Chapter One: Stopping the Lewd Trend Through Lewd Matters, Discussing Lust, Starting with Lust

The poem reads: Black hair is hard to keep, rosy cheeks easily fade, life is not like a pine tree. Fame and fortune vanish, like a fallen flower in the wind. Regret kills the
joy of youth, the pleasure quarters banish the old man. Princes and nobles, listening to songs of gold thread, should love the fragrant medicine early. The true place of joy in the world, after all counts
, is still the bedroom. Unlike the realm of glory, joy begins and sorrow ends. Enjoying pleasure every morning, where swallows sleep soundly, fearing the morning bell. Opening eyes, look, the universe covers everything, a grand spring palace.   This poem is titled "Full of Fragrance." It simply says that life is full of toil and worries, without any benefit . It is thanks to the ancient sages who created the world that the union of men and women was created, to relieve people's toil and worries, so that they would not be so haggard. According to Confucianism, a woman's lower body is the gate of my life and the door of my death. According to the wise, without this item, a person's hair would turn white a few years earlier and their lifespan would be shorter. Just look at the monks in the world ; how many of them don't have white hair in their forties or fifties? How many are still healthy in their seventies or eighties? Or perhaps monks, though ordained, still have ways to go, like adulterers or philanderers, and cannot preserve their health like ordinary people, hence their shorter lifespans . Look at the eunuchs in the capital; not only do they not steal women or philander, they don't even have the tools for it. Logically, they should live a shorter life, several hundred years, yet why do they have more wrinkles and white hair than others? Why do they look like old women in name only? In the capital, there are only commoners with longevity plaques, not eunuchs with centenarian arches .    It is evident that the concept of "female beauty" is inherently harmless. However, because this herb is not recorded in the *Compendium of Materia Medica*, there is no definitive explanation. Some say it nourishes, others say it harms. If we examine these comparisons, it is not only nourishing , but its medicinal properties are similar to ginseng and aconite, and they can be used interchangeably. However, while ginseng and aconite are highly nourishing, they are suitable for long-term use, not excessive consumption; they can be used as medicine, not as food. If consumed indiscriminately, at any time, or to the point of excess , it will generally cause harm. The benefits and harms of female beauty are similar. Long-term use has the effect of balancing yin and yang, while excessive use has the harm of water and fire clashing. As medicine, it brings the joy of relieving depression; as food, it causes the worry of damaging tendons and depleting blood. People in the world should understand that " female beauty is like medicine"—neither too sparse nor too frequent, neither too averse nor overly fond of it. Before engaging in sexual activity, one should think, "This medicine is not poison, so why fear it?" When engaging in sexual activity, one should think, "This medicine is not food, so why urinate on it?" In this way, yang will not be excessive and yin will not be stagnant; how could it not benefit one? However, there is one thing: the properties of this medicine are identical to ginseng and aconite , only the place of origin and method of use are somewhat opposite; those who take the medicine must know this. Ginseng and aconite are best when from their original source; locally grown ones are useless. Sexual activity, on the other hand, is best when it is locally grown; unused sex is not only useless but can also harm one. What is locally grown? What is unused sex? One's own wives and concubines, without needing to seek them far or spend money, can be easily obtained; this is what is meant by locally grown. I can sleep freely without hindrance, and let others knock on the door without fear. It neither harms one's vital energy nor harms the ancestral line. After a round of intercourse, the whole body feels refreshed . Is this not nourishing? Beautiful women come from wealthy families, and delicate makeup must be obtained from embroidered chambers. Domestic chickens taste bland compared to the freshness of wild ducks; an old woman, faded in beauty, is no match for a young maiden—this is what is meant by "fallen from grace." Such a woman, obsessed with desire, seeks to possess them, first seducing them with affection, then showering them with gifts, sometimes climbing over walls to meet them, sometimes digging holes to speak of secrets. Even if she is as bold as the heavens, she is ultimately terrified, as if someone is present even when no one is watching. She sweats little for pleasure but much for fear; her affections are strong, but her courage is weak. She tests the limits of what is possible, creating unforeseen disasters, secretly damaging her virtue, openly violating the law, and ultimately being killed. If no one pays the price, the wife may still live. Even more so for women who have lost their chastity, the various consequences are unbearable. It is clear that people in this world should never abandon what is near for what is far, nor tire of the old for what is new.   The author of this novel originally had a compassionate heart, wanting to preach to the world, advising people to restrain their desires, not to indulge in them; advising people to keep their lust secret, not to promote it. Readers, do not misunderstand his intentions. If the goal is to curb lust and desire, why not use a moral text to maintain social order, instead of writing erotic novels? Readers, you are unaware that the method of changing customs and habits requires guiding people according to the prevailing circumstances; only then will their words be easily accepted. Nowadays, people dislike reading Confucian classics and biographies, preferring unofficial histories and anecdotes. Even within these unofficial histories, they dislike stories of loyalty, filial piety, and righteousness, preferring lewd and absurd tales. Customs today are utterly decadent. If a moral text were used to persuade people to do good, let alone get people to buy it, even if a philanthropist donated scriptures to be printed, bound, and given as a gift, they would either unpack it or use it for smoking; they would never bother to look at it. It is better to appeal to their lust, and when they are engrossed in reading, suddenly…










































However, a few sharp words of criticism made him sigh, "Women are so alluring; how can one not indulge in pleasure, constantly seeking enjoyment
, instead becoming a ghost beneath the peony blossoms, pursuing empty fame and abandoning reality?" Then, when he saw the clear retribution,
a few words of gentle enlightenment made him realize, "Adultery is inevitably punished; how can one not keep one's wives and concubines for personal enjoyment
, instead indulging in idle pursuits, borrowing money to pay off real debts?" Reflecting on this, he naturally avoided the wicked path. Not taking the wicked path
, naturally, husbands loved their wives and wives respected their husbands; the teachings of Zhou Nan and Zhao Nan are nothing more than this. This is the method of governing people by addressing the matter at hand and governing people by people
. Not only should unofficial historians and anecdotes use this technique, but even the sages in the classics practiced it. If you don't believe it, look at
Mencius's discourse on kingship during the reign of King Xuan of Qi in the Warring States period. King Xuan was a man obsessed with sensual pleasures and material gain; he had no interest in proper governance
. He merely offered a casual praise, saying, "Excellent, indeed!" Mencius asked, "If Your Majesty finds this agreeable, why does it not work?" King Xuan replied, "I have a weakness; I am
fond of material possessions." Mencius then used the anecdote of Duke Liu's fondness for material possessions to persuade him. King Xuan then added, "I have a weakness; I am fond of women.
" At this point, he was already willing to become a tyrant like Jie or Zhou, treating it as a reply to someone's failure to govern properly. If one were to consider him a moralist
, one would have to earnestly and sternly admonish him against his licentiousness. Ancient emperors had a warning: "A commoner who is fond of women will perish; a high official who is fond of women will
lose his position; a feudal lord who is fond of women will lose his kingdom; and the emperor who is fond of women will lose the empire." If King Xuan had heard this, even if he
hadn't spoken aloud, he would have thought to himself, "In that case, my illness is incurable; I have no use for you, sir.
" But Mencius cleverly used a story of the king's lustful nature to entice him, making him so engrossed that he
couldn't stop listening. Consider that even when King Tai fled on horseback, he had Jiang Nu with him; it's clear he was a womanizer who couldn't bear to be without women.
How could such a licentious ruler not lose his life and his kingdom? Yet, he had a way of satisfying his lust, causing all the men in the kingdom
to flee with women. While King Tai and Jiang Nu were enjoying themselves, the men and women of the kingdom were also enjoying themselves. This is
a ruler who is impartial and selfless. Who wouldn't praise him? Who would dare to criticize him? Hearing this, King Xuan would naturally feel at ease and be willing to govern
, no longer using "I am ill" as an excuse. This is the strength of the author of this novel. I hope all readers
will purchase this book and read it as a classic text, not as a novel. Wherever the title "Reader" appears, it is either a critical remark or a wise saying;
you must pay close attention and understand it. Descriptions of sexual intercourse and depictions of bedroom pleasures may border on obscenity, but the reader must be led
to the conclusion to learn the lesson and receive a warning. Otherwise, it would be a book of olives, leaving something to savor later. But
what if it's sour and tasteless, and people refuse to chew it? My descriptive language is like wrapping olives in dates, guiding the reader to savor the aftertaste
.
The details are numerous, but the real skill will be revealed in the next chapter.

Chapter Two


The Old Monk Opens an Empty Bag, the Young Layman Receives the Flesh-Purifying Cushion During the Zhihe era of the Yuan Dynasty, there was a monk in the Kuocang Mountains, whose Dharma name was Zhengyi and Daoist name was Gufeng. He was originally a famous student at

the Chuzhou County School.
Because of his innate goodness, he babbled incessantly in his swaddling clothes, like a student reciting a text
. His parents couldn't understand why. A wandering monk came to collect alms and saw the child, holding him in his arms, seemingly neither crying nor laughing
. The monk, hearing this, said he was reciting the *?ūra?gama Sūtra*, and that this child was a reincarnation of a high monk. He returned to his parents and begged to become his disciple
. His parents thought it was superstition and didn't believe it. They taught him to read, and he could memorize anything he read. However, officialdom was not his desire, and he repeatedly abandoned
Confucianism for Buddhism, only to be severely punished by his parents. Forced to take the imperial examinations, he entered the academy as a child and helped others afterward. After his parents
passed away, he waited two years to complete the mourning period, then distributed all his wealth to his relatives. He sewed a large leather bag, filled it with wooden fish drums, scriptures,
and other items, shaved his head, and went into the mountains to cultivate himself. Those who knew him called him Elder Gufeng, while those who didn't simply called him the Leather Bag
Monk. Unlike other monks, he not only strictly abstained from alcohol, meat, and lewdness, but also adhered to three precepts within the fundamental duties of a monk
: not soliciting donations, not lecturing on scriptures, and not residing in famous mountains. When asked why he didn't solicit donations, he said, "The path to Buddhism
generally begins with asceticism. One must strain one's muscles and bones, starve one's body, and make the anxieties of hunger and cold daily pressing upon one. When the anxieties of hunger and cold daily pressing upon one, lustful
thoughts will not arise; when lustful thoughts do not arise, defilement will gradually recede, and purity will gradually arise. In time, one will naturally attain Buddhahood. If one does not farm for food
, nor weave for clothing, and relies on donations from benefactors all day long, when one's belly is full, one desires leisurely walks; when one's body is warm, one desires peaceful sleep. While leisurely walking, one sees what is desirable
; while peaceful sleep, one's dreams become reality. Whether one succeeds in learning Buddhism or not, all sorts of things leading to hell will come to one without seeking them. That is why I feed myself..."
"I refrain
; only Buddhas and Bodhisattvas can understand them. For ordinary people to lecture on scriptures is like a fool talking in a dream. Tao Yuanming, in the past, didn't seek deep understanding when reading
. Even Chinese people reading Chinese books dare not seek deep understanding, let alone Chinese people reading foreign books and then presumptuously
translating them? I dare not seek to be a meritorious subject of Bodhisattvas, but only to avoid being a sinner to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Therefore, I know my foolishness and guard my simplicity, refraining from lecturing on
scriptures." People further asked why he didn't live in famous mountains. He said, "Those who cultivate themselves must not see what is desirable, so that their minds are not disturbed.
The things that are desirable in the world are not only sensual pleasures and material gains. Even the gentle breeze that soothes the body, the bright moon that pleases the heart, the birds that delight the ear, the ferns that taste delicious
—all things lovely and desirable are desirable. Living in a scenic place, mountain spirits and water monsters will lead me to seek poetry, and the moon goddess and wind goddess will disturb me."
"Therefore , those who study at famous mountains fail to achieve their studies, and those who seek enlightenment at famous mountains find it difficult to purify their minds
of fame. Besides, which famous mountain doesn't have women burning incense and officials offering their services? The story of the moonlit willows is a prime example. The reason I abandoned famous temples to live in this desolate mountain is simply to
ensure that there is nothing to cling to before my eyes and ears." The questioner deeply admired his words, believing they were unprecedented among eminent monks. Because of these three
precepts, he did not seek fame, yet his reputation grew daily. Many people from near and far wished to take refuge in him, but he refused to accept disciples lightly, wanting to observe whether they
truly possessed good roots and were free from worldly desires before ordaining them. If there was even the slightest doubt, he would refuse to accept them. Therefore, after many years of being a monk, he
had very few disciples, living alone in a few huts by a mountain stream, farming for food and drinking from the spring.

One day, the autumn wind was bleak, the trees were bare, and insects chirped. The monk rose early, swept the fallen leaves in front of the door, changed the water before the Buddha,
offered incense, and set down his meditation cushion in the main hall. Suddenly, a young scholar, accompanied by two servants, entered. The
scholar's appearance was as clear as autumn water and as graceful as spring clouds. His eyes shone with an unusual brilliance. He seemed to dislike
direct gazes and harbored impure thoughts; he didn't need them elsewhere, but he was particularly adept at secretly observing women. He didn't need to get close; even from dozens of feet away
, a single glance was enough to discern beauty from ugliness. If a woman was virtuous, he would simply glance at her. If she was upright, she would lower
her head and walk past, not meeting his gaze, thus his glance was wasted. If the woman shared his vice...
It's like a love letter being tossed here and there, slipped through the corner of the eye, and then it's impossible to stop. Therefore, regardless of gender,
having such eyes is not an auspicious sign; it brings disgrace and ruin. Readers, if your eyes resemble this, please be
careful. At that moment, the scholar entered, bowed four times to the Buddha statue, and four times to the monk, then stood to the side.
The monk, initially unable to return the bows while in meditation, only stepped down from his cushion after finishing his work and returned four deep bows. After they were seated
, the monk asked the scholar's name. The scholar replied, "I am from afar, traveling in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, and my pen name is 'Weiyang Sheng.' I have heard that you,
Master, are a great monk and a living Buddha, therefore I have fasted and come to speak with you."

You might wonder why the monk asked his name but didn't address him by his given name, instead using his pen name? Readers should know that in those days,
the scholarly customs were strange; scholars disliked using their given names and addressed each other by their pen names. Therefore, scholars all had a title, sometimes called "
Sheng," sometimes "Zi," and sometimes "Daoren." Generally, the young were called "Sheng," the middle-aged "Zi," and the elderly "
Daoren." The titles for these titles each had their own meaning, perhaps reflecting personal feelings or inclinations; they were chosen freely
, as long as they understood it themselves, not necessarily for everyone else. This scholar, however, was fond of women, disliked the daytime but preferred the night, and
disliked the latter half of the night but preferred the first half. Seeing the line "the night is not yet over" in the Book of Songs, he took this phrase out of context and named himself "Weiyang Sheng
" (meaning "Sheng of Unending Night").

The monk, seeing this excessive praise, felt ashamed and replied with a few words of humility. At that time, the vegetarian meal in the earthenware pot was
ready, so the monk invited him to eat the morning meal. The two sat facing each other, discussing Zen, their wit and insightful exchanges resonating deeply. It turned out that Weiyang Sheng was extremely intelligent,
having read widely from all schools of thought and religions. The Zen riddle contained within, which others could not fathom despite a thousand words, he understood
completely with just the monk's first question. The monk thought to himself, "What a knowledgeable man! It's just that creation made a mistake in its design; why pair a
heart devoted to Buddhism with such a wicked appearance? Judging from his demeanor, he's clearly a lecherous fiend. If I don't bring him into my clutches
, he'll surely go to great lengths, causing chaos in women's homes. Countless women in the world will suffer his poison. Today I've seen
this perverse person and I cannot help but quell the chaos; that would be a grave injustice." He said to him, “Since becoming a monk, I have seen
many people. Those foolish men and women who refuse to do good are not worth mentioning. Even the scholars who come to meditate and the officials who come to listen to the Dharma
are all laymen; very few can understand the essence of Zen. Who would have thought that you, layman, would possess such keen insight, and with this, you can attain samadhi in just a few years of studying Zen
? In this life, what is easily obtained is the physical body, what is hard to obtain is one's innate nature. What is easily passed is time, what is hard to pass is calamity. You, layman
, have come with the potential to become a Buddha; you must not go down the path of demons. Why not take advantage of this still-vibrant life to sever desires and
enter the monastic gate? Although I am but a mortal, I can still serve as a model for others. If you can make this great vow and dedicate yourself to this great cause and effect,
after a hundred years, you will be worthy to be enshrined in the Sangha, and you will not be subject to the commands of the Rakshasas. What do you think, layman?” Wei Yangsheng said, “Brother…”
"I have long harbored the thought of returning
. I am still young, so I will wait until I return to settle these two matters and enjoy a few years of peace. Then I will come to you for guidance and refuge; it will not be
too late then."

The monk asked, "May I ask what your two wishes are? Is it to achieve fame in the imperial court and repay your learning? Or to perform meritorious service in foreign lands and report to
the imperial court?" Wei Yangsheng shook his head and said, "These are not my wishes." The monk said, "If they are not
your wishes, then what are they?" Wei Yangsheng said, "What I wish for is something I can accomplish through my own efforts, not
something I merely dream about. To be honest, Master, my memory for reading, my understanding of the Dharma, and my writing skills are all of the highest caliber."
" The famous scholars of today merely memorize what they've learned, dabble in various things, write a few drafts, and publish a collection of poems and essays, then they claim
to be renowned in the literary world and dominate the world. In my opinion, that's a facade. To be a true scholar, one must read all the rare books in the world, befriend all
the extraordinary people, travel to all the famous mountains, and then retire to a secluded room to write books and leave a lasting legacy. Even if one's name is listed on the imperial examinations, one
has done something for the court. Even if one's literary talent doesn't match one's fortune and one dies in obscurity, one will still be a figure of lasting fame. Therefore, I have
two lines in my heart: 'To be the first talented scholar in the world…'" The monk said, "That's the first line. What's the second line?
" Wei Yangsheng was about to speak but then swallowed his words, unable to express his meaning. The monk said, "Since you're afraid to say the second line, let me
say it for you." Wei Yangsheng said, "How could Master possibly tell me what's on my mind?" The monk said, "If
I'm wrong, I'm willing to accept punishment. But if I am right, please don't pretend to deny it." Wei Yangsheng said, "If Master is right
, you're not only a Bodhisattva but also a deity; how could I dare to evade the question?" The monk calmly said, "It's 'to marry the most beautiful woman in the world .'"   Wei Yangsheng was stunned. After a long pause, he finally replied, "Master is truly an extraordinary person! These two lines are private...
"

"These words
are what I've been reciting in my heart all day, yet Master seems to have heard them and immediately understood." The monk said, "Haven't
you heard that whispers among men are heard by Heaven like thunder?" Wei Yangsheng said, "Logically speaking, I shouldn't speak of such things to Master. Now
that Master has guessed, I dare not lie and say that my Daoist heart is still shallow, but my desires are deep. Since ancient times,
the four words 'beautiful woman and talented man' have been inseparable. Where there is a talented man, there must be a beautiful woman to accompany him; where there is a beautiful woman, there must be a talented man to be his partner. Now , my
talent goes without saying, and my appearance is not bad either. I often look in the mirror, and even if Pan An and Wei Jie were born today,
I would not be inferior. Since Heaven has given me the title of talented man, how could I not..." "To give birth to a woman to match? If there are no beautiful women in the world today, so
be it. But if there are, who else but me would seek a suitable partner? Therefore, I am over twenty and still unmarried, not wanting to waste my talent and beauty
. When I return and find a beautiful woman to marry, and have a son to continue the family line, then my good wish will be fulfilled and I will have no other thoughts.
Not only will I turn back, but I will also persuade my wife to cross to the other shore together. What do you think, Master?" The monk listened and coldly laughed: "
It seems that the layman's thoughts are not wrong at all, but the creator of things is somewhat unreasonable. If you were
given an ugly body, you might be able to attain enlightenment if you have a little bit of clear-headedness. That's why people in ancient times often had scabies and epilepsy, and their hands..."
He who bent
simply spoiled by Heaven at the time of your birth, like parents who, fearing to harm your flesh and temper your temperament in your youth, could not bear to hit or scold you
. When the son grew up, he said that his flesh and temperament were given by Heaven and Earth and nurtured by his parents, so he acted arbitrarily and did evil
. He committed crimes and was whipped by the government and executed by the court, only then regretting his parents' excessive spoiling, leading to his current state. This unusual
appearance and spoiled temperament are not auspicious omens. You, sir, because of your appearance, are the first talented man, you should seek the first good man.
"Regardless of whether a beautiful woman is attainable or not, even if one were to be found, there's a fear that this woman might not have
the words 'first' written on her forehead. If she were to meet someone even more beautiful, she would want to change her mind again. If this beautiful woman is like you
, and doesn't want to marry easily, waiting for the first talented man, you could take her as a concubine. But what if she finds a good man
? How would you handle that? If you insist on getting what you want, then all sorts of things that lead to hell will follow. Do you want to go to hell or
heaven? If you're willing to go to hell, then go find the first beautiful woman. If you want to go to heaven, then abandon your delusions
and become a monk with me."

Wei Yangsheng said, "Master, your words 'heaven and hell' seem a bit clichéd, not like the words of a high monk.
The principle of Zen is simply self-realization. To stand in the state of non-birth and non-death is to become a Buddha. Is there really a heaven to go to
?" Even if one commits some transgressions of philandering, it is merely a stain on Confucian ethics; how could there truly be a hell to fall into? The monk said, “‘
Those who do good go to heaven, those who do evil go to hell’ is indeed a cliché. It's just that you scholars can escape the cliché in everything, except for
matters of self-cultivation and conduct. Heaven and hell are clearly inseparable. Even if there is no heaven, one must take
heaven as a stepping stone to goodness. Even if there is no hell, one must take hell as a warning against evil. Since you clearly understand the cliché, I
will not speak of future retribution, but only of present retribution, which will inevitably be another cliché. There is an ancient saying, ‘I do not commit adultery with other men’s wives, and others
do not commit adultery with my wife.’ These two sentences are extremely common clichés, but no one in the world who is lustful has ever escaped this cliché; they commit adultery with other
men’s wives and daughters, and their wives and daughters are also committed adultery with others. To escape the cliché, one must refrain from adultery. If one commits adultery, one will inevitably be subject to
this cliché. Layman, do you want to escape the cliché, or do you want to fall into it?” "If you want to fall into the trap, just go find the first beauty; if you want to escape
, please abandon your delusions and become a monk with this humble monk."

Wei Yangsheng said, "Master's words are all very clear. It's just that I have to explain things thoroughly to the ignorant,
so that they will be terrified and know to be wary. If I were to reason with people like us, it wouldn't necessarily be like this. Although the laws of Heaven are strict, they
are not without leniency. Although many adulterers are punished, there are also many who are not. If we went door to door to arrest adulterers,
and made those who committed adultery pay for the debts of others, then Heaven would be desecrated! In short, the cycle of retribution and the principle of Heaven's justice are generally infallible.
Those who are not virtuous should know this, which is a major topic for persuasion. Why make such a big deal out of it?" The monk said,
"According to what you say, are there any adulterers in the world who go unpunished? I'm afraid that the laws of Heaven do not allow anyone to escape." Perhaps
the layman is honest and kind, allowing some to slip through the net. In my humble opinion, there has never been a case, ancient or modern, of someone who commits adultery without retribution.
Historical records and oral traditions abound with such tales. Layman, please consider this: Adultery is an advantageous act, so people are willing
to tell others, hence many know. The defilement of one's wife and daughter is an unfavorable act, so people are unwilling to tell others, hence few know. Some wives even
conceal it from their husbands, and daughters from their fathers, not even knowing themselves, yet still claiming that the retribution for adultery is impossible. Only after death do they
believe the ancient saying is true, and at that point, they can no longer express this understanding. It is not the wife and daughters of the adulterer who repay
the debt of adultery. The moment the thought of adultery arises, the wife and daughters are unconsciously forgotten. For example, if one's own wife
and daughter are ugly, and one is not very aroused during intercourse, one might think of the beautiful women seen during the day, mistaking one's wife for
them, and finding pleasure in that. Who knows if the wife, at this moment, doesn't find her husband ugly, thinking of the handsome men she saw during the day,
mistaking her husband for them, and taking pleasure in it? Such things are common, though they don't damage one's integrity, they certainly harm one's
heart. It is also retribution for a man's lustful nature. If even the thought is like this, how much more so when one enters the room, physically overpowering the other, unseen by gods or spirits
, and the Creator doesn't punish the wife, allowing her to remain chaste? This humble monk's words are not mere platitudes. Do you agree, layman?" Wei
Yangsheng said, "This is extremely reasonable, but I must ask you, Master, if someone who has a wife and daughter commits adultery with another's wife and daughter, will there be retribution
? But if someone without a wife and daughter commits adultery with another's wife and daughter, how will they repay the debt? This principle of impartiality would not apply. There is also a
saying: one person's wife and daughter are finite, but the world's female beauty is infinite." For example, if one has only one or two wives and concubines, one or two children,
yet indulges in the affairs of countless women in the world, even if one's wives and daughters commit adultery, the cost is small and the profit is great. How will Heaven deal with this?"

The monk, knowing he was an unyielding man, said to him, "Layman, your words are very sharp, but I
dare not accept such praise. However, such principles are not enough to be understood; only through practice can one truly grasp their meaning. Layman, please wait until you have married a beautiful woman and then
contemplate the truth through the flesh-restoring mat, only then will you gain real insight. I see that you possess the qualities to transcend the ordinary and attain sainthood, the potential
to reach the pinnacle of enlightenment. I truly cannot bear to abandon you. Perhaps after your sudden enlightenment, you will come to see me again to discuss your path home. From tomorrow onwards, I will eagerly
await your return." Having said this, he took out a piece of paper, picked up a brush, and wrote a verse of four lines in five characters each: "

Please cast aside your leather bag,
and sit on your flesh-covered cushion.
Repent while you are alive, do not lament
after the coffin is closed."

The monk finished writing and handed it to Wei Yangsheng, saying, "You clumsy, ignorant monk, though your verse is too extreme, it truly comes from a compassionate
heart. Please keep it, for future reference." He then stood up, as if to see him off. Wei Yangsheng knew
he was being rejected, but remembering the monk's high status, he dared not leave disrespectfully. He could only bow his head and apologize, saying, "This disciple is inherently foolish and stubborn, unrepentant and
unlearned. I hope Master will forgive me. I hope you will accept me again when I return." "Having said this, he bowed four times again, and the monk returned
the bow, seeing him off at the door. The monk's origins were thus explained; the rest only mentions Wei Yangsheng's infatuation with women,
omitting any further mention of Gu Feng. Gu Feng's fate is only revealed in the final chapter.

in lewd behavior, only to discover otherwise. His true intentions are revealed only during meditation, leaving the reader
uncertain. This is a variation on traditional novels, a testament to the author's mastery of conventions. Even if others used this method..."
The themes are confused and the flow is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to discern the main points. This piece, however, is clear and distinct, allowing
the reader to understand the theme immediately. The final few words clarify the main points, leaving the reader unsatisfied. Truly
a master.
Chapter Three:

The Moral Scholar Mistakenly Marries a Romantic Son-in-Law; The Dignified Woman's Heart Turns


to a Heartless Lover. Meanwhile, Wei Yangsheng, having parted from the lonely peak, grumbled all the way, "What a terrible background! I'm over twenty years old..."
A flower has just bloomed, and yet he demands one shave one's head and seek asceticism, to go and suffer. What heartless person is there in the world? I met
him today only because he is a renowned scholar who has become a monk; surely he possesses unique insights, and I wanted to grasp his Zen wisdom to aid my writing.
Who would have thought I would suffer such neglect from him, and even receive a tortoise-themed verse as a gift? How can I accept such treatment? I am a proud and upright man;
if I were to become an official, I would govern the world and oversee all people. Can't I even manage my own wife? Now that I have met such a fine woman, I refuse to
let her slip away. I would commit a few acts of promiscuity, keeping my household strictly guarded, so that no man might come to collect
his debt. Besides, with a woman married to such a handsome husband as me, even if another man tries to seduce her, she would likely not even look at him. Such a breach of chastity
is certain. That verse he just wrote, logically speaking, should have been torn to shreds and thrown back to him. However, since there was no evidence of his poisonous words when we met later
, I decided to keep the verse with me to see if he would repent later. Having made up my mind, I folded the verse and hid it in my belt

Returning home, I instructed several servants to go and deliver messages to matchmakers, seeking the most beautiful woman in the world. He came from a distinguished
family and was both talented and handsome; what man wouldn't want him as a son-in-law, and what woman wouldn't want him as a husband? Since
the message was sent, several matchmakers sought him out daily. He allowed himself to visit the homes of ordinary families, but for wealthy families who
wanted to maintain appearances, they would arrange meetings in temples or remote areas, where the two would pretend not to notice each other, making their meeting clear
. Many young women went home heartbroken, but he didn't find any of them appealing. A matchmaker said to him, "It seems that
none of the other women are a good match for you. Only the daughter of the Iron-Door Taoist, named 'Yuxiang,' is worthy of you. However,
her father is eccentric and will certainly refuse to have someone assess her, and you insist on doing so, making this impossible." Wei Yangsheng asked, "
Why is he called 'Iron-Door Taoist'? Why do you think his daughter is so beautiful? If she is so beautiful, why won't he have someone assess her?
" The matchmaker said, "This old man is a renowned scholar, a solitary and aloof man. He owns land and fields but asks nothing of others. He has no
friends and studies alone at home. No matter who knocks on his door, he simply won't open it. A distinguished guest, admiring his
reputation, went to visit him, knocking for half a day, but not only did he not open the door, he wouldn't even answer. The distinguished guest, having no other choice, wrote a poem
on the door and left. Two lines read:

'I only know that the noble scholar's thatched door is...'" Who would have thought that the gentleman's door was made of iron?

Later, upon seeing the poem, he remarked, "The words 'iron door' are quite apt," and thus adopted "Iron Door Taoist" as his pen name. He
had no sons, only a daughter, who was exceptionally beautiful, unmatched by anyone. She was also highly educated, all
taught by her father, and could compose poems and songs. Her family was very strict; she never went out to burn incense or attend gatherings, and at
sixteen years old, she had never shown her face in public. Even gossipy relatives wouldn't dare enter the house. Yesterday, that old man stood at the door, and seeing me pass by,
he called out, "Are you perhaps a matchmaker?" I replied, "Indeed." He then invited me into his home, pointed
to my daughter, and said, "This is my daughter. She wants to find a suitable son-in-law to support her in her old age. Please keep an eye out for one for me."
'I then introduced him to the gentleman, and he said, 'I have heard of his talent, but I do not know his character.' I continued, '
The gentleman is mature beyond his years, without any flaws. However, he insists on seeing the man in person before making a betrothal.' Upon hearing this, he
frowned and said, 'Nonsense! Only the skinny horses kept by Yangzhou families are
willing to be seen by men; how can a proper daughter agree to meet a man?' Seeing that he had said this, I knew I could not say anything more and left. Therefore, I knew this marriage was doomed.'

Wei Yangsheng thought to himself, 'I have no parents or brothers now.
If I marry tomorrow, who will restrain my mind? Even if I were imprisoned, wouldn't I have times when I need to go out? This old man is like that; if I marry into his
family, I won't need to worry. His own daughter will naturally take care of her, and I can go out for the rest of my life without any problems. But I'm still uneasy without seeing the man in person
; how can I trust a matchmaker's words?' So he said to him, 'According to you, the marriage is excellent, after all…'
" I
impossible. If you don't believe me, you'll have to consult the oracle and ask the gods for guidance. Do what you should do, and don't do what you shouldn't." Wei Yangsheng
said, "That's true. I have a friend who consults the immortals and their predictions are very accurate. I'll ask him to make a judgment, and then I'll get back to
you." The matchmaker agreed and left.

The next day, Wei Yangsheng fasted and bathed, and invited his friend who had consulted the immortals to his home. He burned incense, bowed, and whispered a prayer: "This disciple
has no other business than the daughter of the Iron Gate Taoist, named Yuxiang. I've heard that she is exceptionally beautiful and I want to marry her, but I haven't seen her in person
. So I'm asking the Great Immortal for advice. If she is indeed exceptionally beautiful, this disciple will marry her; otherwise, I will refuse. I humbly beg the Great
Immortal to give clear instructions, not vague words that leave this disciple unable to understand." After offering his prayers, he bowed four more times, then rose and helped Xianluan up,
allowing him to write. Sure enough, he wrote a poem: "

The foremost among beauties, need not doubt ghosts or gods.
Only worry that her allure will lead to lewdness, at the crossroads of good and evil, seek guidance. "

Poem) Upon seeing this poem, Wei Yangsheng thought, "She certainly has good looks, but the last line clearly says her allure leads to
lewdness. Could this woman have already been defiled? Since the poem ends with 'First Poem,' there must be another one

A woman's chastity cannot be reversed by lewdness, but a man must manage his household well.

Inscribed by Hui Daoren) Upon seeing the three characters "Hui Daoren," Wei Yangsheng knew it was Lü Chunyang's pseudonym, and was overjoyed, saying, "This man
is extremely skilled in wine and women; if he says it's good, then it's good. " The following poem is meant to dispel my doubts and warn me to be cautious
. I thought that since the old man was keeping an eye on me, nothing would happen. The last two lines clearly state that no one could penetrate the iron gate
, so there was no need to doubt anymore. I bowed to Chunyang in gratitude and asked someone to summon the matchmaker. I instructed her, "The immortal poem's judgment is excellent
. There's no need to hide it now; go and propose marriage."

The matchmaker was delighted and went to the Taoist's house with the iron gate, explaining Weiyang Sheng's intention to propose marriage. The Taoist priest said, "His
insistence on a physical meeting first shows he values beauty over virtue; his frivolity is evident. I want a son-in-law of good character, not
such a worldly person." The matchmaker, wanting to earn her commission, cleverly replied, "His insistence on a physical meeting isn't about beauty
, but rather his fear that his frivolous behavior and lack of auspicious appearance will prevent him from finding a wife. Therefore, I've found that your household is very strict in its upbringing, and your daughter
possesses excellent moral character, which is why you feel at ease and have specifically asked me to propose marriage." The Taoist priest, finding his reasoning sound, agreed to the marriage.
The auspicious day was set for the marriage.

Although Wei Yangsheng listened to the matchmaker and believed the fairy's words, he remained hesitant because they hadn't yet met. Only on their wedding
night, after the ceremony, did they enter the bridal chamber and, upon closer inspection, he was overjoyed. How could he see the beauty of the bride? A new poem
testifies:

"Her figure is graceful, her whole being is charming.
Charming, even her sorrowful expression is captivating, her furrowed brows are hard to    imitate .

I still worry she's not the right bride, her waist so slender, how can I embrace her?
How can I embrace her, so soft and boneless, I'll be startled by her leaning against me. "   How could he see the joy of the bride and groom's marriage? Another new poem testifies: "   Her starry eyes meet with anticipation, on the pillow, peach blossoms sing of two petals.   She tries to keep her mouth shut with the scent of rouge, but her tongue has already parted her lips.   Her delicate cries cease, but her feelings are boundless, her soft breasts are already sweating.   They open their eyes to look at each other, their hearts burning like red-hot coals."    The poem "Yu Lou Chun"   describes Miss Yu Xiang as having unparalleled beauty, but lacking in charm, and not quite meeting her husband's expectations. This is because her father's discipline is strict, and her mother's conduct is dignified; she hears no lewd sounds, sees no immoral sights, and reads only classics like "Biographies of Virtuous Women" and "Classic of Filial Piety for Women." Her words contradict Wei Yangsheng's own desires. As for her behavior, she inevitably resembles her father, earning her the nickname "Female Moralist." A single flirtatious word from her would cause her to blush and walk away. Wei Yangsheng greatly enjoys daytime sex, using the sight of genitalia to enhance his lust. Tomorrow I will buy a wonderfully crafted erotic album from the calligraphy and painting shop, the work of the scholar Zhao Zi'ang, containing thirty-six paintings, alluding to the thirty-six palaces of Tang poetry, all representing spring. If you can afford a hundred taels, take it and burn it. If not, leave it here and I'll play with it for a day or two before returning it ." Yu Xiang said, "What's the use of looking at such a worthless thing?" Wei Yangsheng replied, "If it were worthless, painters wouldn't paint it, and collectors wouldn't pay a high price for it. It's only because it's the first truly significant event since the beginning of time that scholars and artists have painted it, mounted it on silk, sold it in art shops, and collected it in literary circles, so that future generations..." Those who come the way of life will be completely cut off, until there are no more people left. I borrowed this today not only to read it myself, but also to let my wife know this principle, which is excellent for conception and pregnancy, for bearing sons and daughters, so that she will not be misled by your father's Taoist teachings, which would lead to a dead end for the couple . How could they depict them so vividly, arousing the reader at first glance?” Yu Xiang said, “ Then why don't my parents do things during the day?” Wei Yangsheng said, “May I ask, my wife, how do you know your parents don't do things during the day?” Yu Xiang said, “If they did, I would at least catch them. Why, at sixteen years old, do I not know?” Bumped into it once? Not to mention that the eyes have not seen, and the ears have not heard? Wei Yangsheng laughed and said, "I'm so confused." Woman! The fourth painting depicts a hungry horse running towards its trough.

state of extreme stillness. However, the woman's feet had not yet left her body, still resting between the man's shoulders and arms, leaving a sliver of life.
Otherwise, they would have resembled a pair of dead people, making the viewer think of their shared coffin and grave.

Yu Xiang, upon seeing this, felt a surge of lust. Wei Yangsheng turned another page, about to point it out to him, but Yu Xiang pushed the book
away, stood up, and said, "What a good book! It makes me uncomfortable. Get up and read it yourself; I'm going to sleep.
" Wei Yangsheng said, "There's more to come. Finish it all and then we'll go to sleep." Yu Xiang said, "Is
there no tomorrow? Must I finish it today?" "Wei Yangsheng knew he was anxious, so he embraced and kissed him. Usually, when they kissed
, he could only offer his tongue, but Yu Xiang's teeth were tightly closed, and he couldn't even get it to come over. After a month of marriage, he still didn't know the difference in tongue length

No matter how high a building is, or how thick a wall is, I can easily enter its bedchamber and steal everything without it
. I won't let them know until the next day. People say there was once a Kunlun who could fly into Lord Guo's mansion and steal the red silk
. He only did it once in his life, while I have done it hundreds of times. That is why I am called 'Sai Kunlun'."   Wei Yangsheng was greatly surprised and said, "Since you have been doing this for so long and have become famous, known to everyone, won't you get into trouble?
" Sai Kunlun said, "If I get into trouble, I won't be a hero. There's an old saying, 'Catch the thief with the stolen goods.' If I can't catch the thief red-handed, I'll just tell him, and he won't dare to do anything to me. Everyone near and far flatters me, fearing that offending me will lead to my scheming. If I steal from them, it's like adding fuel to the fire; they won't be able to handle it. That's why I don't steal from them. When someone has a happy occasion, whether it's a wedding, a housewarming party, or a birthday celebration..." It's his birthday, a time of great joy for him. If I were to steal from him, it would bring him bad luck and hinder his future endeavors. Therefore, I won't go. Stealing from a complete stranger wouldn't be wrong. But if it were someone I see every day, someone I greet with respect , he wouldn't suspect me, and I would feel ashamed. That's why I won't go.
