heal his injuries, it's best if we go our separate ways."
Wu Qingying was overjoyed, her tears turning to laughter, and she bowed deeply again, saying, "Thank you so much, Brother Wuji."
In that instant, her jade-like face softened like a spring breeze, beautiful and pure like a budding flower, leaving Zhang Wuji stunned once more.
Seeing Zhang Wuji's expression as he looked at her without saying a word, Wu Qingying felt extremely proud, her smile becoming even more charming and innocent. Zhang Wuji felt his heart pounding, thinking, "Although this Wu family woman is not as alluring as Zhu Jiuzhen, she is seven parts more innocent, and her beauty is no less than Zhu Jiuzhen's." He dared not look at Wu Qingying any longer and followed behind her with his head down.
Zhu Jiuzhen cursed inwardly, "Little vixen, anyone can use seductive tricks! If I wanted, I could too, humph!"
Zhang Wuji followed the two women to the bottom of the cave, where he saw Wei Bi sitting on the ground, looking extremely weak, his right arm hanging limply. After Wu Qingying explained, Zhang Wuji stepped forward and said, "Master Wei, I will help you put your arm back in place, but it will be quite painful, so you will have to bear it."
After Wei Bi nodded, Zhang Wuji grasped his forearm with one hand and placed the other on his shoulder. Just as he was about to apply force, Wei Bi suddenly shouted, "Let go, it hurts so much!"
Zhang Wuji quickly released his grip and saw that Wei Bi's forehead was covered in sweat, and he was glaring at him with gritted teeth, as if Zhang Wuji had broken his bones. Seeing Zhu Jiuzhen glaring at him with a gloomy expression, Zhang Wuji felt a little scared and took a step back.
Wu Qingying quickly nestled beside Wei Bi, softly saying, "Senior Brother, you are a true man, please be patient." She wiped the sweat from Wei Bi's forehead with a silk handkerchief, then said to Zhang Wuji, "Little Brother Wuji, please be gentle."
Zhang Wuji composed himself and said to Wu Qingying, "Miss Wu, please put the handkerchief in Master Wei's mouth; I'm afraid he'll bite his tongue when the pain becomes unbearable." He then said to Wei Bi, "Master Wei, close your eyes, I'll be quick."
As Zhang Wuji began setting Wei Bi's bones, a series of high-pitched, piercing screams echoed through the valley…
After using a wooden stick to stabilize Wei Bi's broken bones, Zhang Wuji wiped the sweat from his brow; he was still dizzy from Wei Bi's scream. Wei Bi, pale and covered in sweat, was being wiped away by Zhu Jiuzhen.
Wei Bi trembled for a moment before slowly standing up. He looked at Zhang Wuji with a fierce and sinister expression.
Zhang Wuji instinctively sensed something was wrong and tried to turn and run, but suddenly a long, shapely leg reached out from the side, its delicate boots gently hooking him, causing him to trip.
Zhang Wuji awkwardly raised his head, only to see two women smiling maliciously. He couldn't tell whether it was Zhu Jiuzhen or Wu Qingying who had just tripped him.
He heard Wei Bi say fiercely, "You brat, you hurt me so much! You must have done it on purpose!"
Zhang Wuji was filled with regret, cursing himself for his momentary weakness and falling for the villain's trick again.
Zhu Jiuzhen drew her long sword from her waist and walked up to Wei Bi, saying, "Cousin, don't be angry. Let me kill him for you."
She had previously begged Zhang Wuji to treat Wei Bi's injuries but was instead humiliated, losing face in front of Wu Qingying, which greatly angered her.
Seeing Wei Bi's unbearable pain just now, she unconsciously channeled her heartache into anger towards Zhang Wuji. Wanting to gain favor and credit in front of Wei Bi, she harbored murderous intent towards him.
Zhu Jiuzhen turned to Zhang Wuji and said coldly, "You brat, you deliberately acted clumsily, causing my cousin so much pain. I'll kill you!" With that, she raised her sword to strike Zhang Wuji.
Zhang Wuji lay on the ground, seeing that although Zhu Jiuzhen was beautiful, her expression was very sinister, her phoenix eyes shooting out cruel and contemptuous glances. He couldn't help but feel disheartened, thinking, "So be it. I thought that the heavens had truly been kind to me, arranging this paradise for me to be buried. I never thought my words would come true... Zhang Wuji, Zhang Wuji, I hope you won't be a good person in vain in your next life..." Thinking this, he closed his eyes, preparing to wait for death.
Zhu Jiuzhen was about to strike Zhang Wuji with her sword, but Wu Qingying grabbed her and shook her head.
Zhu Jiuzhen suddenly realized the purpose of her trip; she couldn't kill this brat now. However, her anger was hard to quell, and thinking that Zhang Wuji wouldn't fall for it again, she wanted to cut off Zhang Wuji's arm to vent her anger. Just as she raised her sword, a deafening roar suddenly came from the western forest.
Caught off guard, Wei Bi, Zhu Jiuzhen, and Wu Qingying were terrified by the roar, their ears ringing as they wondered what kind of ferocious beast could utter such a terrifying sound. Looking west, they saw the trees rustling, pear blossoms falling in a flurry from the roar, and a snow-white monster, about seven feet tall, leaping out of the woods. It charged towards them on all fours, followed by a dozen or so small monkeys.
Zhang Wuji, though his ears were also ringing from the familiar roar, was overjoyed.
Wei Bi, Zhu Jiuzhen, and Wu Qingying stared in horror at the monster emerging from the woods. The monster was entirely white, but its face was as black as the bottom of a pot, with a pointed snout, monkey-like cheeks, deep-set eyes, a flat nose, and bared, sharp white teeth. It roared loudly as it ran. With each step its limbs took, the three felt a slight tremor beneath their feet, as if an earthquake had struck.
In the blink of an eye, the giant beast was upon them, charging straight at the three without slowing down. This beast was hideously ugly, like a demon straight out of a fantasy novel.
Wei Bi, startled by the rapidly approaching beast, trembled slightly. Suddenly, he shouted, turned, and fled.
Wu Qingying, ever alert, quickly followed Wei Bi, running south. Zhu Jiuzhen stared blankly at the beast, then suddenly screamed, threw down her sword, and also fled in panic.
The three of them exerted all their strength, using their lightness skills to speed southeast. The monster chased them for over a mile before letting out a threatening roar and turning back. It reached Zhang Wuji, stretched out a thick arm, and pulled him into its embrace.
Zhang Wuji stroked the giant beast's face and said gratefully, "Thank you, Grandpa White Ape." The white ape looked at Zhang Wuji, its small eyes revealing a gentle gaze that belied its ferocious appearance, and rubbed Zhang Wuji's head with its other large hand.
At this moment, Little Toad scurried from the ground onto Zhang Wuji's shoulder, squeaking. Zhang Wuji smiled gratefully, patted Little Toad's head, and said, "Little Toad, thank you for calling Grandpa White Ape to save me."
As he spoke, he lowered his head, secretly making a vow in his heart: "Mommy, I will never let anyone bully me again. If anyone bullies me again, I will repay them tenfold!"
A white waterfall cascaded like a ribbon, the clear pool rippling, its depths unfathomable. The surrounding woods were lush, with clusters of bamboo shadows.
A young man, shirtless, was using pool water to mix mud and build an earthen wall.
It was nearly noon. The boy, wiping the sweat from his brow as he looked at the earthen wall that was as tall as a person, was about to continue his grand plan of building a house when he suddenly heard a squeaking sound coming from the edge of the woods. A
slight smile appeared on his face. He ran to the pond, washed his hands, then picked up a jar and two large white fish tied with straw ropes from the water and ran towards the edge of the woods.
The valley had been uninhabited for countless years, so ancient trees towered everywhere. Although it was the height of summer, the edge of the woods was shady and cool, a perfect place to escape the heat. Under the trees, several large cattail leaves were spread out, piled high with palm-sized peaches and two snow melons. A dozen or so monkeys scratched their heads around the fruit, but none of them touched it. A huge white ape sat motionless at the base of a tree, as still as an old monk in meditation. About three feet away from the fruit, there was a small fire, its glow faintly red despite being obscured by ashes. The monkeys, afraid of fire, kept their distance.
The boy rushed closer, first calling out "Grandpa White Ape," then glancing at the mountain of peaches, he exclaimed in amazement, "Wow! Little rascals, where did you pick so many peaches?"
The monkeys seemed to understand his praise, leaping and squeaking.
It was midsummer, and the peaches in the valley had ripened half a month ago, either picked or rotted.
However, other fruits in the valley were not yet ripe, resulting in a temporary fruit shortage.
Although there were few peaches left in the valley, the monkeys had a way of getting them elsewhere. One day, the boy saw the monkeys climbing higher and higher up the steep cliff, eventually disappearing from sight. When the monkeys returned to the valley, each carried two or three palm-sized peaches. Clearly, there were fruit trees higher up, but the fruit ripened later than in the valley.
The boy picked up the largest peach and tossed it to the white ape, smiling at the monkeys, "Grandpa eats first; respect your elders." The white ape caught it, popped it into its mouth, and began to chew it whole.
The boy took another peach, bit into it, and waved his hand. The monkeys immediately swarmed around him. With a peach in
his mouth, the boy picked up his longsword, scaled and gutted two white fish, blew on the fire, and began to roast the fish. As he roasted the fish, he smiled at the monkeys, "You're all in for a treat! These two fish are huge; we definitely won't be able to finish them today."
Seeing the boy roasting the fish, the monkeys all took peaches and obediently sat around the fire, eating while watching the boy work. After a while, the white fish were roasted to a golden brown, exuding a rich, fatty aroma. Seeing that the fish were cooked, the boy laughed again, "Don't rush, don't rush, there's plenty. These two fish probably weigh thirty pounds, more than we can eat. Wait a little longer... sprinkle some salt... and we're done, haha!" With that, the boy chopped the cooked fish into a dozen or so pieces with his longsword, respectfully placing the fattest piece in front of the white ape, saying, "Grandpa, please eat first." The white ape glanced at the boy and accepted it readily. Then the boy distributed the fish pieces to the monkeys.
Watching the monkeys wolfing down their food, the boy scolded, "Look how greedy you are! I have something else good, look!"
As he spoke, he picked up the jar, broke the seal, and a fragrant aroma of wine wafted out. The monkeys, smelling the aroma, twitched their little noses, greedily eyeing the jar. The young man smiled and picked up a pile of rough earthenware bowls beside him, filling each one, saying, "One bowl each, but don't drink too much, we still have work to do this afternoon."
The monkeys squeaked excitedly, the aroma of wine filling the shady woods.
...
A gentle breeze blew by, caressing the young man's bare chest. He had grown much taller in the past three months, and with the cultivation of the Nine Yang Divine Skill, the cold poison in his body had been completely eliminated. Playing with the monkeys all day and doing physical labor had made him rapidly stronger. Beneath his fair skin, muscles were beginning to take shape.
He drank a bowl of wine, his handsome face slightly flushed. The strong aftereffects of the monkey wine made him feel somewhat lightheaded, the Nine Yang internal energy flowing warmly throughout his body, giving him seemingly inexhaustible strength. Recalling the scene he witnessed last night, he felt a surge of heat coursing through him. He smashed a snow melon, slowly savoring its juicy sweetness.
The monkeys seemed intoxicated, some sprawled, some lying on the grass under the shade of the trees, while the white ape leaned against an old tree root, also displaying a contented and languid expression.
Suddenly, a "crack" rang out—the sound of a dry branch snapping. The boy jerked his head up, looking towards the source of the sound. A white dress fluttered through a gap in the trees.
The boy called out alertly, "Who's there? Come out!"
The white figure hesitated for a moment, lingering behind the tree, before finally emerging slowly.
Upon seeing the person, the boy's expression turned icy cold. After a long pause, he managed to squeeze out a few words through clenched teeth: "Zhu Jiuzhen..."
