Chapter Nine: Sending Meat
After the ejaculation, Tie Niu's legs were so weak he could barely stand. He leaned on his sister's back, panting heavily. After a while, his sister
shook her shoulders, and he struggled to stand up, starting to put on his pants and fasten his belt.
Cai Feng simply wiped her crotch, pulled up her pants, and swayed to the bedside. She lifted the quilt and crawled
inside, peeking out weakly and saying, "Hurry up and get out! If Father and Mother come in... it won't look good!"
Tie Niu opened the door, lifted his foot to step out the threshold, but then remembered
something he had always wanted to ask but couldn't bring himself to say. He walked back to the bed, took a deep breath, and mustered all his strength to say, "What my brother-in-law said
... that you and Jin Gou did that thing, is it true... or false?" He didn't know what
use it would be to find out the truth.
"It's fake!" Caifeng pulled the blanket over her head, muttering under the covers, "You believe in gods and ghosts
, but you wouldn't believe a gambling ghost's mouth, and you actually believe what he says?"
"I...I just wanted to know!" Tie Niu said sheepishly. While his brother-in-law's words were not to be trusted, his sister's words were equally credible.
"He said...he saw it with his own eyes, Jin Gou came out of the house,
sneaking around like a ghost, and when he came in, you were still putting on your pants, and he caught you and beat you up..."
"That damned man! He made up stories to slander me!" Cai Feng exclaimed, her voice rising with emotion. She poked her head out
and said, "That night, it wasn't completely dark yet. I ate dinner and went to bed early. But then Jin Gou came again demanding money. He stood in the yard
and barked a few times. I heard him but didn't answer. He thought your brother-in-law was hiding in the house, so he pushed open the door and came straight in
. I was lying in bed and told him your brother-in-law was playing dice at the temple. He didn't believe me, so he jumped into the room, lit a match
, and got out of bed to check. I was naked, both scared and embarrassed. Luckily, he didn't see your brother-in-law and left
..."
"Oh, I see!" Tie Niu's heart settled. He began to regret blaming Jin Gou, but at the same time, he was glad he
hadn't hit Jin Gou without asking questions. "But he hit you too! Why did that?" Tie Niu
didn't want to be too blunt, afraid of hurting his sister's feelings.
Caifeng sighed, her face instantly dimming. "It's alright when I win money, but when I lose
, they beat me. I can't even remember how many times I've been beaten!"
Tie Niu already knew this; it wasn't what he wanted to hear. Seeing his sister's distress, he felt sad too
, snorted, shut his mouth, and walked out sullenly. In the kitchen, Cuifen, with a long face, ignored
him. He had a guilty conscience, so he pretended not to see her.
As dusk approached, his father returned, carrying two or three pounds of fresh meat. His mother cut half of it and cooked a
large bowl of meat soup, instantly making the New Year's Eve dinner lavish. The last time they ate meat was on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, almost half a year ago
. As soon as it was on the table, Tie Niu wolfed it down, ignoring his sister and wife's fierce glare.
At least the New Year was over. According to long-standing custom, no one was allowed to go out on the first day of the New Year, and Tie Niu
spent another difficult day sandwiched between his sister and wife.
On the second day, Tie Niu was eating breakfast when he suddenly thought of his cousin-in-law Xiuqin: I wonder what kind of New Year the three of them are celebrating
? He was anxious, so he quickly ate all the food in his bowl, threw down the bowl, and rushed to the kitchen.
He wrapped the remaining pound of meat from the New Year in gauze, hid it in his clothes, and was about to sneak out of the yard when
his mother called out from behind, "Tie Niu! Tie Niu! In this cold weather... what's the rush?!"
Tie Niu leaned back, his feet still outside the gate, his head inside, and said irritably, "Mind your own business! I'll
go wherever I want!"
"You unfilial brat! I'm your mother, can't I control you?!" his mother said with a smile, and started to catch up.
"Your sister is going back today, and she's afraid of getting beaten if she goes alone. Aren't you going to see her off?"
"She'll go back in a couple of days! Why today..." Tie Niu shook his head repeatedly, clutching his bulging belly to avoid revealing his
secret, and ran away in a flash.
Mother stomped her feet as she returned, but Cai Feng was sobbing. "I've spoiled her rotten since she was little!
She cries over the smallest things! If he won't take her, there's always Cui Fen!" She winked at her daughter-in-law as she spoke, but this only made her
cry harder, tears streaming down her face.
"I wouldn't dare join in this fun!" Cui Fen turned her face away, her tone tinged with schadenfreude.
She disliked Cai Feng's stingy and spoiled nature, and she was also wary of her brother-in-law's lecherous ways; the scandalous affair from May was
still haunting her like a nightmare.
"Your father has to work outside, and I have to work at home. If you don't go, who will?" Mother said sternly. This was the first time her daughter-in-law
had openly objected to her arrangements.
Cui Fen wasn't afraid of her mother-in-law; she was afraid of Tie Niu! Seeing that her mother-in-law was about to get angry, she kept quiet, pouted
, and left the yard with Caifeng, heading home together.
The snow had stopped, but the air was getting colder. Early in the morning, there was hardly a soul on the road. Tie Niu jogged towards his cousin's house to warm himself up. In the distance, he heard a child crying
coming from his cousin's courtyard. Thinking that his cousin was beating the child again, he ran faster. The two children, one big and one small, immediately stopped crying when they saw Tie Niu burst into the door. Their little faces were red and tear-stained. "Other families eat meat for the New Year, but you, Xiuqin, beat your children for the New Year!" Tie Niu said with heartache. "What's the point of celebrating the New Year! It's getting worse and worse!" My cousin's wife said, her brow furrowed with worry. A few strands of hair were disheveled on her forehead . She looked haggard and unrecognizable after just a few months. "They're usually so well-behaved and sensible. I could never bear to hit them. It's all because of the New Year! The two kids woke up early this morning asking me for meat, saying, 'Mommy, Mommy, everyone else is eating meat, we want some too!' But we don't even have enough to cook, where are we going to get meat?" she complained bitterly. It's truly a case of some people being happy while others are sad! Tie Niu felt a pang of sadness. He knew that his cousin's wife hadn't raised pigs in years, and didn't even have the money to buy meat for the New Year. He quickly pulled a gauze bag from under his clothes and waved it in front of the children: "Look what your uncle brought you! Meat!" "Don't be like that! Tie Niu, I know your situation..." His cousin's wife choked up. The two children rushed forward to grab it, but she glared at them and pulled them back.

"You're too kind! This is all I have, just enough for the children to have a little treat. Is it too little?" Tie Niu felt a pang of bitterness again,
glancing back at the dusty stove. His cousin-in-law shook her head, unsure what to say. She took the gauze
bag, went to the stove, opened it, placed it in a wooden basin, and scooped water from the water vat to wash it. "Help me out, get the fire
going! We'll all have some meat!" Her tone was very much like a woman's, as if she were instructing the children, yet also calling to Tie Niu.
"Okay!" Tie Niu replied, happily running out to gather firewood, the two children
following behind like little tails, hoping to help him. Once the fire was lit, the once gloomy mud house became like a home
: the woman chopped vegetables and cooked, moving around the stove like a revolving lantern; the man stoked the fire and chopped wood, and whenever his hands were free,
he would put the children on his lap and play horsey games. Seeing
the innocent smile bloom on the child's tear-streaked, flushed face , Tie Niu couldn't help but think: If Cui Fen could have a child, even a frog would be wonderful!
His cousin-in-law was so efficient at cooking! Before a single firewood had even burned, the rice and vegetables were already in the pot. "Eat! Eat!"
Tie Niu shouted, and the two children, ignoring their mother's scolding, pounced on the table like two starving little tigers,
devouring the food like a whirlwind.
"Children from a poor family, we rarely eat meat, you must be laughing at us!" his cousin-in-law said with an embarrassed smile,
but dared not touch the fragrant slices of meat with her chopsticks.
"When I was little, I didn't even know what meat looked like, much less..." Tie Niu was telling the truth
. Let alone meat, back then, a few drops of vegetable oil floating in the bowl was considered a big deal. Seeing his cousin-in-law eating only vegetables, he picked up
two large slices of meat and placed them in her bowl: "You should try some too, your cooking is delicious!"
His cousin-in-law smiled shyly, took a small bite of the meat slice, and put it in the child's bowl. She then
went to eat the vegetables. Suddenly, the tips of their chopsticks collided. She pulled back her chopsticks and complained,
"Why aren't you eating? Don't you like my cooking?"
"No! No! I ate before I came, I can't eat anymore!" Tie Niu quickly shook
his head in denial. Actually, he wanted to eat meat too, but seeing the two children wolfing it down, his heart ached
. Even if it were a delicacy, he wouldn't dare take a bite.
His cousin-in-law, of course, understood his thoughts. Moved, she almost cried: "Tie Niu! If I weren't
a widow despised by others, even if I had to do your laundry, clean your house, and bear your child, my life wouldn't have been in vain!" She
knew in her heart that as long as Cui Fen was still alive, her imaginings would never come true, never!
The meal was eaten faster and cleaner than ever before. Even the bowl with the meat, with its scum at the bottom,
was licked clean by the two children. No matter how miserable the adults' lives were, as long as the children weren't hungry, no matter
how cold the weather, they never forgot one thing: play! The two children were no exception. After finishing their meal, they jumped into the snow in the yard and
started a snowball fight. Their innocent laughter awakened Tie Niu's dormant childlike spirit, and he joined their
"battle" like a big kid, running, throwing, and getting hit in the snow with glee… Soon, he found himself
sweating profusely, and the children's energy seemed inexhaustible, so he had to retreat back into the house. The stove was spotless
, the bowls were neatly stacked in the dish rack, and the dust on the floor had been swept away, but
his cousin's wife was nowhere to be seen.
"Sister-in-law! Sister-in-law! I'm going back..." Tie Niu called out at the top of his lungs, but no one answered
. Had she gone out? Had he been having too much fun to see her cross the yard? He turned to leave, but
an inexplicable sense of loss held him back. "Xiuqin! Xiuqin..." he called hesitantly.
"Cough! Cough!" Two clear coughs. Tie Niu looked around, unable to find the source of the sound.
"I'm in my room, I'm going to sleep for a while!" His cousin's wife's soft, languid voice drifted from the doorway and
into his ears... In broad daylight, before Tie Niu had even left, his cousin's wife was already going to sleep? Suddenly, Tie Niu
caught that subtle hint—or at least he thought it was a hint. A surge of heat rushed to his head, and he stumbled
into the room, his head spinning. The room in my cousin's house had dilapidated mud walls on all four sides, and was almost as bright as the outer room. Only
a cloth curtain in the corner gave a false sense of warmth, but it was now trembling uneasily.
"Where?!" Tie Niu shouted gruffly, even though he knew his cousin was inside the curtain, he didn't understand
why he was shouting like that. He strode to the bed, lifted the curtain, and his cousin
was huddled under the covers like a frightened rabbit, trembling, only her large, watery eyes peeking out at him, her gaze somewhat
unfamiliar.
Without a word, Tie Niu grunted and pounced on the cold blankets. Unexpectedly,
his cousin writhed under the covers, resisting the intruder as if possessed. Tie Niu pressed down on her,
muttering in bewilderment, "Xiuqin! Xiuqin! Why are you struggling so hard?"
"If you want to leave, then leave! What are you doing here?" his cousin-in-law gasped, struggling stubbornly to throw Tie
Niu off the covers. But the man's strong body pressed down on her like a tower, like the
Leifeng Pagoda on the West Lake firmly sealing off a seductive snake demon.
After a while, his cousin-in-law finally stopped her futile struggle, spreading her arms and panting heavily.
Tie Niu's hand, like a thick vine, slipped into the warm covers, tracing along her warm thighs to her undulating
belly, all the way to her soft breasts. The woman was already naked!
"Your hands are cold!" his cousin-in-law shivered, pressing her rough hands tightly against them. Tie Niu then lifted
the covers and crawled in to lie with her, carefully touching every inch of her skin—smooth, warm, and creamy
, as soft as fine silk.
"You really are something, the baby's right outside, and you dare..." His sister-in-law spread Tie Niu's legs, grasping
what she had longed for and gently stroking it. From the moment she realized she was making a futile resistance,
her body lost all strength, forced to stop and await its ravages.
Tie Niu breathed heavily, the woman's lips burning like fire across his forehead, his cheeks, his neck
…all the dry spots, finally pressing against his lips, like a wet little snake slipping inside, nimbly…
She teased his tongue, playing with it by sucking it in her mouth. Below, his penis was rapidly
swelling and stretching in the woman's hand, waves of tingling pleasure washing over him. "Oh...oh...Xiuqin...Xiuqin..."
he groaned involuntarily. More than half a year had passed since that night when Cuifen had mocked him.
