【The Legend of Yun】(34)

Chapter Thirty-Four: Reunion After
reading the text message, Li Yun didn't understand, but she didn't think much of it; there were still many things to handle regarding her grandmother's funeral.
After her second aunt left, her father pulled her mother aside, seemingly explaining something. At first, her mother seemed fine, but as time passed, her expression grew increasingly
grim, and she soon started arguing with her father. Her aunt, who had been busy with other things, saw this and went over.
Li Yun didn't know what they were talking about, but thinking that her aunt was there, even if her parents didn't say anything, her aunt would probably tell her secretly, so she focused on her work.
A while later, Li Yun suddenly saw her mother running out of the mourning hall crying, and her father hurriedly chased after her. Her aunt quickly walked to her side and gave her a wink,
so Li Yun obediently followed her aunt to a quiet corner.
"Auntie, what happened? My mom seemed to have run out crying just now?" Li Yun asked softly.
Her aunt leaned down slightly and whispered in Li Yun's ear, "Your sister is coming today."
Li Yun was shocked. Ever since learning from her aunt that she might have a half-sister, Li Yun had been preoccupied with the matter. She
had tried to subtly inquire about it from her parents and other relatives, but to no avail. Her parents were clearly hiding it
, and the other relatives were simply unaware. Over the next few days, Li Yun's interest waned. When her aunt suddenly brought it up, Li Yun
was naturally surprised.
"So, your second aunt was looking for Dad about this the other day?" Li Yun asked.
"Yes, you guessed right! I only suspected it before, but your dad told me the day after your grandfather passed away. Your sister is your cousin's
daughter. Oh, by the way, you don't even know her name yet… She currently takes your cousin's surname, Wu Xia. She came today, and I guess she'll soon change her surname to
Li… Li Xia, Li Yun. Hmph… Your dad clearly planned this all along." Her aunt's tone was contemptuous, but it was clear
she greatly admired her father's arrangements.
"What exactly happened?" Li Yun was completely confused.
Her aunt looked around and whispered, "I'll just get to the point. Before your second aunt gave birth to your sister, your cousin had a car accident and
couldn't have children anymore. You should know that. Later, your second aunt and your father's marriage fell through, and your second aunt didn't know what to do
. So your cousin and his wife took your sister away. They told everyone she was their daughter and even managed to get a birth certificate. When I
checked, they fooled me. But your father and your second aunt knew all about it. They just kept it from everyone else, mainly your
mother, your grandparents. Your mother probably knew a little bit, but she pretended not to. After all, she felt guilty for taking your sister's man
. Your grandfather passed away, and your second aunt wanted your sister to come back for his funeral. I think you can understand your
second aunt's feelings, right?"
Li Yun nodded repeatedly. “Of course I understand. Whether she and Dad are married or not, my sister is still a daughter of the Li family, and Grandpa’s granddaughter. Now that Grandpa has passed away
, a granddaughter should come and burn paper money to pay her respects.”
“Well, it’s good that you think that way. Although your grandfather forcibly separated them, blood ties still matter. However, your father didn’t agree at the time,
saying that since your grandfather had just passed away, he had to consider your grandmother’s feelings. Suddenly having a granddaughter out of nowhere might upset your grandmother. Your father is filial and
considers things more thoroughly than others, so I agreed with his opinion at the time.” Auntie was somewhat relieved to see that Li Yun could accept it so readily.
“Now that your grandmother has also passed away, it would indeed be unreasonable not to let this granddaughter fulfill her filial duties. So, although your mother objected just now, I
support your father’s opinion.”
“Why did my mother object?” Li Yun was stunned.
Auntie was a little puzzled: "I thought you'd understand something after reading so many books. Honestly, are you genuinely clueless or just pretending?"
Li Yun made a face: "I really don't understand!"
Auntie stared at Li Yun for a while. "You know, sometimes I really don't know if you're truly smart or just pretending! If your sister doesn't come back to the Li family, you'll be the
only heir. In the future, all the family property will belong to you, Li Yun. Now that you have another sister, you can forget about having it all to yourself. Your mother is fighting for you! So
your mother's opposition is exactly what your father and I expected."
"Family property?" Li Yun almost fainted. He had never really considered these things. "That's so many years from now. My mother's already thinking about
it?" Li Yun smiled bitterly.
"It's not your mother's fault. Mothers always think of their children first. You have to understand your mother." Auntie explained, "And..."
"And what?" Li Yun was annoyed to see his aunt looking hesitant again.
Seeing Li Yun's anxiety, her aunt quickly added, "This time, you might even have another younger sister."
"What?" Li Yun was completely devastated. She'd just had an older sister, and now there was another younger sister.
"It's your cousin, Kong Xiaoxi! Your aunt has always suspected she's probably your father's child. After your grandfather died, your second aunt wanted a divorce from your second uncle
and was determined to fight for Xiaoxi's custody. The timing is too coincidental…it's clearly a case of using someone and then discarding them. With your grandfather dead,
the obstacle between your second aunt and your father completely disappeared! Your second aunt has nothing to fear anymore." Her aunt looked mysterious.
"What, Aunt, do you know that my father and second aunt have been seeing each other all along?" Li Yun was stunned. She had never
told her aunt about what she had witnessed in her father's office.
"I've always known! What's so strange about that... Your dad has always had an affair with your second aunt, which shows that he's deeply in love and hasn't forgotten his old flame. If it
weren't for that, I would have considered him a heartless person, how could I still like him... um!" The aunt quickly covered her
mouth with her hand, suddenly realizing that such words were inappropriate to say in front of her young lover, Li Yun.
Li Yun was indeed a little unhappy, and said sourly, "Aunt, you're also deeply in love and haven't forgotten your old flame, so you still can't let go of my dad, right?"
The aunt quickly coaxed Li Yun, "Don't talk nonsense, I'm yours now, you know that yourself. Besides, this isn't the place to talk about these things, hurry up
and get down to business." After saying that, she turned and looked at her grandmother's body, her face full of regret, and quickly put her hands together, "Amitabha, Amitabha,
Mother, please don't blame me... I really didn't mean it." When she reached the sad part, she even shed tears again.
Li Yun realized that speaking such words in front of her grandmother's body was extremely disrespectful, so she quickly went to offer incense and pray for her grandmother to calm her conscience
.
This conversation was merely a fragment of the funeral proceedings. As more and more relatives and friends arrived to offer their condolences, Li Yun and her aunt had no time to consider
the feelings they couldn't express to outsiders.
While Li Yun and her aunt were busy, her father seemed to have finally persuaded her mother. After returning to the mourning hall, the aunt and niece could finally
breathe a sigh of relief.
Late at night, the relatives and friends in the mourning hall gradually dispersed, leaving mostly Li Yun's closest family members.
It was only then that her second aunt appeared in the mourning hall with a girl. The girl
looked about seventeen or eighteen years old, with fair skin and a tall figure. She resembled her second aunt quite a bit and was very pretty, but her every move gave Li Yun
a sense of unbridled freedom. The second aunt whispered something in the girl's ear, and after a long tug-of-war, the girl reluctantly went to her grandmother's altar,
burned a few sticks of incense, and gave a perfunctory kowtow. She then turned back to her second aunt, who said something else. The girl turned to look at her father,
who was also looking at her. Because of her position, Li Yun couldn't see her father's expression, but she could clearly see the defiant
look on the girl's face.
The second aunt seemed to sense the tension between the father and girl, and quickly pulled the girl aside, then pointed to Li Yun and her mother, clearly introducing
them.
The girl turned and saw Li Yun, a look of disbelief suddenly appearing on her face. She then stared intently at Li Yun, making him feel uneasy. He
excused himself to his mother and left the mourning hall to use the restroom.
As he walked out, he caught a glimpse of his second aunt leading the girl towards his mother, presumably to introduce them… so he quickly ran to the restroom.
Li Yun knew that the girl was likely his half-sister, but his first impression of her was really bad! She was indeed very beautiful,
but she gave off a very ill-mannered vibe. The way she was staring at him made Li Yun feel extremely uncomfortable. Therefore, Li Yun deliberately lingered in the restroom
for a while. Thinking that his aunt should have left with his older sister, he finally pushed open the restroom door.
But as soon as he stepped out, he found his sister leaning against the men's restroom door, staring at him with a half-smile. With a smirk, she said, "Little brother, can't take it anymore, can
you?!"
Li Yun's mind instantly clicked. He looked like he'd seen a ghost, pointing at her and stammering,
"It...it's...it's you...you're not wearing makeup today!"
