Daytime sexual stimulation can promote nighttime erections.

Nocturnal penile erections are an objective manifestation of subconscious penile tumescence and a reliable indicator of penile erectile function during wakefulness. However, due to various factors, many people experience insufficient erectile rigidity.

Regarding the mechanism by which visual and auditory stimulation improves nocturnal penile erections, although the exact mechanism is not fully understood, most experts believe it is part of autonomic nervous system activity, resulting from the transmission of impulses from the central nervous system to the sacral nerve plexus, causing erection. Increased bladder pressure can also lead to a subconscious reflexive erection of the penis. It is generally believed that during sleep, most brain cells are at rest, with only a small portion still working. Visual stimuli are greatly reduced, and brain cells react slowly to information from various sensory organs, easily leading to inaccurate interpretations and misinterpretations (e.g., mistaking a rope for a snake, or low temperature for ice and snow). Even without objective stimuli, brain cells spontaneously undergo periodic fluctuations, manifested as alternation between orthodox and paradoxical sleep. These fluctuations in memory cells can cause memories to surface to varying degrees, a common phenomenon known as "what you think about during the day, you dream about at night." The intensity of these fluctuations varies, sometimes approaching wakefulness, and can cause eye movements, partial limb movements, and penile erections, potentially affecting the next day's sleep. Penile erections at night are influenced by sleep quality, and changes in sleep patterns can also affect sleep quality. It takes time for the body to adapt to a new sleep pattern. Generally speaking, in a new environment, the quality of sleep on the second night is better than on the first night, and therefore, nocturnal penile erections are better on the second night.

During visual and auditory stimulation, regardless of whether there is erectile dysfunction (which may be suppressed due to subjective factors), when information is transmitted to the brain via the visual and auditory nerves, the relevant brain cells retain impressions to varying degrees, forming memories. During sleep, it is the spontaneous vibration of these memory cells that generates or strengthens nerve impulses, which are then transmitted along the efferent nerves to the sacral plexus, leading to or strengthening penile erection. Therefore, visual and auditory stimulation has a promoting effect on improving nocturnal penile erections.
