[Love and Desire Across Ages] (Part Six)

(VI)
The midday sun in late winter is a gift of nature that people living in the Northern Hemisphere are most reluctant to give up,
and Jia Li is no exception. She sat alone in a roadside café on the commercial street, ordered a cappuccino and a small
piece of Black Forest cake, her fingers constantly swiping across her iPhone 4s.
At the next table sat a handsome young man of mixed race, who would occasionally steal glances at a beautiful young woman not far away.
The woman, however, was completely unaware, as her attention remained focused on the China Gold store across the street. Jia Li's
purpose was clear: she was there to find clues about the mistress that Sister Wu had mentioned. She had been there since before 10 a.m.
, probably for over three hours.
Jia Li knew that this was likely futile, but she still persisted in observing from the café. Whenever
a tall, beautiful young woman approached the gold store, she would become extremely alert.
But tall, beautiful women like Jia Li aren't easy to find, especially since young women these days
often shop at brands like Swarovski and Tiffany for jewelry. Jia Li
suspects that Zhou Jianpeng, having been with that vixen for so many years, might have
promised to divorce his wife and marry her. If that's the case, choosing rings and necklaces is
one of the most important things a woman does in her life, and that woman might reappear. Since her husband isn't home, she can't
get any information through his phone, making this the only clue so far.
"Hi, hello, can we get to know each other?" The handsome man, clearly impatient, struck up a conversation with Jia Li
.
Faced with the young, handsome man's tall, imposing figure and deep, handsome features, Jia Li showed no interest whatsoever. She
only glanced at him before her captivating eyes drifted back to the window, where her true interest lay.
The handsome young man, clearly unwilling to give up after being rebuffed, was a rich and handsome man whose charming smile had never been resisted by any girl
. He smiled faintly, determined to conquer the beauty before him.
"My name is..."
"I have no interest in your name." Jia Li didn't even look up at the handsome young man again, and even
rudely interrupted him.
The handsome young man was embarrassed, even though others would think they were a match made in heaven, and that
it was probably just the two young lovers bickering.
Jia Li looked up at him again, and seeing that he was about to speak, she immediately said coldly, "
You've been pampered since childhood, handsome and rich, you can get whatever you want, whether it's a woman or anything else,
but you don't know how to cherish it. Isn't that pathetic?"
The handsome young man was suddenly stunned and speechless for a moment.
"I'm already married, please don't bother me anymore."
"But you're not wearing a ring, are you?" the handsome young man managed to say, seizing the opportunity.
"Because I'm getting a divorce."
"Then I still have a chance. Why don't you try being with me...?" The handsome young man seemed to
have grasped a single log in a vast ocean.
"I already have someone I love, and I love him very much. He's older, not handsome, and doesn't have much money, but he
truly loves me. You wouldn't understand yet because you're too young." Jia Li finished speaking, her expression revealing
a hint of disdain and contempt.
"I have something to do." Jia Li's words were brief and hurried. She picked up her bag and left the coffee shop.
She did have something to do, something important. Just moments before, while she was talking to the mixed-race handsome man, a tall, slender
figure flashed past and entered the jewelry store across the street.
Although it was brief, Jia Li could still tell who the woman was.
It was Yang Mengjue!
Jia Li didn't care about anything else, quickly leaving the coffee shop and disappearing into the bustling crowd of the commercial street, leaving the young
handsome man standing there dumbfounded.
Jia Li quietly hid in the crowd, weaving and shifting for a long time until Yang Mengjue walked out of the jewelry store.
Only then did she walk to the counter where Yang Mengjue had lingered. Gazing at the dazzling array of gold and silver rings, she felt as if she had returned
to the year five years ago when she was about to become a bride.
"Miss, which one do you like? You can try it on." A sweet female voice pulled Jia Li
out of her reverie.
"Um..." Jia Li felt a little abrupt, but she quickly composed herself.
"It's like this, the beautiful lady looking at the rings over there is my sister." Jia Li lied without batting an eye
, a quick wit that even she admired.
"I was just saying, she's so tall and has such a great presence." The saleswoman immediately put on a smiling face
.
"My parents don't know my sister is getting married. She's still young, but as her older sister, I support her,"
Jia Li began to cover up her previous lie. "Did she come with my future brother-in-law?"
"Was he a tall, handsome young man?"
"Yes, yes," the sales clerk immediately replied.
"That's good. You don't know my sister, she changes boyfriends faster than she changes clothes because she's pretty
. Since she's getting married, it's fine to stick with the same one." Jia Li's delicate face showed a
relieved expression, but her heart was filled with mixed emotions.
If that mistress really was Yang Mengjue, she thought she would definitely kill that woman. Suddenly, she
remembered Yang Mengjue's hesitant words at the Qingya Pavilion dinner, and Jia Li became even more suspicious. This woman
stole Fang Lei six years ago, could she be stealing Zhou Jianpeng now!
She tried hard to suppress her anger, politely finished telling the sales clerk the story she had made up,
and then quickly left the jewelry store.
Jia Li's mind went blank, and she returned home somewhat dejected.
Seeing his daughter-in-law's distress, Old Zhou was naturally anxious. After repeated questioning, Jia Li finally revealed
her concerns and suspicions: her dependence on her father-in-law was all-encompassing, from physical intimacy to daily life, and it seemed only
he could offer her advice on this matter.
Being an elder with more experience, Old Zhou quickly reassured his daughter-in-law after hearing her story.
"Xiao Li," he said, "I think you shouldn't speculate without evidence."
"Dad, but I..." Despite this, Jia Li still couldn't calm down.
"Well then, seeing you troubled makes me feel bad too. I have a remedy that can cure your heartache."
"What?" Jia Li perked up at the mention of it.
"But it needs a medicinal ingredient."
"Oh, what is it, Dad?"
"This..." The old man pulled down his pants, revealing a ferocious python.
"You old lecher!" Jia Li couldn't help but chuckle.
"Here, eat it, and I guarantee you'll be cured." Old Zhou finished speaking and reached for Jia Li's belt.
"Ugh! It's still daytime! The curtains aren't even drawn yet..." Jia Li scolded coquettishly,
but her delicate hands began to remove her top.
"How does it taste? Delicious, right?"
"It's alright, but it has a slightly fishy smell. Didn't I wash it yesterday?"
"Good medicine tastes bitter!"
After a long time of intimacy, it was as refreshing as rain after a long drought.
"Mmm...Dad, that's good!"
"Dad, a little deeper..."
"Oh...yes...yes...right there..."
"Ah...so good...it feels so good..."
"Dad...I love you..."
"...Kill me..."
...
The afternoon sun was bright and clear. To resist the winter chill, one had to exercise their body's
functions. Forty years ago, when he was down on his luck in the countryside, the young Old Zhou worked hard in the fields, shouting slogans
and swinging his arms, cultivating the somewhat barren land.
Now, Old Zhou was just as diligent, working hard on the fertile soil beneath him. He sang a rhythmic
melody in his heart, swinging his lower body back and forth dramatically. He felt as if he had never grown old, and his young
daughter-in-law's charming demeanor and eyes affirmed his achievements.
Just like then, he broke out in a light sweat, still feeling incredibly happy and fulfilled.
Nearly seventy years old, Old Zhou ran across the land with boundless energy, as joyful as a child at play.
His daughter-in-law's young, tall, and healthy body allowed him to indulge in unrestrained enjoyment, and he became increasingly frenzied,
each stroke of his hoe going as deep as possible, as if he were still a
young man in his twenties toiling in the fields.
Finally, on a winter afternoon, Old Zhou applied his first bag of fertilizer after the New Year.
Panting, he lay down on the boundless field, satisfied with the fruits of his labor, while
two towering mountains in the distance, which he too had conquered, stood before him.
"Dad…" Jia Li gazed tenderly at the increasingly valiant old man, and couldn't help but offer a sweet kiss. Their
tongues once again became inextricably intertwined.
The romantic French kiss was perfectly interpreted for a long time by this old man and young woman in a Chinese way.
"Xiaoli, I support you in getting a divorce, but I don't believe there's a better daughter-in-law in the world
."
Old Zhou was silent for a while. "Divorce is fine, Jianpeng can be with other women, but
I only recognize you as my daughter-in-law!"
They embraced tightly again. Jiali leaned against Old Zhou's chest; this was her only safe haven and her permanent
support.
Spring was getting closer.
"But women are women after all. As time goes by, they let their emotions run rampant, leading to this heartbreaking
situation. Women are all delusional, always wanting more. Whether it starts with a one-night stand, cohabitation, or a casual
fling, they always hope to grow old together. There are very few truly carefree women; they always
try to squeeze something out of men."
—Rouge.
"What are you reading?"
"Rouge."
"You don't just stay home reading this weekend, do you?" Ding Ting typed listlessly on the keyboard, her
once-beautiful eyes losing some of their sparkle.
"Hmm... just reading a book." Jia Li was already quite adept at telling little lies.
Could she really just casually talk about having sex with her father-in-law in broad daylight?
"What about you? Did you go to the private photoshoot yesterday?" Jia Li asked casually.
"No, I was busy with other things yesterday."
"Next time you see Yang Mengjue, take a good look at her and see if she's acting strangely. I always feel like something's off about her..."
In Jia Li's mind, Yang Mengjue was still the prime suspect who stole her husband. This deep-seated disgust and distrust
had been sown years ago when Yang had stolen her away.
