Lost Island 1-14

(1)

I remember it was the summer after my first year of high school.

That day, Cheng Zijun, who was still a month shy of turning 16, was engrossed in playing Sekiro in bed
when he was suddenly summoned by his parents. Reluctantly, he put down his PS4 controller, pushed open the door,
and went into the living room. He found his parents already sitting upright on the sofa, waiting for him.

They sat at opposite ends of the long sofa; his mother had her arms crossed, her face cold, and she
didn't say a word; his father, holding his large thermos, kept checking his watch and adjusting his glasses. After a while,
he pretended to blow on the steam from the thermos, sipped the hot tea a couple of times, and remained silent.

Seeing this, Cheng Zijun already had a pretty good idea—these two had definitely argued again!

This situation was all too familiar to Cheng Zijun. Every time they argued, they would give each other the silent treatment,
neither speaking to the other. He, as their son, always had to act as the mediator, relaying their messages, even though they
were less than two feet apart.

Cheng Zijun was already very adept at this situation. He casually
sat down on the sofa next to them and asked:

"So, who are you making peace with this time?"

Dad coughed a few times, picked up his thermos, blew on the rim, and then
carefully sipped the goji berry tea inside, as if afraid of getting burned. He reluctantly put the thermos
down, then habitually pushed up his glasses…

After this series of tedious preparations, he leaned forward slightly, repeatedly
rubbing his fingers as if carefully choosing his words, before finally saying,

"Xiao Jun, well, uh…"

Just as Dad was about to launch into a long speech, Mom, finally losing patience, interrupted him:

"Son, your dad and I have decided to divorce, but don't worry, your dad and mom will always love you."

The father seemed very unhappy about being interrupted. His already
gloomy face darkened further, turning into a hard, dark charcoal. He complained to the mother,

"You! Didn't we agree that I would be the one to say it? Why did you have to interrupt me again!"

The mother shrugged weakly and said,

"I'll wait for you to speak. I don't think we'll get to the point by tomorrow morning..."

The father wanted to argue, saying,

"Xiao Jun is still young. We have to be careful how we talk to him. You've made things so blunt
. Have you thought about what if he can't accept it? Have you considered his feelings?"

The mother felt a chill run down her spine, sensing that her father was about to launch into another long-winded speech. She said,

"Fine, fine, you're a university professor. I don't know as much about education as you do, okay?"

The father continued...

"It's not that I want to argue with you, I'm just trying to explain this to you. Boys like Xiaojun at this age
haven't fully formed their values yet, and their psychological defense mechanisms aren't fully developed. They're easily hurt, and can easily suffer
psychological trauma. We need to proceed gradually and be mindful of our methods..."

"Dad,"

Cheng Zijun, sitting beside him, finally couldn't hold back any longer and interrupted,

"Dad, Mom, I support you. As the saying goes, forced love is never sweet. Since your feelings have faded, there's no
need to force yourselves to stay together. I understand all of this."

His parents both looked at Cheng Zijun, somewhat surprised.

"Xiaojun..."

Cheng Zijun waved his hand and said,

"You don't need to say anything more. Every time you two are together these past few years, you argue. I
'm exhausted from trying to mediate. Just get a divorce already, so you don't keep causing me so much worry."

His parents were speechless, never expecting their high school son to say such a thing.

"By the way, after you two divorce, who will I live with?"

Cheng Zijun suddenly threw out another bombshell question, leaving his parents flustered and at a loss for words.

His father spoke first:

"Uh, well, it's like this, your mother and I discussed it. Since I teach at a university, I
have some advantages in education, well, that. As for your mother, well, you know, she's a dancer
, she's often performing, rehearsing, and traveling abroad frequently, so
it's better for your education if you stay with me."

Surprisingly, his mother didn't interrupt his string of "this and that" this time, but waited until he finished before
adding:

"Son, you'll continue to live here with your father. I'll come to see you often. I've
talked to your father, and he doesn't object."

His father quickly added:

"Yes, yes, he doesn't object. If you miss your mother, she can come to see you anytime, or you
can go and stay with her for a few days."

Cheng Zijun then asked:

"So, Mom, where will you live?"

His mother smiled and said:

"Mom will go back to your grandma's house for a few days, and then look for a place near the dance troupe. Don't worry, Mom
won't go far."

Cheng Zijun crossed his legs, tilted his head, thought for a long time, and finally slapped his thigh and said,

"Okay, I agree. Let's settle it like this."

After saying that, he patted his butt, got up, and went back to his room to continue his battle with Sekiro.

Initially, Cheng Zijun's parents were worried that their son's nonchalance was an act, so they observed
him for several days. They found that he really acted as if nothing was wrong, which made them feel a little
uneasy.

Next came the divorce proceedings.

They separated amicably, without any conflict of interest or extramarital affairs; simply
put, it was a matter of incompatibility.

The father, Cheng Tingxuan, nearing fifty, was a steady, somewhat old-fashioned, and rigid man, a bit
talkative. He was a university professor, and his hobbies included reading books and newspapers, and occasionally taking a stroll in the park.
She's already practically retired, having practiced a couple of Tai Chi routines.

Her mother, Yang Keru, shares the same birthday as Cheng Zijun and will turn 40 next month. A renowned
dancer, she frequently represents her troupe on national tours and even international performances. Her artistic background and
extensive travels have fostered a free-spirited and adventurous personality; she loves romance, freedom, and
spontaneous travel.

Yang Keru was initially attracted to Cheng Tingxuan by his refined, intellectual air, but after marriage,
she discovered they had almost nothing in common. Over the years, they've never
traveled together, never seen a performance together, and never had a romantic date, leaving Yang Keru deeply dissatisfied. On
the other hand, Yang Keru was far from Cheng Tingxuan's ideal of a virtuous wife and loving mother, a devoted wife and mother. As a result,
their conflicts deepened, finally erupting after their son entered high school, leading to their
divorce.

It's quite strange, considering they argued almost daily when they were together, but now that it's time for divorce
, they're surprisingly calm.

The two families amicably arranged everything. Yang Keru even suggested taking
her son on a trip abroad before his summer vacation ended, giving them both an unforgettable birthday.

Cheng Tingxuan initially wanted to nag, but ultimately held back. He told his son to have fun
, be careful, and listen to his mother.

Yang Keru also compromised; instead of choosing high-risk destinations like Africa, Latin America, or Antarctica that
might displease Cheng Tingxuan, she opted for the popular and moderate Phuket Island as
their travel destination. If it were up to her usual temperament, she
would absolutely never go back to these places she'd visited countless times.

Finally, in early July, the mother and son set off.

It was Cheng Zijun's first time abroad, and he was incredibly excited, finding everything new and exciting. His mother, Yang Keru, was also
infected by her son's excitement. The two of them played and frolicked without restraint. She felt she hadn't had so much
fun in years, as if she had returned to the novelty of her first time performing abroad with her dance troupe when she was young.

On the boat trip back to Phuket, the mother and son leaned against the cabin window, chatting and laughing. Yang Keru wore
a light beach dress that perfectly accentuated her beautiful curves, a result of years of dance training. Cheng Zijun kept unconsciously
glancing at his mother's full breasts, then quickly averting his gaze shyly.

Yang Keru, a dancer by profession, naturally embodies the beauty of the body in her work. Therefore, even though she noticed her son's shifty gaze, she paid it no mind and continued her conversation with him
openly and naturally . Gradually, Cheng Zijun found himself unable to keep up with his mother's conversation, as most of his attention was drawn to her large breasts. After a long while, Cheng Zijun seemed to be talking to himself as he whispered, "Mom, you're so beautiful." Yang Keru giggled and said, "Oh, my son has learned to praise his mother too? Tell me, what do you think is beautiful about me?" The son quickly glanced at his mother's large breasts, swallowed hard, and said, "Everything about you is beautiful, everything is beautiful..." Yang Keru poked her son's forehead and said, "If you want to look, then look openly. What are you doing, looking like a thief! You don't even have the courage to look at your mother , how will you pursue other girls in the future? You don't want to find a girlfriend, but your mother still wants to hold her grandson!" As she spoke, Yang Keru lifted the scarf in front of her chest, puffed out her proud breasts, and said to her son, "Come on, look all you want!" Cheng Zijun shrank back, blushing, and said, "Oh my god, don't tease me, I didn't mean that..." Yang Keru giggled and said: "Look at you, so reckless!" After the mother and son's playful banter, they were halfway back. Suddenly, someone on deck exclaimed, "Look! That wave is huge!" "Oh my god!" Cheng Zijun was about to turn around when he felt tons of seawater crashing over him. He almost lost consciousness instantly, but thankfully his mother's scream pulled him back to reality. Oh no, a storm! That was Cheng Zijun's first thought. His next thought was to find the life jackets under his seats. Tourists standing on the deck had already been swept into the sea by waves as high as four or five stories. The cabin was in complete chaos; everyone was screaming and shouting, scattering aimlessly. Cheng Zijun and his mother were sitting by the window, so they were the first to be hit, with seawater rushing into their faces. He frantically groped for the life jacket at his feet, regretting why he hadn't put it on as soon as he boarded the ship. He finally managed to find one, grabbed his mother, and put it on her. Just as he finished fastening it, the second wave crashed in, and Cheng Zijun and his mother were like two lonely socks in a washing machine, helplessly swept away by the torrent, directly through the window on the other side of the cabin into the open sea. His mind had completely stopped thinking; all around him was salty, wet seawater. He didn't know where the sky was, where the land was, or where the ship was. His body was completely pulled by the current and the storm, drifting towards unknown waters. Before losing consciousness, Cheng Zijun only remembered one thing: that his hand must be tightly clasped with his mother's , never to be separated. (3) The scorching sun beat down on him, and Cheng Zijun felt the water in his body rapidly draining away; he was about to be dried up. He struggled to open his eyes, greeted by blinding sunlight. It took him a while to adjust before he could barely make out his surroundings. He lay alone on a small patch of beach, with the azure sea just a short distance below. The air was still, as if the terrible storm he had just experienced had never happened.

He tried to move, but every part of his body ached. Gritting his teeth, he laboriously made his way to the water's edge and
plunged headfirst into the sea. The cool water finally brought some relief to his sunburnt skin
. He vigorously wiped the water from his face, trying to muster his strength, and began to carefully examine his surroundings.

It was a small island, its size easily visible.

Clearly, there were no signs of human habitation.

"Mom..."

Cheng Zijun then realized that his mother's hand, which he had been tightly holding, had finally been swept away by the storm.

He ran ashore frantically, sprinting along the island's coastline, but he couldn't find his mother anywhere
. A series of lonely footprints were left on the beach behind him.

He ran around the island once, but still couldn't find his mother. Leaning against a coconut tree, he
gasped for breath. After being exposed to the scorching sun for so long, he was severely dehydrated, and running around the island had exhausted
him. He was on the verge of collapse.

He looked up; sunlight filtered through the dappled leaves overhead. Many large and small,
oddly shaped, unidentified fruits hung there, looking plump and juicy.

"If only I could eat one..."

he mused, licking his chapped lips, and slumped to the ground. His pupils began to
lose focus, staring blankly into the distance.

Suddenly, a bright orange-red color appeared abruptly in the azure water not far away.

It was a life jacket! Cheng Zijun sprang to his feet, plunging into the water with boundless energy, swimming

towards the orange hue at breakneck speed . Closer, closer… long hair… a woman… it really is Mom! Realizing this, Cheng Zijun sped up again, reaching Yang Keru in an instant. Yang Keru was wearing a life jacket, clutching an enormous hard-shell suitcase. The suitcase looked somewhat empty, seemingly lightweight, which was why it was floating on the surface. It seemed that Yang Keru, who couldn't swim , had desperately grabbed this lifeline to keep herself afloat. Cheng Zijun scooped up his unconscious mother, hoisted her onto the huge suitcase, and struggled to swim towards the shore. Dehydration and sunburn caused his vision to blur, and he nearly collapsed several times. Finally, Cheng Zijun dragged his mother back to shore. He lifted her upper body and patted her back forcefully. Yang Keru coughed up a mouthful of seawater, but she remained unconscious. "This life jacket is too cumbersome…" Cheng Zijun ripped the life jacket off his mother, his eyes widening in disbelief. Mother was only wearing a thin beach dress, which, ravaged by the sea and storm, was already on the verge of falling off. Her bra had been pushed open by the seawater, revealing her pink nipples standing proudly beneath the thin fabric, exuding a unique allure. "Uh..." After a few seconds of hesitation (admiration), Cheng Zijun finally remembered his business. He didn't have time to check if his mother's underwear was properly on; he put his arm around her waist and continued patting her back. Finally, after a violent coughing fit, several mouthfuls of seawater gushed from her mouth. Her eyebrows twitched slightly; she had finally woken up. "Mom! Mom!" "Mom, wake up!" Yang Keru let out a weak groan, managing to squeeze out a sound from her hoarse throat: "Ugh...so thirsty..." Yang Keru was in very poor condition, and almost immediately after saying this, she fainted again. "Water...water...fresh water..." Cheng Zijun was like a headless fly, spinning around in circles, not knowing where to find fresh water. This small island could be seen from one end to the other. There were no people or animals on the island, only bare rocks and a few coconut trees bearing some kind of fruit. Where could he find fresh water? That's it, coconut trees! Cheng Zijun looked at the plump, juicy coconuts on the trees. If he could just get one, just one, the water problem would be solved! He opened the suitcase, searching for any usable tools. The suitcase was empty, filled with luxury goods and duty-free shopping bags with the tags still on, clearly valuable, but useless in the current situation. He rummaged around for a while and finally found a small Swiss Army knife in a hidden compartment . "I'll make do with this..." Cheng Zijun jumped onto a nearby coconut tree, dangling in mid-air and shaking it vigorously. The fruit on the tree was large and plump, and with his vigorous shaking, he actually managed to shake two down. He took out the knife and used it as a chisel, his fist as a hammer, and smashed it down heavily. The shell of the fruit was covered with strange patterns, but it was thinner than he had imagined. Cheng Zijun's chisel broke through it, and juice was about to gush out. But a thought crossed his mind: "Is it drinkable? Could it be poisonous?" He tilted his head back and took a sip, then couldn't help but spit it out. "Damn, this is awful!" He hesitated. This was the only water source he could find on the island. Even if it was poisonous, there was nothing he could do. Dying from poison was better than dying of thirst, right? He pinched his nose and took another sip. Perhaps because he was mentally prepared, it didn't taste as bad as the first sip. "Well, better than nothing!" He helped his mother up and brought the fruit to her lips, slowly pouring the juice into her mouth. His unconscious mother choked a little, but then her throat began to swallow involuntarily, and soon she had drunk all the juice from the entire fruit. Cheng Zijun pried open another one with his bare hands and continued to feed it to his mother.

After feeding her most of the second fruit, Mom let out a soft hum and turned her head slightly to one side, seemingly unable to drink any
more. Seeing his mother's face gradually regain its color, Cheng Zijun finally felt relieved. He cleared
a space for her under the shade of the tree so she could lie down, then leaned against her side, took the half-eaten fruit, drank
the remaining juice in one gulp, and then leaned against the tree trunk, quickly falling into a deep sleep.
