Qingyun Continent 1-3

First

On a towering tree by the field, a majestic black eagle perched among its lush branches. Its dark body swayed in the dappled sunlight, and it calmly glanced down at the bustling agricultural scene below.

White clouds dotted the sky, and a cool breeze gently blew. Bright sunlight streamed through the gaps in the clouds, illuminating the people working in the fields. Behind the fields, the majestic Yun Gui Mountain City, nestled among the mountains, stood tall between heaven and earth. Under

the tree, Si Lang was sweating profusely as he planted rice seedlings in the field. He wore the typical mud-gray farm clothes, tightly bound at the waist with a hemp rope, his bare feet digging into the damp mud. A cloth bag filled with seedlings hung from the rope at his waist, and a bamboo basket full of seedlings lay nearby under the shade of the tree.

The fields were a hive of activity, with hundreds of farmers toiling away. As the clouds drifted across the sky, occasional showers of sunshine fell – a true gift from heaven.

Shiro, weary from his labor, straightened up to rest. He wiped the sweat from his brow, took the gourd from the rope hanging behind him, and drank deeply. As he drank, he noticed the black eagle that often tormented him was again perched in the tree, gazing down at him and occasionally letting out a loud cry.

Shiro laughed heartily at the gloating eagle, smothered the gourd in its mouth, and threw it forcefully into the field. He bent down, scooped up a handful of mud, and hurled it at the eagle, but the mud only made it halfway up the tree before falling back down.

Black Hawk had anticipated Shiro's strength and the range of his mud clods, so whenever it came to torment him, it always perched high on a branch. Seeing Shiro throw mud clods twice more, still unable to reach its target, Black Hawk twirled its black body merrily on the branch, letting out two piercing cries, its eyes slightly twitching as if mocking Shiro. Shiro

threw mud clods at Black Hawk several times, missing his target each time, only to find himself drenched in sweat. Looking up at Black Hawk, Shiro took off his shirt, revealing strong muscles despite his youth, and laughed heartily three times, pointing his mud-covered little finger at Black Hawk in the tree.

"One day... I too will be like you... soaring between heaven and earth..." Shiro declared with unwavering ambition.

The Black Eagle, who had been happily playing as usual, froze upon hearing Si Lang's words, as if understanding the meaning behind them and sensing Si Lang's fighting spirit. It then stopped teasing him.

The Black Eagle looked down at Si Lang from the tree below, their eyes meeting twice, the eagle's gaze now much more friendly. It then turned its head to look at the distant, forested Yun Gui Mountain City, before looking back at Si Lang's innocent eyes, letting out two clear, soft cries, and then soaring into the sky.

Once high in the air, the Black Eagle gracefully glided and circled three times above Si Lang, then flapped its powerful wings and flew rapidly towards the majestic Yun Gui Mountain City.

Yun Gui Mountain City

Yun Guishan City, the main city of the Yun Teng family, is located in the upper-middle part of Yun Guishan Mountain. In this Warring States period, it was a city easily defended and difficult to attack. The mountain boasts numerous springs, lush trees, and abundant fruit trees. Even under siege, Yun Guishan City could hold out for two to three years without being defeated.

The Yun Teng family owns three cities: Yun Guishan City, the main city, and Hetian Fangcheng and Yun Jiancheng. The Yun Teng family is one of the three most powerful families within the Mingnan Kingdom (a vassal state), alongside the Feng Ming family and the Lin Yu family. In this chaotic Warring States period, the three major powers in the Mingnan Kingdom maintain a delicate balance, standing in a tripartite balance. However, each of the three families desires to first unify the Mingnan Kingdom, believing that only by gaining control of a nation can they contend for supremacy. Meanwhile, in the Xin Dynasty, which has been embroiled in war for many years, the Mingnan Kingdom is merely a small state.

Two hundred years after unifying the Qingyun Continent, the Xin Dynasty's emperors became increasingly incompetent, each more mediocre than the last. While no truly wicked emperors emerged, the dynasty grew mediocre in the midst of peace and prosperity. In this environment, local vassal states, through years of development, gradually grew stronger, eventually disobeying the emperor's rule and commands. They declared independence, engaging in internecine warfare to strengthen themselves and survive, plunging the land into a chaotic Warring States period.

The Xin Dynasty's imperial family's rule shrank to the territory of Jinze, where the capital was located. Jinze's five major cities remained under imperial control, making it a powerful state with five major cities. However, once the emperor's decree left Jinze, no one obeyed anymore. Even Yun Teng's main city, Yun Guishan City, was considered a small city within the Xin Dynasty, making it a relatively minor power. The Xin Dynasty categorized cities into three sizes: large, medium, and small.

The Azure Cloud Continent, surrounded by sea on all sides, is shaped like a long dragon, resembling a soaring dragon amidst the clouds, covering an area of over one million square kilometers.

Since the decline of the various vassal states of the Xin Dynasty after two hundred years of rule by the Long family, they no longer obeyed the imperial family or paid tribute, and had been at war with each other for over fifty years. Each power wanted to replace the Xin Dynasty and establish a new one, but none dared to defy the world and attack the Long family of the Jinze Kingdom, thus becoming a target of public criticism. Under these circumstances, this situation would likely continue until any power became strong enough to establish a new dynasty. The Long family, with its delicate status, often played a mediating role in the conflicts between the states. Sometimes, when wars were difficult to continue, the states would give the Long family face. Having mediated conflicts between states for over fifty years, the Long family realized that it could no longer achieve its former glory and corrected its position. Therefore, it no longer considered itself royalty to command the states, but rather simply a power within its own nation. If they could simply maintain the existence of their Jinze Kingdom, it would be a stroke of luck in this chaotic Warring States period.

However, all the kingdoms still use the reign title of the Xin Dynasty, because no one has been able to establish a new dynasty. It is now the 250th year of the Xin Dynasty, the 17th year of Emperor Xinzhen.

The chaotic Warring States period on the Qingyun Continent has lasted for more than 50 years. The total population has grown from 100 million at the time of the Xin Dynasty's 200th anniversary to 250 years of chaos and war. Because the royal Long family has lost the ability to uniformly count the population, it is only roughly estimated that the Xin Dynasty lost 40 to 50 million people in these 50 years of war, of which about 5 million to 7 million were soldiers.

Today, the Qingyun Continent, the territory originally ruled by the Xin Dynasty, has been divided among more than 60 forces of varying sizes, with its size fluctuating. Larger forces rule two or three kingdoms, while smaller forces like the Yun Teng family are often squeezed together with two or more other forces within a single kingdom, fighting each other.
