Bodhisattva's Charm - Hearing Moaning in the Night [Full Text]

A few nights ago, I had just fallen asleep when I heard a woman's moans drifting in from outside my window. The weather was hot, and I had the window open to sleep, so the sound was particularly clear. I got up and peeked out the window; the sound was coming from an upstairs window. The moans were sometimes soothing, sometimes high-pitched, accompanied by the creaking of the bed, like a plaintive lament, unbearable to hear. Unable to sleep, I got up, turned on my computer, and, accompanied by her moans, wrote a poem, "Bodhisattva's Lament," to share with you. The first

sound of a mature woman's moans in the dead of night

stirs waves in my heart.

The low moans flow like water,

the high-pitched ones move even ghosts and gods to tears.

The creaking of the bed,

the rhythm perfectly even.

I wonder whose daughter

possesses such a beautiful voice.

Accompanied by a pipa melody,

her voice could quell a thousand armies.
