There are too many scammers, and not enough fools to go around. (Edited)

On Tuesday, I was to meet the so-called "couple" I had been chatting with on the forum for a while. (I was too careless; I hadn't done sufficient research beforehand.)

Initially, they asked me to find a place. This made me lower my guard somewhat and won me over. After all, having me find a place meant they trusted me, making it harder for them to carry out a honey trap and eliminating the possibility of a shill. So, I provided two places for them to choose from. They chose one. I thought that since I was single and they were a couple, I should show due sincerity, so I planned to book the hotel room. At this point, they released another signal to win my favor. They said they would book the room, making it easier for them to maintain their identities as a couple, and also making me relatively safer. I was somewhat surprised; I hadn't expected them to be so considerate of me, which made me even more relaxed. Then, after seeing screenshots of them booking the hotel room, I transferred the money. (Thinking back now, I realize I was already in the trap from this point onward. I was completely off guard and at their mercy.)

Next, they asked if I had any uniforms or props. I had some props, but no uniforms. They immediately said they'd go to a physical store to buy one. When they came back, they showed me the bill, and I paid for it as well.

The next day, I had something to do and left late. They kept asking where I was. Then they said they'd bought test strips so we could all test and put each other at ease, and they'd even ordered takeout for me to eat with them. At this point, I was completely being led by the nose because they'd been behaving very politely. I couldn't be too bad, so I offered to cover the cost. They declined twice before sending the money.

That's when the unexpected happened. If I had calmed down and thought things through, I could have seen a big problem. But because I was being rushed and in a hurry, I ignored the issue revealed by this unexpected turn of events.

Actually, from the very beginning, when I first tried to transfer money, I suggested adding her on WeChat so I could transfer directly from there. She disagreed (this was where the problem started) and insisted I transfer from WeChat to QQ Wallet. I tried a few times and succeeded. So, the first two transfers were from WeChat to QQ Wallet and then to the recipient. However, for the third transfer, which was for the (test kit + takeout) fee, QQ Wallet blocked my transfer, which confused me. I tried several times without success, and since I was almost there, the scammer finally couldn't resist and sent me a WeChat payment QR code. But that also failed—I guess because she was a scammer, her WeChat account had already been reported and restricted. To receive the money, she was clearly desperate, sending me three WeChat payment QR codes in a row, but I couldn't transfer any of them successfully. This also shows that this wasn't the first or second time she'd done this; all three of her WeChat accounts were blocked.

At this point, she pretended to be a woman and asked me to top up her phone number, saying that if I didn't, she wouldn't come to pick me up. (That's why he insisted on booking a hotel room for me. If I booked the room, he wouldn't get the room fee, and he also wouldn't be able to scam me at this point. Because I had no idea which room it was, I was completely at his mercy.)

After the recharge was successful, she told me she was coming down the elevator to meet me and told me not to leave.

From
that moment, only about a minute later, her previously enthusiastic and constantly messaging profile picture suddenly stopped, and there were no more messages. I waited foolishly downstairs for over half an hour, but the person she described never appeared. I knew I had been scammed, but still unwilling to give up, I asked, "Why haven't I seen you yet?" Still, no one answered. I waited another ten minutes or so, and finally asked, "Have you blocked me?" She replied after a long pause, saying she had to go home because of something...

I was practically petrified. Looking back now, if I had just calmed down, I could have noticed many, many flaws in the whole process. However, perhaps because my previous experiences with dating went relatively smoothly, and I was able to identify most of the scammers, I became too relaxed and overconfident.

I haven't organized my thoughts much while writing this; I just wanted to get my thoughts out. I know I was scammed, and I know it's my own fault. Whether it's a lot or a little money, consider it a lesson learned. To the single men on the forum, although I was scammed, there are still good couples on the forum who can genuinely connect with you. But you must keep your eyes open and distinguish between the real and the fake. Losing money is a small matter, but the time and energy wasted is truly devastating. To

the genuine couples on the forum, you too, be careful in everything you do. Finally, as I said at the beginning, there are too many scammers; someone like me simply isn't enough.
