It was past eight o'clock when Xiaoyu got home. Her mother glanced at her from the kitchen and continued washing the dishes, without asking if she had eaten dinner. The boy turned to look at her face in the rearview mirror. "You're so beautiful." He reached out to hold her hand. "Where are we going?" Xiaoyu casually withdrew her hand and used it to brush her bangs aside. The boy chuckled, gripping the steering wheel tightly with both hands, "To my house?" He repeated the topic of the day at school. "...That man..." Xiaoyu lowered her eyes, seemingly casually fiddling with the car window switch, the glass rising and falling in front of her. Xiaoyu watched as the man, carrying his iPad, picked up a cup from the coffee table, turned, and went upstairs. Her throat felt like it was stuck with a fruit pit, a tightness in her chest.
