Lost Wife Episodes 1-18 (Complete)

I. My Wife 's in Trouble
It was almost 11 p.m. on Friday when I returned home to Beijing.
I had originally planned a three-month business trip, but due to a situation at headquarters, I was temporarily recalled, and I urgently booked
a 7 p.m. flight.
My wife wasn't home; the dark house felt cold and deserted. Where could she be so late?
I dialed her cell phone; it rang incessantly, but no one answered.
Just as I was about to hang up, the call connected.
"Hello, honey..." My wife's voice sounded a little languid.
"Xue, where are you?"
Perhaps sensing a hint of dissatisfaction in my voice, her tone became slightly flustered.
"My company is having its year-end meeting. I came this afternoon, and I'll be home Sunday afternoon."
My wife always told me in advance where she was going, even when I was away on business. I was slightly annoyed,
but it was almost the end of the year, and every company would arrange a routine year-end meeting; it was normal. Her meeting was
at a hot spring conference center in northern Beijing, a place we had been to before.
I told her I had to come home early because of work.
My wife said apologetically on the phone, "Honey, I can't stay with you; I'll come back and keep you company Sunday afternoon.
Go to sleep early, okay?"
Her tone was slightly coquettish, the "oh" trailing off.
There were some rustling sounds coming from the receiver. Xue lowered her voice and said hurriedly, "Honey, I
share a room with Xiaojie. She's going to bed now, I'm hanging up."
Xiaojie is my wife's colleague and best friend. They're
practically inseparable at work, except when they're in different offices. I was about to say goodnight when my wife hung up.
Lying in bed, my mind was filled with her image and smile. My wife is two years younger than me, 27 this year. I still remember
when she first arrived at the department to register for university; I was the one who greeted her. Her crescent-shaped eyes were covered by long eyelashes
, as if shrouded in a thin layer of mist. At 168 cm tall, she wasn't very tall, but her figure was very well-proportioned, and in
a white dress, she looked graceful and elegant. Her exposed skin was as translucent as white porcelain. Beautiful
, refreshing, with skin as white as snow—that was my first impression of Xue.
Xue's beauty and poise attracted countless suitors. I had always secretly liked her, but Xue
was so dazzling that I never dared to have any improper thoughts, let alone hope to win her favor; and Xue was
indeed very virtuous, and although she had many suitors, she never had any scandals. Until
the eve of my graduation, at Xue's 20th birthday party, our relationship underwent a major change
: Xue officially accepted me.
Seven years have passed in the blink of an eye! Over the past seven years, we've weathered countless storms together, yet Xue
resolutely married me and stood by me through the difficult early years. To outsiders, I
seemed like a toad trying to eat a swan. More importantly, her parents never approved of my marriage. For
an outsider like myself who graduated and stayed in Beijing, securing a place in this talent-filled city was incredibly difficult.
"Mom and Dad, I will make Xue happy," Xue said, holding my hand tightly. She
gave me the courage to make the most solemn promise I could ever make to her parents.
I thought to myself, then looked up at our wedding photo on the bedside table: Xue in a pure white wedding dress, holding
a bouquet of vibrant roses, nestled against me like a little bird.
It was late, but I couldn't sleep. Bored, I went to the study, intending to check my
emails. But I noticed my wife's silver laptop lying quietly on the desk.
This laptop was a wedding gift I bought for my wife last May; she
cherishes always carries it with her, rarely letting me use it.
I turned it on and easily entered the system.
Just as I was about to open my email, I noticed QQ flashing in the lower right corner.
Clicking it, a message popped up: "
Wind and Snow Intertwined 16:42:12, Baby, come down quickly, I'm at the entrance of the community.
" This affectionate use of "baby" made my head buzz; scrolling through the chat history, there were no other messages
besides that one. Checking the other person's profile, it showed a 35-year-old
man. I'm not one to pry into other people's privacy, but my intuition told me that this man seemed
to have some secret with my wife; after much deliberation, I still opened his photo album. This man seemed familiar, but I couldn't quite place him. He seemed like a very meticulous
person; all the photos in the album were categorized by date and content. Most of
the photos were of travel and food from various places, showing that this person valued the quality of life. However, I didn't have the patience
to carefully look through those slightly boastful photos. But a recent set
of photos titled "Group Gathering, December 24, 2009" caught my attention.
Opening the folder, there weren't many photos. But I still quickly and accurately recognized my wife from the
men and women . My wife was tilting her head, covering her mouth, her eyes full of smiles,
gazing affectionately at the man next to her. That man was the owner of this photo album. My heart ached
. I knew Xue's gaze all too well. How many times had we been together under the moonlit flowers, Xue
had conquered my heart with that same look? And I also noticed Xiao Jie sitting next to that man.
December 24, 2009?
I took out my work log from my suitcase. Years of experience in engineering projects had instilled in me the good habit of recording
my daily work. On Christmas Eve of 2009, when I left the server room, the city was already
ablaze with lights. I didn't want to take a car, so I slowly walked back to the hotel; two weeks of busy work had left me
physically and mentally exhausted. I dialed my wife's cell phone, but there was no answer. Finally, she called back. Amidst the noisy background
, I heard her somewhat broken voice.
"Zhe, I'm at a KTV... with colleagues... and Xiaojie and her boyfriend..."
The noise from the receiver left me with no reason to doubt. I gave her a few simple instructions and hung up. If
the date and content of this photo are correct, then clearly, my wife wasn't having a gathering with colleagues. Because I don't recognize...
Everyone who recognizes this photo except for my wife and Xiaojie.
Why would Xue lie?
I suddenly saw the words "group gathering," so without a doubt, Xue must have attended
a gathering in a QQ group.
I clicked on "Group/Discussion Group" in QQ and sure enough, I found that Xue had joined a
group called "Beijing Married Relationships." Opening the group chat, it was basically just random jokes and banter. Occasionally, I would see Xue
say a few words, and every time she spoke, it usually caused a lot of noise from the group. "Wind and Snow Melody"
was also there, but it seemed that he and Xue didn't talk much in the group.
Opening Xue and Xiaojie's chat history, it was mostly about women's topics: handbags, clothes, husbands,
children, and occasionally some women's whispers. I patiently flipped through more than a hundred pages of chat history
until a line suddenly jumped into my eyes, shocking me like a thunderbolt.
Red Dust Love 22:38:43, Wasn't he great yesterday?
I couldn't find my wife's reply, so it seemed she had intentionally deleted the other conversations.
The conversation was dated March 28, 2010,
so something must have happened on March 27th? And that was my wife's birthday.
I opened my work log to check the events of March 27th. Although it was a Saturday, I was still
in the control room of a factory in a southern city, frantically searching for bugs in the program. From morning till night... Clearly, this "he" is not me. I can't be sure if this was a joke between women
, nor do I know the context in which it was said; the only thing I'm certain of is that it came from within myself.
