Chapter Twenty-Six: The Tracking
The incident severely dampened Aunt's spirits. After recounting the events to Beigong
, Aunt lost interest. After calling the staff to the room to settle the bill, Aunt took Li Yun and Beigong downstairs
.
In the parking lot, Li Yun suddenly had a plan and pulled Aunt aside, saying softly,
"Aunt, you take Beigong back to rest. I'd better go home myself..."
Aunt seemed to have anticipated Li Yun's sudden decision. She pouted, seemingly somewhat unwilling:

men with whom his mother had an ambiguous relationship. The man in the trench coat and Uncle Jun—Uncle Jun was a no-brainer; his mother had actually slept with him right next to Li Yun's hospital bed

to see his face clearly. And tonight, the man in the trench coat's behavior suggested he was gay. Could this
gay man be the same person his mother met in the park? But that trench coat... I shouldn't be mistaken.
"
The two men now beside his mother also came into Li Yun's calculations. Li Yun had no
doubt about the ambiguous relationship between these two men and his mother. If it were just a casual get-together with friends, his mother
wouldn't have used "working overtime" as an excuse.
The two men and one woman went downstairs, chatting and laughing, and Li Yun resumed his pursuit. He only hoped to remember
the car license plates of his mother's lovers; at least knowing the numbers would give him a chance to find out their identities and backgrounds.
However, the three didn't enter the parking lot. Instead, they went directly out of the karaoke bar and onto the street

"Not driving?" Li Yun had followed his mother once before, and during this time,
he had been forced to accumulate considerable experience in both following and counter-following under Bei Gong's pursuit. Since they weren't driving, he decided to follow them
to the end.
At first, the two men walked side-by-side with his mother, chatting and laughing. After turning into a narrow, deserted
alley, the two men leaned against his mother, flanking her on either side. His mother sensed this and actually
laughed in a coquettish voice.
That laughter sent a shiver down Li Yun's spine. From childhood to adulthood, Li Yun had never heard his mother
laugh like that in front of him…
Li Yun didn't follow her into the alley. The alley was too narrow; going in would almost certainly be discovered by his mother and the two men
. So Li Yun chose to stay at the alley entrance, secretly observing the situation inside. His mother and the two men had already
gone deeper into the alley, making it difficult to observe them from the entrance. Just as Li Yun was hesitating whether to risk following them,
the sound of a bicycle bell came from inside the alley… Li Yun immediately left the alley entrance and leaned against
the eaves of a nearby closed shop. Sure enough, a bicycle drove out of the alley, followed
quickly by his mother and the two men. The three were disheveled, and the cyclist kept looking back at them as he rode away
… After the cyclist was gone, his mother and the two men actually burst into laughter, as if they had just experienced something amusing
.
Then the three of them stood at the alley entrance, discussed something for a while, decided on something, and then walked back
down the main road. Li Yun naturally continued to follow them discreetly.
Finally, the three entered a hotel. The hotel was clearly low-class, with a wooden
sign at the entrance stating things like, "24-hour hot water, nationwide telephone service..."
This should be their final destination for the night.
After the three spoke with the hotel receptionist and disappeared down the stairs, Li Yun felt his pockets;
he had about a hundred yuan left. Li Yun had never stayed in a hotel like this before and didn't know the pricing.
