How to calculate the safe period and the dangerous period

    page views:1  Publication date:2023-05-25
Perhaps it's related to the upcoming Valentine's Day, but many netizens have asked about women's safe period. Indeed, in addition to enjoying sex, it's also important to consider safety and hygiene, which is a crucial issue in today's complex interpersonal relationships and multiple sexual relationships.
Of course, some married women who want to have a baby also need to take advantage of the fertile window, which is the ovulation period, in order to successfully conceive. In both cases, it is necessary to understand one's menstrual cycle in order to achieve the desired result.
Menstrual cycle:
The menstrual cycle is defined as the period from the first day of menstruation until the day before the next menstruation. It is generally about 26-35 days long.
The menstrual cycle can be mainly divided into two phases.
The first stage is from the first day of menstruation until the day of ovulation, which lasts approximately 12-22 days, varying depending on individual differences. Below, I will use a 28-day cycle as an example:
Menstruation lasts about 3-5 days. On the 7th day, the pituitary gland secretes hormones to stimulate the development of the egg. Once the egg matures, the pituitary gland begins to secrete estrogen, causing the uterine tissue to thicken. This process continues until ovulation on the 14th day of the cycle, at which point the first phase ends.
The second phase is roughly the same for everyone, which is from the day of ovulation to the start of the next menstrual period. Usually, menstruation will start two weeks, or 14 days, after ovulation.
During this period, the mature egg travels from the ovary through the fallopian tubes to the uterus. This journey to the uterus coincides with ovulation, lasting approximately 24-48 hours. During this time, estrogen levels decrease while progesterone levels rise, causing the uterine lining to thicken to facilitate implantation of a fertilized egg. If sperm is present at this time, fertilization occurs, and pregnancy begins. However, if fertilization does not occur, the egg will shrink within 1-2 days in the uterus. Then, after about two weeks, the thickened uterine lining will naturally shed, initiating the next menstrual cycle, which continues in this manner.
As you can see from the above explanation, an egg only has a real chance of fertilization for 1-2 days during the entire menstrual cycle. If you want to avoid pregnancy, do you only need to avoid these 1-2 days? Actually, no. You also need to consider the sperm. Sperm can survive for about 72 hours, or three days, after entering the uterus. Therefore, to avoid sperm that are still in the uterus three days before ovulation having a chance to combine with the newly released egg, the fertile window is moved forward by three days. The rest of the time is considered the safe period.
Some people have very regular menstrual cycles that are easy to calculate, while others may occasionally have a few days' difference. Of course, some people's cycles may also change due to individual factors such as emotions, stress, insomnia, illness, and amount of exercise. If you want to calculate your cycle more accurately, you may need to calculate about six months' worth of cycles to find the longest and shortest cycles.
The algorithm is:
Subtract 14 from both the longest and shortest menstrual cycle lengths.
Then subtract three days from the previous day and add one day to the next day.
The longest period among the calculated values is the fertile window. For a woman with a 26-day menstrual cycle, ovulation occurs on day 12, and the fertile window is from day 9 to day 13. For a woman with a menstrual cycle of approximately 30-32 days, ovulation occurs around day 16 to day 18, and the fertile window is from day 13 to day 19 (because menstrual cycles vary, the fertile window needs to be extended).
For unmarried men and women who meet during this period, if they do not want to get married too early because of their children, they should take precautions against pregnancy. If they are already married and want to have children, they should make good use of this time.
