Discussion of European and American erotic and pornographic films

Speaking of European and American pornographic films, I think I don't need to introduce them. If I were to go into detail about European and American pornographic films here, some people would definitely think I'm a pervert. Authentic European and American pornographic films are simply performances of sex, or rather, carnal desire. Various obscene sexual performances can only be considered a kind of spiritual opium, lacking even the most basic entertainment value. Therefore, I strongly suggest not watching them, especially for minors! Let's talk about the kind of films I mentioned above that are about sex for the sake of sex.

Italian director Tinto Brass is hailed by some in China as the "Emperor of Erotic Films," so you can easily imagine what kind of works he produces. Let's select a few to understand how the "Emperor of Erotic Films" is erotic. Tinto Brass emphasizes the sexual allure of women in every film he makes, and often uses multi-faceted cinematography to capture the beautiful women and scenery in a seamless and breathtaking way. Moreover, he is most adept at portraying women's desire for sex and praising the female body while uglifying and satirizing the male body. In his film *Love and Passion*, there is a scene where two American women sit on a glamorous nude beach in Italy, laughing loudly and making unrestrained comments about the genitals of passing Italian men, interpreting each man's genitals to suggest his status and position. Barras's depictions of women in his films have been interpreted by some as promoting feminism, while others consider them a slander against women. Only he himself truly knows the truth; perhaps he was simply providing the audience with sensual pleasure.

Among Barras's erotic works, *Caligula* holds a significant place. This film cannot be viewed merely as pornography; behind its lewd scenes lies a deeper meaning. Following the life of King Caligula, the film shockingly portrays his life, revealing on a deeper level how the indulgence of desire brought about by power directly led to his downfall. The film is filled with numerous sexual depictions to expose Caligula's debauchery. The most spectacular scene is a massive, chaotic orgy, leaving viewers speechless! However, most reviews overemphasize the film's sex scenes, leading some to mistakenly believe it's simply a sex film. The director's true intentions can only be understood after watching it. In this respect, Tinto Brass is indeed a master. Hong Kong directors often make erotic films for commercial gain, prioritizing entertainment, while he not only uses eroticism to express his thoughts and viewpoints but also to convey symbolic meaning.

However, there are countless European and American directors who make erotic films, and we shouldn't limit ourselves to Tinto Brass's work. Hollywood directors are also skilled in this area, so let's introduce a few American erotic films to everyone. Paul Thomas Anderson's 1997 film *Boogie Nights* is undeniably an erotic film, as evidenced by its mainland Chinese title. However, the Hong Kong title, *One Step to Fame*, perhaps better captures its erotic nature. Pretty impressive, right? A man who can achieve instant fame must be incredibly charismatic! The story takes place in late 1970s America. A restaurant worker (Mark Wahlberg) living in San Francisco Valley, California, becomes famous overnight for his exceptional physique by filming adult movies, leading to a life of luxury and the name Dirk Diegler. However, his career declines with the rise of videotapes in the 1980s, and he only makes an impression in amateur pornographic films. The most dazzling star in this film is undoubtedly Felicity Shagwell herself, who plays Heather Graham, a character who is completely naked throughout the entire film—it's as if the movie was filmed without any clothes on. For an established actress, her performance is quite successful. The film also features the famous porn star Amber Waves, which gives you an idea of the film's level of eroticism. Like Tinto Brass, Anderson doesn't rely solely on sex as the film's selling point; while the sex scenes are exquisite, the story itself is also quite entertaining.

I didn't originally intend to introduce Madonna's films, but considering some might have a fondness for her performances in erotic films, I'll introduce one of her movies anyway. I originally wanted to introduce Sharon Stone's *Basic Instinct*, but I felt cheated when I was in school, so I'll skip it. The reason I felt cheated was because I was lured in by the blush-inducing words in the movie theater advertisements, only to find that apart from Sharon Stone's leg-crossing scene, which sparked some imagination, I saw nothing else. As everyone knows, back then, going to the movies was always purposeful; I wouldn't easily go in unless I saw titles like "Body of Evidence" or "Body of Evidence."

Although I went to the theater (more accurately, to the video rental section) to fill a void back then, looking back now, it not only enriched my experience but also gave me something to write about—I definitely shouldn't regret wasting my time! "Body of Evidence" is a 1993 film starring Madonna. Madonna plays a sexy woman accused of murder after her lover dies during sex, and is tried in court. Willem Dafoe plays a lawyer who defends her but falls hopelessly in love with her and has a relationship with her. For an erotic film, this plot is quite good, isn't it? One memorable scene in the film is when Madonna says goodnight to Dafoe, but instead of closing the door and going to sleep, she stands alone on the balcony in a bathrobe, gazing into the distance. Any normal man would understand the meaning behind this scene, and Dafoe is no exception. After a passionate prelude, the two begin to get into the swing of things. Madonna leads Dafoe into her bedroom, then binds his hands and feet and pours hot candle wax on his body to stimulate their own and each other's sexual desire. Madonna's methods are truly unique; no wonder there have been recent reports that she believes only Michael Jackson is a man she cannot conquer. To be honest, I still have doubts about Michael Jackson's current gender, so it's entirely conceivable that she couldn't conquer him. However, I wonder if she means that she can conquer any normal man.

Let's leave it at that. It's really difficult to define these kinds of films as classics. Everyone has different purposes and aesthetic views when appreciating films, so it's naturally difficult to judge their quality by the same standard. I'm just sharing my observations and thoughts; how you react is up to you. Sorry, I've revealed my bad habit of watching erotic films. Frankly, those were mistakes I made "when I was younger," and I haven't watched them in ages. But that's not entirely true; I might occasionally glance at a film I consider a classic, but definitely not for the sake of "sex." Enough said, the more I talk, the worse it gets!
