Little Deer - Chapter Seventy-Seven: Delivering Documents

Liang Lu had been rearranging the two jobs on her desk for several days, and she was going through a fierce internal struggle every day. Her desk was right outside Cheng Dan's office, and every time Xiao Qin entered or left Cheng Dan's office, he would always glance at her seemingly casually, as if he were inspecting the work. Whenever their eyes met, she would feel inexplicably guilty.
With the Spring Festival holiday fast approaching, Liang Lu wanted to finalize her job before the holiday. So, that morning, before Xiao Qin showed up, she went into Cheng Dan's office to express her opinion.
Cheng Dan paused for two seconds upon hearing her final decision, seemingly surprised that she chose to go to the group instead of Xiao Qin. However, she didn't ask any questions, but simply congratulated her generously and was happy for her. Finally, she pulled a document from the table, saying she was too busy and asked Liang Lu to deliver it to President Xiao.
Liang Lu had often delivered documents before, but delivering them to Xiao Qin at this crucial moment felt a bit forced. But then she thought that since she had made the decision, she should indeed tell Xiao Qin, and delivering the documents would give her a convenient excuse.
As soon as Liang Lu left the office, Cheng Dan called Xiao Qin's office.
Judging from their previous demeanor, Cheng Dan vaguely sensed that their relationship was unusual. Liang Lu hesitated to make a decision, thinking that she was just putting on airs and throwing a tantrum with Xiao Qin. After all, it would be foolish not to seize an opportunity with a top-notch bachelor like President Xiao. But unexpectedly, Liang Lu really was a fool.
Now she's in a bind. She doesn't dare detain the person, but if she just lets her go, she won't be able to explain it to Boss Xiao. So she sends someone up there and calls ahead to let them know. Whether she can keep the person or not depends on Boss Xiao.
The elevator continued upwards, and Liang Lu felt a little dazed. She hadn't expected that after half a year here, she would be leaving. This was probably the last time she would take the elevator to Xiao Qin's office like this.
She recalled the expression on Cheng Dan's face just now; although it was only fleeting, she had seen it clearly. She imagined that if she really stayed and became his secretary, everyone in the company would probably have that same expression on their faces. She wondered what people would say behind her back: a gold digger? A scheming woman? A homewrecker who took advantage of Li Jia's car accident? Or simply a plaything?
The elevator doors slowly opened, and Liang Lu's mocking smile vanished. She had intended to leave the documents with Xiao Qin's assistant, Zhou Feng, and inform him of her decision before leaving, but upon exiting the elevator, she found no one at Xiao Qin's workstation outside his office. Everyone knew Cheng Yu had resigned, but even Assistant Zhou wasn't there, and the phone on his desk kept ringing without being answered.
Liang Lu stood beside Zhou Feng's workstation, unsure whether to wait for him or knock on Xiao Qin's office door directly. Hesitating, she looked around and noticed that Xiao Qin's office door wasn't closed, just slightly ajar, leaving a small crack. Getting closer, she could faintly hear male and female voices and the sounds of objects clattering inside; the situation seemed somewhat intense.
As if possessed, Liang Lu pushed open the door and froze on the spot. Inside, pen holders and documents were scattered on the floor of the desk, and a woman, her clothes disheveled, was snuggling into Xiao Qin's arms.
The creaking sound of the door opening reached the room, and the person inside stopped and turned around. Only then did Liang Lu realize that the woman was Cheng Yu.
Xiao Qin was the first to react, shoving away the person who was clinging to her chest like a piece of chewing gum, and coldly snapped, "Put it on!"
At this moment, Cheng Yu stopped pretending and gave Liang Lu a resentful look, as if her good time had been interrupted. She pouted and buttoned up her clothes.
Xiao Qin's lips were pressed into a straight line; it was rare to see him so angry. Once he had straightened his clothes, he flung the door open and pointed outside, saying to her, "Get out!"
Still not satisfied, Chengyu pouted and called out, "Brother Darren..."
"Get out! Go back to your America tomorrow and don't let me see you again! Otherwise, you'll see."
His face was ashen, and his serious expression was frightening. Cheng Yu dared not speak anymore, and could only stomp his feet in annoyance, then slunk away with his bag, not forgetting to glare at Liang Lu as he passed by.
Zhou Feng, clutching his stomach, emerged from the direction of the restroom. He glanced at Cheng Yu's retreating figure and then at the messy room before him, feeling somewhat lost and bewildered. He sensed an eerie atmosphere and wondered what had happened while he was having diarrhea.
Xiao Qin seemed genuinely angry this time, and his expression turned cold as he looked at Zhou Feng. His narrow eyes narrowed, and he asked, "How did she get in?"
Zhou Feng quickly said, "Miss Cheng said she left something in her office and came to look for it, so I didn't stop her. Later, I had an upset stomach and went to the restroom. So, is she... here to cause trouble?"
Xiao Qin glanced back at the mess in the room, didn't reply, but coldly instructed, "Be careful next time, don't let irrelevant people in again."
Zhou Feng readily agreed. The phone on the table rang again. He felt a huge sense of relief and rushed to answer it, inwardly cursing the situation he had just experienced, wondering what terrible thing had happened to him. As he answered the phone, he rubbed his stomach, his gaze suddenly falling on the cup of coffee next to the phone. It was a gift from Cheng Yu, who said he had bought it on his way and was treating him to coffee. He had been quite happy, but now he realized that his diarrhea had probably started after drinking that coffee… A sudden chill ran down his spine, and he quickly threw the coffee into the trash can at his feet.
Xiao Qin closed the door, picking up the things scattered on the floor as he explained to Liang Lu, "Don't misunderstand, just now..."
Liang Lu also squatted down to help him put the things on the ground back on the table. Her expression was calm as she said, "There's no misunderstanding. I know."
Xiao Qin breathed a sigh of relief, and was about to say something when the phone on his desk rang, interrupting him. Zhou Feng rarely transferred calls to disturb people in the office unless it was urgent.
Xiao Qin said to Liang Lu, "I'll take this call, please wait a moment."
The call was short; he didn't say much. Liang Lu wondered if it was just her imagination, but it seemed as if he glanced at her a few times while listening.
After hanging up the phone, he fell silent. Leaning against the table, he took the last few things Liang Lu had picked up from the floor and put them back on the table. Then he looked at her and remained silent for a long time.
Liang Lu took a few steps forward, handed him the document she had been holding for a while, and said, "Manager Cheng asked me to give you this document."
He glanced at the insignificant document in her hand but didn't take it.
Liang Lu simply walked past him, placed the things on his desk, and said, "Well, I'll go down first." Then she turned to leave.
Xiao Qin finally grabbed her as she passed by and asked, "Don't you have anything else to say to me?"
Liang Lu instinctively felt that he was in a bad mood and it wasn't appropriate to talk to him about that, so she remained silent. But to her surprise, the next second, he clenched his fist tighter and said, "You want to work for the company, don't you?" His voice was so deep it could almost freeze.
