Ranran, the Rising Sun Sister - Chapter Twenty-Five: The Sports Meet

Before the sports meet, Chen Muyang would run three laps around the school every day before going home. Song Yiran would wait for him while doing her homework at her seat. Several times, her stomach would growl and she would get so hungry that she had no choice but to shamelessly ask Lin Xiaoyu for a few cookies.
On the way back, they ate fast food from roadside stalls. Chen Muyang had a big appetite, while Song Yiran had a small appetite, so Chen Muyang often finished off the food she couldn't finish.
Thinking back to when they were little, he used to eat about the same amount as her, but now he can eat two big bowls of rice and finish them all, Song Yiran was still shocked.
However, Chen Muyang said dismissively, "Brother Tao and I ate about the same amount. Maomao has only ever eaten four bowls of rice of this size. And don't even mention that fat guy Lao Zhang."
"Wow...you guys are really amazing."
In preparation for the opening ceremony of the sports meet, each class racked their brains to come up with ideas to make their class stand out. From class uniforms to slogans to formations, everything tested everyone's creativity and unity.
The sports meet on Thursday and Friday arrived as scheduled amidst everyone's eager anticipation.
Song Yiran and several others who did not participate in the sports meet were responsible for writing cheering speeches for the athletes. In fact, Song Yiran had already copied a lot of speeches from the internet beforehand.
Chen Muyang went to watch his friend Tao jump in the sandpit, while Lin Xiaoyu waited at the 100-meter registration point. She planned to enter the track in another ten minutes.
She copied a few more encouraging messages and decided to go cheer for Lin Xiaoyu. Just then, she saw Chen Muyang joking around with some other boys near the sandpit.
Song Yiran felt that she had now mastered the skill of finding him quickly.
Seeing him smile, she couldn't help but smile back, even though she didn't know what she was smiling about.
She took out her phone and sent him a message: "You look so silly with that smile!"
She closed her phone, grabbed a bottle of water, and went to search for the finish line of the 100-meter race.
While waiting at the 100-meter finish line, her phone vibrated.
You were spying on me.
Song Yiran chuckled softly and was about to type when another message arrived: "You're smiling so silly too."
She looked up and around, only to find that Chen Muyang had unknowingly walked a few meters away from her.
No wonder he saw her smile.
"Are you planning to watch Lin Xiaoyu's match?" Chen Muyang walked up to her and asked.
She smiled and nodded.
"Why aren't you watching your friend jump into the sandpit?"
"Tao Ge finished his performance and came in seventh place."
"Oh...it's alright."
"The men's 100-meter race starts first; your friend's race will be a while before he enters the field."
"That's alright, watching the men's 100 meters is fine too."
Chen Muyang glanced down at him sideways. "Chat with me."
She looked up and saw his clear, sunny eyes, and couldn't help but be captivated by his gentle gaze. Just then, the starting gun brought her back to reality.
"I don't want to chat with you, I want to hold your hand, hug you, and kiss you." She typed this message into her phone and showed it to him.
Seeing his face turn red instantly, Song Yiran covered her mouth and chuckled smugly.
Chen Muyang coughed a few times. She dared to flirt with him in broad daylight.
He snatched her phone and quickly typed: "Go home. You wait here."
He then raised an eyebrow, his eyes gleaming with a competitive spirit.
She reluctantly put her phone away, suppressing her laughter, "Just watching the game."
"Is this water for your friend? Let me get it for you."
When Song Yiran handed him the water, Chen Muyang took the opportunity to stroke the back of her hand a few times. She didn't dodge and let him do as he pleased.
After waiting quite a while, Lin Xiaoyu finally appeared. Song Yiran fiddled with her phone, standing on tiptoe, wanting to take a few photos. Chen Muyang asked, "Shall I take them for you?"
She shook her head. "I'll take the photos of my own friends."
She didn't want him to take pictures of other girls, not even her own best friends.
Amidst cheers from all around, Song Yiran didn't join in the shouting. Instead, she quietly took photos with her phone. Even though the photos were blurry, when she looked back at them, she found a few quite funny and thought she could save them to scare her later.
Taking advantage of his inattention, she planned to secretly take a picture of his profile. But Chen Muyang knew perfectly well what was going on, and immediately turned his head away, making an incredibly ugly face at her.
"Can't you take pictures properly?" Song Yiran said with a smile, then remembered that she had to bring water to Lin Xiaoyu, so she immediately grabbed the bottled water and ran to her side, with Chen Muyang following behind her.
Lin Xiaoyu leaned happily against Song Yiran, gulped down several mouthfuls of water, and couldn't help but spit out, "I have to run the 4x100 relay tomorrow, I'm exhausted, damn it!"
After she finished speaking, she noticed Chen Muyang standing behind Song Yiran.
"Oh, your brother's here too... Why is he with you?"
"Hmm...respect me, okay?"
Chen Muyang heard this from behind, and his face darkened.
What nonsense is she talking about?
Lin Xiaoyu and Song Yiran wandered aimlessly, with Chen Muyang silently following them. Lin Xiaoyu quietly leaned close to Song Yiran's ear and said, "I have an English word that I want to use to describe your brother."
"What word?"
"Don't be angry when I tell you."
"How could this be..."
Lin Xiaoyu said slowly, "Dog, you promised you wouldn't get angry!"
Upon hearing this, she burst out laughing, turned around to look at the bewildered Chen Muyang, and said to Lin Xiaoyu, "He looks just like him, so much like him. Wait a moment, I need to say a few words to him."
Song Yiran walked over and patted his arm. He leaned forward slightly, and she whispered, "Go find your friends and play. I'll make sure to get a good spot at the finish line for your race this afternoon. Otherwise, Xiaoyu will feel a little awkward with you here."
Chen Muyang nodded and said, "Okay." He paused, then added, "You have to come."
"Don't worry, I'll get there as fast as I can."
Seeing Chen Muyang leave, Lin Xiaoyu finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Your brother is finally gone."
"Just ignore him, okay? Besides, you've already eaten together."
"Such a big head, standing coldly behind you, it's really an eyesore!" she complained, gesturing with her hands.
"Alright, what match do you want to watch now?"
"I don't know, just browsing."
"Could you copy some encouraging messages for me?"
"Okay, let's go to that bench over there."
Song Yiran and Lin Xiaoyu wrote some cheering speeches together, watched a few races, ate lunch early, and then went back to the shade of the trees on the playground. Lin Xiaoyu was unaware that Song Yiran was eagerly anticipating Chen Muyang's 1000-meter race; she only saw Song Yiran staring thoughtfully at the bottled water beside her and assumed she was just daydreaming again.
At 1:30 p.m., her phone vibrated again.
"I'm at the roll call point for the 1000 meters."
Song Yiran quickly pressed the letters on her phone keypad: "Then I'm going to reserve my VIP seat."
"I need to give my phone to Mao Mao, so don't reply to this."
She put her phone in her pocket, wiped her glasses clean with a tissue, and then said to Lin Xiaoyu, who was looking at her phone next to her, "I'm going to watch the men's 1000 meters, are you coming?"
Lin Xiaoyu shook her head. "It's so hot... I don't think the endurance race is very interesting. I want to stay in the shade and cool off."
"I'll head over now!"
"Okay, go ahead, do your best for your brother."
She jogged all the way to the finish line of the 1000 meters and waited quietly.
It seemed like it would be quite a while. She stood in the sun, sweating profusely, holding a bottle of mineral water. Her sweaty palms could barely grip the bottle; it was unclear whether she had warmed the water up.
She waited and waited, and finally just plopped down on the lawn, pulling up a few blades of grass and playing with them.
Not long after, she heard the school loudspeaker announce: "The men's 1000-meter and women's 800-meter middle-distance race finals are about to begin. Teachers and students still on the track, please leave the track as soon as possible."
She jumped up, patted the grass off her bottom, and stared intently at the starting line of the race not far away.
There were so many people that she couldn't see him clearly.
Somewhat unconvinced, Song Yiran stood on tiptoe and carefully scanned the area again, finally spotting his blurry figure, which was occasionally blocked by others.
After more than ten minutes, the race was finally about to begin. Song Yiran stared intently at the crowd at the starting line, and suddenly felt as if she had been transported back to last year. A similar scene, similar weather, watching the same person.
She probably developed feelings for him that went beyond sibling affection back then, or perhaps even earlier? She herself wasn't quite sure. From their first kiss until now, it seemed like only about four months had passed, and they had even done the most intimate things.
The thought of this made her face flush red.
Sexual relations were like a veil covering them, a veil that Chen Muyang lifted first. Even though he was inexperienced, he personally and firmly led her into this mysterious swamp.
She recalled the strong winds and heavy rain that day, and the intimate moments that night; for some reason, her legs felt weak.
While lost in a jumble of random thoughts, she heard the sound of a starting gun, snapped back to reality, and realized they had already started running.
She hurriedly followed his figure; he was currently in the middle of the line.
Chen Muyang saw her, smiled at her with narrowed eyes, looking confident. She casually grinned and waved to him. Chen Muyang proudly raised his chin, then continued running intently.
She felt as if she were running alongside him, her heart pounding wildly.
After finishing the first lap, he gradually accelerated, taking longer strides, and slowly overtaking one opponent after another, while the cheers of the spectators around him grew increasingly enthusiastic.
Song Yiran clutched the mineral water bottle tightly in her arms, her heart pounding. She didn't even notice when someone accidentally stepped on her shoe; her eyes simply followed him silently.
Amidst the deafening shouts of "Go athletes!" from the school loudspeakers and the cheers of the spectators, one athlete after another reached the finish line.
After crossing the finish line, Chen Muyang, panting heavily, looked around and found her in the same spot. He smiled and made a "3" gesture to her, and Song Yiran immediately understood that he had come in third place.
She reached out and shook the bottle of mineral water in her hand. Chen Muyang slowly walked over, twisted open the cap, and drank most of the bottle heartily.
Song Yiran looked up and accidentally saw water leaking from his mouth, flowing down his chin, down his neck, and past his Adam's apple.
She found it strange that seeing his prominent Adam's apple bobbing up and down always made her heart flutter for no reason. Later she realized that it might be a peculiar fetish; she liked this action that carried a strong sense of wildness.
Just like Chen Muyang liked to suck her earlobe and liked her slender, fair legs. Everyone has their own quirks.
"Third place, actually a step down." Chen Muyang laughed self-deprecatingly, but his tone and expression were very relaxed.
"Amazing, so cool." Although Song Yiran only said five short words, they struck a chord with him. Chen Muyang couldn't hide his excitement and his upper gums showed as he smiled.
She thought to herself, "Sure enough, boys like to hear this kind of talk." But she was really telling the truth.

It's embarrassing to admit, but I was so heartbroken by tonight's episode of Ashes of Love that I couldn't sleep, so I wrote a chapter.
