The picturesque city of S is a beautiful city in the hilly region of southern China, surrounded by towering mountains. Shirley was born in this scenic city. Just then, Shirley's mother came out of her room and asked, "Daughter, where are you going so early?" Shirley replied, "Mom, I'm going to Yangmingshan to take some landscape photos. I haven't been there in ages." "Oh," Shirley's mother responded, then added, "Remember to come back early. I'll be waiting for you for lunch." Shirley smiled and said to her mother, "Okay, I know, dear Mom!" She then put on a pair of black high heels, slung a delicate leather handbag over her shoulder, grabbed her camera, and headed out. She drove her Peugeot 3008 towards Yangmingshan. It was early autumn, the air crisp and clear. Shirley opened the car window, and a cool, refreshing breeze blew into her beloved car. She was overjoyed and greedily took several deep breaths of the clear air. The car drove out of S City and slowly approached Yangmingshan. Suddenly, a traffic jam appeared ahead, a long line of cars stretching as far as the eye could see, with many drivers standing anxiously outside their vehicles. Shirley got out of the car too. She wanted to know what had happened, so she asked the driver next to her, "Sir, what happened up ahead? Why is it so congested?" "You don't know? Several cars were rear-ended up ahead, and it seems several people died. The traffic police are handling it now, but I don't know when it will be open. Ugh! I have urgent business to attend to!" the driver said anxiously. Shirley returned to her car. After thinking for a moment, she decided to take a less-known side road. She frequently went to Yangmingshan and knew every road leading there. She drove out of the long queue, turned, and entered a side road. After a few more turns, she could no longer see any cars. This was a small, abandoned road built in the early days of the People's Republic of China. Because strange sightings had been reported there, causing considerable panic in S City, no one used it anymore. Shirley found this ridiculous and didn't care. She drove in; it was the sparsest road leading to Yangmingshan. There wasn't a single pedestrian or car on the road; Shirley and her beloved car were the only passengers. The sun was still shining brightly. Because of its long abandonment, the roadside had regained its natural beauty, with lush vegetation, fragrant flowers, and birds chirping merrily in the trees. Shirley was delighted. She thought, "I made the right choice today; this place is so beautiful!" So she slowed down and leisurely enjoyed the scenery along the way. Just then, dark clouds appeared on the horizon, moving incredibly fast and quickly covering most of the sky. Shirley stopped her car, watching the darkening sky, and muttered to herself, "What awful weather! What a downer!" She prepared to turn back when suddenly a bright, fiery red lightning bolt struck, exploding beside her car.
Shirley screamed in fright and slammed on the accelerator, the engine roaring to life, propelling the car forward at breakneck speed. A clap of thunder followed, and large raindrops began to pelt down. The raindrops struck Shirley's car, making a chilling pattering sound, like someone knocking on her door. She looked around; there was no one there. Growing increasingly frightened, she regretted choosing this abandoned road. She continued driving at breakneck speed. Another thunderclap exploded beside Shirley's car. She screamed and slammed the accelerator to the floor. The engine roared to life, and the car accelerated rapidly, now exceeding 140 km/h. The abandoned road was riddled with potholes, and Shirley found the car increasingly difficult to control. Suddenly, she saw something running at high speed along the roadside. Was it an animal? No, animals couldn't run like humans. Was it a human? No, humans weren't that short. Shirley grew increasingly terrified, remembering the legends about this road, and gasped. All she wanted now was to escape this terrifying place as quickly as possible. A sharp bend appeared ahead. Because of her excessive speed, Shirley couldn't navigate the bend. As she entered the curve, the car lost control and crashed into a large tree by the roadside. The airbags deployed rapidly, and Shirley's head slammed violently against one, bouncing back. The impact knocked her unconscious.
