Long ago, on a late spring afternoon, an old teacher was teaching a large group of students under a locust tree. A gentle breeze blew, and layers of white locust blossoms fell to the ground. On a whim, the old teacher recited, "Under the locust tree, new locust blossoms press down on old ones," and asked one of his students, whom he considered clever, to provide a matching couplet. The student couldn't come up with one immediately. Just then, the teacher's wife came to bring him tea. She wore a beautiful white short-sleeved blouse and a blue pleated pomegranate-colored skirt. The student, who was pondering a couplet, saw how beautiful the teacher's wife was and immediately provided the matching couplet: (a). The teacher's wife was so ashamed that she covered her face and ran away. What was the student's matching couplet?

The teacher asked, "What kind of couplet is this?" The student replied, "It's a bit vulgar, but it's appreciated by all." The teacher thought, "That's true. A good couplet is about perfect parallelism; you can't dismiss it just because it's a little vulgar. Besides, there's no requirement that it can't be vulgar." The teacher, unconvinced that he couldn't guide the student onto the right path, posed another question: "The Yangtze River's front waves push the back waves." The student responded with (b). The teacher said, "You're truly audacious enough to open a dye shop!" and added, "Here's a pair of couplets; someone asked me to write them for a wedding. Write them yourself!" The teacher thought, "You can't possibly write something that's both elegant and vulgar; something proper and respectable, can you?" The student then quickly wrote the couplet: "Open the main gate to welcome the yin gate, send them into the bridal chamber to touch breasts." The teacher sighed, "Lust is beyond redemption! Truly a wolf among wolves!"
