If the female ninja loses her challenge, her little brother will be taken away (Prologue + Parts 1, 2, and 3)

Preface

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have found it hard to believe that anyone would build a dojo in this godforsaken mountain.

"Tsukimi-ryu, finally found it."

Although the days are long in midsummer, it was already sunset. After a full four hours on the bus, and with directions from
an old man with slurred speech, I finally found this dojo buried deep in the forest.
The signboard hanging at the entrance bore the three large characters "Tsukimi-ryu" in handwriting, grand yet somewhat old-fashioned, giving it a vintage
feel.

"That makes a hundred if you're included." I glanced at the signboard and knocked on the dojo's door.

"Is anyone there? Is anyone there?"

Silence. Only my own voice echoed through the valley like a stand-up comedy routine. Holy crap, no way!
I spent the whole day finding this place. If I went back now, I'd probably have to sleep on a tree stump all night. Although
I've slept outdoors before, who knows what might roam in this deep forest at night? If no one's home
, I'll have to climb over the wall to find a place to stay.

"Is anyone there???"

Still no response. Could the dojo master be some old man who goes to bed promptly at 7 PM every night?

"Is anyone there?" I clenched my fist, about to give it a couple of firm knocks, when the door creaked open.

"Ah, we have a guest. Sorry to keep you waiting."

Peeking out from behind the door wasn't a bald old man in a dojo uniform, nor a middle-aged man with bulging muscles
, but a beautiful girl completely wrapped in a cherry blossom-colored kimono. It was the first time I'd ever seen a living,
breathing Yamato Nadeshiko. The girl's long, dark hair was styled in a bun at the back of her head, adorned with an elegant butterfly hair ornament, and her eyes sparkled like flowing
water . When such a beautiful woman suddenly appears before you, all your attention is usually drawn to her eyes, causing
you to forget what you were originally going to say.

"Ah… um… um…" That was exactly my situation.

"Lost? That's troublesome. The mountain roads at night are dangerous, and there are bears roaming around…"

"Ah… no… I'm not lost…" For some reason, I had a strong feeling that I'd come to the wrong
place .

"Could it be..." The girl tilted her head, a puzzled look on her face, then her eyes suddenly lit up.
She took my hands in hers: "Could it be that you've come to become my apprentice?"

Huh? What's going on? This train of thought is too fast for me to keep up with. But at least it seems I haven't come to the wrong place.

"No, I've come to..." The girl didn't listen at all, she just grabbed my hand and pulled me through the door,
leading me into the main house with great excitement, like a child who had received a birthday present.

Speaking of which, it was the first time I'd held a girl's hand, it was so soft and comfortable.

"I was really rude earlier. My name is Tsukimi Sakura, I'm the acting instructor of this dojo, nice to meet you."
The girl named Sakura poured me some tea, smiled and nodded, giving a brief self-introduction.

"Nobuyuu Goichi, nice to meet you."

The summer cicada chirping mixed with the fragrance of tatami mats filled the room, and beautiful
patterns . Although it was in a remote location, the house was built with great care.

"That might be a bit impolite to ask, but how old are you, Mr. Gangyi?"

"Sixteen, and I'll be seventeen in two months." I picked up my teacup and gulped it down.

"Then I'm a little older, you can call me 'older sister'." I've inexplicably become her younger brother... even though
she doesn't look much older, maybe twenty at most.

"Is this dojo just for Ms. Tsukimi?" This dojo is so big, it's been
unusually quiet.

Sakura's face showed a hint of loneliness as she said, "Yes. There used to be a few
kids came here often, but they all went to boarding high school in the city. You see, our place is rather remote
. And these days, fewer and fewer people are interested in ninjutsu. It
's very convenient to find gyms or similar places in the city if you want to learn martial arts." She then poured me another cup of tea. "Also, you can call me
'older sister '." You really want to have a younger brother, don't you?

Well, that makes sense. For a martial arts style with a long history, it's difficult to lower oneself to
compete with fast-paced gyms. The skills honed over many years gradually fade with time, a
painful sight for anyone who makes a living from martial arts. My master was the same; he refused to compromise his principles for a pittance. A famous chain gym
once offered him a large sum to be an instructor, but he beat them all up with his bare fists. Afterwards
, the dojo struggled to survive, and he often sat alone on the rooftop reminiscing about his youthful days traveling the world,
making . Even orthodox fighting techniques are like this, let alone ninjutsu…

“Miss Tsukimi… you just said ninjutsu? I didn’t mishear.” My impression of ninjas was still that
of assassins in period dramas, dressed in black, using wooden stakes as decoys in times of crisis. Are there still real
ninjas these days? That’s truly a strange story.

Sakura straightened her posture and proudly puffed out her chest. "Yes, the Tsukimi clan is a ninja family descended from the Sengoku period. They served the shoguns
they served and made great contributions, but due to the nature of their profession, these things are not
widely known."

Indeed, when people think of ninjas, they usually think of stealing secrets or assassinating,
things that are certainly not something that can be openly publicized.

"Later, when peace and prosperity came, there was less demand for such things, so we started to
make a living by teaching combat skills. It is said that if we trace back to my grandmother's generation, the dojo was still very lively, but
times have changed ..." As she spoke, Sakura's eyes dimmed again. "Perhaps I haven't done enough. I haven't been able to properly
protect the dojo of my ancestors."

Then came an unbearable silence. Because of Sakura's distress, I felt her pain deeply.

"I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have brought up such heavy topics," Sakura said, her face brightening slightly with a smile.
"Although my skills are still far from sufficient, since someone is willing to learn from me, I will certainly teach them everything I know.
Please rest assured about that."

Ah, right, we've been chatting about family matters for so long that I've completely forgotten about the important matter.

I leaned back slightly, adopting a more upright posture, and said, "I'm sorry, Ms. Tsukimi.
I should have made it clear from the beginning that I didn't come here to become an apprentice."

Sakura paused, seemingly not understanding what I had said for a moment. I had definitely hurt her; not clarifying
my intentions from the start was a huge mistake.

"I see," she said, her hands gripping her sleeves tightly. "So you still won't call me 'older sister'?" Hey, your
disappointment seems to have gone astray.

"Haha, but that's true. How could something so good suddenly happen? I
was really getting excited on my own. I'm so sorry." Although she said it with a smile, she couldn't hide
the disappointment in her tone. "In that case, Mr. Nobuyu, what brings you here? As you can see, this is just a
rather deserted dojo."

"I came here to spar and learn from you. Although I'm younger than Miss Tsukimi, I'm still a martial artist, and I'm quite confident in
my skills."

"I see… Ah! Could this be what they call a challenge? Mr. Nobuyu, you've come to challenge my dojo?"
It seems that even being challenged is a luxury in these remote mountains.

"Simply put, that's the gist of it. I'm currently searching for masters all over Japan."

"Wow, that's impressive. You're younger than me, yet you're already out there making your way in the world." For some reason, I had the illusion of being patted on the head
from afar . "But it's getting late, and you must be tired from your search
. Why don't you rest here tonight, and we can spar again tomorrow morning?" "

No, regarding the spar, please pretend I didn't say anything. I didn't expect the current head of the Tsukimi-ryu to be a woman,
so such a spar is meaningless to me. But if possible, please allow me to stay the night. I'll descend the mountain
on my own ."

The air in the room seemed to pause slightly. Sakura raised her head, looking directly into my eyes.
Her delicate body, wrapped in a kimono, exuded a powerful aura. This was the first time I'd seen her with such a serious expression.

"Are you implying that I'm not worthy to be your opponent?" My back inexplicably twitched.

"I don't mean to offend you, but there are insurmountable physical differences between men and women. Miss Tsukimi,
as someone who practices martial arts, you must understand that speed and strength are areas where men have the upper hand. Technique
can compensate for the difference to some extent, but it can't bridge the gap. If I were to win in a match using such an advantage,
it would be a disgrace to me."

"Are you already certain you can win? What remarkable confidence." A hint of anger could
be sensed Since I started practicing martial arts, I have never lost to a male of my generation. Mr. Nobuyu, I
won't lose to you either. Your so-called advantage won't bring you victory; I will prove it to you myself."

"Don't misunderstand me, I mean..." "

Mr. Nobuyu, are you afraid to accept my challenge?" It was a blatant provocation, a textbook example of reverse
psychology , but when facing a woman, there was no way to back down at this point.

"Interesting... I don't like being provoked," I sneered, glaring back. "I especially dislike running away. But
if we're going to fight, there's one thing I need to say upfront."

"Hmm?"

"If I win, the signboard at the entrance is mine."

"The signboard...?" As expected, people usually hesitate when I offer this condition. After all, no matter how
down on its luck , it's still proof of a school's journey.

"Okay, I accept." Sakura accepted my request almost without hesitation.

"Is that alright? I suggest you think about it again. Up until today, I've defeated ninety-nine
dojo masters and obtained ninety-nine signboards. If you lose then… there's no going back."

"It's okay, as long as I win, right? But… what will I get if I win? It's really unfair
if it's just one-sided."

"Whatever you want, anything I have, or anything I can do. I understand
the value of the signboards to a school, and I'm prepared to keep my promise."

"Hmm… what would be better?" Sakura rested her chin on her right hand, deep in thought for a while, her gaze fixed on my
face, gradually moving downwards… then suddenly revealing a mischievous smile.

"I've decided." Her left index finger pointed to my crotch, "If I win, I'll
leave here."

"Wh…?" For a moment, I didn't understand what she meant.

"If I win, I'll take away your pride as a boy." Sakura said with a half-joking, half-serious
expression.

Does that mean… if I lose, I'll be castrated? The stakes were indeed high. But
as , as long as I win, that's all that matters. Having defeated ninety-nine masters, how could I possibly lose to a girl?

"No problem, let's clean that board one last time tonight. I don't want it covered in dust when I carry it away tomorrow."

"Mr. Nobuyu, you should also wash it thoroughly tonight."

And so, my duel with Tsukimi Sakura was officially set: a signboard versus a second-rate guy. She arranged
a room for me and prepared a nice dinner. Although our earlier conversation had been a bit heated,
we gradually became acquainted while eating and chatting about my journey. Sakura is a lovely and kind girl. Even though
the world is tough, she strives to uphold her family's honor.

Listening to her laughingly teasing me about my story, I felt a pang of reluctance... What she cherishes most, what's most
important , will be taken away by my own hands tomorrow. In any case, I hope she's mentally prepared, rather
than blindly believing in a victory that won't come.

"By the way, you snatched so many billboards, but you didn't seem to have them with you," Sakura
asked, .

"I threw them away," I replied casually, downing my tea in one gulp. "Ms. Tsukimi, could you please have another
cup of tea?"

"I see... Mr. Nobuyu," she leaned over to refill my teacup, giving me a meaningful
smile , "Tomorrow, you might be crying and calling me 'older sister'."
